Modding with XenonCode is coming soon to Archean

Since this summer, we've been working on a first iteration of the modding system, built around XenonCode. It already allows you to create your own custom components, with fully scripted behavior, usable like any native component in the game.

Here are a couple of things players have been experimenting with recently:

Note that we're still working on the modding system and still planning on having breaking changes, so it will not be available just yet in the default branch, it's still reserved for the experimental branch for the time being.

While working on this system, we've also added several new features, improvements and fixes.

These are included in today’s release update on the default public branch.

Here’s the full changelog:

New Features

  • Added SlopeLight component

  • Added MiniNavInstrument component

  • Added PlayerSensor component

  • Added ability to add any component on Dashboards at arbitrary positions/orientations

  • Added ability to override any component screen via a computer connected to it

  • Added click_hold() entry point for continuous interaction with screens

  • Computer: Added IDE Library to locally save and reuse XenonCode files across computers

  • DockingPort: Can now transfer items between docked entities

  • Volume: Added composition output

  • PushButton & ToggleButton: Added dual-sided option in GetInfo (V) to make them usable from both sides

  • Crafter: Displays alert if crafting fails due to low power

  • Subgrids: no more occupancy added from the parent hinge component, for more permissive builds and fixing invisible block issue when using partial blueprints (not retroactive)

  • Launcher: Enhanced world selection table with sorting and last played timestamps

Fixes & Changes

  • Improved gravity computation to account for celestial body's rotation when vehicle is inside outer radius

  • Mouse look does not block when interacting with components anymore

  • Fixed solo game not starting when port 8881 is already in use (now uses a random available port, unless "accept_remote_connections = yes" in server.ini)

  • Fix modifier key handling to prevent stuck keys

  • Fixed velocity sensors stale values when vehicle is resting

  • Fixed FluidPort was capturing environment when volume was empty

XenonCode

  • XenonCode Nodes: Improved dynamic input handling for math/boolean nodes when using manual values

  • XenonCode Nodes: Increased max character limit for manual input values from 7 to 256

  • XenonCode: Added ability to chain accessors for KV text object

  • XenonCode: Allow more characters as the key for KV text objects when accessed via a variable key or via foreach, the key can contain anything except .{}

  • XenonCode: Fixed [c]^[/c] operator precedence

  • XenonCode: Improved numerical precision for const values

Honour the Spirits of the Dead during Día de Muertos!

Through early November, we’re honouring the spirits of the dead with our most spiritual seasonal event, Día de Muertos running from 1st November - 14th November!

Seasonal Trait: The Spiritualist

Our seasonal trait for Día de Muertos is The Spiritualist. On days when The Spiritualist does not play in, they may decorate a sugar skull offering using any pattern of their choice.

The pattern of the offering will then dictate how the spirits decide to reward The Spiritualist. Each different pattern leads to a different event, so the more times you're The Spiritualist and the more attention you pay, the more you can control the response of the spirits!

Make an Offering Every Day

Play Paper Pirates during Día de Muertos and you can make an offering to the spirits once per day! Play a game each day, and after your voyage you'll receive a gift from the bounty board!

There are four candle-themed outfit pieces for you to collect from the daily quests, so make sure to play a game of Paper Pirates four times before the celebration ends on the 14th November!

Limited Time Costumes

During Día de Muertos, Sam Sherbot and Nat O’Bother have some new customisation options available to unlock in the Shop Ship! If you buy a customisation option during Día de Muertos, you can use it all year round - but the items will be disappearing from sale when the event is over, so don’t delay and buy today!

Additionally, during Día de Muertos pirates will be able to wear either of two unique hats - La Calavera Catrina and Parrot (Skeleton) is available to everyone in voyages started during the event. Once the event’s over, the hats will disappear from your collection until next year!

Sacred Sugar Skulls

Go on a sailing adventure during Día de Muertos, and your crew will have the chance to decorate an offering to honour the spirits that have passed! Three randomly chosen pirates will each choose a pattern for a region of the sugar skull, and depending on the particular design that's chosen, the spirits will reward you in a different way.

Every pattern will always lead to the same reward, so once you've found a good one if you convince your crew to recreate it, the same reward will happen again!

A Special Spiritual Bot

Invite bots into your game during the Día de Muertos, and you may find one of the regular crew replaced with a special La Catrina-themed bot! She’ll only join your games during the Día de Muertos event, but she has her very own personality and appearance for you to enjoy.

Minor Hotfix Patch | Softlock Prevention and Stability Improvements

Hey everyone 👋

This small update focuses on eliminating a few softlock scenarios and improving overall interaction stability.


🔧 Softlock Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where opening the paper with wallet credentials and pressing ESC instead of TAB would softlock the game

    • If players press ESC by mistake, the game now returns control properly

    • No more getting stuck on this screen


🎮 General Improvements
  • Improved input handling logic in UI interactions to prevent accidental lock states.

  • Minor adjustments to menu focus behavior during gameplay interaction sequences.

  • Small internal cleanup to improve stability across note-reading and interaction screens.

  • Additional minor checks added to reduce risk of manual softlocks.

Thank you for your continued support.

October saw us push forward with work at a furious pace.

Graphic Production

We created approximately 200 main image assets, including character portraits, objects, and stills.

It was extremely challenging, but we managed to get this far.

However, various additional images needed for implementation have emerged, so it's not yet fully complete.

We plan to proceed with debugging simultaneously.

System Implementation: Day 1 Event to All Endings

The actual text import was relatively quick since we had already set up the format during the demo version stage.

We also managed to get the system to a state where all major endings can be reached through a continuous playthrough.

However, branching paths and variable management still need refinement, so further adjustments are necessary.

Additionally, several endings and horror effects remain unimplemented; we will add these as needed.

PV Release

We created a roughly 1-minute PV to coincide with the Tokyo Game Dungeon 10 event on Sunday, November 9th.

It also serves as a teaser for the build.

Future Plans

We will proceed with the demo update alongside event preparations.

We plan to be ready for test play immediately after the event concludes.

Overall progress is currently around 80%.

We will continue development.

We will strive to announce the Steam submission in the December monthly report.
