this update literally changes the world. Before rocks and islands would have no real logical relation to the shallow area's . Now most rocks and islands are in a shallow area making the world feel like it makes a bit more sense.
this looks better but also allows for a radical upgrade to the pathfinding as there are no rocks or obstacles in the deep water the AI can use the shallows 'map' for it's pathfinding instead of checking the real world obstacles.
so gone is the hickup when building a connecting harbor or the issues with captains sailing their ships thru rocks.
ooh I also pimped the watershader to be a bit more subtle and less repetitive.
Enjoy, this is a reasonably big update so stuff will break! let me know if it does
As promised, here's a rough roadmap for what I've got planned for the next 3 months. I've decided to post this for three reasons:
I'm keen to hear what you'd like brought forward, pushed back, added, or removed.
I've been so busy in the bug report section that I haven't really given feature requests the attention they deserve yet.
I have a one-week break scheduled from the 20th for some family time, and would hate to come back to a thousand "The game has been abandoned" reviews :)
So to the meat of it:
I've posted this as a small event rather than anything larger so it's only visible to people who stop by the hub to see these things because it has caveats.
It's reasonably ambitious, so I'll be updating progress to see If I'm on track or behind. I might not manage it all in 3 months.
It depends on the game maintaining viable sales and rating, for obvious reasons. I am shamelessly addicted to eating food and sleeping indoors, so working on something that produces no return is non-viable.
I can't re-arrange the manual, settings, or quest system as the majority of the constructive refund comments I get are around lack of on-boarding.
That said, I think this captures the majority of complaints and what people have asked for.
Your Feedback Please
At present the new crafting step will be pouring molten crystal into carved runes to unlock special attacks on weapons. Armor making has been suggested, which to me sounds like a whole expansion, but I could do something simple in that regard. People have also asked to be their own cutlers, which is doable, but adds not much new to the overall game in my view. I'm open to suggestions.
The final point I'd like to hear your feedback on is whether I should keep the mine cart or just get rid of it completely.
I'm already planning to have a lantern and the mine pick work similar to the hammer and tongs - whenever you're underground you'd just draw your mining tools instead. I could simply remove the inventory weight limit and do away with the cart altogether. Maybe have the quartermaster sell a mining cap with light as well.
Thanks again to everyone playing the game, and especially to those who really go above and beyond in tracking down the issues and letting me know. Launching this game has been a crazy ride to this point, and you guys make it so much more worthwhile.
Greetings, This is MIR4. We’re excited to share the details of the update scheduled for Tuesday, July 11th, 2023.

Update #321 continues the Summer Sale 50% savings and brings two new powerful rank 15 Talents to core jobs on your ship. Along with the recent Talent upgrades, we've upgraded the AI's weighting and decision tables when planning its own Talent strategy for ship captain and officers. We've also highlighted a few awesome mods from the workshop with Update #321 and fixed all reported typos and crashes.
A big thanks goes out to the community who helps us keep improving Star Traders: Frontiers. If you like the pace of free updates, be sure to drop a review!
Want more Trese Brothers sci-fi?
We always love seeing how many of you have pieced together the lore of Star Traders from the stories within, and enjoy the flavor of this universe your Captain is a part of. In our next game, we’re telling a very different sci-fi story but with the same depth we bring to all our worlds. Check out the dark-future feel of our upcoming cyberpunk heist RPG, and wishlist it today! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1021210/Cyber_Knights_Flashpoint/
New Rank 15 Talents
With Update #321, we've added to new rank 15 Talents to round out the Pilot and Soldier Jobs. The new Soldier rank 15 Talent "Still Standing" is a powerful turtle buff, capable of giving a Soldier a last-stand chance against deadly enemies. Granting massive defensive bonuses in trade for the majority of their Turn's Initiative, Last Standing can be used to make Soldier a defensive bulwark or to desperately try to hold until a Combat Medic can apply healing.
Pilot's rank 15 Talent "Engage Fighters" trades accuracy and Damage against capital ship in order to significantly buff both offensive and defensive capabilities against fighters. If you're facing an overwhelming Jyeeta swarm or just pesky boarding shuttles you can't allow to close, Engage Fighters may be able to give you a quick turn-around to gun down the incoming. Engage Fighters obviously works best when paired with weapons ready for the job, like Autocannons.
Updated Enemy Officer Talent Selection
As more and more Talents and strategies are added to the game the enemy ship and crew builder has a evolving task of trying to pick the best Talent set for its captain and officers. We've updated the rules and weights to pick Talents in order to take into account some of the new Talents as well as adjusting meta conditions. In addition to being more interested in picking up recently added Talents, the AI has 3 new options to try to for different Talent strategies which we believe can lead to more dynamic ship enemies - both in ship combat and if you attempt to board.
Workshop Highlight
We're always very pleased to see how the Steam Workshop -- which was a very late addition!! -- for Star Traders: Frontiers has continued to grow and how many players are using and trying out the variety of mods available. We wanted to take a minute in this Steam Summer Sale update to highlight a few!
If you're looking for more face variety, the Playable Contacts Head Pack brings 24 of the Contact heads into the game as playable heads, letting you pick from some of the coolest and favorite Contact heads for your captain, crew and officers. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2936075922&searchtext=
The most popular mod, @davea's No More Mass Reducers component adjusts how Mass is calculated in the game to remove it as a consideration when designing ships, as well as all titular Mass Reducer components from the starports. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2492139496

v3.3.49 - 7/10/2023
- New Rank 15 Pilot Talent: Engage Fighters - New Rank 15 Soldier Talent: Still Standing - Improve Enemy Officer & Captain Talent Selection Logic - Fixed reports typos and crashes
New game features: - Added ability to train employees to help them grow skills, particularly at lower levels. -- This should make it easy to train employees up to operate a transform-o-bile without having to change their schedule. -- Training has an up-front cost based on the duration of training and the skill or skills being trained. -- Training can last 1 to 5 days. When 3 days or fewer, the employee will then take a day off at the completion of their training, or 2 days if they trained for more. -- Training can be either for a specific skill, or generalist training which teaches all skills at once. -- Employees with higher morale learn faster in training, and employees with low morale learn more slowly. -- The higher level an employee is in a skill they are training, the less effective training will be. Above level 6, it may be better simply have the employee work as normal. -- Each day spent in training drops that employee's morale by .1 . - Added an end of day transition scene that shows the clinic name, address, and artwork.
Balancing/Tweaks: - Employee skill gain rate is now clamped between .25 and 2.0 the normal rate, meaning an employee with maxed out morale of 5 now only gains 2x instead of 5x. - Client application rate bonuses and penalties are now totaled together first, then multiplied against the base generation rate. Previously the bonus from employees and advertisement were added, then multiplied by the passive effect bonus, leading to confusing numbers on the client application panel. -- In practical concerns, this means passive effects have less influence over client application rate when bonuses from employees and advertisements are also present.
New Random/generated clients: - Wife's arm removal and breast enlargement for a party by Naya Nyxx https://twitter.com/nayanyxx - Girl into beach ball summer seasonal client - Married couple into pigeons summer seasonal client - Woman into anthro clownfish person summer seasonal client
New story clients: - The Undercroft of Desire - VII: a pair of male debtors into ponygirls to serve as living furniture - Lady V - VI: a purse-snatcher transformed into a womens' handbag as replacement
Updated random clients: - Alternate request for boutique owner into mannequin now requires and generates infamy.
New research subjects: - Jason Miller and Remi Fulton transforming into a two-headed oni. Fulfills Growth, Corruption and Merging research.
New transform-o-bile missions: - Billionaire who wants all of his servants transformed into busty female French maids
New artwork: - Chubby otter woman artwork for Heraclitus' Parable story parts I-III. Artwork drawn by AcuteGabby. - Bugged Out - I hornet-woman hybrid. Artwork drawn by LadyCleopatra. - Added Winter seasonal variants for the clinic location artwork for 5 of 6 locations. Artwork drawn by Iridius ( https://www.deviantart.com/iridiusthestygian ).
Bugfixes: - Fix for the story client A Taste of Femininity III being a complete duplicate of A Taste of Femininity III - Fixed exploit of being able to spam-click the Lock X and Lock Y buttons in the transformation minigame when Lock On Key Down is toggled on. - Minor bugfix for random event notification initially displaying when starting or loading a game even when the event count was 0 and should have been hidden. - Bugfix for random/generated employee-related clients not being processed by employee delegation when enabled - Bugfix for game becoming unpaused when closing escape menu despite the fact it should stay paused, such as when a client application is being read - Description of passive effects corrected to read "client application rate" instead of "mission application rate" - Description of passive effects corrected to read "client payment rate" instead of "mission payment rate"
Other/Misc: - "Transformation Chamber [name] has been fixed" changed to "Transformation Chamber [name] is available" as there are various reasons why it may be unavailable, ie being used in the doomsayer random event - Transformation duration passive effect should now display as red instead of green as taking more time to transform is generally an undesirable effect. - Manage Employee now disables the Transform! button at the bottom while the employee is operating a transform-o-bile. - Multiple spelling corrections pointed out by Discord member Stitch-Nose - The predicted client payment now factors in passive effects that influence the payment amount, ie ten percent off coupons - Added a text notice on the inventory side panel that indicates how many crystals have been ordered but not yet delivered.
[Edit: accidentally introduced a bug in the tutorial yesterday; this latest update fixes it]
Hey all,
One of you told me the game wasn't working on Linux, and I discovered I needed to upload a separate Linux build.
This update sets the new Linux build live. If you had downloaded the Windows version and were running in compatibility mode, you'll need to uninstall it and reinstall in order to get the new Linux version.
If you were running in compatibility mode and don't want to give up your saved stats, you can continue to do so, just keeping in mind that it's more likely to crash, especially when the zombies are released and the video plays, and the video will just be an error placeholder.
Thank you all so much for continuing to help me make this the best game possible!
