Some adventurers master steel, others the arcane. The Sage seeks mastery of both body and spirit.

Sages are not bound to one place alone. Some hail from the Monastery of Illumination on Kaxos, where spartan training hardens both mind and flesh. These are island ascetics, pale-robed monks who endure silence and hardship to wield the staff as both weapon and discipline. Others walk from the deserts of Opalar, where mystics temper philosophy with survival and zeal. They are guardians and visionaries, heirs to southern traditions of astronomy, poetry, and holy law, yet as quick to raise a quarterstaff as a prayer.

In Blood Sword, the Sage walks two traditions:

  • The Warrior-Monk
    Trained in endurance and combat, these Sages master the quarterstaff, break nerve points with trained strikes, and shield allies with chants and mantras. They embody strength through discipline, turning willpower into armour.

  • The Mystic-Scholar
    These Sages pierce the veil of the unseen. They sense thoughts, glimpse the future, see through fog and shadow, and banish spirits that linger too long. They heal the wounded, dispel curses, and in rare moments rise from death like the Phoenix itself.

Both paths share the same foundation - wisdom tempered by hardship, power sharpened by restraint. Whether in battle or in silence, the Sage is the still center of the storm.

The Discipline of the Sage
  • Premonition unlocks ESP and Paranormal Sight, letting you read surface thoughts and see through mist, water, or curtains.

  • Exorcism banishes ghosts and wraiths, silencing what should not linger.

  • Occult Lore reveals the meaning of runes, symbols, and forgotten relics in story encounters.

  • Levitation lets you bypass obstacles, rise above danger, or confound enemies.

  • Mind Over Body grants up to +6 Endurance, anchoring spirit to flesh.

  • Tranquil Spirit strengthens your Psychic Ability by up to +2, a shield against the supernatural.

  • Quarterstaff Technique rolls three dice instead of two, striking harder and forcing enemies to lose their next action.

  • Healing restores some Endurance to allies, channeled through the cosmic flux.

  • Mantra of Salvation halves all incoming damage for four turns, a bulwark in desperate hours.

  • Dazzle blinds foes in a burst of light, lowering their prowess and Awareness.

  • Mirage summons an illusory clone to draw enemy attacks.


The Sage’s Place

The Warrior brings steel, the Enchanter brings spellcraft, the Trickster brings guile. The Sage brings balance - healer, seer, monk, mystic. From the cloisters of Kaxos to the spires of Opalar, they prove that the greatest weapon is neither blade nor spell, but mastery of the self.

We planned to release Veterum a few years ago, but decided to take our time to realize everything we had in mind. This delay has benefited the game — there are new mechanics, items, terrain objects and quests, as well as many minor and not-so-minor improvements. I would like to thank everyone who has followed the development of the project for many years and believed in us. Every kind word, every like, and every addition to the wish list gave us strength and inspired us to continue working.

 

Veterum will be released in early access on November 27, 2025. The demo version of the game has been available for over a year, and during this time we have received a lot of useful feedback. However, the later stages of the campaign have not been tested enough, so we decided to release the game in early access. The full release is scheduled for 2026.

In the version that will be released on November 27, it will be available:

- almost the entire story campaign (except for the final missions);

- the entire world map and a full set of game mechanics;

- all side missions;

- map and unit editor;

- lots of technical and visual improvements.

In fact, it will be a fully finished game, except for the last story chapters and some balance edits.

 

The main differences from the demo version 0.9.2.

The talents of the units. Each unit can now have a penchant for learning certain characteristics, reducing the cost of upgrading them by 20% or 40%. Talents are given randomly. The main character and the attached characters have fixed talents.

The main character. The characteristics for all biographies have been completely redesigned.

Illumination of cells. In battle, inaccessible cells around the selected unit are now highlighted (the option can be disabled in the settings).

Automatic placement of units. The algorithm has been redesigned before the battle.

Corrections of the Musketeers. Fixed a bug with shots, and the Dwarf Musketeers gained +2 Accuracy and +1 Strength.

Improved interaction with inventory. When selling or equipping items, the scroll no longer resets. A new item can be put on without first removing the old one. The available slots are highlighted. Item filters in cities and camps have been redesigned.

A warning when improving features whose effects do not add up.

Cities. It now displays the number of days until the merchant's assortment and the list of mercenaries are updated.

Maps and map presets. Many have been improved.

 New introductory art. Two new terrain features.

And many other minor edits and improvements.

 

!!! Important!!! Old saves won't work. Hopefully, this is the last time. Due to the preparations for early access, the demo version will be closed on October 24 for an indefinite period.

🕹️ Minigame Changes
🔪 Traitor Trouble
We've added much necessary map obstacles and music to Traitor Trouble, fixed an issue where innocents could prove their innocence by pointing their arm, and we've fixed a major issue where high-ping-traitors' kills would sometimes not get counted! ✨🏗️

⚽️ Football Fever
We've been noticing an increasing amount of ties as of late in Football Fever, probably because players are getting better at goalkeeping, thus keeping multiple players alive towards the end of it. 😅

Ties used to resolved by picking a random surviving member as the winner, but from now on - if there's multiple survivors - whoever scored the most goals will win! Besides resolving ties in a more fair way, it will also encourage people to play somewhat more aggressively, and thus reducing the odds of ties happening at all! 🧐

🏠 Condo Changes
🎨 Wall Paint
You can now paint the walls of your Condo in any of your unlocked Paints by painting the attached anchor (Gate, Vent, Ceiling Lamp) with a secondary color of choice! (The primary color will be applied to the anchor itself.) 🌈
With that in mind, Condo walls by default have returned to their original vibrant blue color, but can be manually painted black to return to their look in the previous update!
🪟 Shutter
Besides allowing you to paint the walls, we've also added a window frame and a new 'Shutter' anchor:

Pull the Shutter down, and you can make your Condo window-less:

Every Condo comes fitted with a Shutter, so no need to open any cases for this one! 😜

~Patch Notes~

  • Implemented Smooth 3D Animation blending.

  • Auto-Aim mode has been buffed and acts like a hard-lock mode. you still need to get your opponent with in the FCS Radius. (Auto- aim mode is toggled with 'Tab' or the 'select button')

  • Patched Skate and water splash particle effects so their transparency layers display correctly

  • Machine Gun Bullet life time raised slightly. This extends the range of the the machine gun.

  • You can now toggle the low res PSX graphics in the settings menu. so now you can look at your mechs in HD! The pixel shader is off by default this patch. next patch I'll make the PSX shader default instead LMAO

  • You can now stand still to counter act knock back velocity from high impact attacks and stop quicker.

I forgot to announce the addition of 3 new weapons last patch

  • Added arm weapon - Howitzer

  • Added arm weapon - Heavy Sniper Cannon (HS Cannon)

  • Added back weapon - Grenade Launcher (uses placeholder model art)
