Westview Academy - Season 1 - takoyuhgames

Hey, y'all!
Pretty uneventful week if I'm being completely honest. Kinda just been going through the motions hoping to wrap this shit up soon. Every time I think I'm getting closer to the end, my dumb ass goes "Hey! It would be hella funny to write and render this one bit only like 3 people will laugh at!".

The numbers are now sitting at 1,703 renders and 33 animations.

Might work on some animations this week, so expect the number to go up next week.

That's about it for this week. Stay safe.

Company of Heroes 3 - John_RE

This month marks the 1st anniversary for Company of Heroes 3 on PC, and we plan to celebrate in style! Today we break down everything happening in the weeks ahead to mark the occasion.

PC Update

Our Year-1 Anniversary Update (1.5.0) is scheduled to be released on Tuesday, February 27th at 10am Pacific Time. It wouldn’t be an anniversary if we didn’t look back on the franchise’s history, and in that spirit, we have reimagined and updated several classic Company of Heroes maps from both Company of Heroes 1 and 2. We’ll share more details on which five classic maps (plus two co-op variants!) you can look forward to very soon. These will also include the first two community-made maps in the official map pool!

Need a glow up for your Player Profile? This update will introduce new Profile Customization which will allow players to personalize their profile appearance and stand out from others before heading into combat.

The Year-1 Anniversary update will also include multiplayer balance adjustments, some slight changes to a few existing Battlegroups, plus, an experimental call-in change which we’ll keep secret until our Balance Livestream (details below).

You can learn more in the coming days as we’ll be sharing several sneak peeks from the update. Be sure to keep an eye on our social channels!

Livestreams

As with all our updates, we will be hosting a deep-dive overview of all the changes and new content players can expect with our Development team. We’ll follow this up with a granular discussion with the Balance team as we review the patch notes the morning of the update. Mark your calendars and catch it all on our official Twitch page!

Console Update

We promised a Spring update for our Console Edition players and we’re happy to announce that you can expect it to arrive by the end of March. This update will bring the Console Edition in-line with our Steel Shepherd update on PC.

Community

If we’re celebrating an anniversary, we need to get our players involved!

Our team is excited to announce a new Community Social Event – what we’re calling Frontline Mobilization. We’re challenging players to deploy 12-million units in Multiplayer or Singleplayer between February 27th and March 5th. If the community comes together to accomplish this goal, we’ll be unlocking special profile customization options for ALL players. This will be the first time we’re trying a social challenge like this, so show us what you got!

Also, for one week after the release of the Year-1 Anniversary update, players can complete three special Anniversary Challenges in-game. These will be in addition to the regular daily and weekly Challenges, but each will be worth a whopping 800 Merit each, for a total of 2,400 extra Merit to be earned during COH3's Year-1 Anniversary!

  • Anniversary Competitor: Complete 5 Multiplayer or Custom matches on any of the new maps
  • Anniversary Campaigner: Complete 5 Italian Campaign missions
  • Anniversary Demolitionist: Destroy 50 vehicles in Single Player or Multiplayer
Coinciding with this month’s update, we’ll be hosting several Twitch Takeovers with some of your favorite members of our official Creator Squad. You can catch it all on our official Twitch channel starting on February 29th. Keep an eye out for channel takeovers by:

Don’t miss the community-led map making contest being organized by GBPirate. The CoH Worldbuilders 2024 Map Making Competition is well underway and features 7 player submitted maps that can be tested right now by all players on the Steam Workshop. The winners of the competition will be crowned in March, so for more details you can check out GBPirate’s YouTube channel or find the maps on the {LINK REMOVED}.

The Company of Heroes 3 Resurgence Cup organized by AE kicks into high gear starting March 2nd. This 1v1 tournament with a $4,000 prize pool will feature an innovative 4v4 and 2v2 losers' bracket, where players can make a resurgence back to the finals! Catch all the action on AE’s Twitch and YouTube, with the finals taking place on March 10th.

Finally, we’ll also be debuting a special video segment from AE and Tightrope during our February 22nd livestream. You won’t want to miss it.

Ants Took My Eyeball - Riuku
Hey everyone! We have a few exciting things to share with all of you.

First of all, the full release of Ants Took My Eyeball is scheduled to be in April 2024! After several years of development and now two demos, we're beyond excited to finally announce the schedule of the full release of the game.

Next, we've just released a new free demo that's available on Steam right now. In the new demo you'll be able to play through the first two levels and the first boss, find plenty of items, weapons and secret locations and unlock permanent upgrades. If you played the previous demo, you'll still have lots of new things to discover in this fresh revised version of the demo that more closely represents the game in its current state.

And lastly, we've just launched our Discord server! Join us to chat, keep up with the news and maybe give feedback on the demo.

Hey everyone!

It's been about three months since I started working on the upcoming major update, and while I'm still far from done, there's a lot of progress.

I have reimplemented most of the basic needs like Hunger, Sleep, Eating, Hygiene, Fun, Electricity (for bots) and a better half of the AI behaviors for tasks like Construction, Hauling, Refilling, Repairing, Demolition, Moving, etc. And the most important feature of the game - cats riding cleaning bots - is already there!

https://twitter.com/dev_spajus/status/1754883175384252852

To get a feel for the scope of this rewrite, here's how much the code has changed:

git diff --ignore-all-space --shortstat master -- "*.cs" "*.json" 2344 files changed, 51605 insertions(+), 62392 deletions(-)

For perspective, this is how big the whole project is:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Language files blank comment code ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- C# 2066 27122 18418 272135 JSON 1950 701 0 64152 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUM: 4016 27823 18418 336287 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The impact of this update will be far greater than just AI and beings. Since I'm touching so many parts, I am taking a critical look at every mechanic I touch, and I'm axing things that are confusing and aren't fun. For example, the controversial "Device Wear" is completely removed.

On the technical side of things, I had a chance to rewrite some core parts of the framework that runs the whole simulation. This yielded significant performance boost at high clock speeds, the simulation is now able to run at a mind blowing rate that was never possible before. 10x speed will be truly 10x for everyone, and in my tests I can simulate a day of game time in just a couple of seconds.

Talking about tests, I'm rewriting them all too. Hundreds of tests were obsolete due to the changes, so I took the liberty to rethink the test architecture completely, focusing on their stability and speed. If you're interested to learn more about how automated tests work in Stardeus, I have a video about it here: https://youtu.be/043EY6H5424

The current focus of development is on body parts and their installation / removal / harvesting, also damage, wounds, healing and various conditions. That involves adding new devices, tons of various body parts, defining the abilities and status effects those parts provide, and figuring out how to tie it all together.

While there's certainly some complexity involved, I love how flexible things are getting due to the new mechanics. Here's an example:

https://twitter.com/dev_spajus/status/1755632007177003049

There's a bit of bad news too. I won't be able to keep my promise of old saves always working for this update. The game has changed too drastically, and trying to make the code backwards compatible with old saves would complicate the development and delay the release of this update by a few months, so I made a choice to break the save file compatibility. This also allows me to clean up some hairy parts of the old code that I had to keep just for ancient save files to work.

There will be a transition period for testing the new update, which should give some time for mods to catch up, and you will have plenty of time to finish your current run.

As of when the new update will be ready, I can't predict that yet, all I can say is that the development pace is increasing, as I'm learning how to use the new AI efficiently, and more and more parts are coming together. I'm doing my best to get it done as soon as I can!

That's it for now, see you next month!
