Shardpunk - bryqu
Wow. Shardpunk is set to release next month. I can't express how thrilling it is to be nearing the finish line. Although, I must acknowledge that the game's release is more like a checkpoint, as there's still work to be done even after it's out.

I recently had a blast testing Shardpunk on the "hard" difficulty. I am pretty good at the game and enjoy a good challenge. However, I do believe that a challenge should be fair. Or maybe: it should feel fair, even if it isn't objectively so.

During my playthrough, I faced a tough decision when I had to use my only Fusion Core to revive a downed character, leaving me without backup.

Soon after, I was overwhelmed by vermin and had to regroup while waiting for skill cooldowns to expire.

Unfortunately, I've also decided to move my automaton out of cover in a bold move to stun the enemies. This proved to be a rookie mistake. The enemy took advantage of it and focused their fire, resulting in the automaton being downed. Unfortunately, I was out of Fusion Cores, which are the only items that can revive a downed automaton in combat.

As I searched through the unexplored loot points for a backup Fusion Core, I hoped that the game would be "fair" and provide me with one. However, luck was not on my side, and I lost the run.

I started wondering if the game could be more forgiving in certain scenarios. For instance, imagine if the probability of finding a Fusion Core increased if the player has none left and the automaton is shutting down.

Similarly, what if the game allowed the player to find at least one stimpak when searching through stuff during combat if there were no more stimpaks left, and someone was already bleeding out?

Would these scenarios be exploited by the player? Would the player start playing carelessly because they would know that the game will save them when they're in trouble? Probably not, as long as I would introduce some kind of randomness to it - meaning that this mechanism would not give you 100% success chance of finding a useful item, but, say, 75%.

I will definitely put that in the game and see how it works. And if you have any comments on that, do let me know - either here, or on the game's Discord channel!

Long story short - I had to leave my country due to political and economic reasons. Now I'm safe and can work again!

In this update I fixed small grammar errors and added game logo for Linux. It was more just to show that I'm alive than anything.

Mucho texto: corrigi um defeito gráfico que fazia o jogo pipocar a tela inteira e impactar a performance em certas configurações gráficas. Por favor atualize agora se você já encontrou problemas gráficos.

Agora não precisa mais ler o resto; só se você quiser muito.

Eu não gosto muito de usar sincronização vertical (VSync) em jogos, essa tecnologia limita a taxa de quadros por segundo (FPS) à taxa de atualização (refresh rate) do monitor, o que previne um desagradável efeito "rasgado" quando essas taxas não batem. A parte desagradável é que taxas de quadros por segundo ainda tendem a "flutuar" - quando a sincronização está desligada, essa flutuação ocorre entre valores acima do limite do monitor, tornando a mudança imperceptível; quando o VSync está ligado, por outro lado, a flutuação ocorre do limite do seu monitor pra baixo! Em um monitor mais modesto, limitado em 60Hz, como o meu, uma variação momentânea de 60 para 55 FPS é perceptível, e mesmo que não aconteça sempre, pode ser um pouco ou muito incômodo, dependendo de o quão insuportável você é como pessoa (eu sou bastante).

Dito isso, parece ser um problema do Godot, nosso motor gráfico, em que ele interage muito muito mal com tecnologias mais modernas de captura de tela (tipo, updates do OBS *desse ano* e tal), causando defeitos gráficos que, ainda que não apareçam em transmissões ou gravações, ainda são visíveis para o usuário e podem impactar a performance, eu acho, não tenho certeza.

Então agora o VSync vem ligado por padrão no jogo, eu fiz questão de mudar a forma que o jogo salva essa informação para que a mudança ocorra até para quem já esteve jogando sem acarretar em qualquer perda de progresso ou informações salvas.

+ Novidade: Agora é possível ligar ou desligar a sincronização vertical (VSync) no painel de configurações.

~ Mudança: A opção de sincronização vertical (VSync) vem ligada por padrão, evitando defeitos gráficos em muitos sistemas.

Hello everyone. Sorry if you expected a fantastic content-filled update today, this is just a list of every update since 1.26 because I noticed not everyone was aware that the game is always being updated, whether it shows up on Steam News or not.

If you want to stay up to date (for real) then you're better off joining the Discord server or reading the blog. Steam News is cool and everything but it exists in a weird limbo between the immediate interactivity of Discord and the complete lack of it on the blog. There is information on there that isn't available anywhere else.

  • Some extra checks when uploading items to the Workshop to prevent unclear failures
  • When a mod is uploaded from within the game, it is modified slightly to make it harder to blatantly reupload
  • Limb.StrengthMultipliers, a float array that is used to adjust the final motor strength of the limb. Empty by default.

  • Renamed "Blood vessel wire" to "Liquid conduit"
  • Objects held by humans (etc.) will no longer collide with the human until it is distant enough or 15 seconds have passed. This prevents, for example, dropped weapons from freaking out when its wielder is killed.

Pre-Release, Alpha Gameplay

Last month, we shared a very early look at Miasma Chronicles - right from the beginning of the game. You can check out the full 16+ minute video below. We knew this was a very highly requested asset and we wanted to give you more than just a snapshot with no context.

We join Elvis and Diggs right at the beginning of their journey, attempting to break through a giant-impenetrable Miasma Wall (the same wall you might have seen in the announcement trailer). Unfortunately, Elvis’ glove can’t quite handle the stress and it catches fire... again.

Elvis and Diggs attempt to make their way back to Sedentary but run into the Vader family getting mauled by what look like hideous mutated frogs?!.
