Risk of Rain 2 - Suncles

Welcome to the 4th and final pre-release Devlog for Alloyed Collective - before we take a closer look at Drifter and her abilities let’s get into that release info you’ve all been patiently waiting for.

Release Details

Alloyed Collective will release on the 18th November 2025, for the same cost as the previous DLCs at an SRP of $14.99 in the USA (as far as regional prices - whatever the SRP that Seekers of the Storm is in your location right now, that’s the price Alloyed Collective will be!)

Is it worth wishlisting Alloyed Collective now you know when the release date is? ABSOLUTELY, DO IT RIGHT NOW so you know the INSTANT it's dropped!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2781620/Risk_of_Rain_2_Alloyed_Collective/

A quick note for our Nintendo Switch players — the team has a couple additional improvements we want to make before releasing Alloyed Collective on Switch. Unfortunately, those changes couldn’t be completed in time for our original target, so the Switch version will arrive a bit later.

Alloyed Collective will launch on PC & both generations of Xbox and PlayStation on November 18, with the Nintendo Switch release date to be confirmed once we’ve completed the final round of optimizations.

Drifter

Introduced in Risk of Rain Returns, Drifter is making the leap into 3D landing with the best of her Brawler-Support kit from Returns. But worry not, there will also be some brand new exciting additions to her kit - the likes of which we’ve never seen in Risk of Rain before, and probably thought we never would!

Key to mastery of Drifter and her abilities is managing her unique resource: Scrap Junk. Yea... so we were gonna call it scrap like in Returns. But scrap is already a thing in ROR2. So it’s junk now, just go with it… Generated by attacking enemies, Junk litters the battlefield until you collect it, it’s up to you to choose if you use it up quickly to empower your attacks - or max out the meter, unlocking the full potential of Drifter's most powerful abilities.

Her most reliable source of Junk is her primary attack Blunt Force.

Blunt Force

With Blunt Force Drifter does a triple-melee-swing with her massive sack dealing 170% damage per swipe. The third attack in the sequence is a larger 350% damage slam which also stuns enemies. Each one of these attacks has a chance of beating some junk out of your foe.

There are some more special features of Blunt Force. But they involve her other abilities so we’ll be talking about those as they come up further in the Dev Diary. One such interaction involves her unlockable Secondary attack…

Junk Cube

Usually in these Dev Diaries I focus on the Survivor’s base kit and let you discover the unlockable skills for yourself, but with it being a fan favorite from Returns and being featured so prominently in the reveal trailer how could I not switch things up and highlight her unlockable secondary ability: Junk Cube.

Slam down a huge cube of Junk for 400% damage which you can then whack with Blunt Force a further 3 times before the cube blows up for a final 800% damage.

You can even cast aside the laws of physics and ride the cube while you slap it with Blunt Force turning Drifter into a guided missile of death and destruction.

If you’ve got a lot of junk in the… uhhh… sack you can bypass the ability cooldown by consuming 4 Junk and immediately creating another Cube. This allows Drifter to turn her precious resource into multiple cubes of chaos (Patent Pending*)

Using Drifter’s brand new Utility ability Repossess you can even pick up the Junk Cube and throw it directly at your enemies. I wonder how many other objects you can pick up and throw using Repossess?

Repossess

Yes. The answer is Yes.

She really can pick up and throw anything that isn't bolted down.

And even a few things that probably should be.

In fact, unless it would be completely gamebreaking (picking up the teleporter and throwing it off the stage would be questionable game design at best) chances are Drifter can Repossess it.

While being held in your bag your primary Blunt Force does additional damage based on the mass of the object you have held, and you gain additional Junk from killing enemies this way.

However EVERYTHING held has a health bar. Using blunt force repeatedly while holding the chest you promised to keep safe may not be a wise plan…

Some of the objects you can pick up even have unique interactions with enemies. For example if you lob a wisp at an enemy it’ll set that enemy on fire - but I won't spoil all of those interactions in this Dev Diary. Ok maybe one more.

We cannot wait to see the creativity the community uses with this ability to break the game in ways we've not even considered. A couple of my favorites include a pretty broken interaction involving one of Captain’s beacons…

And once during testing Bruno was taking his sweet time looting the stage so I relocated his Engi Turrets to the teleporter without him knowing…

And speaking of “helping” teammates, that leads us to the last ability we’ll be revealing - Salvage.

Salvage

Drifter’s Special Ability Salvage is the one bit of her kit which has been essentially unchanged between Returns to Alloyed Collective. Once your Junk meter is 80% full you can consume it all and generate 4 temporary items.

Salvage is where the “Support” part of “Brawler-Support” comes into play - you can take all these items for yourself, or share them with your teammates - whether you like it or not.

“But Mr Community Manager man, doesn’t that mean temporary items are a new item type in the DLC that you’ve managed to deftly keep secret throughout these amazing Dev Diaries??”

It sure does Billy - and forcing your friends to play as Drifter so you can follow them around waiting for them to use Salvage is not the only way to get temporary items in Alloyed Collective.

Final Thoughts

Now we’re done with the final pre-release Dev Diary and we’re SO CLOSE to Alloyed Collective I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has followed along over the last few months.  After seeing everyone’s reactions to the Seekers of the Storm post-release improvement phases and now seeing everyone get excited for Alloyed Collective- the whole team cannot wait for you to get your hands on the latest addition to Risk of Rain.

During these Dev Diaries I've showcased and previewed all the exciting content you’re used to: Survivors, Stages, Items, Enemies etc. There is, however, even more content in Alloyed Collective that we've not even hinted at. Systems, Stages, Encounters - There’s some amazing stuff in there that you 100% are not expecting that I am desperate to tell you about..

…but for the sake of your own ability to discover it all, I shall refrain. Just know it took a lot of effort to keep my big mouth shut.

Make sure you let us know what you think of Drifter and Alloyed Collective too when it's released on November 18th - the best place to do that is on our Discord.

Risk of Rain 2 - Antler Shield

Welcome to the third Dev Diary for Alloyed Collective where you will be introduced to the latest Survivor on the roster for Risk of Rain 2: Operator.

With the new Drones being introduced with the DLC we wanted to design a Survivor that made the most of these new and improved battle companions. But don’t worry, Operator doesn’t just sit back and let the Drones take all the glory. Instead, he uses their abilities to enhance his own combat skills making this union of man and machine an agile powerhouse on the battlefield.

As always, you know the rules, before we get started head on over to the Alloyed Collective Steam page and wishlist that sucker! Seriously, I’ll wait… done? Okay, let’s keep going!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2781620/Risk_of_Rain_2_Alloyed_Collective/

Lone Operator: H3-11 OCR Custom

Although Operator arrives on the planet with 2 drones of his choice he’s certainly more than capable of defending himself without them. For starters, he has his primary: H3-11 OCR Custom pistol.

Like the majority of the primary attacks in the game you can just hold down the attack and let it do its thing. It does a respectable amount of damage and is more than capable of popping Wisps and dropping Lemurians. It even has an added bonus of each kill shot ricocheting to the enemy with the lowest health nearby dealing 75% of the bullet’s damage.

However, the truly big brain Survivors among you will let this primary stack up a bit. Each stack increases the damage of the shot and if you let it get the full 3 stacks it transforms the H3-11 OCR Custom into a deadly skill shot that would even leave Railgunner jealous.

A fully charged shot is highly accurate, does massive damage, and has no damage fall-off. That’ll allow the patient and skillful among you to turn Operator into a front-line sniper… and you didn't already forget about the ricochet did you??

Ace Operator: Ascent Protocol

Operator’s Utility Ability allows you to very rapidly navigate stages to press the advantage, escape danger, or just style on your enemies. Introducing: Ascent Protocol.

Command one of your Drones to boost you up into the air and clip on for a smooth descent back to the ground - all the while having full use of all of your other abilities letting you rain destruction from on high.

Operator might look diminutive but even the most hench of drones cant keep him in the skies forever. Luckily after a brief cooldown you can aim at one of your spare drones and re-activate the skill, leaping towards it and maintaining your flight even longer.

Operator never loses in a game of “the floor is lava.”

Smooth Operator: Ejection Core

Operator doesn’t have to rely on his bullet ricochet to deal AOE damage to monsters. With his special ability Ejection Core he can overcharge a drone and yeet it at a group of his enemies to melt health bars and shred their defences.

Not only does the drone impact hit like a truck, it also launches enemies into the air and applies the Bugged debuff to them and stuns them while they are airborne. Any enemy with the Bugged debuff takes additional damage and their descent is slowed allowing you to continue pelting them with bullets even longer ramping up the hurt to ridiculous levels.

Just using your own attacks might let you get a couple of kills while using Ejection Core, but with the help of your Drones you can absolutely lay waste not only to Bugged enemies, but the entire ecosystem of Petrichor V…

Drone Operator: ADMIN-OVERRIDE

You’ve probably noticed throughout this superbly written Dev Diary there's a little aiming reticle that keeps popping up on enemies. Well, that's not your target, it's your Drones’ target.

When using Operator’s secondary ADMIN-OVERRIDE you command your currently active Drone to attack its target with an ability which is different & unique to every Drone in the game, new and old.

This works in conjunction with his passive Drone Queue which cycles through your available Drones, including those purchased during your run, one by one, after using any of Operator’s Drone abilities.

For example the Healing Drone once activated both heals you AND gives you a temporary speed boost.

Some Drones have entirely new unique attacks, like the Bombardment Drone. This shocking addition dashes to your target and fires stunning chain lightning. That’ll make any affected enemies an easy target for its follow-up AOE bombardment attack.

But my favorite of the bunch is the good ol’ TC-280 Prototype which, on command, does a deadly strafing run that obliterates any targets in its path.

Each new Drone that you collect gives you an extra charge of this ability. So if you’ve got a tough teleporter event coming up you can save those charges up and on your command UNLEASH HELL WITH YOUR ARMY OF DRONES.

Operator also comes with a full suite of alternate abilities and starting Drones to choose from but I'll let you discover those for yourself when Alloyed Collective arrives later this year.

And now for a small bit of bad news: We don’t have a release date for you today.

I know many of you will have rocked up to this Dev Diary excited to see the release date for the DLC. But there are still a handful of things we want to sort out before we give you a date.

I announced in Dev Diary 2 that it was our goal to make Alloyed Collective the best addition to Risk of Rain ever, and in my humble opinion we are damn close to achieving that goal, we just need a little bit more time to get there. When we give you the date, we want it to be a cast-iron guarantee, but we can't do that today.

The good news is we’re still very much on track for a release later this year as promised. In the end we want the team to have the time they need to make DLC3 without having to crunch.

Again, our sincere apologies to everyone looking forward to that particular reveal today. We’ll share a date with everyone as soon as we’ve locked it in.  - trust me when I say it will be worth the wait!

Never Operating Solo

Operator is the first of two new Survivors coming in Alloyed collective, in the next Dev Diary we’ll be showing off the 2nd who is returning from a previous Risk of Rain game!

Let us know in the comment section who you hope it’ll be & head on over to the Alloyed Collective Steam page and give it a wishlist. We’ll see you again real soon!

Bye for now!

Risk of Rain 2 - Antler Shield

Hi hi!

By now you’ve probably seen the announcement for Alloyed Collective, our third expansion for Risk of Rain 2!  Today, we’re going on a safari deep into the Solus-controlled regions of Petrichor V along with some very exciting news for fans of the series in this dev update. But before we crack on please head on over to the Alloyed Collective page and give it a wishlist!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2781620/Risk_of_Rain_2_Alloyed_Collective/

I recommend watching the video Dev Diary above for all those juicy details you just can't capture in a written version!

New Team Additions

We want to make Alloyed Collective the single best addition to Risk of Rain ever - and that is one hell of a high bar. But how are we even going to approach this lofty goal? There was only ever one answer: assemble the ULTIMATE RISK OF RAIN CONTENT TEAM.

Step 1: Hire some of the best content creators for Risk of Rain 2 to supplement the already very talented team at Gearbox Software. A key factor in Risk of Rain 2’s success has been its massive modding scene. It’s existed from the very start and has grown into a huge community of creators pumping out some amazing content. So we reached out to the creators behind some of our favorite mods like Starstorm 2, Fogbound Lagoon & SillyItems and brought on a squad of elite mod creators to join the DLC3 team (to be clear, their modded content is not contained in the DLC - they are working on NEW content!)

Step 2: Next we needed the perfect soundtrack. After his work on the Seekers of the Storm Shattered Abodes track “I Should Build the Man a Statue” we have brought the highly talented musician Stavros Markonis onto the Alloyed Collective team to compose the whole soundtrack. Stavros worked closely with Chris Christodoulou on DLC2 & DLC3 to nail that special Risk of Rain sound while adding his own unique flair - and to quote Chris directly when talking about the DLC3 soundtrack...

Real.

Step 3: On top of the modders and Stavros we’ve also brought on two people who have previously worked on Risk of Rain 2 to rejoin us on the DLC - firstly, prolific ROR1/ROR2 modder Sivelos who wrote the majority of the log entries for Risk of Rain 2. And lastly, one of the co-creators of Risk of Rain 2: Jeffrey “Ghor” Hunt has also rejoined the team for Alloyed Collective!

Tome Writer Extraordinaire. This talented new bunch, alongside the tenured team of developers we have here at Gearbox Software, has formed a team that we think will make Alloyed Collective best ever addition to Risk of Rain.

New Content

You may have seen the scope of Alloyed Collective in the previous Devlog, for those who missed it, here's what will be included in the upcoming DLC*

  • 2 New Survivors

  • 6 All-New Stages

  • 6 New Enemies

  • 15 New Items

  • New Bosses, including a new Final Boss encounter.

  • New Elite Type

  • New Survivor Skins

and..

  • 7 New Drones

But Why Drones?!

But why not drones!? One thing that might stand out compared to previous DLCs is the inclusion of 7 new Drones. With the technological theme of this DLC we thought it was high time this often-overlooked aspect of ROR2 was given a bit of love. Drones are a part of the game ripe for expansion - with the exception of Spare Drone Parts in SotV there have been zero changes to drones since the game launched!

Having a source of player-power that isn't item based allows us to design fun and powerful content for your runs without having to worry about excessively diluting the item pool. Some of these Drones bring mechanics we’ve been thinking about for a while. We wanted the gameplay they could bring to your kit but they never quite made sense as an item or player ability. Adding extra drones is a perfect opportunity to get some of these ideas into the game and into your hands.

We didn't stop with just adding new Drones, we’ve also improved the AI for all Drones to make them much more useful battle companions. Drones are now faster, copy their owner's target, and are generally just smarter/better at using their skills. They also move less erratically and stay closer to their target.

Finally, we wanted to put a real focus on Drones in Alloyed Collective by giving one of the new Survivors some special interactions with them - we’ll be revealing more about this drone-centric Survivor in an upcoming devlog…

Solus Safari

I asked on the Risk of Rain Discord what aspect of the DLC people would like to see most in this dev update (other than the new Survivors.) Some said stages, some said enemies, others asked for Items and many asked for new Drones. Being a man of the people, I decided to give you a sneak-peak at all four.

First up we’re taking a visit to the Pretender’s Precipice where we’ll come face to face with the Solus Invalidator

This broken weirdo rolls around like a lost puppy looking to impress its bigger, nastier kin. But don’t be fooled, this unit has a unique attack which will be the downfall of the unprepared.

The Solus Invalidator overloads and fires a burst of energy so huge the unit is thrown across the stage with the recoil. Cute? Yes, but don’t get hit by this attack - doing so completely removes all item effects for a significant duration.

You’ll need some help defeating this new foe - or at least to avoid its attacks - The new Faraday Spurs will let you do both.

Once collected the Faraday Spurs will generate an electrical charge the longer that you sprint, increasing your speed and jump height up to +60% speed and +200% jump height when fully charged.

Once you are at least 25% charged you can jump, consume the charge, and unleash a huge explosive discharge for 400% damage making this uncommon item a great find for both mobility and offensive power.

Next up we’ll be heading to the Empyrean Adaments, where not all of the mining equipment is completely inactive…

This mean little ball of fury is not happy about the intruders to its resource-rich territory. Once you’re detected the Solus Cultivator locks in on your location before dashing at you with its drill-arm extended. Is it trying to kill you or simply extract your precious minerals? Who knows, either way it's not good news for the unwary survivor.

Luckily you have some new allies to aid you against the Alloyed Collective, and sometimes they synergize even better than items. Introducing the Freeze Drone and the Bombardment Drone.

We’re not always subtle when naming things for Risk of Rain 2; these two new Drones do exactly what their names suggest. The Freeze Drone fires a projectile that bounces between enemies up to 6 times applying the very powerful Freeze debuff to them. This sets up for the Bombardment Drone perfectly - hovering in place above its target and absolutely devastating any enemies below with a huge AOE damage.

We can't wait for you to play Alloyed collective later this year* and get your hands on what this new team has created! For now please don't forget to wishlist Alloyed Collective and we’ll see you again soon for the reveal of the first of two new Survivors.

Bye for now!

Seekers of the Storm - Thank You

We want to give a huge thank you to everyone who’s taken the time to leave a review for Seekers of the Storm following the completion of our overhaul roadmap. Seeing the shift in reception has been incredibly motivating for the entire team. The recent reviews are now sitting at Very Positive, and it’s been a joy reading your thoughts and feedback after all the changes we’ve made.

Even more exciting, the overall rating for the DLC has climbed up to Mixed, which is a major step forward from where we started. We know we had a lot to prove, and your support means the world as we keep pushing to make Risk of Rain 2 even better. We’re not slowing down - and your voices are helping us shape what’s next.

If you haven't had the chance to review Seekers of the Storm yet, we really want to know what you think! You can do so on the DLC page here:

Alloyed Collective Dev Diary #2

We’re excited to reveal that the second Dev Diary for our upcoming DLC, Alloyed Collective, will be dropping on June 12th. This first look will introduce you to some of the new people helping us develop the DLC, and we’ll also be showing off some of the early features coming down the pipeline. Expect glimpses of new stages, items, enemies, and some wild new drones we’ve been having a blast testing internally.

This devlog is just the beginning of our pre-release rollout for Alloyed Collective, and we can’t wait to show you more over the coming months. We’ve been listening closely to the community while shaping this DLC, and we think it’s going to bring a fresh twist to the chaos you know and love.

Risk of Rain 2 - Antler Shield
Memory Optimization

Today we have pushed an update to all platforms focused on optimizing memory usage - this should have a significant positive impact on low-end PCs and consoles, the most obvious of which will be vastly improved loading times, but all players should see some performance improvements.

Update Notes

While the memory optimization efforts should fix a multitude of bugs/crashes that were related to memory, we have also used this opportunity to address other issues and also added 28 new Steam achievements, mostly tied to Seekers of the Storm content.

  • Enemies are now significantly less likely to be forced through terrain with survivor attacks.
  • Fixed issue on XBOX (when using non-official controllers) where an input delay would occur on high refresh-rate settings.
  • The Anti-Aliasing setting will now function correctly (AA is no longer forced on.)
  • Stunned enemies will no longer stack the duration of stun when it is reapplied, they now have the duration of stun reset.
  • The SSAO, Sobel Lighting & Gamma Boost options should now function correctly.
  • Fixed multiple instances of SFX & ambient sounds not playing.
  • Fixed issue with CHEF's momentum being reduced once Oil Spill had been used.
  • Seeker’s Reprieve and False Son’s Meridian’s Will can now perform critical strikes.
  • Changed proc rate on CHEF’s Dice to the correct 1 (1.5 on charged/boosted.)
  • Changed proc rate of the 3rd projectile of Seeker’s Spirit Punch from 0.75 to 1.
  • As a client in multiplayer CHEF’s Dice couldn't crit with the first Cleaver throw (only on the return journey) - this has been fixed.
  • Seeker’s Palm Blast damage will now correctly scale with level.
  • Shaped Glass’s damage increase will now contribute towards Seeker’s Scorched Earth unlock.
  • The intro Gearbox/Hopoo Games logos will now display for the correct amount of time.
  • The Colossus Laser during the False Son Boss Fight will no longer target invisible players.
  • Clarified Seeker’s Clear Mind unlock to specify that the 20 Meditate inputs need to be in a row.
  • CHEF’s “You’ve Always Been Crazy” unlock is now an achievable on Commencement.
  • Chests (and Chest-like interactables such as Void Cradles) will now correctly show the Chest Icon when using the Radar Scanner equipment.
  • Fixed issue where the Disturbed Impact stage logbook was unobtainable if you had already collected the Titanic Plains logbook.
  • Changed “Mithrix” to “The Final Boss” in the description of CHEF and False Son’s new skill unlocks to avoid spoilers for a 6 year old game.
  • The Lunar Wisp that would sometimes spawn inside a pillar during “The Final Boss” phase 2 leading to a probable soft-lock scenario will now correctly spawn outside of the pillar.
  • Void Infestors will once again burst out of Void Cradles rather than just plopping into the ground.
  • Fixed issue on Nintendo Switch where the Teleporter Portal Orbs would not appear (only their trails were visible.)
  • Common Tri-Shops (with white items) will no longer spawn on Helminth Hatchery and will be replaced with Uncommon (green item) Tri-Shops.
  • Halcyon Shrines and Lunar Pods can now spawn on Aphelian Sanctuary.
  • The Bazaar Shopkeeper’s voice will now emanate from the shopkeeper itself, not the exit portal.
  • Elite Beetles on Nintendo Switch will display the correct visual effects.
Risk of Rain 2 - preston.weiler
Hey everyone!
So, what’s next? Even before we wrapped up the SOTS redevelopment roadmap, a lot of folks were asking what our plans are for the future of Risk of Rain 2. That’s a fair question. So now that Seekers of the Storm has officially relaunched (if you missed it, you should absolutely go try out bouncy CHEF), we want to give you an even more holistic view of what’s to come.

Let’s start out with the most exciting news. Introducing Risk of Rain 2: Alloyed Collective! While we’ve been releasing updates for Seekers of the Storm, we’ve also brought in some additional folks that are familiar with Risk of Rain to help us build out the next DLC. We’re still a ways out from launch, but we wanted to bring everyone in early. In the coming months, as we reveal new parts of the DLC, we’re excited to hear all your thoughts and feedback on where we’re going.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2781620/

In case you missed it, here’s the announcement trailer for Alloyed Collective:

In Alloyed Collective, we’re traversing deep into the Solus-controlled territory of Petrichor V. That means scores of new Stages, and terrifying Solus constructs. Well, one of them is pretty cute, but we’ll get to all that later.

Here’s a sneak peek at what’s to come:
  • Explore 6 All-New Stages — From cliffside scrapyards to machinery-choked fortresses and buried caverns, each biome pushes deeper into Solus territory with dynamic layouts and environmental threats.
  • Master 2 Survivors — One returns. One debuts. Both are built to survive the escalating storm.
  • Command 7 Drones — New Drone types let you augment your playstyle with some wild abilities. With the help of a new station, you can even modify your Drones to suit your needs.
  • Fight 7 Enemies — The Solus have been gathering — and building — as they perfect their plan. Now their creations are hunting you.
  • Challenge Massive Bosses — Face a brutal new Teleporter encounter — and a final boss that reshapes the endgame.
  • Loot 15 New Items — Expand your arsenal with a new haul of mislaid UES property.

Our Next Update
While much of the team is now working on Alloyed Collective, that doesn’t mean we’re totally finished with SOTS updates. Overall, we’re really happy with where DLC2’s quality has landed after all these updates/patches, but there are still a few more things the team would like to plug away at. And, like we mentioned on Monday, we’ve also been working on an optimization update for the game’s system memory.

DLC1 & DLC2 were already pretty chunky pieces of content. DLC3 promises to be similarly sized. When we add more content to the game, the last thing we want is for someone’s experience to be degraded because there’s just more ‘game’ to load. That’s why we’re taking on this challenge. We expect the most significant impacts of this to be felt on low-spec PCs and Nintendo Switch, but it’s laying good groundwork for when Alloyed Collective arrives.

And that’s a wrap. We’ll be back soon with more info on Alloyed Collective. In the meantime, enjoy the new skills that just showed up for Seeker, False Son, and CHEF <3.
