Phasmophobia

It looks like Phasmophobia fans will be getting an early Christmas gift courtesy of a new update currently called Christmas [REDACTED] Update.

Though most of the salient details remain unknown - including when the update will release - we do, however, get an early peek at some of what's coming in the new content.

According to a new card on the game's public Trello board, new cursed possessions are en-route, including a tortured voodoo doll, a summoning circle, and new ouija board questions (thanks, PCGN).

Phasmophobia

Supremo scare-'em-up Phasmophobia is pulling a bunch of spooky new treats out of its ghostbustin' bag for Halloween, with today's massive new Nightmare update adding a haunted campsite map, four new ghosts, weather effects, and more.

Maple Lodge Campsite is Phasmophobia's first outdoor map and packs in everything you could possibly hope for in a spooky holiday retreat, including picnic areas, tents, a log cabin, and even a haunted lake. Developer Kinetic Games says the new map features "more unique objects, higher object density and more visual detail", and that players can expect other maps to receive a similar boost in detail, plus more unique objects, at a later date.

Ghostbusters can expect greater variety across the board as result of today's update, which also introduces four new ghosts - Onryo, The Twins, Obake, and Raiju (all of which will have an increased chance of spawning throughout Phasmophobia's Halloween event) - plus a new weather system, intended to add another layer of gameplay with each contract.

Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia developer Kinetic Games has pushed out a new update to celebrate the ghost investigation game's first anniversary.

The Anniversary Update - I see what you did with the name there - is out now and introduces a handful of tweaks and improvements, including a journal "overhaul" that permits you to cross off evidence, change your settings, and generally make it "easier to use and navigate".

You can also play offline singleplayer without forcing you to connect to the server, and will no longer get a pity payment of $10 when you fail a contract; now you'll "get the insurance depending on the chosen difficulty". My favourite change might be that failing will also reveal what kind of ghost was terrorising you now, too.

If all the current Black Friday deals already flooding the internet weren't enough, the Steam Autumn Sale is now here, with hundreds of deals on PC games and software.

This year the sale lasts until December 1st, 18:00PM GMT, and as usual the main Steam storefront has been redesigned to promote the new deals, with sections for genre, for major franchises, for users' wishlists and featured deals, among others. We've outlined some of the best offers we've seen here, and there's a good chance that there'll be other offers cropping up as we go through the week.

This also marks the start of nominations for this year's Steam Awards, the site-wide ceremony where users can nominate and vote for various games in various entries - game of the year, best VR game, soundtrack, story and so on. Nominations start now and voting will occur during the Winter sale later (presumably landing in the Christmas period).
