Why Mark Trees?



Spray cans in various colors allow you to mark trees with a set of signs, so you and your friends know what to do. Let's take a look at the colors and symbols and what they mean.

In deadwood missions, a new type of contract coming with the Platinum Expansion, trees supposed to be removed, are already marked. Fell only the marked trees - otherwise, you get a penalty for removing healthy trees!

Please note: Since the meaning of tree markings is not universal and differs internationally, you might disagree with the use of colors and signs described here. That's okay - since you can use the colors and symbols as you see fit. If you want to use them in accordance with the local preferences in your neck of the woods, you can look them up by searching the internet with queries based on your location.


Tree Marking Spray



At the virtual dealership, you find spray cans in different colors. Gameplay-wise, you can use any color. Choose your favorite, if you want. In reality, though, they're usually associated with specific actions or purposes after felling the tree.

Red or white is used in many regions when it comes to harvesting timber, forwarding within the forest and selling harvested logs.  Blue or orange on the other hand are often traffic-related or used to mark logs that are to be destined for firewood. 



Buy spray cans at the dealership in the "tools" section. You find various colors of tree marking spray in its own category. You equip it just like the chainsaw, either pressing the assigned key to swap inventory items or use the mouse wheel. You can switch the signs by pressing the respectively assigned keys, point at the tree and press the button to apply the chosen symbol. 


Tree Marking Signs



  • Logging trail: Marking trees with two horizontal, parallel lines indicates that you are on a trail where machines move to the actual logging location.
  • Remove tree: Trees marked with the "backslash" are supposed to be removed.
  • Support tree: Trees marked with the circle are not supposed to be chopped down, but supported. Meaning, leave him (and his friends) alone, or plant new trees in the vicinity.
  • Saw off at this height is indicated by a horizontal line with an arrow facing down. 
  • Deadwood is indicated with an exclamation mark. You will see this when taking on deadwood missions. They are to be removed.
  • X can have various meanings. Often, it just marks trees should be removed for whatever reason. Feel free to assign any meaning to this mark. 
As mentioned above, a lot of symbols are not universally recognized, but their meaning differs internationally. Neither colors nor symbols follow a strict code, but are merely local or a forest ranger's personal preferences. 

While the "X" often just means "this tree is marked to be removed" for whatever reason, in some parts of the world it is only applied to hazardous trees (deadwood) that pose a threat to nearby trees. Or it means whatever the forest ranger says it means. If you're new to forestry, you can work with the signs and meanings in the graphic above, or use them just like you prefer.

Another update has arrived! Bringing many requested balance changes as well as bug fixes! This patch will go live on steam right now! And itl go live on Microsoft Store next week, so if you update, you will experience issues with crossplay until its updated on both platforms.

Balance

- Some minor balance fixes for outdated focuses
- Minor balance of subpar focuses
- Minor balance changes. Railway focuses that only give railways should not also give another bonus as compensation
- Increased Air Wing damage bonus from speed advantage
- Decreased org loss from air borne air drops from 90% org loss to 60% org loss
- More peace conference AI improvements. Ai should now be less willing to perform different actions on the same bucket of states
- Main IC cost for planes moved from airframes to engines
- Updated hitprofile calulation to include speed base modiers
- Shortened a few Ethiopian Industrial focuses to 35 days, and changed the requirements for the Develop Shewa focus.
- Updated hitprofile calulation to include speed base modier
- Reduced cannon 2 air attack, increased weight of naval attack modules, reduced air defence stat modules

Stability & Performance


- Fixed CTD when showing resources with invalid ownership.
- Further Peace Conference AI balance changes, unaligned nations will now mostly embrace Empire, and take land for themselves. England now has a slight preference for coastal regions. AI is slightly less keen on multi-puppeting in multi-faction scenarios
- Added VRAM usage to the ingame profiler UI
- Fixed failure to create DX11 device on Windows 7 without KB 2670838. For the love of god please run windows update.
- Reduced VRAM usage by making sure the game will only load the fonts required to display the chosen game language.

-Added ambient sound for each biome.
-Music now plays randomly on a regular basis, the music volume slider still works in the game settings.
-By standard, now the volume of the music is very small (if you don't like it, just turn it to zero).
-Improved the sound of the robot flying over water.
-Reduced the volume of the steps of the protagonist.

We’ve been thinking and we realized that we’ve been talking to you for a while now, you read our devlogs, you comment, you check out the Terror: Endless Night demo available until the end of the week, you add our game to your wishlists (thank you so much, by the way!) and you don’t even know who WE are. Of course, you know we’re the people running this ship and delivering Terror to you, pardon the pun, but you don’t really know us. So, the time has come for you to meet the crew.

Unseen Silence started off as a project of three friends, brought together by a genuine passion for games cultivated for years. Well, that, and the fact that two of them are brothers. Our tireless trio, Piotr Kurkowski, Krzysztof Szymański, and Ignacy Kurkowski, have spent countless hours discussing other people’s games to death, taking them apart, and looking at each part under a metaphorical microscope.

Another one of our boys’ passions is live music, and it’s actually after one of the shows they went to in 2019 (though at this point it’s hard to tell whether it was Muse or Alice in Chains) that the idea of making their own game has first come up. Initially, the plan was to make a fighting game, something like “Mortal Kombat” or “Street Fighter” that would conquer the market with an original artstyle but the idea did not survive a confrontation with our soon-acquired industry knowledge.

Piotr had just finished reading “The Terror” by Dan Simmons and it left quite an impression on him. So much so, that it got him thinking, and he soon realized how much potential there is in setting a story on a ship trapped in arctic ice. He floated the idea during one of the meetings with Ignacy and Krzysztof and, unlike its inspiration, it was not put on ice, because they loved it. Soon after, during another meetup, the boys figured out the basics - the game was to be a turn-based strategy game, have difficult moral choices, an ever present sense of danger and limited resources. They also made their minds up in regards to the main enemy - the monster that lurks in every human’s soul. Now they had all the ingredients that would soon make up the essence of “Terror: Endless Night”.

The main challenge was wrapping it all in a compelling horror narrative. We decided on a story driven game, where the plot takes the center stage so the script needed to have a lot of “meat” to hold the player’s attention. Today, I can confidently say that we have succeeded in that goal.

The following months were filled with intense design work, and tons of “playtesting” the not-yet-existing game in Excel sheets. The crew also temporarily grew one mate bigger when the boys enlisted the help of a visual artist Sewer Hrehorowicz to create concept art for the game. After writing down all the fundamentals of the game and many revisions to make sure the final version is absolutely bulletproof, our crew put together a presentation and were ready to show it to publishers. The response was outstanding.

Naturally, the first new addition was Sewer Hrehorowicz along with his studio, “CVLT”. With his impressive artistic skills and familiarity with the project he was a perfect fit and was soon put in charge of all things graphic design. The programming side of things was entrusted to Artur Dębowski, who was to lead a team of two other code experts - Piotr Spychała and Emil Dębkowski. Finally, on board came Aleksandra Godek to tie everything together as a producer, and this ship was ready to sail.
