The marriage between action comics and fighting games is one that transcends mediums: an enthusiastic relationship based on love, mutual respect, and a shared passion for punching people in the face. Some licensed games, like Dragon Ball FighterZ, are played at a professional level in esport tournaments. Others, like My Hero: One’s Justice, are more simple and accessible. Some are team-based, while others are arena brawlers. All are generally good fun.

And yet, sometimes I think parser games would be better suited to adapt this genre to screen. (more…)

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, which launched two months ago, already has 25 pieces of DLC available on Steam, a number which is due to expand on December 5 when Winter Soldier, Black Widow and Venom join the roster of heroes and villains. Watch them batter a bunch of people in the new trailer below.

Marvel vs Capcom Infinite is a maddening game. At heart, it’s a solid addition to the classic Capcom tag-team fighting series. A festival of explosions, colours, superheroic excess and Capcom’s forgotten characters dusted off for a cameo. Unfortunately, it’s also a mess of questionable design decisions and bizarre corner-cutting, letting down an otherwise excellent core experience.

The latest of these questionable decisions is the choice to sell three characters featured in the main story of the game> as paid DLC shortly after release. This week on Tuesday, Black Panther, Monster Hunter and Sigma arrived for the price of 6.49/$8 each>, on top of the 40 you’ve already paid. Ouch.

The crossover biffing of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite [official site] will arrive on September 19th, Capcom announced today. The fighting game will throw more Marvel and Capcom characters together in 2v2 scraps. Capcom also confirmed a few more characters — Ultron, Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Rocket Raccoon, Chun-Li, Strider Hiryu, and Chris Redfield — and explained a little of the story. Marvel’s robotic villain Ultron is teaming up with Sigma out Mega Man X to robotify all that grubby organic life, which leads to fisticuffs.
