EVE Online - EVE Online
Greetings Capsuleers,

EVE Online is turning 19 in just five months’ time, and we cannot wait to celebrate it with you in person in Reykjavík come May 2022. We want to set EVE up for a thriving third decade, and ultimately have it outlive us all. To achieve that – as you have heard about before – the last two years have been focused on three pillars; building a vibrant EVE ecosystem, helping new players out to make sure there are new untrained pilots coming in every month to join your ranks, and investing in the technical infrastructure of the game.

A New Dawn

Nearly two years ago we – both CCP and the players – began a massive undertaking: to bring the economy to a healthy state, and to set the game up for a third decade. We understand full well that it was not without challenges and hardships, and while EVE players are well known for being the most resilient problem-solvers in gaming, we’re aware of the strain it put on you. Now that order and balance has been restored to the resource and manufacturing aspects of New Eden, more resources have and will become available, and focus can be put on other areas of New Eden.

From Extraction to Production announced a bevy of changes. We typically don’t post updates as comprehensive, dense, and raw as we did with this blog (it was more a Dev Proposal & Discussion than Dev Blog) but with so much changing – and so much at stake – we wanted as much feedback on the changes as possible.

On that note, it has been a lively few weeks. We’ve been listening, discussing, and adjusting based on comments and responses. A huge thank you must go out to all those players who started conversations and provided constructive feedback on the forums, podcasts, blogs, streams, Discord communities, and elsewhere. We’d also like to thank CSM16, with whom we’ve been working with on these changes since August, for providing valuable feedback and context for the upcoming changes.

Mining is the cornerstone of New Eden, and mining ships across the board are now stronger, more efficient, and more accessible. We want to create the same kind of diversity for miners as the other careers and we are already seeing a large increase in both mining volume and numbers of players mining. This also opens up possibilities for the future, especially as it pertains to dynamic distribution or future mining sites.

Attention will be paid to production bottlenecks as they arise. Faction & pirate ship construction will be viable to undertake. For battleships, the approach will be to boost the power of those ships to be more in line with the cost and complexity associated with building them. Battleships hold a great spot in EVE's history, and we want to ensure they've got a suitable place in the meta for both PvP and PvE.

Areas of focus until Fanfest

It’s time to look ahead. New Eden has strong foundations, so now is the time to look at additions and improvements, rather than removals and revisions. Below you can find some highlights of the focus areas until Fanfest.

Compression

Since the early days of EVE, mining and industry has amounted to the following: train these skills, fly this ship, fit these modules and now you’re the best. Too often there was no choice because there was only one choice, and at odds with the rest of EVE, which puts a high value on specialization and different options. To that end, we want to ensure there’s a dynamic where industry experts can flaunt their knowledge and mastery of systems, and gain a competitive advantage so that their specialization and decision-making is rewarded.

Compression is a key element of industry, and expanding into gas & moon ore is vital for the economy. As with mining, industry-minded players will have more tools at their disposal. That said, our aim is to add decision-making – not tedium – and the compression update will reflect that.

Rorquals

During the Age of Abundance, a few hundred Rorquals were outperforming the rest of the universe combined in terms of mining yield. With the Rorqual being so efficient and powerful, it almost necessitated players to form larger and larger groups. It was simply the best at everything, with no tradeoffs, and was pricing players out of the market.

While the role of the Rorqual has been reverted to on-field support ship, its buffed Mining Foreman links, PANIC feature, survivability, and compression capability – tied with an impressive solo mining yield – make it a crucial asset for mining operations in Nullsec and Lowsec. And, as some of you may have seen on the Singularity test server, we are also considering improvements to Rorqual maneuverability with group-jump features.

Capitals

Whether you’re planning to fly them or build them, Capital Ships represent an aspirational goal for many players. A well-orchestrated ‘Dreadbomb’ should be a cost effective counter to other Capital and Supercapital classes, and we see time and time again the amazing fights that these create. As the industry changes settle, the material requirements to build these ships to ensure they are both cost effective and replaceable will be reviewed.

In addition, more capital-oriented combat sites are on the horizon, which you already may have seen a glimpse of in the Winter Nexus event. We look forward to working with the community in the future to make sure these sites will be rewarding enough to be worth the risk.

Citadels

Citadels play a critical role in New Eden and like anything have areas of opportunity. This entails citadel proliferation and combat, specifically targeting structure combat, tether and placement rules, with special attention paid to the roles structures play in the Faction Warfare warzones. Many of these topics were raised by dozens of New Eden’s most talented and prolific Fleet Commanders across all areas of New Eden, and with large undertakings like this, it is important to listen to all points of view.

Sovereignty

Aligning and improving sovereignty and how ownership is established across the universe is incredibly important, to both new players and veterans. The plan is to create tactical in-space objectives for small, medium, and large groups in space to fight over and allowing players who control space to decide what that space will be used for - with iHubs playing a critical role. Stay tuned for more.

EVE Academy

September was a great and an important month for EVE. The recently-introduced AIR New Player Experience (NPE) that launched in September is an engaging, cinematic experience, and already the average first session of people trying out the game for the first time has increased by 30%, which is leading to increased retention.

The next step will be to add a mining chapter in order to teach a core competency, give new players a taste of more things they can do in New Eden, and give them a fundamental skillset. As time progresses, the goal is to move further into a Capsuleer’s life and apply the same tech and artistry.

With the update to skill training and introduction of opportunities, we are helping players set goals early on in their EVE career. The newly released Corporation Skill Plans allow players to author optimal Skill Plans to get new recruits up and running, as well as create doctrine Skill Plans for combat operations, industry etc.

Furthermore, fittings are supported in the creation process so players without corporations can still tap into community power by dragging community fittings into their Skill Plans, starting training with a single button click. Additional acts of the NPE will fold updated Career Agents into the mix.

The EVE Academy website, which is seeing a lot of traffic every day, has been continuously updated since launch and has received an overhaul to make it even more beneficial for players.

EVE launched on the Epic Games Store in September and went fully native on Mac in October. Both of these avenues have seen an influx of new and returning players coming to play the game.

This adds up to more cadets that are better equipped for corporations to recruit, players to fly with, or spaceships to blow up.

Technical Foundation

The September release was a significant moment in time for EVE, with the introduction of Quasar. More and more features of the game are now being decoupled from Tranquility and moved into Quasar. Lost in the bright lights of the new NPE and tucked under the pixels of Skill Plans reverberates a fundamental change in how EVE Online moves into the future, allowing more power to go to the things you love; blowing up spaceships!

The technological advancements made by launching EVE natively on Mac are already contributing to internal development efforts to modernize the game engine. There will be more news on this early next year and we are excited to bring new capabilities and advancements to EVE.

Why is this important? Modernizing the tech stack of EVE is pivotal as it allows for more momentum and agility in a rapidly changing world. It also opens up more opportunities to expose more powerful features across more mediums, but more importantly it simply decreases the load on Tranquility, which in turn increases performance. We are in a perpetual arms race with the EVE community; as the tech behind EVE becomes more powerful, the Capsuleers of New Eden find ways to push Tranquility to its absolute limits.

For the last 19 years, the EVE community has set record after record when it comes to gaming’s biggest battles. We don’t see that changing any time soon and will continue to try and push the boundaries of what is possible when it comes to large-scale warfare.

In Closing

The foundations of the EVE ecosystem are strong. PLEX prices have stabilized, stockpiles are healthy, great strides have been made in the war against botting (as evidenced by the skyrocketing RMT ISK price), and there are more ways to earn a living. The foundation allows us to build with more confidence and add more sand to the sandbox. What players can expect from now on is an increase in ship production, capitals out in space, new exciting strategic goals for small, medium, and large fleets – and more.

Whether you’ve just started your EVE journey exploring in a Heron, or you’re a seasoned vet mining in a Mackinaw or brawling in a Vargur, there’s nothing that beats hanging out with EVE players. We’ve already had the good fortune of meeting players at EVE Vegas & EVE London this year, as well as chatting to the pilots at EVE Down Under. Nothing is quite like having hundreds of our closest space friends pile into Reykjavik for EVE Fanfest.

We can’t wait to see you this May for EVE Fanfest – either here in Reykjavik or watching at home on CCPTV - and share more about the exciting plans for the future of EVE Online; increased agency, making player actions matter even more, impacting how the world reacts to player interaction and how empires and alliances wage their wars.

Soldiers!

Winter holidays are around the corner meaning that it's time for festive events! In this publication, we are sharing the details of the event "Winter Fiesta" that is already available in the game.

About the event

"Winter Fiesta" is a large-scale festive event where you can take part and receive a themed skin, weapons and much more! The event is integrated into the game, so all tasks can be tracked and completed without being distracted from the game. The concept of the event is similar to the recently finished "Prison Break" with minor changes. To participate or view information about the event, you need to go to a special section in the lobby interface. The navigation panel is located at the top, next to the "Home" button, and is also duplicated by a special banner button in the lower right corner of the main screen.

What's changed?

"Winter Fiesta" retains the basic mechanics of "Prison Break" you are already familiar with. In the framework of the event, you will receive event currency for battles, spend it on crates in the event shop, and earn prizes. The event modes and maps will also change; thus, in the winter season, you fight only in PvP on themed updated maps. In addition, unlike "Prison Break", the new event yields three main rewards: the Crystal Karambit, the Crystal Grand Power SR9A2 and the OTs-14 Groza. You will be getting them one after another, and their value will increase as you accumulate reputation points. To sum up, you will be able to get even more cool weapons and it will be more interesting to progress in the event.

On what maps will we fight?

The battles take place on themed maps. We will add Xmas Hangar, Xmas Oil Depot and Krampus Town. The standard conditions of a team deathmatch are on. The winner is the first team to score 150 points or the one with more points than the opponents by the end of the match.

Krampus Town

We've reworked the familiar map to make landscapes more festive and cheerful. Snow, fairy lights, gifts, fireworks - now, the spirit of Christmas has become even stronger on the map. Hurry up to be the first to get the vibe of the upcoming holidays! But be on the lookout, hiding behind the Christmas tree, someone might want to spoil Christmas ...

Xmas Hangar

This is the winter version of one of the most popular maps in the game. Create a festive mood with a firecracker gunfight or a candyknife battle! The Hangar is a great place to enjoy the usual dynamic gameplay and to be a little wicked.

Xmas Oil Depot

This is a festive version of the favourite "Oil Depot" map with winter decorations. The holiday spirit permeates the map - the snow is glistening, boxes with gifts are scattered across the map, fairy lights are sparkling, a Christmas tree is blinking with its lights and solemn snowmen stand still as if guarding the scene.

Rewards of the Event

Main Rewards

The event mechanics are similar to those of the previous event. To receive the main reward, you will need to accumulate reputation points. In addition, there are three main prizes in Winter Fiesta - the Crystal Karambit, the Crystal Grand Power SR9A2 and the OTs-14 Groza. Now, the main reward scale features three elements. By reaching the first milestone on the scale, you will receive the Crystal Karambit, followed by the Crystal Grand Power SR9A2. And by filling the scale to 100%, you will get the OTs-14 Groza.

Other Rewards

In the "Winter Fiesta" event, you can get festive items, weapons of the "Valkyrie" series and cards for the crafting system. Hurry up to earn all the rewards!

Event Shop

By completing matches in the framework of the event, you will get a certain amount of the event currency. The amount of currency received depends on your results. In addition, you can earn it in special contracts or purchase it in the shop.

You can spend currency on crates. There are three types of them - ordinary, big and special. The special crate cannot be purchased, but it can be obtained by opening other boxes since the progress scale of the special crate is filled when opening a big or an ordinary box. The reward is determined randomly, and its value depends on the type of the crate. Some rewards can be received once, the rest can repeat. The special crate can yield a certain amount of event reputation points.

GameGuru Classic - Lee Bamber [DEV]
We've just released our final quarterly update for 2021 and continue our pledge of keeping GameGuru Classic bug-free. We once again assaulted the issues board on GitHub, took every report made since the last fixes update, and hacked away at them for you.

In addition to providing answers in the issues board, here is a run-down of the ones we slew:

  • Setting "allowfragmentation = 2" in SETUP.INI now sets g_PlayerGunCount to 0
  • Rocketman no longer shoots two rockets at the same time
  • Fixed Allied Knight animation issue
  • Specular maps now work with the terrain textures
  • Third-person players can now pick up ammo
Inscryption - TheDanman
At the risk of becoming a broken record: thank you so much for the massive amount of love directed at this game! This mini-expansion is in part an expression of my gratitude. I have received countless requests for an endlessly playable version of Part 1 that emphasizes Leshy's deckbuilding roguelike as a standalone experience. That's what Kaycee's Mod is, and a little more.

Kaycee's Mod is a free mini-expansion for Inscryption that hacks Leshy’s Cabin into an endless, and increasingly challenging, roguelike. Apply different skulls to your run to ascend the Challenge Levels. Reaching new levels unlocks new cards, challenges, and dev logs inscribed by the late Kaycee Hobbes as she uncovered the secrets on the disk.

How to play it...
  • To play the mini-expansion beta, right-click Inscryption in Steam, then select Properties. Find the Betas tab and enter the code “givemeascensionmode”.
  • Once you’re in the beta build, use the shortcut Shift+K+M on the start screen to unlock Kaycee’s Mod.
Once you're in...
  • Please report any bugs via the in-game bug report feature (accessed by pressing F11)!
  • If you’d like to discuss the new mechanics, debate balancing, etc. head over to the Daniel Mullins Games Discord and look for the #kaycee-mod channels.
What to expect as the beta progresses...
  • Balance changes.
  • 2 more Rare Cards.
  • 2 new Items.
  • A final encounter for players who clear Challenge Level 12.
  • The rest of Kaycee's dev logs.

WARNING! You may want to make a backup of your save file before trying this.
Ancestors Legacy Free Peasant Edition - mc
You've regularly been asking questions about Ancestors Legacy 2. In our minds it's a question of 'when', not 'if', so we haven't said our last word here ;)

In the meantime, however, we strongly recommend our latest game, which is cut from the same cloth. War Mongrels is strategy, tactics, and history in one. Plus, since many of you enjoyed Adam Skorupa's soundtrack for Ancestors Legacy, you can pick up his War Mongrels OST for free.

Grand Tactician: The Civil War (1861-1865) - Captain Müller (KGF)

Gen’l,

While we originally planned to have 3D troops in our game, during the early development phase the experiments with 3D models were unsuccessful. At that point, years ago, we decided to switch to 2D sprites, which allowed improved performance, and a working solution for the time being. After the game’s release in September, we ran another round of experiments with 3D troops, as we had planned to do post-release. This time we succeeded, and with patch 1.03 the sprite troops finally rest in peace, as our civil war soldiers enter the third dimension.

Smoother, and Better Looking.

The sprites did have many limitations. As we kept the number of different animations quite high, the number of frames per animation was limited. Also, customization options were limited, as each large sprite sheet reserved a chunk of VRAM. We did try to overcome the lack of customization by allowing custom coloring of the uniforms, but when creating variation within a single unit using color variation, the end result was not optimal. While functional, the sprite engine also had some side effects, like certain abrupt movements, which was quite apparent especially with courier movements.

Our artist has been working hard on the 3D models and animations since the release of the game. With the new 3D troop engine, the game’s visuals take a leap forward. Animations are much smoother in general, and the 3D soldiers allowed us some more variety in the soldiers’ looks. Now we can have different uniforms and equipment even within a single unit, with little to no negative effect in performance.

The 3D troop engine also allows further improvements in the future. The changes in patch 1.03 are the first step, more improvements will follow.

Other Visual Improvements.

While the main focus in the visual improvements was in the troops, the battle field has also received some other visual improvements. With the 3D troops being less sensitive to certain camera angles, the improved camera controls allow more varied visuals. Updates in the particle effects department and fog rendering also have made the battle field a bit more pleasing to watch, especially in combination with the weather effects. As the 3D troops are no longer “detached” from the environment, like the sprites were, the end result is a much more coherent look.

Other Changes.

While patch 1.03 was mainly focused on the introduction of the 3D troops, there are also some other nice, and highly requested changes:
  • 3D Troops: new 3D models, with improved, smoother animations & uniform variation.
  • New Battles: battle of Stones River and Champion Hill added to the list of historical battles. Also a new regiment level version of 1st Manassas added.
  • Saves: a new load/save panel to manage all saves, loading possible also during a game.
  • Options: realism options moved from game options to scenario start up screen, and saved per game.
  • Further game options added, including "lock battle camera rotation".
  • Occupied States: if all cities within a hostile state are captured, the state is considered occupied, even if it will not change sides due to low support. Armies with low readiness can operate in occupied states normally.
  • Updated Manual: manual and Field Book are adjusted to portray the recent changes.
  • Bug fixes and minor AI adjustments.

Howdy Tinkerers,

holiday season is running wild and while looking at all the crazy costumes implemented during the events and the cool armors you can find in the dungeons, we felt it is about time you should wear them:
Whenever you feel like, without having to compromise on the loss of stats you could have when wearing a different but not so nice looking set.
Therefore we’re introducing the Cosmetics update:

Entering the beta branch, you can try out the new update, no need to start a new character or world.
Whatever outfit you’d like to wear, just check your armor section and click on the new “vanity” slot icon in the upper left corner. This will open up the same equipment slots. You can use these to wear clothes for their looks, as they will overwrite the equipment’s visual in its corresponding slot but does not change the stats.

And since we know how much you love to decorate your environment, we thought it would be nice to show off your collected armors by putting them on an armor rack.

We’ll be back with some more news next week!

Have a nice Tinker-Tuesday,
The Tinkertown Team!

Hello friends! Due to the fact that many people are now forced to be at home in quarantine, we decided to add another Let's Play Together competition in the middle of the week. This is an experiment. There can be different crazy levels. There will be no prizes. Perhaps this will last only for the period of forced isolation, but if everyone likes this extra competition format we will make it permanent.

The rules are the same: log in to our Discord server, keep it running, play a competitive level, complete it with 5 stars and have fun!
Visit our Discord server (#lets-play-together channel) to learn more.

This week's level is
