v0.3.14 Major Steam Content Update, Halloween Bonus Items, and Bug Fixes
Hey Everyone!
We're here at last with a Major Content Update for Steam ahead of the Christmas Update which will mark the last major update on Steam for 2021 (we have a tonne of content planned for 2022). Those of you that follow our Discord news will already be aware that one of our team was injured in a violent attack that put us behind for a month or so, they've now recovered and the spade with which they were attacked has been immortalised in-game.
The bulk of this update is fleshing out the art, world, and systems to enable the next phase of the main story. This does mean that there isn't any new major quest content in this update, though some such as Milk & Honey have a few alternative options along the way.
Halloween Content
Accursed Tales Sit beside the campfire to discover a further secret of the kingdom's past. Use your newfound knowledge to search for the other Halloween content or perhaps avoid the dangers altogether...
New 'Cursed Felian' Playable Race Stride across the sands of Sabu in a body that has almost totally succumbed to the Curse of Kethra.
Member of Pure Essence Equip yourself with a manhood forged from the souls of those poor unfortunates that fell to the God Queen's Curse.
Character Customisation
We have undertaken a visual overhaul of our player models, with both Felians and Draconids sporting all-new models. Our beautiful cat-girls now look far less like teddybears than they previously did.
You can now pick your starting sex and ethnicity from the very start of the game, with new forms, skins, and details unlocking as you discover them in the world. You can shape your body, from breast size to bodyfat and other options besides. This does mean that unfortunately most clothing is not compatible with the new system and will not be usable yet in-game, this will be updated and the clothing will added back with a BONUS update to Steam, in addition to the usual release schedule.
The available species are currently limited to Humans (Male, Female, Futa), Draconids (Female, Futa), Felians (Female, Futa), and Cursed Felians (Female, Futa). Due to incompatibility with the new customisation system the Demi-Humans (human/anthro hybrids) have been temporarily removed but will be added back in a subsequent patch.
The next major update at Christmas will bring Canines to the world of Carnal Instinct, with Jackals making their first appearance (without a mask at least).

Combat Upgrades
You can now face your foes with daggers, longswords, spears, and a spade. Combat has receieved countless upgrades including soft-lock, assassinations and much much more. Be warned, a bug with enemy awareness has been fixed so they can now attack you from behind!
More Goo-d Stuff
Carnal Instinct isn't just about the gameplay, you also need to be able to unwind. To this end there's a new scene that seems particularly appropriate to the Halloween timing of the update; the Primal Goo Girl encounter. If you've previously discovered the goo tentacles but not found a use for them (other than the obvious) then you're now in luck. By taking the captured goo to a particularly disreputable slave trader you're able to have it combine with her... before "combining" with you.
Camp & Crafting System
The Player Camp has finally arrived, enabling you to now begin customising your new home. For now this is limited to a small range of building and decorative options but the available upgrades will expand over time.
The Camp also opens up the possibilites of crafting, both weapons and consumables. Many ingredients can now be discovered in the world, either from merchants or the bodies of fallen foes. These items combine at the Weaponsmith and Alchemist to enable the creation of very valuable items including powerful weapons.
Prison Break
You arrive at your camp, animal skulls and metal ingots in hand, but where is the Weaponsmith to craft your mighty spear? Well he's locked up in a cage somewhere. One of the new features we've added is Caged Prisoner Encounters. For now these are just used to recruit the two tradespeople for the camp, but as we move forward they'll play into quests both big and small.
Enriched & Expanded World
A large amount of our world was essentially placeholder - we're a 5-person team and there's just too much for us to handle in one go. That said we've radically overhauled and improved the map, both in terms of visual quality and also believability. There's now a better flow to many areas of the map, as well as additional places to find loot and encounter enemies.
Improved Animation
We're now making use of Performance Capture in our sex scenes and other content, with numerous examples already implemented in this build of the game we're using this technology to greatly increase the fidelity we're able to achieve in cutscenes.
Game Difficulty & Content Preferences
You can now select your preferred game difficulty and sex content preferences in the menu. Thi allows you to disable Male/Male, Female/Female, or any other content combination (the NPCs will still be in the world but you won't be able to engage with them sexually).
Using a Controller to Play Carnal Instinct
We don't yet support controllers (support for this is in development) however if you are going to use a controller we highly recommend using a steam input profile to do so. You can access this setting here:
Plans & Future Development
Our previous roadmap has now been revised based upon several votes put to the community. The updated roadmap is available here. Please be aware that the months represent when said content will go to playtest, not be condition that is ready to ship. As usual major updates will drop at least once every three months, with regular additional bugfix updates and other content drops throughout the year.

Patch Notes (Afterlife 1.1.4) Highlights: After defeating 5 heroic bosses, WILL no longer increases from dying. It can still be increased from other sources. Blades of the Phoenix motes are no longer consumed after blocking.
Crash fixes: Improved memory usage in the Caer Siorai ceiling on PC, some computers should no longer crash here. Improved memory usage in the ??? room with the rain, it should help some computers not crash here.
Balance: Bysurge Heroic now drops capes instead of boots. Spells/Bullets created by the giant drone and ash (during heroic thalamus) deal damage sooner if you blocked an attack recently. Serpent Barrage and Spear Rush now correctly scale with STR if using the spear adjustment talent. Halberd Lunge and Cyclone correctly scale with FIN if using the halberd adjustment talent. Owlking journals correctly increase damage dealt to Owlking boss.
Misc: You can now correctly place markers on the edges of the map. After defeating Aberrant AI and getting the cutscene with Death, the markers on the map will now persist after the cutscene. Fixed a weird issue in which getting stomped by forgotten gaian would cause Sorun to play a weird knocked down animation. Amulvaro double sword attack no longer hits the player from behind even if the player has the turtle shield. Amulvaro's heavy sword attack now has a more forgiving parry window, it was a bit buggy. If Amulvaro dashes from a portal above the player he will now have his sprite correctly facing down. Infinity Slicer uses correct sprite when player is has weapon charged and they move forward and back. Charge sound effect now correctly plays when charging Infinity Slicer. Soul Gambit now correctly increases spell blade shadow clone damage. Spell Blade shadow clone now correctly deals damage when using a spellblade air attack. Flying rabbits no longer deal damage while player is in a cutscene in the Rabbit Burrow. Buying multiple weapons or armor from a merchant now correctly gives you all the weapons and armor you bought. Endless no longer lowers WILL every time she is defeated in heroic. Dying to spikes after defeating Cusith no longer bring you to the boss death results screen. Going to NG+ and talking to Alistair (without resetting the game) no longer shows recipes obtained before NG+. Assault Drone now teleports to Sorun instantly if the drone is too far away. Skeleton Key is now purchasable from the Acolyte Lizard Merchant. A few other misc fixes.
Patch Notes (Afterlife 1.1.5) Forgotten Gaian kicks no longer deal damage while under the effects of improved fortitude. Amulvaro miniboss debuff no longer deals damage if under the effects of improved fortitude. Can now correctly buy abilities from ione in darkness falls while in keyboard only mode without closing the ability purchase ui. Should no longer lose soul trigger ability when respeccing. Fixed an issue which cause the hammer amarog enemy to fall down a platform in the central sanctuary ice cave. Fixed a bug that caused the main menu to get stuck in its original version. Added a missing save point icon to the map in Journey's End, if in NG+ and the acolyte class. Darkeater greatsword dash now correctly scales with int when wearing theurgist aura. Soul boost ability no longer reduces cooldown of ability in slot 1. Player can no longer use a crow plume to teleport out of the first few rooms of Collapsing Nightmare. Heroic Forgotten Gaian is a bit easier now. Some enemies will no longer say they dropped items that are over +12 upgrade level, even if they actually didn't. Would happen in high NG+. Rain now correctly falls during the Bulwark boss fight again. Standing over broken save points as an acolyte class now correctly show a prompt that indicate you should press the interact button. Immortalite blade no longer gives damage bonus even if not attacking with Immortalite Blade. Can no longer trigger a grey wanderer cutscene in labyrinth if she has been attacked enough. Skytomb purple orbs no longer deal damage when half visible. Projectiles from Inquisitor halberd now get their damage correctly adjusted. Valkyrie spears that fall have their damage correctly adjusted. Perfect blocking with perfect block haste no longer reduces the cooldown of ability in slot 4. Dark sigils no longer apply a new buff tooltip instead of refreshing the old one. Fixed a crash with heroic Eldritch Council related to defeating her before any of her other eldritch casters. Enemy projectiles now correctly despawn after defeating heroic Forgotten Gaian. Blind bomb and blind traps now only gain charges if you have the correct trap mastery talent. Dive kick now correctly affects Wraith King Sirad. Skybreaker explosion now correctly scales with finesse if longsword adjustment is unlocked. Soul trigger should no longer duplicate. Added a failsafe that makes the fortitude spellbook appear again if you lost the ability via a bug. Valkyrie plume healing amount is now correctly affected by vitality stat. Pyroclasm talent now also makes tome fire 2 explosion create many bouncing fireballs that hit enemies around you. Explosion from cosmic bow now correctly benefits from marksman aura. Parrying a sorun doppleganger that is using the tome dark 1 dash attack no longer causes him to repeat his animation. Now correctly parries him. Can no longer take damage from chamber floating mines while in a cutscene. Exiting to the left inside the afterlife room with the valkarie miniboss no longer teleports the player to a weird spot in the next room A few other misc fixes.
The server will be down for maintenance on Oct. 28th around 1 am PDT (8 am GMT and 11 am MSK). We will send you 30 coupons as the compensation afterwards.

1: The game may be out of sync when using a high-spec monitor.
When playing on a 144Hz monitor, it has been confirmed that the game speeds up the video, audio, and subtitles during events become out of sync.
If you are experiencing this issue, as a temporary solution, please try to limit the FPS to 60 using the software function of your graphics board, or change the "Refresh Rate" in the "Advanced Display Settings" of your PC.

The Monthly Bingo System has been released! Please take note of the following, to enjoy its rewards!
- Completing a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal line will give you rewards. - Completing the whole bingo slots will give you the completion reward. - Activate a slot by acquiring the item shown in each bingo slot. - Any item that you already have in your inventory is activated - Clicking a bingo slot will show you ways to activate/acquire the item requirement - A slot that is showing a lock button means that you just need to unseal that item in your inventory. - A dark shaded bingo slot means that you don't have that item yet in your inventory - A light shaded bingo slot means that the slot is already activated

There was a problem when leaving the game and coming back to complete the pickup of the different color collectibles. If you left the game then came back and completed picking up all remaining color collectibles, you would not get the achievement for picking up all of them.
With this fix, if you have picked up all items and have not received the achievement, simply starting to the main menu will recognize you have collected all items and provide the appropriate achievement.

Yesterday we presented our Mayan warriors. According to some members of our family/community, the warriors were lacking prominent indigenous features.
We listened to your feedback and decided to make modifications and show them to you. We've always stressed the importance of receiving comments, opinions and support from our community and you never fail us!
Nevertheless, It is important to understand that the concept art we upload is a collection of references designed for our 3D team. In many cases, we use generic models to show the textures and materials to the modeling team.
We take the liberty to upload the progress of our development process, something that most studios do not do, since Mictlan is a Kickstarter project and we want to maintain a transparent and honest relationship with you all.
It is also important to note that everything we upload to our social media is a WIP. The final product, when Mictlan will be published in 2025, will be possible totally different.
