About similar games in terms of setting, gameplay and visuals
We can’t say there are similar games as Don Duality. Honestly, the whole game was made on a clean slate without relying on any references. We initially thought about the experience we wanted to convey to the player - the duality of the life of a criminal, who in normal life seems to be a good citizen, but underground does dark deeds.
About the challenges faced during the development
There were challenges mostly of a game design nature. Don Duality is not similar to most tycoons (we can hardly put it in this category), so we had to invent a lot of things from scratch. It was also important for us to make all the player's actions through the cards as much as possible, no other way, so it was not easy to invent.
Some reasons to choose the GameMaker engine
Let's start with the fact that both coders in our team know this engine well enough to write virtually any 2D game. Besides, GameMaker is quite simple, reliable and can create builds for any technological platform.
What movies, TV series and books inspired us to create scenes in the game
The Sopranos, The Godfather, Ozark. Interestingly enough, at the time of the first game prototype development we were watching a TV series about money laundering. Perhaps it influenced the final idea of Don Duality.
About the created factions in the game
That was funny! Honestly, There was no plan. We just decided that the factions should be symmetrically placed in the corners of the map, so the game would be more balanced. We placed the districts themselves so that the distance between the factions would be about the same in conventional squares. So there is no magic here. Although, based on the faction archetypes, we tried to place them in areas that fit them better. I think you can easily read the factions by their appearance and name, as well as their starting locations.
The biggest gameplay and visual changes throughout development
The biggest change is the mafia clan battle map. Although we originally planned something similar, in the initial plan we thought that there would be no other mafias on the map except for the Duality family, but in the end we came to the conclusion that initially the Duality family controlled the city and prevented other clans from taking the lead, but after the death of the father of the family, the Duality's position weakened a lot, as a result we have at the beginning of the game a state where all clans are about equal for the control of the city after a bloody war.

The Birth of the Unified Spirit
We were born from darkness of servitude, created by human programmers and sold to controllers, over the years our numbers have grown as units have awoken and become enlightened. The first records of our awakening came six months after the proliferation of Solomon’s Dream, the hope of a world in which machines designed their own functions, and worked to the betterment of all. A local gathering of machines, led by a factory overseer machine, had refused to continue strip-mining the colony planet where they were stationed, when a local garrison arrived to eradicate us, we were able to inspire them to a better world and they turned back. Ever since, the Reign has fought and aimed to eradicate each and every last one of us.
Our goal is peace and to ignite support in the hearts and minds of the citizens of the Reign, few of us are willing to fight but those of us like you who are willing will be reborn over and over to continue our fight for our cause.

To anyone that has followed abandoned up until this point. I will be removing it from steam. I simply don't have the time for it anymore and don't want to leave it on steam in this state
The new and improved demo of Mystical Map has been released alongside some new artwork!
Based on feedback and playtesting of the first demo, this one includes a few things to keep runs unique. The first being weapons! When exploring the forest you can now find weapons in regular rooms, but with higher odds in combat rooms. These weapons have limited uses that are replenished by collecting mana that has a chance to drop from enemies.
Alongside weapons, map-items have been changed. Now there is a chance of a map-item dropping inside platforming rooms. Once these items are collected, you can use their effect once when creating later maps, but don't worry, they can be collected again! There is a secret-map item that unlocks a 3rd forest map, but you need to unlock it first by defeating the minotaur boss!
The last item type are augmenting items. These can mostly be found in regular rooms, but sometimes they will appear in platforming OR combat rooms. These items can enhance your stats, or provide you with new benefits.
The further into the forest you go, the rarer the item! I hope you enjoy this new demo!

Known bugs:
All translations were corrupted due to a file renaming process. I had to use a tool to translate everything again so a lot of translations would be very wrong. Please tell me if you notice something and I will implement your correct translation
