Apex Legends' 11th season gets underway next Tuesday, 2nd November, and ahead of its launch, developer Respawn has released a fresh gameplay trailer revealing, among other things, the free-to-play battle royale shooter's brand-new tropical island map, Storm Point.

Storm Point, a beautiful island paradise located on the planet Gaea, stretches from its tropical shoreline up to the peaks of its towering mountains, making for Apex Legends' biggest map yet - said to be around 15% larger than previous record holder World's Edge.

Respawn's trailer gives a pretty good look at both the new map and its various points of interest, but the latter are detailed more thoroughly in the developer's latest news post - outlining the likes of Apex Legends' new Gravity Cannons, which aid traversal by firing riders in a predetermined direction.

Apex Legends is getting in on the spooky action October inevitably brings with its special Halloween-themed Monsters Within limited-time event, starting next Tuesday, 12th October.

Monsters Within's most notable addition is Encore, a brand-new map for Arenas mode that whisks players off to Boreas, the home planet of recently introduced playable character Seer. This wide-open map is flanked by two high-ground power positions - the VIP Lounge and the Performance Stage - said to require strong environmental awareness, teamwork, and strategy if victory is to be secured.

As you'll immediately notice in the Monsters Within trailer below, the one thing Encore isn't is spooky, but things get a little more sinister starting on 26th October, when Apex Legends' Shadow Royale mode returns.

Apex Legends developer Respawn has backtracked on a definitive-sounding statement regarding the future of fan-favourite series Titanfall.

Earlier this week, Respawn's Jason Garza gave a refreshingly frank answer when asked by a fan about what was going on with Titanfall these days. In short: nothing much at the moment, as the studio was so busy.

But as coverage of his comments gathered steam, Respawn this morning issued a new statement via Twitter aimed at press coverage of the matter, deliberately muddying the waters.

Apex Legends lead game designer Daniel Klein has been fired from developer Respawn after offensive blog posts written by him were recently surfaced.

Klein has apologised "unreservedly" for the sexist and racist language in the posts, which he says were written in 2007.

"I was recently confronted with some awful statements made on a blog I wrote back in 2007," Klein wrote on Twitter a couple of weeks ago. "I take full ownership for the things I said, and I'm embarrassed, sad, and angry at my younger self for saying this stuff. I hope it is obvious that I don't believe these things anymore."

It seems we'll be waiting a little longer for cross-progression to finally be implemented in Apex Legends, as Respawn has confirmed the feature will not arrive until next year.

Director of communications Ryan K. Rigney explained in a Reddit AMA that the feature was "gnarly as hell in terms of being a problem to solve," citing technical and logistical difficulties as being two reasons for the long wait.

"It's not only that you have to solve the technical challenge of merging existing accounts, but there are also legal and contractual issues to navigate with purchasing on other platforms," he explained. "Different regions have different laws. It's a mess. But we're working on it, and we're committed to delivering it."

Apex Legends developer Respawn has confirmed new character Seer will be nerfed "in an upcoming patch".

Respawn's Travis Nordin told participants in a Reddit AMA that while the Legend had "brought a lot of new gameplay elements to the game", Seer's particular skillset is "a bit too strong".

As Emma explained earlier this week, complaints about how Seer's abilities give him too much of an advantage in combat were piling up on the Apex subreddit. Many of these complaints are centred on Seer's microdrones, which allows him to disrupt revives and shield battery regens.

A sweeping community investigation has claimed the recent Apex Legends "SaveTitanfall" hack was part of an elaborate scheme to revive a cancelled Titanfall spin-off.

On 4th July, Apex Legends on PC was hacked to display the URL "savetitanfall.com", with the subheader, "[Titanfall 1] is being attacked so is Apex."

Players also received an "important message" at the end of each match that requested they "visit and repost savetitanfall.com".

There's a new Apex Legend in town, but Seer might be bringing a little too much firepower to the table - as Apex Legends players are complaining that his abilities are too powerful. Some are even comparing his abilities to "wallhacks", and many are calling for the character to be nerfed.

Over on the Apex Legends subreddit, complaints are piling in about how Seer's abilities stack up to give him too much of an advantage in combat. Many of these complaints are centred on Seer's microdrones - and the fact they're seemingly the Swiss army knife of Legend abilities. Not only does the tactical ability do damage, it also reveals enemy locations (including health bars) and interrupts actions such as healing.

While Seer's tactical does take some time to travel, players have found that it has a surprisingly large hitbox, as you can see from the experiment below... and the poor soul hiding inside a building who got caught out by the ability. It's also a seemingly unstoppable force that can go through mountains.

We've already heard a little about new Apex Legend Seer's abilities, but some existing characters are also getting a rejig in upcoming season Emergence, with both Caustic and Fuse due to get some buffs.

As explained by Gamespot, Caustic's gas will no longer deal a flat five ticks of damage per second. Instead, it will increase in damage every other second: for instance, causing 5,5,6,6,7,7 points of damage, with no limit on how much it can increase. Balancing this out, however, the gas cloud created by Caustic's Nox Gas Grenade will disappear five seconds faster.

Fuse is getting some even more significant (and much-needed) improvements, with his Knuckle Cluster lasting twice as long, and his Motherlode ability now highlighting enemies. Any enemy caught in the blast will be highlighted, even if they are hidden behind a building or wall.

STAR WARS Jedi: Fallen Order™

Respawn sure seems to be busy right now - not only is it beavering away on Apex Legends (and reportedly a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order), but we've also heard news about a new IP - and it seems this one is going to be a single-player game.

A number of new job listings have been posted on Respawn's website, with creative director Mohammad Alavi describing the project as a "brand new Respawn single-player adventure". Details on the game remain light, but the postings do note that the project is "in its early stages", while the single-player title is apparently "a designer's dream playground with a freedom to innovate made possible by the unique universe it inhabits."

According to a tweet in April by Respawn developer Steven Kah Hien Wong, the team is building a new IP "from scratch". So before you start asking about Titanfall 3 again, it seems like this is something brand new.
