Unsent - slimewaregames

Over the past few months we have been hard at work developing more content for Unsent. Since we have changed a lot in the game since May, we decided it would be a good idea to release an updated demo that better reflects the final game that we intend to release.

Please enjoy the new features and join our discord if you want to be part of our community! https://discord.gg/uVhKn3ZS9M

Midnight Alert - JTech Studio

Greetings survivors,

We’re here today not with a gameplay patch, but with something just as meaningful: a change of identity — and a reaffirmation of purpose.

After years of haunting screens and stirring hearts with our first title, J-Tech Studios has been officially incorporated into Jazzoid Studios. This new name carries not only a vision for the future, but also a deep respect for the work that came before it.

You may have noticed new artwork, refreshed descriptions, and a few visual updates on the store page. But no, this isn’t the beginning of something entirely new — it’s the preservation of a legacy, carried forward under a new banner.

We know the game hasn’t received many updates lately, and for that, we’ve remained quiet. Life happens. Time passes. But the fire never fully went out.
This project has always lived in the shadows, and perhaps that’s where it belongs — but it still lives.

To everyone who stood by this nightmare — from the early days of Pesadelo: Início to now — thank you for carrying this world with you.

What’s changed:

  • J-Tech Studios has been fully incorporated into Jazzoid Studios

  • Updated store assets and descriptions to reflect the new identity

  • Minor polish across the page, with more consistency in tone and presentation

There are no promises here. Only the recognition that this story — and this world — are far from forgotten.

Also, as a great defender of "Stop Killing Games", this game despite of the low marketing and low sales, for those who ever bought, it won't be remove, in fact, it could receive a few updates in the future, who knows.

Keep your flashlight close.

Cyclopean: The Great Abyss - MKSchmidt
Brand New Lighting!

Based on player feedback, I have decided to overhaul the whole lighting system. The previous version just used fog to show darkness. But this meant that any distant lights would not be visible until you got pretty close to them. It was not realistic at all in this sense.

While the game never really set out to have realistic rendering, I felt being able to see far away lights in dungeons could add some interesting atmosphere to the game. So there have been a few, cool differences that have been introduced as a result, as well as what I would call disadvantages.

The first improvement is obviously, that you can see lit areas from far away. Another side effect of this is that in one level (shown above), you can see that there is an open sky, which was hidden by the fog previously.

Disadvantages

A disadvantage is that the lighting is based on each tile's position, so you can see a rather sharp distinction from one tile to the next. Another thing I see as a disadvantage is that the levels do not get completely dark as they did before. Here is a scene demonstrating this, where the player has no torch, nor any night vision, as they approach the entrance to the Crag.

I also don't quite like how the background color gets so much darker than it used to. I did not mind this in the optional, high contrast mode, but I feel like the main game should maintain the distinct monochrome style that I have in mind. I am still working on tweaking this a bit. It was easy to do with the fog effect, but it is a bit trickier to color the actual tiles in the exact shade I want. When I give them too much color they no longer appear dark, and you can see the whole dungeon, which is not what I want at all.

Another disadvantage is that I had to adjust the dungeons to allow for all this to work, so old saved games will not work properly with the new system. So I am releasing this under the "testing" branch until I am sure it will work well, and people are ready for this next phase.

What Say You?

So if you like this idea, or hate it, let me know in the comments.

To try it, go to "Cyclopean > Properties > Betas" and select "testing" from the drop down menu. Make sure you don't save over your current game if you want to play it again.

I have also fixed a few outstanding bugs in this version. Once I am 100% sure I like this, and I get it to look just right, I will make it the default. For any players who want to continue their current game, I will, as always, make the current version available as a legacy beta branch.

War Tortoise - Foursaken Media
  • Fixed an issue where parts of the ui would get cut off or hidden when anti-aliasing was enabled and resolution was anything other than the max setting
  • Fixed an issue where textures would load totally wrong when running in windowed mode
  • NOTE: the terrain still has a visual graphical glitch if you have shadows set to "off" or "low". To bypass the bug, change shadow setting to "medium" or above.
Jong Kyu Pon - Nineteen woods

Sisyphus Simulator - Sick Bastard Games

The date is almost here!

I am very new to game development, so there may be a lot of hiccups on release. Especially with me figuring out Steam documentation on achievements and cloud saving.

I will post a roadmap of planned updates and balancing/fixes closer to release. In the meantime, here's the release trailer to showcase all of the features included:

If you have any questions or are able to provide localization work, please reach out to me at sickbastardgames@gmail.com

Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far, and I welcome everyone new going forward!
