Dear Mechanics,

Today's hotfix will be slightly different from the previous ones. We have to announce that we are changing our roadmap plan for this month. We assumed that in May we will release two new tanks - Panzer II C and PzKpfw VIII Maus. Due to the problems encountered, which we describe below, we have to postpone the release of Maus to June.



We do our best to make sure that every of our newly released vehicles is perfect and has a fully modeled interior (f.e. in an engine). This is the ambitious goal we set for ourselves for the production of the latest vehicles. You can see the results of this attitude in our recently published models. With Maus, we need more time to work on details. We don't want to release an incomplete vehicle, it's pointless.



The production of two vehicles in a month forced us to focus more on the models at the expense of the issues in the game. We receive a lot of signals about your dissatisfaction related to the bugs that have been accumulating in our game for some time now. We collect your reports you send to us. You can see a fraction of what we are working on currently.



To sum up, in May we want to release only Panzer II C and focus on fixing all those issues we have gathered. We don't want to sound like we are complaining. Without beating around the bush - we have a lot of work to do.

we have uploaded a hotfix for update 1.2.4, on a branch unstable, list of changes:

Modified / Tweaked:
  • Removed support for saving game data in Windows Registry (it solves various bugs and improve game stability)

Fixed:
  • InvertY option (FPP and TPP mode) for Xbox One controller
  • Only crew slots that should be able to can now control guns/mgs - for instance a driver in Tiger won't be able to use any weapon
  • Switching slots when in tank on proving grounds correctly manages the activation/deactivation of weapons
  • Decreased force for recoil when shooting from M8 Greyhound
  • Fixed muzzle fire visuals in M8 Greyhound

If this hotfix proves to be helpful in few days we will switch it to the default branch. Sorry for all the waiting, but the main fix this hotfix brings - the memory leak fix - was very important for us to send it out.

With this update, we also added new modding tools for adding custom metal objects/collectibles to the game. Our community contributor JaG created and posted a video showing process of making such an item.

  • Game now does not stall each time player picks up ammo from the tank, we are not calling a save method right away, but when the player leaves the room or leaves the scene (to main menu/extraction, etc.)

Welcome to our one hundred and third development status update.

We continue following the roadmap! Please meet new friends in our TMS family - Little Willie and Vickers E Type B!

Here is some information about these vehicles:

Little Willie





Little Willie was the first fully completed prototype tank in the world. It was constructed in 1915 by the Landship Committee. The only model ever produced is currently situated in the collection of The Tank Museum in Bovington, England. This machine was propelled by the means of a 13 liter, 105 horsepower Daimler-Knight engine. It was supposed to be fitted with a 40mm Vickers 2-pounder in a non-routable turret, but the idea was later scratched. Most mechanical have been adapted from the Foster-Daimler heavy artillery tractor.

Despite having the legendary reputation as the first completed tank, the design was horrendous. Little Willie could barely reach 2 miles per hour, the engine was overheating, cooking the crew alive and the tank couldn't do the only thing it was designed for - cross trenches. But all in all, if not Willie's flaws, today's tanks might not look like they do now.

Vickers E Type B





The Vickers Mark E, also called Vickers 6-Ton Tank was a British light tank. It was designed as a private project in 1928 by the company in its name, Vickers. The tank was not purchased by the British army, but it was very widely sold to foreign nations. Some of them even licensed it, such as the Soviet T-26 or Polish 7TP.

The tank was powered by a modified version of the Armstron-Siddeley Puma engine, producing 80-95 horsepower (depending on the versions) and that gave it an approximate speed of 35km/h on road.
The suspension was pretty simple; two axles, each of them carried a two-wheeled bogie, everything sprung by leaf springs. Performance was not comparable to Christie suspension, but it was deemed enough, with a lifetime of 4,800 kilometers.

Armament depended on the version: Type A had two turrets, both mounting the Vickers Machine Gun, and the Type B sported a single turret, housing a short-barreled 47mm OQF 3-pounder and a single machine gun.

The reason for the tank not being implemented to the British Forces was the questionable suspension reliability. The tests in Poland also proved that the Puma engine tended to overheat excessively, being cooled only by air. Finnish tests proved disastrous - 6 out of 13 were in working order, one was unable to cross a trench and forced to stop, then met Soviet tanks. They managed to knock out 3 of them but soon were wiped out.

All in all, the design was lacking, but revolutionary nonetheless. The two-man turret proved to be a superb design, increasing the fire rate tremendously, of both the main gun and the machine gun.

And now about the upcoming patch itself, what are the biggest upcoming changes:

Metal Objects
The good news for modders - Metal Object Creator Modding Tool is almost done. It works in the following workflow:
  • Prepare collectible in FBX/OBJ file;
  • Install free Unity 2018.4.34, create a new project;
  • Import package MetalObjectCreatorPackage in Unity (package will be shipped together with the new patch);
  • Build mod (bundle files);
  • Use SteamWorkshopUploader to upload mod (new version of SteamWorkshop64.exe tool will be shipped together with the new patch);
  • Subscribe item, run game.
  • Enter to extraction mission, and you will have a chance to find a new metal object :)

Clouds/void when launching game
We have changed the way we handle the game assets/files. Previously we rebuilt the files each time we have made changes to them (files include tank models/configs etc.) - this caused Steam to sometimes not detect that it has to download a new file, but tried to load an old file that was no more available, and players spawned in the air after pressing Start Game button in Main Menu.

Now we will use other settings when managing game files - the process will be as follows:
  • We again need to, just one time, rebuild the game files with different settings
  • Upload it to steam (and again this bug might happen)
  • After this, every hotfix/patch that would previously require a file rebuild will now be only be updated, so Steam won't have to download new files in place of old ones, instead the game will just update old files - this is the place where we want to check if this could solve this issue - not making Steam download completely new set of files, but instead just updating the same ones

Other than that, we have a lot of reports still to process to fix the bugs, this will be our focus for next week to fix whatever we can. We want to tackle two problems before launching this patch next week on 30.04.2021, welded holes reappearing and picking up ammo from tanks causes each time the game to save its state and for some people, this means serious waiting times.

In may this focus will be the same time and operation time when a player buys/sells/repairs parts through the shop/crafting/storage menu.

Watch it! Tanks are coming! (For VR renovation, of course, not off course.)

Homebred mechanics, historians and militaria fans! Grab equipment – find old, abandoned, armoured vehicles from World War II era – renovate them – paint – and collect in your own museum! You can even test those legendary machines on the testing ground! And it is all in VR! Real as much as it can be, so prepare for being sweaty and dirty during the renovation.



So, let me explain this case on that piece of junk. Can you see those mud, wet spots? It is because I have to dig it up from the ground first. There, one of the tracks in the tank are broken. Can you see it? I have to buy a new one and replace it. Oh, and this rust all over the roof? Give me the pressure washer or sandblaster, it’s necessary before painting and all that stuff. Yup, by the way, the next steps are adding primer and final paint, then camouflage, colours and decals. Then I’ll test the beast on the battleground and put it back to the museum.



Oh, you want to do this by yourself? Sure! Grab VR goggles, search for one of a dozen legendary vehicles and take care of them!

Hello, fellow mechanics!

We have some fantastic news to share with you! Our friends over at CreativeForge Games are releasing their Aircraft Carrier Survival: Prologue for free today at 5 PM CEST!

The game lets you explore a totally different branch of the military - the Navy! Instead of repairing tanks that used to serve in the Army, take command of a full-blown aircraft carrier. Select your own crew, officers, equipment, and escort to complete each mission successfully. However, the seas are treacherous – you have to survive in a hostile environment in the middle of the ocean and fight back against your enemies.

You need to plan your missions, target your objectives and keep your crew safe from attacks. You can do that by assigning your crewmen to man the AA guns and aircraft or order them to handle hull flooding, fire outbreaks, and other threats.

as promised in the roadmap a few weeks ago, with game update we are adding two new vehicles to the game - the M20 Armored Utility Car and the M8 Greyhound.

Here are some information about these vehicles:

M8 Greyhound





The M8 Light Armored Car is a 6×6 armored car produced by the Ford Motor Company during World War II. It was used from 1943 by United States and British forces in Europe and the Pacific until the end of the war. The vehicle was widely exported and as of 2006 still remained in service with some countries. In British service, the M8 was known as the "Greyhound", a nickname seldom if ever used by the US. The British Army found it too lightly armored, particularly the hull floor, which anti-tank mines could easily penetrate (the crews' solution was lining the floor of the crew compartment with sandbags). Nevertheless, it was produced in large numbers. The M8 Greyhound's excellent on-road mobility made it a great supportive element in the advancing American and British armored columns. It was marginal off-road, especially in mud.

M20 Armored Utility Car





M20 AUC also known as the M20 scout car, was a Greyhound with the turret replaced with a low, armored open-topped superstructure and an anti-aircraft ring mount for a .50 cal M2 heavy machine gun. A bazooka was provided for the crew to compensate for its lack of anti-armor weaponry. The M20 was primarily used as a command vehicle and for forward reconnaissance, but many vehicles also served as armored personnel carriers and cargo carriers. It offered high speed and excellent mobility, along with a degree of protection against small arms fire and shrapnel. When employed in the command and control role, the M20 was fitted with additional radio equipment. Originally designated the M10 armored utility car, it was redesignated M20 to avoid confusion with the M10 tank destroyer.
