The phased approach we used for Jagged Earth was such a success, we're doing it again for the next major Spirit Island release: Nature Incarnate. And that gave us an idea for a contest!

This update has a few bug fixes, including:
  • The game will no longer get stuck while Exploring with Scotland 1+ when Mapmakers Chart the Wild is in effect.
  • Fixed an issue with Sacred Sites Under Threat, when if Shifting Memory of Ages had no energy and a single card with Fire in hand, the game could get stuck if you chose Guard Yourself, Forgot the card, but actually discarded it.
  • The game no longer gets stuck when Perils of the Deepest Island is used while Keeper of the Forbidden Wilds is in the game.
  • Fixed an issue in which Fortune-Seekers would not allow the correct Spirit's unique forgotten powers to be regained.
  • When Finder of Paths Unseen is returning Presence to its tracks, the choices for where you can return Presence are now correct.
  • When Forgetting 2 Power Cards for Numinous Crisis, Shifting Memory of Ages is no longer permitted to try to Forget the same card twice (by using their special rule).
  • Fixed an issue in which using Undo after Lesser Spirits Imperiled (Tend to your Own Strength) could result in Blight being removed from the card too many times.
  • The damage bonus from Gift of Furious Might can now be used on the threshold damage of Tsunami properly.
  • Entrap the Forces of Corruption now properly prevents cascades during Varied Terrains.
  • The Kingdom of Scotland Level 2 supported by The Habsburg Monarchy Level 5 no longer has Invader Cards in the wrong order.
  • The Kingdom of Scotland's 5+ Runoff and Bilgewater no longer triggers the additional loss condition of The Habsburg Monarchy.
  • Fixed an issue where The Habsburg Monarchy as a supporting Adversary could place its Waves of Immigration card in an incorrect position if the leading Adversary removed Invader Cards.

This update has a number of improvements and bug fixes, including:
  • Spirit Foresight now shows the Setup symbols in lands when you inspect them.
  • While playing with Diversity of Spirits, Powers that repeat themselves no longer cause the game to stop progressing.
  • When Resourceful Populace is in effect, Foundations Sink Into Mud no longer gets out of sync in multiplayer when used in a land with Finder of Paths Unseen's Presence.
  • Pour Down Power Across the Land will now work properly for Powers used during an Event.
  • Aid From the Spirit Speakers and Paths Tied by Nature can no longer be used to push Presence to an illegal land.
  • Responsibilities to the Dead will now only trigger once from Melt Earth Into Quicksand.
  • Spreading Timidity II/III no longer allows you to choose the same land more than once.
  • While using Pour Down Power Across the Island, you can no longer use both abilities at once if you select the Gain 1 Energy ability while resolving a repeated power.
  • Open the Ways is now usable between self-repeating powers like Lay Paths They Cannot Help But Walk.
  • Fixed an issue in Second Wave where Open the Ways could incorrectly apply to all triggered Actions if Finder of Paths Unseen was present in the previous game.
  • When the first and second thresholds of Lay Paths They Cannot Help But Walk are available, omitting the first threshold and not the second no longer causes the power to target no lands.
  • Finder of Paths Unseen pushing pieces with Paths Tied by Nature is now able to push into oceans when Ocean’s Hungry Grasp has a presence on that board.
  • Gift of Furious Might now increases the damage of Foundations Sink Into Mud.
  • Uncanny Melting now interacts correctly with Scotland 5+ and ocean Blight.
  • Fixed an issue in which Eager Explorers would not always recognize adjacent lands that are isolated, especially with Open the Ways.
  • When Sprawl Contained by the Wilds is in effect, Dahan no longer ignore the effects of Rain and Mud Suppress Conflict.
  • The Kingdom of Scotland's Runoff and Bilgewater effect no longer triggers on more than one Ocean when cascading between Coastal Lands on different boards.
  • The event Rising Interest in the Island no longer removes the specially placed Coastal Lands card from The Kingdom of Scotland 2+.
  • Fixed a problem where Foreign Dignitaries Visit could incorrectly boost damage in more than 1 land per board.
  • If a land under the effect of Weave Together the Fabric of Place is Ravaged and flips the Blight Card, using undo no longer causes it to Ravage again.
  • Habsburg Level 4 Towns no longer retain their Durability in lands with Blight when Sweden's Heavy Mining takes effect.
  • Fixed an issue where undoing with Heart of the Wildfire could cause continuous Blight and Minor Power prompts.
  • Repeating Drawing Towards a Consuming Void no longer ignores To Dream a Thousand Deaths.
  • Fixed an issue where ravages with Habsburg 6 would not work properly with Isolate in some situations.
  • To Dream a Thousand Deaths no longer ignores adjacency when resolving Forest of Living Obsidian.
  • Fixed an issue in Second Wave where Slow and Silent Death could incorrectly apply in all lands if Shroud of Silent Mist was present in the previous game.
  • If Heart of the Wildfire moves Presence to 2 different lands in The Struggles of Growth event, it will only trigger Blazing Presence in one of the lands.
  • In Elemental Invocation, the corner element between G3 and G4 is now shown in the correct location.
  • Fixed a problem where Let's See What Happens activating Swarming Wasps would ignore Isolation.
  • Spirit Foresight now shows the correct Ravage damage amount for a Strifed City when Curse the Tongues of the Foreigners is in effect.
  • Fixed an issue when Stone's Unyielding Defiance uncovers a "+1 Card Play" Presence space, the Minor Power would not draw correctly, and the placement could incorrectly be undone.

  • Downpour Drenches the World no longer incorrectly discards a set-aside Power Card in Second Wave.
  • A Spread of Rampant Green's first Growth option now properly recognizes Downpour Drenches the World's Sacred Site as Wetlands.
  • The game will no longer get stuck in A Diversity of Spirits if the Blight card is flipped during the Spirit Phase.
  • Scotland's loss condition now counts lands under the effect of Weave Together the Fabric of Place correctly.
  • While Scotland 5 and higher is in play, powers now can target the Ocean to remove Blight from it.
  • Fixed an issue in which Gift of Abundance could get stuck in multiplayer when choosing which Spirit should add Destroyed Presence.
  • Spirit special rule buttons now appear properly in A Diversity of Spirits multi handed solo mode.
  • In the How to Play screen, pressing Play Tutorial now asks for confirmation before abandoning an active game.
  • Fixed an issue where flipping an Adversary Card during New Game setup, then flipping back prevented the Adversary level from being adjusted.
  • Melt Earth Into Quicksand now interacts correctly with The Habsburg Monarchy 4 and the extra health on towns.
  • Fixed a Words of Warning visual issue, where the card remained in the center of the screen after making the selection to deal damage simultaneously or before Invaders.
  • Undoing the Beast Placement from Life's Balance Tilts now removes the placed Beast Token if undo is available.
  • With the Sacred Sites Under Threat (Guard Yourself) event, the second effect of Russia no longer alters the number of damaging lands when Invaders are pushed.
  • Fixed an issue in Second Wave where the game could become stuck while using Gift of Nature’s Connection as a set-aside Power.
  • Many Minds Move as One now can properly decide their sacred sites do not count as Beasts for Panicked By Wild Beasts.
  • When using Grinning Trickster Stirs Up Trouble, undoing Presence placement from the Growth Menu during the Dahan Push ability will now properly undo the push.

Promo Pack 2 Content

Spirits: Downpour Drenches the World bridges the high skies to the earth below with a cascading torrent of rain, and Finder of Paths Unseen traverses the island with ease.

Adversary: The Kingdom of Scotland has begun to quickly settle the Pacific Rim, establishing colonies in other key trading locations throughout the region.

Scenarios: A Diversity of Spirits and Varied Terrains provide new twists on gameplay in both multiplayer and single player.

Aspects: New ways to play familiar Spirits, portraying some facet of that Spirit’s nature more strongly or in a different fashion. Promo Pack 2: Feather includes five Aspects for the four low-complexity Spirits from the base game: Lightning's Swift Strike (Immense), River Surges in Sunlight (Travel), Shadows Flicker Like Flame (Amorphous & Foreboding), and Vital Strength of the Earth (Might). Each Aspect features brand new artwork by Nolan Nasser!

Other Fixes and Improvements
  • Spirit Foresight now shows the correct Ravage outcome when Xenophobia is in effect.

  • Invaders already "destroyed" and affected by Bringer of Dreams and Nightmare's To Dream a Thousand Deaths special rule are now able to be targeted by the damage of a repeated power.

  • When moving Dahan at the end of a Second Wave game, the Dahan will now be moved  properly to adjacent lands.

  • Hard Working Settlers (Act Cautiously) is no longer prevented from pushing Dahan due to Keeper of the Forbidden Wild's Forbidden Ground.

  • Fixed a problem where Slip the Flow of Time would sometimes not be able to allow Thunderspeaker to use its Innate Powers in the Fast Phase.

  • The game no longer gets stuck if you Try Again after losing in a solo game where you used Dream of the Untouched Land.

  • You will now be correctly prompted for Isolate adjacency decisions when Habsburg Level 6 is ravaging.

  • France's loss condition no longer incorrectly counts towns twice in lands affected by Weave Together the Fabric of Place.

  • When resolving the Blighted Island effect of Blight Spreads, a board without Blight can now be selected first.

  • Blood Draws Predators now correctly triggers in both lands under the effect of Weave Together the Fabric of Place.

  • Fixed a problem where the game could get stuck in Rituals of Terror when using Undo while resolving Dahan Attack.

Version 2.9.1 Hotfix

This update fixes some issues with progress for the new achievements not appearing, and one achievement being awarded incorrectly.

This update has several improvements and bug fixes, including:

  • Adversaries with dynamic additional loss conditions and/or Escalation effects now show context-sensitive information for those on their full size panel in-game.

  • Powerstorm's threshold now works correctly when reached via Shifting Memory of Ages' Prepared Elemental Markers.

  • Fixed an issue in which Wood Seeks Growth, Humans Seek Freedom could cause a desync in multiplayer if used on a land without your Presence and with another Spirit's Presence.

  • The game no longer gets stuck in multiplayer if Forsake Society to Chase After Dreams gathers Explorers into a land under the effect of Observe the Ever-Changing World.

  • Choosing if lands are considered adjacent to an Isolated land will no longer get stuck in multiplayer.

  • Scatter to the Winds is now able to push Invaders to an Isolated land.

  • Fixed an issue where the island could render incorrectly (too large, upside down, etc) on the end game screen.

  • When combined with Brandenburg-Prussia, Sweden's Royal Backing will no longer incorrectly place towns based on the upcoming Invader card instead of the discarded one.

  • Fixed an issue where if Cast Down into the Briny Deep destroys a board, or Dream of the Untouched Land adds a board, in some situations, Second Wave would incorrectly determine the island is disconnected.

  • When Slip the Flow of Time reclaims a card from play, the small innate power summary panel now shows the correct number of elements.

  • Fixed a visual issue on the 2D map in Dahan Insurrection related to moving Dahan into a land with multiple Invaders and Strife.

  • Dry Wood Explodes in Smoldering Splinters now prompts you to choose whether to use the 1 Energy to make it fast or other effects allowing it to be played fast.

  • Draw Strength From It While You Can (Numinous Crisis event) no longer incorrectly removes blight based on the number of boards and not players.

  • Forsake Society to Chase After Dreams is now able to replace Thieves with Explorers in the Despicable Theft scenario.

  • Fixed an issue where minimizing the discard pile during a Reclaim One effect, then re-opening the discard pile to complete the reclaim could cause the reclaimed power to be immediately discarded again.

2.8.3 Hotfix

This update fixes a problem where Starlight Seeks Its Form's Reclaim Half Growth Option did not reclaim any powers.

  • Added new ways to sort Spirits on the New Game screen. Sort by most played to find your favorites quickly; by least played to try a less familiar Spirit; or customize the ordering exactly to your liking by drag and drop.
  • Six and seven board layouts now fit on all screens during New Game setup.
  • Using Boon of Reimagining on Fractured Days Splits the Sky no longer leads to UI glitches.
  • Fixed an issue where Starlight Seeks Its Form could undo moving presence after dealing damage with its growth option in a land, and the damage is not properly undone.
  • Fixed an issue when playing with Starlight Seeks its Form, the Presence Panel of Serpent Slumbering Beneath the Island could have a distinct visual glitch.
  • The game no longer gets stuck if Gather the Scattered Light of Stars is used and there are no Unique powers that can be forgotten when Time Passes.
  • Visions of a Shifting Future can no longer move the Stage III Invader Card specially placed by Brandenburg-Prussia to the bottom of the Invader Deck.
  • Grant Hatred a Ravenous Form now gains the damage bonus from Devouring Teeth Lurk Underfoot's Territorial Aggression special rule properly.
  • If Spreading Wilds is used on a land with no Explorers under the effect of Observe the Ever-Changing World, and only adds a Wilds token, it now triggers Preparing an Element Marker as it should.
  • Fixed an issue where Pillar of Living Flame could behave incorrectly when used multiple times in the same game.
  • When Dream of the Untouched Land adds a new board, Powers can now immediately target a land on the new board using a source land from an existing board.
  • Dream of the Untouched Land no longer gets stuck adding a new board to an Archipelago island if you have a Power Card from Aid From Lesser Spirits.
  • Fixed an issue when rearranging 5 or 6 boards, a layout issue could occur where boards are incorrectly overlapping.
  • Navigating through Spirits very quickly in the card library will no longer result in the background image failing to load.
  • Swallowed by the Wilderness will now deal enough damage in all situations.
  • Fixed an issue where Talons of Lightning could get stuck in multiplayer when used as a set-aside power in Second Wave.
  • Dahan Insurrection no longer fails to end the game properly if you trigger both Coordinated Insurrection and the additional loss condition in the same Action.
  • Swallowed by the Wilderness no longer adds extra damage when using a Spirit's presence affected by Settle into Hunting Grounds.
  • Fixed issue in which Sweden Level 5 could still add a Town even if the Ravaged land is Isolated.
  • Fixed an achievement issue where reaching elemental thresholds that Repeat a Power were not counted for achievements if they were reached using Element Markers (by Shifting Memory of Ages).
  • Dragging to rearrange a Spirit summary panel when it (or the one dropped on) has a Reclaim 1 no longer causes the game to get stuck.
  • Ward the Shores now properly considers lands under the effect of Absolute Stasis for its victory condition check.
  • If Cast Down Into the Briny Deep disconnects the island, playing a Second Wave game now requires you to revert the island to avoid an unplayable situation.
  • Fixed an incorrect interaction between Starlight Seeks Its Form growth undo and Bargains of Power and Protection.
  • Fixed a situation where stacked invader cards were resolved in the incorrect order.
  • While Ocean in Play is in effect, and Weave Together the Fabric of Place expires, separating a combined ocean and land, Presence can now move properly to either land.
  • Fixed a problem where Seek Safety (Level 2) would not allow you to gather a Town into a land with City in some cases.
  • The Struggles of Growth (Leave Behind option) no longer allows you to move the same Presence twice.
  • Improved how Invaders Surge Inland works with Isolate so you do not have to enable the adjacency prompt.

Starlight Seeks Its Form

Every once and again, where starlight falls to ground there arises a new Spirit. Its essence is initially that of the stars and nighttime sky, but from the moment it touches the island it begins to change, adapting and reimagining itself for its new home. This one arrived shortly after the Invaders started to spread, and fights the Invaders even as it seeks to define itself.

6 Player Support

With Jagged Earth, you can now play with 5 or 6 Spirits (and up to 7 Island Boards). Up to 6 players are supported in online multiplayer.

No additional purchase is required; you will gain access to the new content and features with your existing purchase of Jagged Earth.

Rearrange Spirit Panels

Drag and drop Spirit summary panels to rearrange them on the screen at any time.

New Achievements

8 new challenges await for you to test your skills and explore new content.

Other Improvements and Fixes
  • Three new Playmat options are now included with Jagged Earth.
  • England's loss condition is now triggered properly in lands combined by Weave Together the Fabric of Place.
  • Clever Cooperation now works properly with Isolate and Russia 2+.
  • On Board F, Spirit Presence will no longer block the display of a City in land #4 on the 2D map.
  • While No Bravery Without Numbers is in play, Call to Guard no longer replaces the ravage with a build without a choice; instead it now offers the choice to either have Call to Guard or No Bravery Without Numbers take effect during the ravage.
  • Fixed an issue where if Overenthusiastic Arson causes the blight card to flip, undoing the flip may lead to effects repeating and a game freeze.
  • The Habsburg Monarchy's Stage II Escalation now adds the correct number of towns.
  • Event Cards no longer get stuck on screen, when using Undo without the Event Section Prompt option enabled.
  • If a Fear card causes the last City to be destroyed, generating enough Fear to reach Terror Level III, the game now ends immediately as it should.
  • If Life's Balance Tilts adds Blight that causes the Blight card to flip, using Undo will no longer cause the Blight to be incorrectly added again.
  • Fixed an issue in which during Ritual of the Destroying Flame, if you Forget a card in hand, the prompt "Warning: You Can Play More Cards" could incorrectly appear when no cards are left in hand to play.
  • Fixed issue where Fractured Days Split the Sky's Innate Power Visions of a Shifting Future could shuffle a revealed event out of the top 2 cards.
  • Keeper of the Forbidden Wild's presence placement from the 3rd Growth option will no longer remain in a land it shouldn't after undoing placement for the 4th growth option.
  • Fixed an issue with Cast Down into the Briny Deep not resulting in a Sacrifice Victory.
  • Thriving Communities no longer allows you to select a land under the effect of Absolute Stasis.
  • Forests of Living Obsidian no longer gets stuck in multiplayer when used as a set-aside Power in Second Wave.
  • When Sweden and Habsburg are combined, Heavy Mining will no longer cause too many Blight to count against the Habsburg loss condition.
  • Forests of Living Obsidian no longer gets stuck in multiplayer when used as a set-aside Power in Second Wave.
  • Fixed an issue where Scour the Land could incorrectly be used Fast by Shifting Memory of Ages without spending the required Element Markers.
  • Presence added by Skies Herald the Season of Return now properly counts as Badlands with Settle into Hunting-Grounds.
  • If Slip the Flow of Time allows Shifting Memory of Ages to use a slow power in the fast phase, spending Element Markers to activate elemental thresholds will now work properly.
  • Melt Earth Into Quicksand now interacts correctly with Bringer of Dreams and Nightmares.
  • Fixed an issue where the extra damage from Devouring Teeth Lurk Underfoot’s innate ability can sometimes be applied anywhere on the island when using Storm Swath.
  • Sleep and Never Waken no longer gets stuck in multiplayer against Russia 5+ if the generated Fear would reveal an Invader card.
  • Fixed an issue in which Sky Stretches to Shore could cause an incorrect interaction with Bargains of Power and Protection.
  • New Species Spread (Let the Invasive Species Bloom) no longer behaves incorrectly if you used undo.
  • Spirit Foresight now assumes that Isolate will be used to prevent Builds with England 1+.
  • Discord at Terror Level 3 no longer allows you to assign too much Damage to individual Invaders if there are multiple Invaders with Strife in a land.

What's Next: More Expansions!

As we previously announced, Promo Pack 2 and Nature Incarnate are in development this year, so there will be a lot more content coming soon.

Promo Pack 2 has 2 Spirits, 1 Adversary, 2 Scenarios, 5 Aspects, and 5 Fear Cards. On the tabletop it's now part of Feather & Flame, but in digital we already have Promo Pack 1, so Promo Pack 2 will be its own DLC.

Nature Incarnate is a major expansion that will bring 8 Spirits, 1 Adversary, 2 Scenarios, 20 Aspects, and 38 more cards, along with new mechanics like Incarna, Vitality tokens, and more. We expect to release Nature Incarnate with a phased approach similar to Jagged Earth.

  • A supporting Adversary can now be selected or randomized in Story-Based New Game if you have Jagged Earth.
  • When reporting feedback in a multiplayer game, the game state information from other players will now also be automatically sent and attached to your feedback (so other players do not have to also report feedback).
  • Thematic map selection now works properly in multiplayer.
  • Fixed issue in which Why Don't You and Them Fight could incorrectly generate extra Fear when destroying a Town/City.
  • Right clicking now shows the full card for a card gained by Let's See What Happens.
  • When Grinning Trickster Stirs Up Trouble is under the effect of Gift of Twinned Days, adding Strife now properly triggers A Real Flair for Discord.
  • If Overenthusiastic Arson is used on a land under the effect of Portents of Disaster, using undo in some situations can no longer cause unbounded Fear generation.
  • Fixed issue where Grinning Trickster Stirs Up Trouble could undo its Gain Energy growth after using the Energy to pay for its Reclaim growth.
  • Undoing during Let’s See What Happens second threshold no longer causes the power used to linger on screen.
  • Fixed an issue where Quick Play could generate a setup with difficulty 1 higher than desired.
  • Discord at Terror Level III now deals the right amount of damage in all situations.
  • Incite the Mob now interacts properly with Isolate and Russia 2+.
  • Using Visions of a Shifting Future fast by means of Slip the Flow of Time, then using Undo, can no longer lead to an Invader card going missing and preventing a Power Card gain later on.
  • Repeating Forsake Society to Chase After Dreams will now allow you to Gather all of the Explorers properly.
  • Using Undo after cascading from a Ravage that flipped the Blight Card no longer causes the Ravage to happen again in the same land.
  • Fixed an issue in which Ward the Shore's Stage III Surge would not add towns correctly while under the effects of the Fear card Explorers Are Reluctant.
  • When playing with an extra Island Board, if you destroy a board during the game, the end of game difficulty and score will now be calculated correctly based on the starting boards.
  • Invaders Surge Inland now correctly sees a land set to adjacent when the source land is isolated, and allows oceans to be marked adjacent or not.
  • Removing an East or West board from a 5-Board Thematic Map will no longer cause a board to overlap when it tries to reshape.
  • Fixed an issue in The Great River where you could be incorrectly prompted to pay for an Isolate effect that is not actually affecting a Town's movement.
  • Dream of the Untouched Land can now properly add a new board in the spot another board was destroyed by Cast Down Into the Briny Deep.
  • Fixed an issue where Russia 3+ would not consider a land under the effect of Voice of Command to match the Ravage Card when it should.
  • Dahan Insurrection now interacts correctly with the Hard-Working Settlers event.
  • Undoing Boon of Growing Power after repeating it with Gift of Twinned Days now works correctly.
  • The game no longer gets stuck in the Spirit Phase if you have a Spirit-targeting Power Card from Aid From Lesser Spirits in an Archipelago game.

Grinning Trickster Stirs Up Trouble

There are many trickster Spirits, but this one is the most infamous. It wears any form it pleases, but can always be distinguished by its multitude of eyes, though they may be subtle or concealed. It has a driving curiosity to see what will happen when it messes around with things. Of course, this may involve putting Spirits, people, and animals alike into suddenly precarious situations, so the Dahan appreciate its shenanigans best at a healthy distance.

Combining Two Adversaries

Through conquest or marriage, one Adversary nation joins with another, shifting their society and how they approch colonization. You can combine two Adversaries for a hybrid challenge, incorporating aspects of both.

Other Improvements and Fixes
  • Innate Powers are now usable in Elemental Invocation if they could only be reached by using Element Markers on the island.
  • When Shifting Memory of Ages spends Element Markers for a threshold that repeats a Power, you will no longer be prompted to spend them again.
  • When Sweden's Escalation and Call to Guard both affect an Explored land, you now get to choose the order in which they occur.
  • If Bringer of Dreams and Nightmares uses a Power that would destroy Explorers, it now gets to choose whether to get the bonus Fear from Russia 2+.
  • In multiplayer, Words of Warning will no longer cause some players to experience a soft-lock either through an unmoving, floating card or undetectable power options.
  • While Powerstorm is in effect, the power Trees Radiate Celestial Brilliance will no longer disappear.
  • The Ignore Their Contact With The Dahan option on Missionaries Arrive now works properly with Isolate.
  • Fixed issue where undoing Powerstorm could cause a power to be playable from the hand.
  • Forsake Society to Chase Dreams now correctly interacts with a land affected by Melt Earth Into Quicksand.
  • Fixed an issue in which Russia's Escalation effect would not resolve correctly when a board has no Beasts tokens, but a Many Minds Move as One sacred site.
  • The Casualties of Fang and Sting event now allows you to select a board that becomes applicable against Russia 2+ and its protected explorers.
  • Fixed a problem that could occur with power targeting after the effect of Weave Together the Fabric of Place expired.
  • Bureaucrats Adjust Funding now fully resolves during the turn it is flipped.
  • Irresistible Call now allows you to consider adjacent Isolated lands non-adjacent and avoid gathering those Invaders.
