The Surface Persona: A Stoic Veteran in the Shadows

Once a bright-eyed, rising star on the force, Officer Jiao now spends his days tucked away at the station, far removed from investigative work. However, he has remained a constant and comforting presence at the same precinct he enthusiastically joined all those years ago.

Where Lianshen bursts with energy and fire, Officer Jiao is the opposite: reserved, methodical, and difficult to read. He maintains an aura of calm detachment, the perfect archetype of the classic detective. Yet beneath this seemingly aloof exterior lies an intelligence honed by years of experience and a sharp sense of perception that catches every last detail.

Some players might initially find Officer Jiao cold, or even indifferent. But spend more time with him, and we’re confident you’ll find that his stoicism is only a front, a wall he has carefully constructed over the years. Behind it lies the echo of a case he can’t escape; silence is less his refuge than a constant reminder that some things are best left unspoken.

Inner Drive: The Double-Edged Sword of Second Chances

While second chances can be blessings, they can also be curses. These opportunities allow us to revisit unfinished stories, to right what once went wrong. But they also demand that we face what we’d rather forget: past mistakes, lingering regrets, and painful memories.

For Officer Jiao, the diary that lands on Lianshen’s desk is more than just evidence. It is a mirror held up to the past—a reminder of when he was young, ambitious, and ultimately consumed by the shadows of the Zodiac Murders.

Now, as he takes Lianshen under his wing, Officer Jiao is confronted by a reflection of his former self in that very mirror: a passionate, headstrong young man who is unwilling to give up. In that reflection lies both a burden and a gift. Officer Jiao is offered a chance to reexamine the paths he once walked and the choices he once made, but at what cost?

When we designed Officer Jiao, we wanted to focus less on heroism and more on the quiet, complicated reality of human nature.

• How might our choices, which seemed so right at the time, manifest in the future?

• Are so-called “second chances” simply cruel tricks of fate, or true opportunities for growth?

• Does regret force us to change, or are we doomed to repeat the same mistakes?

Everyone has moments in life they wish they could revisit—a decision they might undo, a word they wish they’d spoken, or a silence they wish they had broken. Officer Jiao represents this universal struggle. He is not simply a mentor figure or a weary veteran policeman, but a man living with countless “what-ifs,” forced to confront the reality that second chances are never simple. They can bring clarity, but they can also reopen old
