The VR + PC Edition of Stay Alive My Son is now available!

In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Fall of Phnom Penh — April 17th, the day Cambodia’s darkest chapter began — we are proud to announce the Bundle Release of Stay Alive My Son on Steam, featuring both the groundbreaking VR experience and the newly adapted PC version.

This isn’t just a bundle — it's a tribute, a remembrance, and a call to action.

Born from the powerful memoir Tu Vivras Mon Fils by Pin Yathay, Stay Alive My Son is an immersive, interactive narrative that lets you experience history through the eyes of a father searching for truth, for love, and for his son amid the horrors of the Cambodian genocide.

We originally built SAMS as a VR-first journey, designed to immerse audiences in a deeply emotional, sensory-rich experience. But after witnessing the profound impact it had — especially among young Cambodians stepping into their history for the first time — we knew it had to reach further.

So now, with this dual-edition bundle, we’re making sure more people — whether through VR or traditional PC gameplay — can walk alongside Yathay Pin, feel his pain, share his hope, and learn from his resilience.

As director Victoria Bousis said during her CIFF keynote:

“Can we truly heal what has never been fully shared or seen? Through this experience, we don’t just tell a story—we invite people to live it. History must be remembered, felt, and passed on. And when the headset comes off, there is a deeper call — not just to feel, but to act.”

ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE
Spanning over 45 years, Stay Alive My Son is more than a game — it’s a journey. As you step into the memories of Yathay Pin, a father separated from his family under the Khmer Rouge regime, every decision becomes a lifeline, every moment a window into love, loss, and survival.

In VR, you become one with the story — your hands become Yathay’s, and the world around you shifts with his memories.

On PC, you follow the same powerful path through interactive storytelling, now more accessible to classrooms, communities, and homes everywhere.

Both versions culminate in a breathtaking final journey at Angkor Wat — a place of light, closure, and remembrance.

LEGACY & IMPACT
Following its emotional reception at the Cambodia International Film Festival, Stay Alive My Son will be preserved as a permanent, free installation at the ECCC Resource Center in Phnom Penh — a gift to the people of Cambodia, and a call for global unity in the face of family separation and trauma.

Developed by a small, purpose-driven team at UME Studios, this project was carried by heart and mission. With VR headsets and laptops in hand, we screened the experience across 28 countries, sharing Yathay’s story with thousands — from technologists and NGOs to policymakers and survivors.
