Control Craft 2

Control developer Remedy Entertainment has announced plans for two new titles in the series.

The first will be a multiplayer spin-off, currently titled Project Condor. The next will be "a bigger-budget Control game" which sounds further off.

Concept art for Condor shows a team of four players with a bagged-up enemy at their feet. Control franchise director Mikael Kasurinen said in a blog post that the image "tells pretty well what Condor is about".

Control is free on the Epic Games Store.

Remedy's supernatural third-person action adventure is free on Epic's store now until 4pm UK time on 17th June. Control is normally £24.99.

Donlan penned Eurogamer's Control review, saying "giddy action and astonishing art design combine in one of the great locations of modern video games". Well worth grabbing, then, if you don't have it already.

What a week for video game news! Join Eurogamer news editor Tom Phillips, reporter Emma Kent and me as we discuss Microsoft's dramatic U-turn on its controversial Xbox Live Gold subscription price-hike, PlayStation 5 scalpers... again, Cyberpunk 2077 Keanu Reeves sex mods, confirmation of Dragon Age 4's location, and rumblings of a new Knights of the Old Republic game.

There's more! This week we saw disgruntled Control fans call on Sony to issue refunds for the game's Ultimate Edition, which launches on PlayStation 5 the same day it's made free on PlayStation Plus. The question is, will Sony listen?

Owners of Control's Ultimate Edition have called for refunds on PlayStation 5, where the next-gen version of Remedy's stylish shooter will now launch as part of February's PS Plus line-up.

Some fans say they purchased the Ultimate Edition alongside their PS5 and have never downloaded or played Control on a PS4. The Ultimate Edition, as you may recall, is the recent version of Control which unlocks the shiny new next-gen edition on 2nd February.

Now these fans - who in some cases double-dipped on a second copy of the game to get its next-gen upgrade - have asked for their purchases to be refunded, since the first time they will get to play it on PS5 will be the same day it launches via PS Plus.

In case you've somehow missed it, there's been a lot of talk lately about the excellent value of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. And it's just got even better, as you can now pay a measly £1/$1 to try Microsoft's gaming subscription service on for three months.

Quick caveat from the off: this latest promotion is only open to new members. If you've even had a Game Pass Ultimate membership or been on a free trial in the past, you won't be able to take advantage. If not, though, it's an incredibly cheap way to get access to games on the entire range of Xbox consoles and PC.

Now's as good a time as any to give Game Pass Ultimate a go as it's just received its biggest haul of new games so far - mostly thanks to the recent inclusion of EA Play at no extra cost. That's added the likes of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, FIFA 20 and the entire Mass Effect series to the service. Bioware keeps teasing a new entry of the sci-fi RPG, so why not treat yourself to another playthrough?

Control's new Ultimate Edition requires you connect to the internet to play its single-player campaign - but only once, and only for the disc-based version of the game on Xbox.

Eurogamer understands this is because the disc does not actually contain all of the game's campaign data, the remainder of which is then downloaded. There's no suggestion the game needs to connect online for any other purpose.

The issue was highlighted over the weekend on Twitter by DoesItPlay, which stated it had seen reports players can progress as far as the game's opening maintenance elevator without the internet before being instructed to download the update.

Command & Conquer™ 3: Kane’s Wrath

Now that everyone else has had their turn to celebrate the season with cheap games, Humble has decided it's their time to have a go and see things out with their End of Summer Sale. I'll take anything that suggests we're nearer to the end of 2020 right now.

And what better distraction is there than more games? Especially if they remind us of simpler times. Enter the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection for just £5.93. For a game that launched back in June to be this heavily discounted by 67 per cent already is quite something.

This bundle of RTS classics features fully-remastered versions of both Command & Conquer and Red Alert (plus expansion packs) with 4K graphics, reworked music, upscaled FMVs, improved UI, modern online features and in-built mod support. Altogether, Digital Foundry called it one of the greatest remasters of all time, so definitely don't skip it at this price. As a heads up, this is an Origin key and not a Steam key.
