Another year is coming to an end. It is a good moment not only for New Year's wishes, but also to take stock. During this year we managed to release Wingspan on 3 more platforms, set up the TikTok account (it ain't much, but it's honest work) and, most importantly, we announced work on Wingspan: European Expansion, about which you will hear more soon. There is still a lot of work ahead of us, but we are ready for it.

Hey everyone,

with 2022 getting ready to get passed the baton, let us look back onto 2021, specifically the last nine months, from the Release in March up until now. After that we will take a little peek at what's still to come up to, and including, full release. Grab a cup of hot cocoa (or a cool beverage of choice for our friends down south), and let's start!




Ah yes, humble beginnings. Did you know we never made a Steam Announcement on Release Day? Fun times! We were quite humbled after the Early Access release, and completely overwhelmed! Given we did not have a Community Manager back then - Dom joined us back in June! - and did not at all think there would be as many players, and as much feedback, as there were, it threw a little spanner into the works. Thankfully, we have gotten a better handle on things since.

This first phase also was our longest, spanning from Release in later March pretty much exactly five months, until Gamescom in late August. We went from a rough outlook of our plans shortly after Release to a proper roadmap, with concrete plans and formulations (and a later Full Release delay), in late june. This was also the first bigger announcement after onboarding Dom, yay!

We mostly fixed bugs, added QoL changes and feature during this phase. Keyboard Rebinding, Cloud Save support, and localizations are a few of the bigger items here.




Summer Time! this phase kicked off with Gamescom in late August, where we released the Creative Update. This aptly named content update brought the much-requested Creative Mode to the game. Can you wrap your head around the fact this was just four months ago!? We also reworked the Main Menu to allow better visualization of Savegames, as this Update also brought the Savegame system with it, which allows you to have multiple concurrent Classic and/or Creative games going at once, and to convert your old Classic Mode games to Creative Mode (or just keep them around as Classic Mode Saves to revisit).

During Gamescom, we held a "Creative Contest" based on the, then active, Demo's tile Limitation. You guys liked it, and wanted to participate despite already owning the game! We liked the idea and this evolved into our Creative Showcase competitions.
We also held a live Q&A here on Steam, which was quite the set up! We enjoyed it a lot and we want to do another one at some point, probably closer around Full Release.



And just like that, it was Halloween! The most recent of the Content Updates, affectionately dubbed the Halloween Update, was released just in time for the big event.

This one was all about new Tiles, visual improvements, and usability! The big one was the Enchanted Biome, a mysterious biome. We also added new animals like everyone's favorite, the beaver, and a ruin which is a requirement in any Halloween update, no? Villages also got some glow-ups in the form of decoration: Bushes, creates, vases and, most importantly, pumpkins! Last, but certainly not least, we added partial lake tiles based on your requests - And we love them! We also upped our "Content Update Presentation Announcement" game quite a bit. Maybe even a little too much?

Our core dev team did not work much on Dorfromantik during this cycle, as they were busy writing their Master's Thesis, and outside of hotfixing the most egregious bugs, they pooled their energy completely into the upcoming Winter Update.
Dorfromantik was named "Best German Game" at the 2021 German Developer Awards in early December.

So, where does the journey go from here, you might ask. First of all, we released the Winter Update right before christmas! We are taking some well-needed, deserved vacation time right now. Once we are recharged, its all eyes on 1.0 - Maybe we'll put out some things earlier, be it as a potential 0.4.1, or maybe even as a surprise 0.5 - Either way we'll also need to work through lots of feedback, lots of suggestions, and even more plans of our own! There are still some unresolved items, like Controller Support and the long-awaited Undo Button waiting for us, after all.

And then, once we release version 1.0? Well, to be honest, everything post the initial hotfix phase is up in the air. Maybe we'll take some time off after an intense year. Maybe we'll work on more content. Maybe we'll look into those, erm, what do you folks call them again, "Port", thingies. Maybe we'll do something completely different for a bit, just to confuse you!
All jokes aside, we have some plans, and even more ideas, depending on the launch's reception. We also hope the world will finally be in a better place next summer, as we would like to meet you folks, and each other (That is, mostly our two remote co-workers, are they even real!?), in the flesh! No matter what 2022 holds for us, we would love to show off Dorfromantik in person at an event like Gamescom.

Dear All,

Today is the last day of the year, which for us personally was extremely busy, highly engaging, full of all sorts of smaller and bigger challenges. The period of pandemic and partial isolation was not an easy time for many. The progress of work on the game significantly accelerated in the second half of the year. We've launched the Closed-Beta. During that time we've received a lot of very important and valuable feedback and we've implemented various improvements according to testers' ideas, and last week we've launched Open Beta sign-ups. We've also created Reddit Page in December. Our Reddit community is still small, but we hope it will grow as much as the community on Discord has grown in the last 11 months, offering players the diversity in available gaming communities and for us, another place to promote our game. We say goodbye to this year and welcome the new one, which will be also tremendously intense for us!

We would like to thank you once again for your help and for all the warm and thoughtful words! For sharp and constructive criticism too. We also want to thank all the players who signed up for the playtests so far and those who supported us from the beginning of their ancient Egypt journey!

Please take care of yourself and your loved ones in the coming year. Don't forget about your health and work-life balance, which is much harder to keep when working remotely (we know something about it). Chernobylite Complete Edition - Pablo
Hello Stalkers!
In a few hours we will welcome 2022. We’re very, very excited about what the new year will bring us. We hope you do too, especially if you've seen our roadmap. However, before we look into the glass ball in search of an answer to the question of what awaits us in the near future, we would like to go on a journey with you. 12 months back to be exact.

Out of curiosity, we looked at all the reports from the past year, and gosh, we were taken by nostalgia. We were preparing the last mission for you, we polished the game to the limit, we tossed you various curiosities from the backstage of the game's development, and most importantly - we counted the days to the premiere of the game on PC, and then also on consoles. Oh yes, the past year has been extremely intense for us.

Before midnight strikes, we would like to remind you of the most interesting moments of the old year. Because no matter how you look, you also were a lot of part of those memories… So let's experience it again!

JANUARY

The new year brings new ideas. We had a pretty bold plan to show you more behind-the-scenes material. It was not just about graphics or object models without textures, but to authentically show how the game is made. The first thing we did was a conversation with Adam, our sound designer, who talked about how the sounds for the game are created. And that's with the use of homemade items.

The next week brings new touches to the game. Thanks to the new capabilities of Unreal Engine, we could, for example, improve the appearance of the water surface so that it looked… well, like water, not like cloudy slush. We also boast about new voiceovers - ALL lines have been re-recorded to make them sound more natural. As a reminder: it was in the middle of the pandemic, so we couldn't record anything in the studio. So it wasn’t easy.

FEBRUARY

This month is marked by improvements and tweaks. For example, we've given a specific tutorial explaining what you can see in the mission view screen, improved the look of the base, especially the weapon crafting and upgrade tables, and the effect of falling raindrops. Maybe not much, but it does make a difference.

Just before the Mega Patch was released, we asked for your help. We started a closed test of the patch, in which a group of 100 people could participate. These people had the opportunity to test the patch with all its content before we released it to the public. Hello friends! Happy New Year to everyone! The past year has been difficult and the latest events in the world are like some kind of fantastic TV show or game with an unpredictable plot. In this regard, I would like to wish everyone to survive in the new 2022 without losses :) All health, patience and strength!





About projects, at the beginning of the year there will be a small update of the game "35MM" with full support for the gamepad. There will also be some bug fixes.

An updated version of the game "35MM" with a photo mode will be released on consoles this spring. The event is very important for me, because for a long time the fate of the project on consoles was not clear.



Also now I am actively working on a new project "Hail to the Rainbow".




A lot of work, but little time :) All year I have been developing the project structure, mechanics, save system, controllers, etc. Made several locations. I can't show anything complete yet, only some materials are posted on my Patreon channel. But closer to spring, the game will finally get a Steam page, a teaser and other visual content.

Migration to UE5

We are currently working on migration to Unreal Engine 5. The outcome would be amazing, you can check it out following the link.





Level updates

The second thing that we are working on is level updates, not in terms of content, but in terms of optimization for Unreal Engine 5. Unreal Engine 5 has its tools to which we need to adjust the game.

In conclusion, we wanted to thank You for staying with us and we are sure that 2022 will be much more productive. We've hired new people to work on Lost Region and now we have new tools to play with.

Rise of Mavros - WAKANDA WAKANDA
This year has been both rough and joyful. I hope to see a bright future ahead for "Rise of Mavros" and many other upcoming games.

I wanted to call this a major update, however, considering that we have a big sales season going on, publishing this update as a major update can create a conflicting effect and reduce the chance of "Rise of Mavros" being discovered. I will be preserving my major update rounds (they are limited) for a bigger update and to a better date.

Here are the patch notes of the update:

  1. Tutorial is back. A more simple and easy-to-understand tutorial is now available. This tutorial focuses on the "main move-set" of the game.
  2. 3rd map boss can now attack from a longer distance.
  3. 3rd map boss VFX fixed. They were acting off.
  4. 3rd map boss can now heal itself.
  5. Lock-on - Idle transition blend problem fixed. The character moved strangely when the lock-on animation was canceled after an automatic enemy lock-on switch.
  6. The video settings menu problem is now fixed. Some of the video settings adjustments were only controlled by a keyboard. If you tried to adjust them with a mouse the adjuster lost focus.
  7. The forest creature in the 3rd map can now attack from a longer distance.
  8. 3rd map post-process problem is now fixed. The map looked like the contrast settings were broken.
  9. Jumping now drains stamina. This feature was requested a long time ago. However, I believed that it would make the game extremely hard. Now a lot more people seem to be requesting this feature, so I thought that we can give it a try.
  10. The skill that heals the player character when the 2nd main combo is performed, is now buffed. You receive a higher hp.
  11. AI dash-attack problem is now fixed. AI had an issue when performing a dashing attack. It stuck for about 1-3 seconds just before it hit you. It was caused by a feature that I was working on and for now, I changed this animation to a similar one until I reach a better point with the feature.
  12. Some people spotted a bug where you could exit the 1st map and run in an endless desert until you reach a point where you fall for a very long time... It is now fixed and you can not exit the map. I might start adding some easter eggs though!
  13. The backflip attack now has a wider radius. I strongly recommend it! Especially when surrounded by lots of enemies.
  14. We have a new Entrance scene.
  15. The character selection tab is now fully renewed. I hope it looks better :).
  16. I added 2 new character skins just for fun. This does not mean that I ended adding new characters. I have plans to add 2 more characters.
