Our beloved Super Adventure Festival has begun in Rata Sum! Everyone is welcome to join this fun adventure in a virtual world designed by Moto. This yearly festival is now live and will be available until April 18. You can check out all the details in the full release notes on our official forums.

Super Adventure Festival is accessible to players of any level. Even if you're brand new to the game, you can easily take part in all the activities! Read on for a quick rundown of the activities you can participate in during this festival and the rewards you can earn!

Where to Go

The Super Adventure Festival is located in Rata Sum. Check your in-game mail for an Invitation to the Super Adventure Festival and double-click the item to teleport instantly to the Super Adventure Box Hub. You can also travel to the Magustan Court Waypoint, which is conveniently located right next to the Super Adventure Box in Creator's Commons.

What to Do

When you enter the Super Adventure Box, you will have a different skill set. The new skill bar will help you navigate this different game mode. While you're inside the box, you won't take damage from falling, and you can't use gliders or mounts. But you'll find that you're much bouncier than you usually are!

There are two worlds you can trek through, and two alternate gameplay modes—Exploration Mode and Tribulation Mode—in addition to Normal Mode. If you like a laid-back adventure, you can pick Exploration Mode, which will give you some assistance traversing jumping puzzles. Normal Mode is perfect for people needing a little edge with their fun—unless you love a punishing challenge. For that, choose Tribulation Mode...at your peril.

The journey begins in World 1. You are sent on a heroic path to save Princess Miya. Your starting weapon is a stick, but you'll be able to buy other combat options and tools from friendly shopkeepers found in the worlds you're exploring. Make sure to keep an eye out for little wooden doors!

When you obtain new weapons from merchants inside the Super Adventure Box, they'll give you new ways to destroy enemies and objects. You can even use bombs to find hidden rooms packed with baubles.

Bounce your way into a sunny glade, and don't forget to fell every enemy on your way! You'll need all the baubles you can get your hands on. Every time you get hit by an enemy you will lose a portion of your hearts, so be sure to dodge. When your hearts are empty, you'll lose one of your lives. As long as you have lives left, you'll revive at the last checkpoint you reached.

If by chance you have no lives left, worry not; just purchase a Continue Coin from Moto. Just don't mind the lava.

Rewards

Trade 250 baubles to the Super Adventure Box Trader located next to Moto to obtain the festival currency, Bauble Bubbles! Weapons, armor, utility items, minatures, and many more things are available in exchange for Bauble Bubbles; talk to the trader NPCs just outside the Super Adventure Box or in the Hub.

There are plenty of new rewards to earn this year. Add a mace, rifle, and dagger to your collection of Retro-Forged weapons and a Mini Adventure Boxer and Mini Blue Bauble to your menagerie of miniatures. Craft new guild hall items to create your own Super Adventure world!

Complete the (Annual) Super Adventure Box Nostalgia achievement to earn classy Generation One weapon skins and Powered Gloves. You can find them in the Achievement tab of the Hero panel under Festivals.

Test Zone

This year, Moto is inviting heroes to the Test Zone,* a new area he's working on! The choya miners are still carving it out, so it's not completely finished—but Moto will welcome your help testing the area that is available! To visit the Test Zone, pick up the note on the door of the World 3 House in the Hub and follow the instructions. Have fun!

*The Test Zone is presented as is and should not be viewed as World 3 confirmed, either express or implied. Moto, Lord Vanquish, and other residents of the Super Adventure Box will not be held liable for injuries sustained in the Super Adventure Box. Baubles not intended for human (or charr, asura, norn, or sylvari) consumption.

Terra Nil - hyphenza

Terra Nil is now available now!
Terra Nil is a game about transforming barren lifeless landscapes into thriving, vibrant ecosystems. Turn dead soil into fertile grassland, clean polluted oceans, plant sprawling forests, and create the ideal habitat for animals to call home. Then recycle your buildings and leave no trace that you were ever there.

Terra Nil's Real World Impact

From the very beginning of development, we've wanted Terra Nil to have a real-world impact. We will donate 8% of our profits from sales of Terra Nil on Steam to the Endangered Wildlife Trust in support of their efforts to preserve and restore ecosystems.

We felt that the Endangered Wildlife Trust were the perfect organization to contribute to because they work in a plethora of conservation disciplines in our home of South Africa. We are working with them to produce a short film that will show how Terra Nil connects to real-world ecological efforts.

Growing a Real Forest

In celebration of Terra Nil’s launch on March 28, Devolver Digital and Free Lives have partnered with environmentally conscious Twitch streamers to create a unique streamer forest at Tree Nation and help make the world a bit greener. Plant trees in participating streamers' chats using custom-made emotes and we’ll plant real trees in the world on their behalf as part of the Terra Nil Tree Warriors forest.

The streamer forest is at its budding stage right now and will grow over the course of the campaign as participating Terra Nil streams complete their community tree-planting goals. You can also contribute to the forest directly by making a personal donation.

Anvil Empires - Siege Camp
What is Anvil Empires?

Anvil Empires is a large scale game of conquest played by thousands in a persistent online world. Players will take on the role of an individual citizen and build towns, form empires, and ultimately wage war in ages that last weeks at a time. Wars are won not only through strength of arms, but by having a strong economy and supply chain to feed and arm armies of players. The conflict is fully driven by player actions and takes place in an organic world with no safe zones or artificial barriers to PvP.

While Anvil Empires will share many elements with Foxhole, including a persistent world, sandbox gameplay, mass collaboration, and a "cog in the wheel" player perspective, it will also be very different in other areas. There will be a bigger emphasis on settlement building and the conflict will support an order of magnitude more players, allowing up to a thousand players to march alongside each other on the battlefield.

The World of Anvil Empires

Welcome to Calligo, a land that once birthed an enlightened people who represented the pinnacle of civilization, now finds itself a canvas for bloodshed and conquest. Three desperate alliances vie for control of Calligo’s land and resources.

The industrious Novan Remnant return to long abandoned outposts in a bid to reclaim their lost valour. The displaced Aranic, savage Pagans of the south forced to flee their storm-shattered islands, find hope on Calligo’s shores. The Mirrish, Blood of the Ancients steel themselves with the will of their Calligan ancestors to defend their sacred land from the unworthy.

This isolated continent holds an array of deadly creatures and bountiful features. From craggy highlands, to swaths of verdant fields; North Astria’s dense forests unfurl into the murky mires of Lisinger. The northern mountains of Etenweall are frigid and unforgiving, while the southern islands are home to barren land and fertile soil alike. Dark secrets lie hidden inside Calligo’s primeval mountains, beneath its abyssal seas, and between grains of the very soil itself. Tread carefully, for this land may not be so easy to conquer.

Technology

Anvil Empires is targeted to support a thousand players within a dense battle and many more thousands across a large persistent online world. Many massively played PvP games either support a small number of combatants on the same dense battlefield or a large number of players spread out across a large map. In Anvil Empires, the goal is to support the best of both, with up to a thousand players marching shoulder to shoulder in a dense environment.

To meet these lofty goals, the R2 Engine has been developed from the ground up over the last few years. R2 Engine is a custom server engine that supports up to a thousand players in a dense environment and tens of thousands of simulated and replicated entities in a large world. Several years ago, a real world test was staged with a thousand players in the Battle of Red River tech demo. The current iteration of the engine supports many gameplay features, including the ability to simulate massive dense forests (like the ones in the map below) existing in a local region with a very large number of players in it.

Unlike many general purpose engines, R2 Engine was designed from the ground up to be optimized specifically for games like Anvil Empires. This isn't a miracle technology that "just works", but takes a practical approach to meet Anvil Empire's novel design requirements. The technology will contend with real world constraints like bandwidth and the limits of modern day server CPU performance, but will overcome them by taking advantage of parallel processing, modern day network replication techniques, and application specific optimization.

Pre-Alpha

Anvil Empires will be an incredibly complex game that will require a lot of experimentation and iteration to get right. Like Foxhole, there is no existing blueprint for game design, so ideas must be validated and developed through playtesting in a live environment with at least hundreds of simultaneous players from the community.

To meet this goal, the Pre-Alpha will launch in April which will be used as the platform for further developing Anvil Empires in the coming months. The initial Pre-Alpha will be an early in-development demo, where only a small subset of foundational features will be in place. Many features will be added, removed, or drastically changed throughout the process. The experimentation process won't be without ups and downs, but it'll all be in service of finding the optimal design that meets the goals of the project.

If you have a high tolerance for playing early development builds with bugs and incomplete features, please head to the Anvil Empires Discord to get the latest news on joining the Pre-Alpha. While access will be limited initially, the Pre-Alpha will be 100% free and won't require any kind of buy in to participate.
