Subnautica: Below Zero

Developer Unknown Worlds is still hard at work on Subnautica's frosty standalone expansion, Below Zero, nudging ever further through early access on PC - and its latest efforts are available now in the Arctic Living update, bringing all-new mod-cons to players' underwater abodes.

Note that those wanting to keep Below Zero's surprises at bay until its full, final release, should stop reading now.

Alongside a shiny new glass dome to place atop your habitation chambers, Arctic Living introduces the new, matter-of-factly named Large Room. This highly modular living area is significantly bigger than previous offerings, providing ample space for budding homemakers to slot in new partition walls, partition doors, and furnishings.

Subnautica: Below Zero

Developer Unknown Worlds is at it again, bolstering its standalone Subnautica expansion, Below Zero, with a brand-new update - introducing new biomes, creatures, modules, and an adorable robot penguin for undercover espionage.

Well, technically, "penguin" isn't quite accurate. The icy corners of ocean planet 4546B are populated by alien fauna, so what we're actually dealing with here is a Pengling. And the spy version is as nifty as it is adorable, enabling players (while in Exploration mode) to work remotely without bothering wildlife.

The device comes equipped with robot arms, for grabbing nearby objects, plus four handy storage slots. Better still, its Document mode can be used to grab sneaky photos of local fauna without disturbing their habitat - and it's even possible to snap adorable Pengling selfies.

Subnautica: Below Zero

Subnautica: Below Zero, developer Unknown World's standalone expansion to last year's brilliant underwater survival adventure, has just received a new early access update, introducing (among other things) the series' very first land vehicle: the majestic Snowfox.

Below Zero, if you've not yet had the pleasure, unfurls on a previously unseen part of ocean planet 4546B, a year after the events of the main game. It marks a departure from the original experience, however, in both its icier, chillier climes (and new, biome-appropriate flora and fauna) and its more sizeable stretches of land too.

Those landmasses are even more notable in the new Snowfox Update, courtesy of the Glacial Basin. This new biome is a "wide stretch of frozen land boasting diverse geographical features such as waterfalls, caves, rivers, and lakes". It's also home to the "shockingly aggressive" new leviathan-class Chelicerate, and "terrifying" new land beasts known as Snow Stalkers.

Subnautica: Below Zero

Subnautica: Below Zero, developer Unknown World's standalone expansion to its brilliant underwater survival adventure, just got its first big Early Access development update - and, with it, the mighty Seatruck!

Below Zero, if it's somehow managed to pass you by, takes place one year after the events of the main game, and challenges players to survive a disaster at an alien research station. All this unfolds on a previously unseen part of ocean planet 4546B - one that, as the game's subtitle very heavily implies, is a little bit icier, and a little bit chillier, than anything seen before.

Unknown World's standalone expansion entered early access on Steam and the Epic Games Store at the end of January, and today's update - known, appropriately enough, as the Seatruck Update - brings the first major additions to the in-development game.
