This update adds a new map editor to create custom maps and also include the first official custom map: a giant map of Earth. It also contains world map display optimizations (already patched in a while ago).
Map editor
The new map editor allows you to create custom world maps. You can also preview the list of procedural resources that will appear on each territory and override it with a custom list of resources to control where you want strategic resources to appear.
Earth map
The update also contains a new official custom highly detailed map of Earth which even includes some customized resources to match historical data (only partial). It can be viewed and modified with the editor for your own games as well.
Earth Server
For the occasion, today Server 2 is being restarted as the "Earth server", with a new game using the new custom Earth map. This is experimental due to the size of the map compared to the traditional ones used in other games, and the max limit of players is also being pushed to 120 instead 100.
Server setup
The way to setup servers has been reworked and the .ini files have been reorganized and extended to allow setuping new server games purely through .ini files. Refer to Porcopedia for more details here.
Worldmap display optimizations
Worldmap display has also been optimized to better handle larger maps such as the Earth map.
The Map editor update v0.6.3

This month, we have done a lot of work on a new mission type, called base evacuation! In this mission type, the resistance will need to hold up the invaders long enough for the evacuation. Let's see how it works in detail.
Campaign side
A quick reminder of how rebel bases work. Every region has multiple territories, and the resistance can have one secret base per region, in one of the territories. If at any point the territory with the base loses all loyalty to the resistance, the rebel base will be exposed, and the base will be attacked by the army that caused the loyalty loss. So managing the loyalty of territories with a rebel base will be very important if the player wants to avoid this kind of mission.
In case there are other valid territories for the resistance base in this region (so territories with non-zero loyalty), then the base evacuation mission will trigger. How much of the base will be evacuated will depend on the performance of the player on the mission. On a failed mission, or if there are no valid territories to evacuate the base is automatically destroyed.
Combat side
The combat map will be generated using the rooms that have been built in the campaign layer for the base. A reminder of how it looks in the campaign layer:
Every buildable room has a combat map equivalent. Few examples of parts of the different rooms:
The mission itself will be the inverse of what the resistance is used to. The mission starts with the resistance units semi-randomly placed around in the base, with the enemy's first wave teleporting in. The player will have 1 round to try and make the best of the given situation, but depending on the circumstance, it can be a very tough fight!
The player units can retreat at any point like in a normal mission, but the objective is to defeat 3 waves of enemies. The end result depends on how many waves have been defeated. In case of 1, the base will be evacuated, but the rooms are lost. In case of 2, a random 2 rooms have been evacuated as well, and in case of 3, the full base has been successfully evacuated.
Closing thoughts
Unrelated, but a piece of very good news is that we have found a great composer who did a great job creating custom-made music for the game. Thanks to this, we will have control over the copyrights of these tracks, so there won't be any issue for content creators who will want to create videos about our new demo! While you will need to wait for the demo to check out the tracks themselves, but the composer has a Youtube page with great tracks if you are curious about what to expect here.
So that's it for today's devlog! As always, if you like what you see and want to show your support, the best way to do that right now is to join our Discord here. Otherwise, see you next time!
Before we get to the report, a quick announcement!
We invite you to subscribe to our YouTube channel, where we will regularly publish videos dedicated not only to Chernobylite, but everything related to it.
Hello Stalkers!
Chernobylite not only entertains, but also teaches. You know that before we started working on the game, we had to conduct a massive research. We went through a lot of photos and videos, and had numerous conversations with people knowledgeable about Chernobyl. We also turned to literature for some hard facts and numbers.
We were relying on literature practically all the time, even in the middle of the production. We used various facts from books as references to hidden curiosities in the game. You got to encounter such a reference during a chat with Mikhail. He recollects about his conversation with a strange acquaintance about Moscow's sewers - it was a reference to the book "Strange Telescopes" by Daniel Kalder. And there’s more of that in our game if you pay attention. Today we will share with you the titles of books that helped us a lot, but also should be an addition to the library of anyone interested in the subject of Chernobyl.
"Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster" by Svetlana Alexievich
A reporter's novel from the Nobel Prize winner. Alexievich interviewed more than 500 eyewitnesses over 10 years, including firefighters, liquidators, politicians, doctors, physicists and ordinary citizens. The book recounts the psychological and personal tragedy of the Chernobyl disaster and explores the experiences of individuals and the impact of the disaster on their lives.
"Plutopia: Nuclear Families, Atomic Cities, and the Great Soviet and American Plutonium Disasters" by Kate Brown
A book about the Cold War era written from a completely different angle. Drawing on official documents and dozens of interviews, Brown describes the stories of Richland, Washington, and Russian Ozersk - the first cities in the world where plutonium was produced. Wanting to hide their secrets, American and Soviet leaders created the eponymous plutopias - communities of nuclear families living in highly subsidized, nuclear cities. In his book, Brown outlines the environmental and social impact of these places on the residents and the surrounding environment.
"Manual for Survival: A Chernobyl Guide to the Future" by Kate Brown
Another book from this author. Brown pulls together all the mistakes made by politicians and bureaucrats in the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster and their attempts to shrug off responsibility for future consequences. She also adds, among other things, the unwillingness of international diplomats and scientists affiliated with the nuclear industry to explain the causes and consequences of the 1986 event. Decades of research in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, and the same mistakes made by Japanese politicians after the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster, have proven that we learned nothing.
"Chernobyl Liquidators. The Unknown Story" by Pawel Sekula
Documents, films and photos are not everything. History is also eyewitness to an event. The book is a record of the oral history of Chernobyl liquidators and their families, as well as their personal experiences, feelings and reflections from being called to the site of the tragedy, to working in the shadow of the Chernobyl reactor, to struggling with the daily reality of the USSR after returning home. If you want to get to know the community of liquidators, learn about their living conditions and daily life, this book is a must-have item.
"Chernobyl: The History of a Nuclear Catastrophe" by Serhii Plokhy
Another detailed (about 500 pages) record of the Chernobyl disaster site. Plokhy writes the story of the event from the perspective of those who were right in the middle of the incident. It chronicles the collapse of Soviet nuclear power and the Soviet state itself.
"Midnight in Chernobyl: The Untold Story of the World's Greatest Nuclear Disaster" by Adam Higginbotham
Higginbotham, through numerous interviews with witnesses, as well as access to declassified files and previously unpublished memoirs, presents the unknown story of Chernobyl. He writes about the establishment of the power plant, the lives of the inhabitants of Pripyat, the absurdities of the USSR, the course of the tragedy and its aftermath, and the behind-the-scenes propaganda efforts. It reads like a thriller novel.
"Chernobyl: Confessions of a Reporter" by Igor Kostin
Igor Kostin flew over the power plant on April 26, 1986 just hours after all hell broke loose there. The only photo he managed to take at the time went around the world. Kostin inextricably linked his fate with that of Chernobyl. Shocked by the magnitude of the event, the reporter stayed on the spot to observe the evacuation, talking to people who came into contact with radioactive waste (most of them later died). His book is a remarkable testimony to the disaster, written and photographed by a witness and participant. It contains many unique photographs.
And that's it. We think it's good to take a break from the screen sometimes and grab a good book. So all that remains is to wish you a pleasant reading!

Lone wolf
New perk for solo players called "Lone Wolf." This perk is designed to give players who prefer to play alone some added advantages in the game, but with some notable downsides as well. With the Lone Wolf perk, players will receive several bonuses while playing solo, including increased running speed, improved damage resistance, increased damage output against NPCs, and a higher carrying capacity for loot. These bonuses will give solo players a significant edge in survival situations, allowing them to explore the game world and complete objectives with greater ease. However, players should be aware that the Lone Wolf perk also comes with some significant penalties when playing in a group. For instance, Lone Wolf characters will stay in the knocked-out state for a much shorter period, meaning teammates will have less time to help the Lone Wolf recover. Additionally, Lone Wolf characters will deal more damage to their teammates, making cooperation and teamwork more difficult. Finally, players with the Lone Wolf perk will need to eat and drink much more than their teammates, making it more challenging to sustain a group. Overall, the Lone Wolf perk is a great addition to Lost Region, offering solo players some much-needed advantages in the game while also providing an added layer of challenge and complexity for those who prefer to play in groups.
Agraphobia
Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder that causes individuals to fear being in open or public spaces, which can be a significant disadvantage in a game that requires players to explore a vast and dangerous world. As a result, players with this condition will face some significant challenges when playing Lost Region. One of the primary disadvantages of Agoraphobia is that it increases the stamina cost for any activity, making it more difficult to perform tasks like running, jumping, and even just walking around. Additionally, players with this condition will find that their running and sprinting speed is slightly slower than other characters, making it harder to escape dangerous situations or catch up with other players. However, Agoraphobia also adds a unique advantage that can be a game-changer for players who learn to use it effectively. Characters with Agoraphobia generate more adrenaline than other characters, which means they can quickly boost their fighting abilities in combat situations. This adrenaline rush can help Agoraphobic characters turn the tide of a battle, even when facing overwhelming odds.
Lately, we’ve been analyzing your save files in detail and finding ways to extract more performance from Patron. And we did find some incremental ways to get some gains. In our testing these modifications yielded more gains on slower machines, but measurable improvements were visible on all machines.
Thank you for assisting us with sending your data files. We’ll continue to search for more gains and will keep pushing updates with optimizations, as well as some other improvements in the future!
