Today, my dear friends Ksu, Taras, and Ivan released their new game, a short retro first-person platformer about the last priest of desolate earth on his descent to the depths of hell - it's called Blessed Burden. It's inspired by Quake, Prince of Persia, and Skyrim dungeon design (I know that's an unexpected one, stay with me). This is a very unusual platformer game.

I could call it casual? Maybe. If you are not in a hurry, you can almost play it as a walking simulator, avoiding dozens of deadly traps while listening to the amazing soundtrack by Ivan Turmenko. If you're hungry for the dreadful ambiences and soundscapes of No One Lives Under The Lighthouse - Blessed Burden can fulfill your hunger if you care to listen (but for the real sound of dread you should most definitely wait for Zero Losses).

If you do hurry, you can try to complete the game in 8 minutes, like one speedrunner has already done. But probably you'll spend more time on your first go - as the game is full of huge swinging axes, saws, spikes, ingrained into the beautiful brutalist architecture which you won't be able to simply run by without dying taking a cool screenshot like you're a tourist or something ːsmileː

If you decide to check out the game, don't be scared of the character moving a bit slow - you'll need to complete a few levels, maybe collect some sacred relics from the temple to be able to level up bless your protagonist. Once you get some of them Bless Points, you'll be able to run and slide faster. If you're saint enough, maybe you'll even be able to afford a pair of wings... And after you've unlocked all the abilities, I would recommend replaying all of the levels and seeing how they feel now.

They have plans for updating the game with some extra modes later. I personally hope for a level editor, as 10 levels weren't enough for me. They were very aesthetically pleasing, though.

  • Fixed not being able to start a combat with a spell in the tutorial.

  • The Plague and Lightning Fang spells now correctly no longer highlight corpses in positions with connected targets.

  • The "reset story progress" button now correctly deletes your saved run as well.

  • Fixed not automatically opening the zone selection menu when returning to the title screen after a run win or lose, and after abandoning a run that's not saved yet.

Enemies now only spawn at night in the void to make it less annoying to do things like fishing

Moved slam effect upwards to prevent it clipping into the ground
Fixed a bug with summon and totem targeting

Added a parameter to data packet to transmit the status effect giver to prevent desync and other issues like kill credit

Hexcavator - Jolly Dumpling

Fixed some issues with Chording and Resolution settings, as well as the tutorial screen. Chording is now done just by left clicking, as it is in OG Minesweeper.

I've changed the activation zones slightly for hotbars to try to stop them getting in the way in some situations.

I'm still working on diagnosing some saving/loading issues as I'm having trouble replicating it myself. Will push a patch as soon as I identify and fix it.
