Bad Memories - bmrec

Sorry, this is not a content update.
This time I changed the Gallery code so much, it's basically a complete overhaul. I've tested everything and had a few other people try it by sending them the new gallery script and everything seems to work, but without updating the full game (several script-files have changed and some image names), I can't really be a 100% sure, so to the Beta branch it goes.

I've had a lot of trouble with the old gallery, the code was a mess (well it still is tbh, but it's a lot better than before), it desperately needed an overhaul, so I did that, changed a lot of code, optimised a few things, shortened and/or combined some of the code, changed the design slightly, etc..

There are also a few new images and some that I had to change/replace, since there was no possible way to get them without using the dev console, for those you might need to replay the specific scene for them to show up.

Aside from the gallery I've added 2 new animations and a few render to the latest Kat scene (male MC only for now). This is no content update, but since I had them done and ready I thought I'll include them as a small encouragement ;)

Have fun and as usual, if you find any bugs or errors, let me know!

Melted Time Playtest - Tracker

Thanks for actively playtesting!

You left a lot of feedback and useful comments over these days. Each of them is now a separate task on my list.

To avoid interrupting the playtest unexpectedly, I'm announcing: access to the test build will be closed on the 16th. If anyone still wanted to try it, you still have time.

Thanks for the playtest.ːsteamhappyː

theHunter: Call of the Wild™ - EW_Vivi

Hi everyone! My name’s Chris, and I’m a Game Designer on theHunter: Call of the Wild. Today I’d like to talk to y’all about the new Game Feeder Pack that the team and I have been working on.

Bringing Feeders into the Wild

First things first. Let’s talk about the inspiration behind this pack. Feeders are used all over the world in many different real-life hunting environments. Not to mention, attracting animals with feeders was something players could utilize back in theHunter Classic.

As developers, we had to ask ourselves a few questions before cracking on with it, though. What do players need? What do we want them to be able to accomplish? And, quite importantly, how do we go about it in this game in a way that makes sense with our systems?

With all of this in mind, we set ourselves some goals:

  • Give players a tool to more directly interact with different animal groups.

  • Give players new reasons to explore and engage with older reserves.

  • Make it work with whatever gear players already have, to help them create new hunting experiences, pursue their own goals, and tell their own stories while playing the game.

So, we put together some proposals, tried some things out, learned from our mistakes, and the Game Feeders Pack DLC is the result. Let’s take a look at what we came up with.

The Feeder Lineup

The new DLC will include 3 different Game Feeders. You’ll be able to deploy them across your hunting reserves, placing up to 8 feeders on a single map. Each feeder will have a couple of bait types to choose from. There’s a minimum 300m placement distance limit between all feeder structures, so keep that in mind when you’re planning your hunt.

The Box Feeder can be filled with either Fortified Pellet Feed, which is rich in protein, or Multigrain Flake Mix – high in carbohydrates. It’s constructed in such a way that only taller, snouty animals like deer, antelope, moose, etc. can eat from them. The feed only depletes when animals visit the feeder, so you can use this as a way to check if there’s been any activity in the area. They are quite delicate though, and can be vulnerable to being knocked down and raided by bears.

The Post Feeder uses the same types of fodder as the Box Feeder, but has a different mechanism to dispense the feed. This means that a broader variety of animals can feed from it, and it’s resistant to bear attacks. However, it will still attract bears if they’re in the area, so make sure to keep a keen eye on things! With the Post Feeder, the fodder trickles out at a constant rate, so be sure to keep them topped up.

And if you were wondering how to deal with those pesky bears, then the Bait Barrel Feeder is here to save the day. These feeders use two totally different types of bait: Meat Scraps and Sour Fermented Mash. They are much preferred by bears over the fodder in the other two structures. You can use this fact to tactically draw bears away from your other feeding sites. The Sour Mash also attracts Hogs, giving this feeder a handy second use case. Like the Box Feeder, the feed is depleted when animals visit, but it’s much sturdier and can’t be destroyed.

Maximizing Your Feeder's Potential

If you’re a newer player looking to rack up some XP and in-game cash, it’s not a bad idea to set up a couple of Post Feeders in different regions, since they can attract a broader variety of animals. If you find yourself making enough kills to raise the Hunting Pressure in a specific area, just travel over to the other feeder and hunt there for a bit to balance things out. Also, if you’re focusing on deer trophies, then the Box Feeder might be the one for you, as it filters out a lot of the smaller ground feeding animals.

It’s a good idea to place feeders in the vicinity of animal travel routes. While they don’t need to walk right on top of where the feeder was deployed, they do need to wander through the general area to learn that there’s tasty food there. Once it’s the animal’s feeding time, if you have the right setup, they’ll remember where the good stuff is and come to the feeder to eat.

So, as well as scouting for where animals wander across the reserve, you’ll also need to learn their schedules – they will visit Game Feeders at the same times that they’d feed at their regular Need Zones. But remember, you can place the Game Feeders almost anywhere. Spots between distant Need Zones are great, especially if many animal groups cross paths there at different times. Don’t be afraid to experiment to find the best setup for your hunts.

Personally, I like to use the Game Feeders to set up a hunting spot somewhere where I can use the terrain or other hunting structures to my advantage. Oftentimes, I’ll pick a clearing or meadow near some wooded areas, where I can draw deer out in the open while I use the occasional low wall for cover. I’m a big fan of hunting with the Hudzik .50 Caplock, so having a clear line of sight whilst remaining relatively close is pretty important. Other times, using elevated terrain gives a really good view of the action, and I can’t wait to try out the Feeder-Bow-Treestand combo some of our testers have been raving about!

See You in the Field

Designing features that are intended to work over a long period of time, on top of many different game systems, is definitely a challenge, but it’s been a really fun and rewarding journey.

We hope you’ll enjoy the Game Feeder Pack.

The Colorful Creature - Infiland

Hi everyone, Infiland here, I'm writing this to let people know something.

Asteroids ++ and The Colorful Creature will continue to support Windows 10, despite it’s deprecation today. I will announce when those games will be out of support, the major factor would be GameMaker suddenly abandoning this OS.

Since The Colorful Creature is open source, you may still download old releases for their support, but note that online features won’t continue to be supported on old versions of the game and may not work

As for Monophobia Echoes, the next game we are working on, it may ultimately depend on the release of the game, as it will likely take years to finish, but if Windows 10 by then is no longer a major windows version, then it may be deprecated.

If you ask me, my recommendation is to jump ship to Linux if you don’t want to upgrade. Linux will always be supported by me as the Linux marketshare is increasing and is at all time high. This includes Steam Deck players.

If you want to support indie development, consider purchasing a donation gift. Thanks.

Starship Troopers: Terran Command - FremboT3

Next week, the new Territory Mode will become accessible for free to all players on the main game branch. After a period of closed and open beta testing, we are now eager to gather feedback from our broader community while we continue to add more content, features and improvements.

A quick recap: Territory Mode offers a new way to play, with a focus on freedom of choice and tactics. It is played on new maps crafted specifically for the game mode. You’ll battle the Arachnids for control of Territory Points - which provide a steady flow of resources - adding a fresh strategic layer to the game.

Choose your Battle Group

A Battle Group consists of a set of units, turrets and abilities, allowing for different strategies and experiences in Territory Mode battles.

The currently available Battle Groups:

  • The Ground Pounders: Hardened veterans of the brutal desert war on Kwalasha. Command the classic Mk. II Troopers, blast through bigger problems with Rocket Troopers, and clear the way with various M-11 Marauder variants.

  • The Hell Raisers: A band of fearless mercenaries operating on behalf of the Federation. Wreak havoc with Shredder and Frag Mercs, defend and destroy with the Heavy Drilling Biped, and burn the Bugs down with a flamethrower-equipped M-11 Marauder! (Available to owners of the “Raising Hell” DLC.)

  • The Peacekeepers: The Federation's elite military police. Overwhelm your enemies with the J.A.C. Trooper, protect your forces with Riot Shield Troopers, command the skies with the Pegasus Gunship, and rain down hellfire with the M23 Rainmaker Artillery. (Available to owners of the “Urban Onslaught DLC.)

As part of the base game, all players have access to the “Ground Pounders” Battle Group. Each of the current DLCs includes its own Battle Group, which features units from their respective campaigns alongside some units from the base game.

Battle Group Technologies

Each Battle Group also comes with a set of Technologies, which can be researched in battle to unlock unit types, abilities or enhanced unit performance.

Missions across the galaxy

Once a Battle Group is selected, the Galaxy War screen allows you to choose your next mission. These missions can take you to the base game's desert world, Kwalasha; the volcanic planet of Gehenna; or the cityscape of Managar on planet Varuna. The last two are available only if you own the respective DLCs. Each planet presents its own distinct set of maps, mission objectives and unique Arachnid threats, ensuring every mission feels fresh and challenging.

Territory Mode features a total of 27 unique maps if you own all the DLC’s:

  • 11 maps in the base game.

  • 9 maps in the Raising Hell DLC.

  • 7 maps in the Urban Onslaught DLC.

Ownership of any DLC grants access to its specific Battle Group and enables you to play missions with all other Battle Groups on that DLC's planet.

Fight for Territory

To succeed in Territory Mode, your primary objective is to capture and hold Territory Points to gain and maintain control of the battlefield. Securing key positions at critical moments is crucial and often determines victory.

Be prepared for a fierce fight, as the Arachnids will not give up easily. As the mission progresses, their strength increases. They'll launch relentless counter-attacks, reinforce their territory with stronger units, and construct nests to solidify their control over a position.

A new, vital resource is introduced in Territory Mode. You use these resources to purchase units, reinforce squads that have taken casualties, and unlock Technologies. Unlike Supplies, this new resource is not refunded when you take casualties, so spending it wisely is crucial. Territory Points must be captured and held to generate a steady income of resources over time.

Gain Prestige

Progress in Territory Mode is tracked individually for each Battle Group. Completing missions gives you access to additional Technologies, and unlocks cosmetic rewards.

Finally, we extend our gratitude to all beta participants for their invaluable contributions in identifying and eliminating bugs. Your dedication was instrumental.

We’ll see you in battle on the 21st. Service guarantees citizenship!
