Across Football Manager 2023, there have been enhancements which align in-game actions with how real-life clubs operate more so than in any previous edition.
Working with a variety of clubs and contacts across the globe, insight into how teams utilise their scouting network and complete player transfers has resulted in a fully updated scouting system for FM23. The main product of this is the brand new Recruitment Focus.
In this Byline article, FM Stag and Dan Gear take us through what the Recruitment Focus is, how it works and how to get the best out of it to help with your player recruitment.
We have a game update for you today! It contains several changes we've seen discussed on our feedback platform, thank you very much for taking the time to use it!
Host Swapping
When playing matchmade games, one player is selected as the host. The host's computer is responsible for doing all of the physics calculations, giving them a variable advantage based on both players' pings. Sometimes this advantage is negligible, other times it's quite noticeable.
What we've done now, is that when both fighters agree to a rematch, host advantages are swapped between the two of them. This means that if you had host advantage in the last match, your opponent will receive them when the rematch starts. This should create a more level playing field across longer playing sessions, without the need to back out to the Gym.
Pose Ghost Flipping
A new slider has been added to the Move Selector. This slider can be used to change which variant of the currently selected move is displayed. All moves have 2 variants, normal, and flipped. The Pose Ghost used to always display the normal variant of your selected move, but now you can also choose for it to display the flipped variant.
LIV Recording Camera
Our own built-in recording camera has been very heavy on performance ever since launch, and truth be told we do not yet have our sights set on a fix. However, we would like to offer you an alternative solution for the time being.
We've updated our LIV integration. If you have both RUMBLE and LIV installed through Steam, you'll have the option to enable a LIV-based recording camera instead of the one we created ourselves. This new camera will allow you record in first person, as well as third person. It will also, if you want to, allow you to use a custom avatar that you uploaded in the LIV client. All this for a fraction of the performance cost of our own camera, so if you like recording your gameplay we highly recommend giving this a try!
Another update is coming next week, so stay tuned!
That's all for today, we hope you enjoy the changes this update brings!
RUMBLE Version 0.2.5 Patch Notes
CHANGES
Host advantages will now be swapped between fighters on a rematch.
A new slider has been added to the Move Selector that will toggle whether the Pose Ghost displays the move normally, or flipped.
The LIV integration has been updated to allow for more recording options, including a first person one.
FIXES
A bug was fixed that sometimes prevented Steam players from logging in to the game.
Using Stomp on a parried structure will now correctly ground the structure when it lands.
Additional error logs have been added to tutorial sequences, which will help with troubleshooting.
A new way to play the game has been added for the tutorial and regular gameplay, called quick play.
When enabled, our AI will provide 3 suggestions to the player to choose from. Users can still choose to play the “classic” tutorial and can be toggled in the settings before a match if they want to change.
Homepage layout
Challenge mode has been renamed to the starter league and is now the main tile on the home screen.
Credit rewards are automatically given to the users who perform best in the starter league.
Connectivity improvements
We have included the option to rejoin private & starter league matches - like you can for competitive games. We have also resolved a bug causing some matchmaking games not to start.
Movement bug
We fixed a visual bug related to the distance players can move. Sometimes it would not be in sync with the match engine and caused some unexpected behaviour for players without the ball.
AI bugs
Some of the AI specific match engine bugs have been resolved. We will continue to investigate and improve the AI decision logic in future releases.
11v11 Camera zoom
We have changed the default camera zoom level for 11v11 matches. This can still be changed during the match if you want.
Help videos
We have added help videos to some key pages, to explain some important features in more detail.
As always, you can leave feedback in a review, through the steam forums or you can join our Discord and raise them directly to us there. We are happy to announce that Greyhill Incident releases on June 9th 2023 on Steam, PS5 & XBOX X|S!
As you may already know, it's inspired by 'true incidents', books, tv shows & films from "Fire in the Sky" over to "The X-Files", "Communion" and other works of the past.
Greyhill Incident is our homage to the classic grey Alien & UFO topic and we're working hard to make it the best experience, as we can.
Greyhill became way bigger than originally planned and we can't wait for you to play it!
Stop The Flash and rescue Lex Luthor in the process. No matter the cost.
Check out the first official look at 4-player #CoOp #Gameplay for #SuicideSquadGame in this exclusive Sony State of Play trailer as Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and King Shark combine their unique traversal abilities, gunplay, melee, tactics, and teamwork to face off against waves of Brainiac's corrupted soldiers and take down a huge techno-organic artillery gun that has been phased into Metropolis.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is available May 26, 2023.
This update adds a new map editor to create custom maps and also include the first official custom map: a giant map of Earth. It also contains world map display optimizations (already patched in a while ago).
Map editor
The new map editor allows you to create custom world maps. You can also preview the list of procedural resources that will appear on each territory and override it with a custom list of resources to control where you want strategic resources to appear.
Earth map
The update also contains a new official custom highly detailed map of Earth which even includes some customized resources to match historical data (only partial). It can be viewed and modified with the editor for your own games as well.
Earth Server
For the occasion, today Server 2 is being restarted as the "Earth server", with a new game using the new custom Earth map. This is experimental due to the size of the map compared to the traditional ones used in other games, and the max limit of players is also being pushed to 120 instead 100.
Server setup
The way to setup servers has been reworked and the .ini files have been reorganized and extended to allow setuping new server games purely through .ini files. Refer to Porcopedia for more details here.
Worldmap display optimizations
Worldmap display has also been optimized to better handle larger maps such as the Earth map.
The Map editor update v0.6.3
- implemented map editor - implemented starting games with custom maps - added giant "Earth" custom map - starting a server with no game argument now auto starts a new game with default settings (old server UI to start/load games is deprecated) - made it possible to fully setup new servers through .ini files - in server game save folders, game_settings.ini is renamed server_settings.ini for coherence. - repaired client logic not updating properly when terraforming heights - fixed probably cause of abnormal tech speed development in persistent servers - fixed bug of resource satisfaction quality not working - fied bug of annexation target in war not turning to "unadministered" when won - fixed bug of war declare invalid target when declaring through character menu - fixed bug causing a project failure loop - fixed bug with war resolution treaties starting with engagement period showing as "engagement over" - added more informations about engagement period and current status in treaty UI - fixed bugs with war escalation not working properly
Previous Patches: - implemented worldmap display optimizations - fixed exploit of using "lowres" cached worldmap to see fully explored worldmap - migrants formations now suffer a permanent attrition and will disappear if not settled - fixed issue with mission "Thriving agriculture" and required amount of fields - fixed bug with restoring field cost - fixed bug of discrepancies between farm building menu and real server production - fixed placement UI showing wrong cost when building walls - fixed crash when settling from inside territory - corrected "new game" menu looking wrong for 1080p resolutions - fixed missing agricultural food resources in some arid/desert spawns - fixed problem of fields over inaccessible tiles (ponds, lakes) - fixed bug of decreased production gains from natural sources with production skills - corrected natural source factor of natural plants to better match pre-patch balance - fixed issues with resizing field costs - fixed "unload all" button appearing on non-controlled formations
This month, we have done a lot of work on a new mission type, called base evacuation! In this mission type, the resistance will need to hold up the invaders long enough for the evacuation. Let's see how it works in detail.
Campaign side
A quick reminder of how rebel bases work. Every region has multiple territories, and the resistance can have one secret base per region, in one of the territories. If at any point the territory with the base loses all loyalty to the resistance, the rebel base will be exposed, and the base will be attacked by the army that caused the loyalty loss. So managing the loyalty of territories with a rebel base will be very important if the player wants to avoid this kind of mission.
In case there are other valid territories for the resistance base in this region (so territories with non-zero loyalty), then the base evacuation mission will trigger. How much of the base will be evacuated will depend on the performance of the player on the mission. On a failed mission, or if there are no valid territories to evacuate the base is automatically destroyed.
Combat side
The combat map will be generated using the rooms that have been built in the campaign layer for the base. A reminder of how it looks in the campaign layer:
Every buildable room has a combat map equivalent. Few examples of parts of the different rooms:
The mission itself will be the inverse of what the resistance is used to. The mission starts with the resistance units semi-randomly placed around in the base, with the enemy's first wave teleporting in. The player will have 1 round to try and make the best of the given situation, but depending on the circumstance, it can be a very tough fight!
The player units can retreat at any point like in a normal mission, but the objective is to defeat 3 waves of enemies. The end result depends on how many waves have been defeated. In case of 1, the base will be evacuated, but the rooms are lost. In case of 2, a random 2 rooms have been evacuated as well, and in case of 3, the full base has been successfully evacuated.
Closing thoughts
Unrelated, but a piece of very good news is that we have found a great composer who did a great job creating custom-made music for the game. Thanks to this, we will have control over the copyrights of these tracks, so there won't be any issue for content creators who will want to create videos about our new demo! While you will need to wait for the demo to check out the tracks themselves, but the composer has a Youtube page with great tracks if you are curious about what to expect here.
So that's it for today's devlog! As always, if you like what you see and want to show your support, the best way to do that right now is to join our Discord here. Otherwise, see you next time!
Before we get to the report, a quick announcement!
We invite you to subscribe to our YouTube channel, where we will regularly publish videos dedicated not only to Chernobylite, but everything related to it.
Hello Stalkers!
Chernobylite not only entertains, but also teaches. You know that before we started working on the game, we had to conduct a massive research. We went through a lot of photos and videos, and had numerous conversations with people knowledgeable about Chernobyl. We also turned to literature for some hard facts and numbers.
We were relying on literature practically all the time, even in the middle of the production. We used various facts from books as references to hidden curiosities in the game. You got to encounter such a reference during a chat with Mikhail. He recollects about his conversation with a strange acquaintance about Moscow's sewers - it was a reference to the book "Strange Telescopes" by Daniel Kalder. And there’s more of that in our game if you pay attention. Today we will share with you the titles of books that helped us a lot, but also should be an addition to the library of anyone interested in the subject of Chernobyl.
"Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster" by Svetlana Alexievich
A reporter's novel from the Nobel Prize winner. Alexievich interviewed more than 500 eyewitnesses over 10 years, including firefighters, liquidators, politicians, doctors, physicists and ordinary citizens. The book recounts the psychological and personal tragedy of the Chernobyl disaster and explores the experiences of individuals and the impact of the disaster on their lives.
"Plutopia: Nuclear Families, Atomic Cities, and the Great Soviet and American Plutonium Disasters" by Kate Brown
A book about the Cold War era written from a completely different angle. Drawing on official documents and dozens of interviews, Brown describes the stories of Richland, Washington, and Russian Ozersk - the first cities in the world where plutonium was produced. Wanting to hide their secrets, American and Soviet leaders created the eponymous plutopias - communities of nuclear families living in highly subsidized, nuclear cities. In his book, Brown outlines the environmental and social impact of these places on the residents and the surrounding environment.
"Manual for Survival: A Chernobyl Guide to the Future" by Kate Brown
Another book from this author. Brown pulls together all the mistakes made by politicians and bureaucrats in the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster and their attempts to shrug off responsibility for future consequences. She also adds, among other things, the unwillingness of international diplomats and scientists affiliated with the nuclear industry to explain the causes and consequences of the 1986 event. Decades of research in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, and the same mistakes made by Japanese politicians after the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster, have proven that we learned nothing.
"Chernobyl Liquidators. The Unknown Story" by Pawel Sekula
Documents, films and photos are not everything. History is also eyewitness to an event. The book is a record of the oral history of Chernobyl liquidators and their families, as well as their personal experiences, feelings and reflections from being called to the site of the tragedy, to working in the shadow of the Chernobyl reactor, to struggling with the daily reality of the USSR after returning home. If you want to get to know the community of liquidators, learn about their living conditions and daily life, this book is a must-have item.
"Chernobyl: The History of a Nuclear Catastrophe" by Serhii Plokhy
Another detailed (about 500 pages) record of the Chernobyl disaster site. Plokhy writes the story of the event from the perspective of those who were right in the middle of the incident. It chronicles the collapse of Soviet nuclear power and the Soviet state itself.
"Midnight in Chernobyl: The Untold Story of the World's Greatest Nuclear Disaster" by Adam Higginbotham
Higginbotham, through numerous interviews with witnesses, as well as access to declassified files and previously unpublished memoirs, presents the unknown story of Chernobyl. He writes about the establishment of the power plant, the lives of the inhabitants of Pripyat, the absurdities of the USSR, the course of the tragedy and its aftermath, and the behind-the-scenes propaganda efforts. It reads like a thriller novel.
"Chernobyl: Confessions of a Reporter" by Igor Kostin
Igor Kostin flew over the power plant on April 26, 1986 just hours after all hell broke loose there. The only photo he managed to take at the time went around the world. Kostin inextricably linked his fate with that of Chernobyl. Shocked by the magnitude of the event, the reporter stayed on the spot to observe the evacuation, talking to people who came into contact with radioactive waste (most of them later died). His book is a remarkable testimony to the disaster, written and photographed by a witness and participant. It contains many unique photographs.
And that's it. We think it's good to take a break from the screen sometimes and grab a good book. So all that remains is to wish you a pleasant reading!
