Servers are now going back to the classic 1v5 mode as planned and we will update you on any future schedule.

This week’s Hunt with a Friend playtest features a new matchmaking flow and addresses some balance changes. As we’re working on improving the general balance of the game, we made a few changes that applies to both the new and classic games modes.

Today’s playtest is a ‘’2 hunters versus 10 scavengers“ mode. The playtest is from 6PM to 9PM EST.

HOTFIX 0.1.6.3 New Matchmaking Flow
Following the feedback received from previous playtests, we decided to try a new matchmaking flow, combining the Hunt with a Friend and the classic 1v5 features. This change allows both modes to be live at the same time.

It works as follows: the queue type is decided by the hunters. As the guardians of the Enclave, they decide this specific garden rule.

When two hunters decide to hunt together, a Hunt with a Friend match is created. Hunters must be in the same lobby for the HWF match to start. If the hunter is alone, a classic Deathgarden match is created instead. Hunters queuing alone will not be paired with another hunter: they will always queue in the 1v5 mode.

Scavengers are drawn from one big pool of players: they will either join the first or the latter to ensure every hunter has the right number of preys.




General Changes
Gameplay: Healing Bolt Trails Last Longer
  • The healing bolt trail lasts from (2)s → (3)s.

Changes affecting the Hunt with a Friend
Gameplay: Quantity of Drones Reduces
  • The quantity of drones is reduced from (20) → (15).
Gameplay: Amount of Blood Required Reviewed
  • The amount of blood required for a ‘’Blood Domination“ is now 250.

GENERAL
[Freeze][Garden][Gold Rush] Rare occurrences of game freezing for 15 seconds when Blood Mode is activated in Gold Rush.

VFX
[Garden][Gold Rush] The watery effects in the tunnels are appearing incorrectly due to lightning.

ANIMATION
[Scavenger] Scavengers' vambrace shakes erratically while aiming down sight.
[Scavenger] While aiming down sights, scavengers are able to run when they don't have arrows or bolts.
[Hunter][Poacher] From another player’s perspective, The Poacher’s LMG’s belt feed is animated when he is idle.

COLLISION
[Locker Room][Scavenger] There's an invisible platform above the Cosmetic Vendor in the scavengers' Ready Room.
[Garden][Blowout][Scavenger] Scavengers are unable to land on the top of a large chimney due to a collision issue.
[Garden][Gold Rush] Some water towers miss projectile collision.

UI
[HUD][Hunter] Upon initiating a recycle on a scavenger who has not been recycled yet, the execution text briefly states that execution is enabled.
[Locker Room] When looking at a vendor while aiming down sight, an extra yellow exclamation mark will appear behind the character.
[Locker Room] Vendors’ signs over the vendors' stations aren't displayed in the same way.
[Weekly Challenge] The ''completed'' banner on the weekly challenge overlaps with its countdown timer.
[Text] When the players switch the language, the scavenger rank doesn't update until they have entered a match or a menu.

MENU
[Spectate][Controller] Spectate mode displays two button prompts with “Y” when using a controller.
[Character Select][Controller] In the Character Select screen during matchmaking, “LB” and “RB” button icons are displayed.
[Settings] When in the Settings menu, the “enter” key doesn't work after players select a drop-down option using arrow keys.

AUDIO
[Execution][Recycle] Placeholder sounds can be heard when a hunter recycles or executes.

MATCHMAKING
[Scavenger][UI] The scavengers' waiting time display doesn't show the real waiting time.
[Game mode] When the game mode changes, players who are in the middle of a match are kicked out automatically.
[Scavenger] Scavengers searching for a match have to cancel and search again if the match was created by the hunter after their initial search.

PRIVATE MATCH
[Garden][Golden Rush] The Gold Rush map doesn't appear in the map selection for private matches.
[Locker Room] After a match and when the private match's host is the hunter, scavengers will turn into hunters and vice versa, and new hunters will fall out of the world if they attempt to move in the Locker Room.

LOCALIZATION
[Cosmetic Vendor] The "Cosmetic Vendor" name is not localized.
[Cosmetic][Ghost][RU][DE][CH] Ghost’s “The Coming Revolution“ vambrace cosmetic name shows a placeholder text.
[Cosmetic][Dash] Dash’s “Lie in Wait“ lower body cosmetic description is not localized.

FIXED ISSUES
[Fixed][Crash][Locker Room] Crash occasionally occurs when returning to the Locker Room after completing a match.
[Fixed][Garden][Blowout][VFX] Lightning issue occurring in Blowout.
[Fixed][Garden][Fire in the Sky] Sometimes, Blood Piles spawn really close to each other in Fire in the Sky.
[Fixed][Cosmetic Vendor][Stalker] The Stalker’s arm bends unnaturally in Character Select and Cosmetic Vendor screens.
[Fixed][Cosmetic Vendor][Controller] Crash may occur when switching rapidly between the Character Select and the Cosmetics menu when using a controller.
[Fixed][Scavenger][Garden][Dust and Blood] Crawling scavengers cannot move over the last step of the Dust and Blood’s landmark stairs.
[Fixed][Perk] Perks are displayed in the incorrect order.
[Fixed][Character Select][Controller] Players are able to switch between roles while in the View Info menu when using a controller.
[Scavengers][Perk] Dash's 'Code Optimization' and Switch's 'Toil Together' perks stacked at maximum level while they should not.

We pushed a hotfix August 12th:

- Fixed a bug where the player would spawn under the map after being recycled on Fire in the Sky

Fire in the Sky is back in the regular map rotation.

- Fixed an exploit allowing Dash's ''Code Optimization'' and Switch's ''Toil Together'' to stack
- Fixed an issue in the Hunt with a Friend feature: players were unable to switch their hunter character
- Fixed a role switch issue while in a party: players were disconnected and prevented to create a new party when switching roles

Due to a technical issue, we temporarily removed Fire in the Sky from the map rotation.

In the meantime, this doesn't affect the Hunt with a Friend playtest.

The newest patch is upon us. All the information you need is detailed below.



NEW FEATURE: GOLD RUSH
Our main addition in this patch is the new 1800s-inspired Gold Rush map. Amid the mine’s galleries, you must master every corner if you want to hide or to find your prey.

The map is a desert with a hurricane slowly falling on you. The lessen visibility caused by the weather’s elements adds a certain atmosphere to it.

Biome: Desert
Weather: In the eye of the hurricane
Garden elements: Wood cart, windmill, water tower, mine shafts, mine carts, crates, barrels.

NEW FEATURES & IMPROVEMENTS

GENERAL
  • Gameplay: Daily Challenges
- Daily challenges called ‘’Domination’’ are added to the game.
- Both scavenger and hunter have their own challenge.
- The Daily Challenge is ‘’Dominate [1] Game(s)’’.
  • UI: Notification When Something Can Be Bought
- When going back to the Locker Room, players will see a notification sign above both the Upgrade and Cosmetic Vendors when something can be bought.
  • Improvement: Modified Character Outlines to Help Players with CVD issues
- Modified character outlines to help make them more obvious.
  • Localization: New Announcer Reverb
- The announcer’s localization files have a new reverb processing.

GARDEN
  • Audio: New Abductor SFX.
- The abductor’s SFX includes a more techno touch and a deeper sound to add to the immersion.
  • Tombstone: New Ambience SFX
- Tombstone has more ambient sounds to enhance its atmosphere and to better define its mood.

HUNTER
  • Immersion: Custom Stun Animation
- Each hunter has its unique hand animation when using the stun ability.
  • Audio: New character sound environment
- Each hunter has new, tailored circumstantial sounds instead of generics.

SCAVENGER
  • Gameplay: Heal Bolt Arrow Trail Duration Increased
- The heal bolt arrow trail duration length is doubled.
- Design Goal: The intent is to make healers more easily to track.
  • Gameplay: ‘Code Optimization’ Perk Increase Collection Modified
- Dash’s ‘Code Optimization Perk’ now increases the collection speed of blood instead of health/ammo/power core crates.
  • Immersion: Custom Interaction Animations
- Each scavenger has a custom interaction animation.

FIXED ISSUES

Hello Deathgardeners!

The time has come for hunters and scavengers to try a new hunting ground. We’re introducing today a new procedural map, called Gold Rush!

Gold Rush is a desert-themed map. It distinguishes itself by its red environment, its dooming hurricane and the mine infrastructure in its centre. An ominous atmosphere that fills the Deathgarden with a feeling of unease.



Biome: Desert
On the United States’ West Coast lies an old, abandoned gold mine. There used to be plenty of mineral deposits in Arizona, but they now stand as forgotten testimonies of better times. The life around them was disturbed by the Collective and Unity wars. All that’s left are obsolete structures whose shadows crept over the desolate lands, marked only by the sporadic life of the desert’s flora.



Weather: In the Eye of the Hurricane
‘’Under heavy, storm-laden, Arizona skies, a Divided recon unit was scanning the north-eastern horizon for possible threats.“

As the sky falls on you, a terrible storm greets you. Lightning strikes and dust stirred by strong winds will lessen your visibility. It’s called the ‘’Eye of the Hurricane “, because you feel like at the world’s end.

An overwhelming chaos is a proper design for a ruthless hunt.


Garden Elements: wood cart, windmill, water tower, mine shafts, mine carts, crates, barrels

Scavengers and hunters shall find themselves walking among broken rails, old barrels and mine shafts, all that which have been left behind. There are bridges to cross and gapes to hide into.

The tall tower glooming in the centre may be your last stand, as you climb the walls or run the rails under it.



Scavengers will find the mine carts and windmills useful to hide. Water towers offer the higher ground for whoever is brave enough to stand out of the shadow, but hunters may be lurking nearby in wait. Mine shafts may be the perfect spot for an ambush, as their long, narrow galleries don’t provide any cover.

Brace yourselves for the incoming storm, as the Gold Rush map arrives with the next patch on Thursday, August 8th.

Hello Deathgardeners,

Our new game mode is ready for playtests! Who’s better than our community to test it? We’ll hold different playtests this month to ensure that all community members can try it. Our new mode’s main feature is the entry of a second hunter in a Deathgarden match.

Our playtest sessions are called “Hunt with a Friend”, since hunters will be able to invite a friend—or another player—into the fray to hunt scavengers.

Keep in mind that this game mode is in development and that you may experience small issues.

Following today first playtest, we have scheduled other sessions to ensure everyone may try it.



What Will You Play?
There was one idea that we had shelved because of time pressure: a “2 hunters against 10 scavengers” mode. With the reboot now behind us, we can test it with the community. Almost every day since we revealed Deathgarden a year and a half ago, players have been asking to hunt with a fellow hunter. But more hunters also mean more scavengers. As we’re balancing the game between each playtest, the number of scavengers may slightly change.

How Can I Play?
As these are public playtests, there is nothing to do on the players’ end. The mode will replace the current one (1 hunter hunting 5 scavengers) temporarily.

After the playtest time, the classic mode will resume.

What About the Balance?
As testing a new game mode is no small feat, you may encounter some balancing issues. We have already made several changes to support the game mode, and we expect to continue working on it with your help. A playtest is an incredible opportunity to present what we’re working on and receive immediate feedback that helps us deliver a solid gaming experience.

We want to hear you! Threads will be opened on the forum and Steam Page to allow you to write your feedback. A dedicated channel on our Discord server will also be available for you, as well as an in-game survey link during each playtest.
