SYSCALL Programming Bundle

SYSCALL: RING ZERO and Algorithms, together. Two offline programs about engineering, design and reading and writing code for a machine you can inspect instruction by instruction. One is a puzzle game built on reverse-engineering assembly; the other is a practice environment for writing C. Both run a deterministic virtual machine, both report what your solution costs in instructions, and both work with no network connection.

SYSCALL: RING ZERO

A reverse-engineering and assembly optimization puzzle game set in a fictional 1990s warez BBS. You read code listings, trace machine operations, modify code, and write assembly programs. Over 200 authored puzzles across four modes:

• CRACK. Read the listing, find the secret input key, and bypass the protection.
  
• PATCH. Fit the smallest fix into fixed edit slots, then run the test battery.
  
• WORM. Program a dynamic up to nine-core rack, route values across ports, and cut lines and cycles.
  
• SCOPE. Write firmware until the live trace locks onto the ghost signal.

Everything runs on the SYSCALL CORE, a compact fantasy CPU. Solving a puzzle is not the end of it: leaderboards track speed, efficiency, and code size. The board also carries reference material, crew messages, records, and two tools, CANVAS, an assembly pixel editor, and TRACKER, a chip-tune composer. Every screen is playable with a gamepad, including text entry.

Algorithms

A self-contained offline algorithm practice application with a built-in retro C compiler. 150+ problems across twenty categories, for programming interview preparation and for keeping the skill current.

• Browse a searchable catalog with difficulty, category, and solved state
  
• Open a problem and read the description, example inputs and outputs, and hints
  
• Write C, with a real-time source disassembly showing how it becomes machine code
  
• Drop down to assembly with asm { } blocks
  
• Run the complete test set, including the hidden cases, and validate your solutions
  
• Record accepted runs with tests passed, instructions executed, and code size
  
• Work in a polished modern environment or a retro one simulating 1980s GUIs

The sandboxed virtual machine has no clock, no randomness, and no host access. The same solution costs the same number of instructions on every machine, so a recorded best is worth comparing.

Both products

• Deterministic virtual machines. Instruction counts do not vary by computer, which is what makes recorded results comparable.
  
• Offline. No accounts, no cloud service, no subscriptions.
  
• Assembly and C. SYSCALL: RING ZERO is assembly throughout. Algorithms is C, with inline assembly available.

Both expect a basic understanding of how a computer works. Algorithms additionally expects a working knowledge of the C language.
