Galactic Civilizations IV - [SD] redskittlesonly
The Generative AI feature of Galactic Civilizations IV seems to be the breakout feature so far.

To recap: When a player wants to create a custom civilization, they can choose to enter in a short description and then press “Generate”.

There are two parts of this.

The first part uses OpenAI’s ChatGPT which generates the text and code for describing the civilization as well as quests in the game.

The second part uses AI to figure out what key words to look for and then see what already existing AI generated images exist for this. Since these images are trained solely off of Stardock’s own considerable library of art, it isn’t infinite. If the AI determines the match quality is poor, it will then queue it up for generation later while sending the best results it has back.

Stardock’s Tachyon backend for this only gets the text entered and works with that. So for example, let’s say the player enters in “A civilization made up of beautiful amazon women” (one of the most common entries apparently it just looks at the text and the final result would be something like this:




And then the images it matches with. It sends 9 at a time. 3 are the best it can find. 3 are a bit looser and 3 are totally random.




So what are the results we get?

Custom Citizens
Now, what the AI doesn’t currently do is pick your citizens for you.



You would need a couple dozen images for citizens to work, otherwise, there’d be excessive repetition of the same face in game. So obviously it’s not currently possible to have dozens of citizens for each species as the generation time would go off the charts.

However, what we can do is start looking at the broader categories. While there are infinite possibilities when it comes to species, the number of general categories (human, robot, cat people, insect people, rocks, etc.) is quite finite and thus takes a massive issue and makes it much more manageable.

The top 10
You might be wondering, what are the top 10 most popular alien choices people put in? Wonder no longer, here they are:

Now, if we get rid of the duplicate meanings it goes more like this:


That’s how the top 10 are distributed. People like women and cats. Which makes it unsurprising that the 11th entry was catgirls.
Terminus: Zombie Survivors - Ingeon Games
  • Fixed a bug where zombies would ignore some furniture and generators when chasing the player.
  • Fixed an issue where the option to drink alcohol wasn't displayed in the search results popup.
  • Fixed an issue where the game would freeze when emptying the alcohol bottle from the search results popup.
  • Made it possible to search corpses without contracting diseases by wearing gloves.

Goblin Stone - CosmicRaccoon
Dear Gobbos

We’ve just made some improvements to our latest Goblin Stone Demo, available on Steam until June 8th! A big thank you to all the Goblins that reached out to us with feedback and love, helping us refine this new demo.

You can find below a summary of all the improvements that were made:
  • Enabled the spacebar to be used to select confirmation prompts.
  • Fixed an issue where multiple character icons could be displayed in the same location on the Time Bar.
  • Fixed an issue where some textures were missing from the Merchant.
  • Fixed an issue where players could proceed with a Smithy upgrade after moving a weapon from the Smithy slot, back into their inventory.
  • Fixed an issue where the user could duplicate items by pressing the spacebar whilst the 'Split' prompt was open in the inventory.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the user from reverting to their initial resolution setting, after changing the resolution and then setting the Window Mode to Full Screen.
  • Fixed an issue where the character information panel in the bottom right corner during combat showed the wrong character name after repeatedly moving the cursor over other characters in the battle.
  • Fixed an issue where the camera did not transition into gameplay smoothly when resuming gameplay after defeating one of the Armored Trio and quitting to the main menu.
  • Fixed an issue where weapon icons are missing from the HUD for the tutorial characters.
  • Fixed an issue where the 'Need additional gold to trade' message within the Merchant could not be closed with the ESC button.

We’re so thrilled to see that so many of you have taken the fight against the evil armored trio in our new Steam Demo. One can only hope that they will never underestimate Goblins again…

Hey everyone!

I hope you're all doing great! It's time for our monthly update on the progress of INSPIRE, and I'm really excited to share what I've been working on.

- Levelgeneration & leveldesign Stormfall & Arctic Ridge

Over the past month, I've been focusing on two key areas: Stormfall and Arctic Ridge. I'm happy to say that I've completed the level generation and design for these locations, and they're looking pretty awesome! You'll encounter enemies, encounter fascinating animals, find valuable loot, and stumble upon hidden secrets as you explore these levels. I'm really proud of how they've turned out.

- Treasure Hunting

One of the new features I've added is Treasure Hunting. I wanted to give players a sense of adventure and the thrill of discovery, so now you can embark on quests to find hidden treasures. And hey, if you manage to uncover some treasure, you can sell it to vendors in Realle. Just watch out for those pesky aliens who might be guarding the loot!

- Explodables

Inspiration can come from unexpected places, and while playing God of War Ragnarok, I had a blast tricking enemies into explosive barrels. So, I've introduced a similar system in INSPIRE. You'll have different types of damage at your disposal, like lightning, fire, explosion, and poison. It adds a new layer of strategy and excitement to the gameplay.

- Seasonal Content

Seasons in the game have taken on a whole new meaning. They're not just there for aesthetics; they now have their own unique events. You'll notice changes in the environment, like certain plants blooming only in spring or some animals going into hibernation during winter. It adds a realistic touch and makes the world feel alive.

Firstly, we want to thank everyone who picked up the game last week, the response has been AMAZING and team Miasma are really feeling the love <3 - thank you.

We’ve seen a small number of players across report that they’re receiving crashes and some bugs, don’t worry we’re on it!  

From today, you’ll begin to see updates rolling across steam to ensure that your experience is the best it can be.  

PC players will receive the first of our balancing fixes. Including reductions of damage from certain enemies and a shift in the Narrative mode’s difficulty.

Layers of Fear - Saucerhead
The game holds a few surprises even for seasoned players familiar with the Layers of Fear series.

First of all, the Lantern mechanic - lighting up rooms and warding off sinister powers - is already well known to you and discussed in earlier news, providing a fresh experience to the original games

However, that's not all, as the changes go deeper. The layout of certain rooms has been altered to increase tension and better emphasize the story of the characters. Additionally, the set of riddles has been updated with new ones, and some of the old ones have been modified to keep things fresh and engaging.

More Immersion 
The way exploration is done in the game has been changed. Some of the notes and letters that were present before now have accompanying soundtracks. Additionally, there are now fewer possible hiding spots to investigate, and furniture that may contain items is more distinguishable from furniture that is unlikely to hold anything valuable.

Whether you're a long-time fan of the series or just delving in, get ready to be absorbed into a world of fear and mystery.

Attention, General!

It’s time for a meeting at headquarters! Old strategies will have to be reviewed, as we released a set of balance changes with today’s update. These changes will only apply to newly created games.

Battleships, Railroad Guns, Infantry, Paratroopers, Motorized Infantry as well as Light and Heavy Tanks all have received buffs to make them more competitive with other units in their class. We also made Rockets, Flying Bombs and Nuclear Weapons hit harder against all targets by unifying their damage dealt to ground units and buildings.
These are only the highlights of this balance pass, please check out the detailed Release Notes for the complete list of changes made.

Finally, it wouldn’t be a complete update without bug fixes. Units with partial stealth, such as Militia, will no longer be invisible when entering hostile territory on terrain that doesn’t provide them stealth benefits. And ranged units with an “Aggressive” fire control setting will now finish upgrades in progress, before attacking enemies in range.
