Hello all, today I wanted to talk about the eventual demo, when it will be released, whats my checklist for it, and some other thoughts I had about getting you guys access to some sort of game builds sooner.
Demo Checklist
My checklist of things that need to be done before the Monsty Corp demo is as follows, - Finish the ENTIRE script for Chapters one and two - Create assets and change the level design for Chapter One, to give Monsty Corp a much more abandoned style, remember it's an abandoned science facility - Create basic layout concepts for Fictitious City, the home of Robin, Alex and Maria - Create the character switching mechanic - Finish the level design of Chapter One - A few other spoilery things
So, then what's done?
Well, none of that is done just yet, not even the character switching mechanic, unfortunately there's still a LOT to be done for the Chapter One story and any future development on Chapter One is relying on that. However I'll link to a public trello page here where you can see the progress of the Demo.
When will it be out?
I won't be giving an ETA at this time. I do have personal deadlines for this, but I won't be sharing any of those right now as I can't guarantee I'll meet them. Unfortunately I'm suffering some really intense writer's block and cannot get any more of the Chapter One story down. So unfortunately quite a large part of the story is on hold. Instead I'm focusing my time on the Prequels DLC, getting what's currently in the script, into the actual game, creating the parts of the Monsty Corp facility that this DLC will take place in, and then working on fleshing out the content.
What about the first build we can play then?
Well, there’s an idea I have. A massive part of the game development process is getting feedback on each and every feature, having every single part of a game, effectively scrutinized under a microscope for any bugs or issues.
So I had an idea, in order to give you guys access to a build of the game quicker, and get feedback on some cool features I’m working on, I thought I’d create a small subsection of the game, or create a new basic script, sort of like a tutorial, to allow you guys to help me test some game features. These would come with the hope that you’d offer feedback so I can improve these features as much as possible. I believe the best people to give me an idea of what may be wrong with the game, and what I can do to improve the game is the people who’ll actually play it.
This feature demo will be available soon, we’re just putting some finishing touches on some features we’d like you to test and will make a new announcement when that’s done!
---------------------------------- Anyway, that's it, goodbye, you can go now! Remember that you can apply for the Private Alpha here

Amadeus: A Riddle for Thee ~ Episode 1 ~ Waltz - Ace Detective
Changes, updates, and progress from this month:
MUSIC: wrote almost all remaining music for Episode 1, and recorded some live parts for certain tracks
MYSTERY: created a “glossary” menu in the backlog notebook for reference (including things like the terms of the Witch’s deal, etc)
SAVE/LOAD: system can now handle loading from multiple “progression points” within each scene
AUDIO IMPLEMENTATION: code for seamless audio looping (with reverb tail) exists now and works
TEXT SYSTEM: scrolling text can now support rich text codes, including font style changes mid-text
POINT-AND-CLICK SYSTEM: there is now a visual change to the background image when hovering over an interactible object
UI DESIGN: started reformatting main menu - still in progress
The longer-version of this development log can be read on itch.io here - it is a lot more personal than usual, and is quite long. It has some teaser photos of the new mechanics though!
Overall, health issues prevented me from getting as much done as I hoped to this month, but I'm still quite excited about what I did accomplish. More importantly, I'm motivated about working on the rest.
A brief aside - you have likely heard the news that Steam now allows Demos to be published as separate game pages from their full games, that can be reviewed! I have currently not enabled Amadeus for this functionality because the current demo no longer reflects the state of the game as it will be on release, since I've changed and added so much. I'm considering it for when I release an updated demo around release time. If and when that happens, you'll be the first to know!
That about wraps it up for this month. Because of aforementioned health issues, there is a chance the tentative release month of October is now an overly optimistic estimate. I'll confirm/deny when I'm certain; for now, the goal is to keep focusing on development. Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for next month's updates!
