Hello everyone!

Today we bring you some exciting news about our upcoming Species Pack! We’re happy to announce that our next species pack will be themed around death and should allow you to live death to the fullest! Check out the trailer below:

Necroids will feature:

  • 15+1 new portraits (the +1 being machine)
  • 1 new Ship Set

  • 1 new Advisor Voice


We wanted to add ships that had a more sinister or evil appearance, and I’m very happy to say we’ve made something really great. We’ll go into more detail about the ships, and give you a peek into the art process, in a future dev diary.

True to the theme, we wanted the portraits to revolve around death, but not look outright undead or decaying. We never intended the Necroids to be specifically undead, but rather themed around death. Similar to the ships, we will be doing a dev diary in the future to give you a peek into the art process, and also reveal all the new portraits. Stay tuned!

Regarding the other features, we have already shown you some of them, such as the Death Cult Civic and the Memorialist Civic. The remaining features will be revealed over the next couple of weeks, and maybe you'll even get to learn about Jeff. But for now, let’s pass the Mishar Cabal into our memories.

How’s your day?

Today we’re back with a new devlog!
In today’s devlog, we will talk about our beloved worker. We plan to make a few changes to the worker. What are the changes? Without further ado, let’s go to today’s devlog!

New Appearance
So, we plan to change the look of the workers. We got this idea when we saw the workers who seemed to blend in with the visitors which made them look like other visitors. Therefore, we had an idea to make a worker uniform. So it will be easier to spot them.





New Female Workers
Yup, we are also planning to add some female workers to the game. For now, the maximum number of workers you can recruit is 10, and they are all men. So, we are planning to replace 5 male workers with 5 female workers later. We want to deliver a fresh and more diverse impression with the addition of this female worker.



Apart from the two things above, we also made some adjustments to the existing animation such as the tree cutting animation, the water filling animation, and we are also preparing to add a new capability to the worker called cleaning the pond.





We are still working on these changes and also there are several feedbacks from the player regarding worker system and management that we need to discuss internally and try to prototype it. We hope everything goes well and we can show you this soon.

Hi there, DUDES!

Is this thing on? This is HYPERSTRANGE, the Poland-based sweatshop working on POSTAL: Brain Damaged for you, under the gloriour leadership and direction of Vince, MikeJ, Rikki, and the rest of the Running With Scissors team. Since the States and Poland are separated by the ocean, and the virus is preventing RWS to fly over here and hurt us, we'll be taking charge of this section of the PBD page. (What'cha gonna do about it, Mike? Send some more angry emotes over Discord?)

First point of disorder for today - freebies. After the announcement a whole lot of you tweeted, emailed, myspaced, and telegraphed both RWS and us about that Bisley-styled artwork serving as PBD's temporaty cover. You said you wanted it tin high-res. HERE YOU GO.



Secondly, a shameless plug. We won the trust of the RWS team with our ELDERBORN, a FPP brutal melee slasher (think Conan meets Doom and gets busy while Dark Souls is watching). Our debut game has been getting lots of praises from Steam players (nearly 90% positive reviews), but - while channeling 90s classic shooters like Quake, it wasn't a shooter itself. And yet - here we are, making a POSTAL boomer shooter spin-off.

Today, we've released CROSSBOW: Bloodnight, a small-scaled, frantic score-attack FPS arena shooter, as a way of introducing ourselves properly to the shooter fans crowd. And we're practically giving it away for the first week, at $1.99. You'll find a banner for it in the POSTAL: Brain Damaged Steam page. Try it, it's fun. Civvie said so.

GAMEPLAY

NOBODY'S PERFECT
Songbird round 3: Fight! - This stubbourn NPC has truly bamboozled our poor QA team. Appearing fixed each time we ship, just to then misbehave. We can now with confidence say that "Yeah, Songbird definitely improved since the last update but-"


DESERTED NO MORE
When sliding against a specific wall, you could, against all reason whatsoever, wiggle your way between collision geometry just long enough to push through into the vast expanding desert and glitch through dunes to your hearts content. But no more! We think it best if you didn't wiggle into the desert to die.


SAUSAGES IN ODD PLACES
Please proceed with care, as you can never look at sausages the same way. There is no going back from here:

There is a sausage at the centre of the universe

No, really. There is only one sausage per level and it teleports around on demand. If not needed it is set to return to 0/0/0 and go invisible... Something that did not happen if you saw it lying around randomly in moats.

"If Foster doesn't have his sausage out it should be hidden from the level, but yes there is always a sausage. You just can't see it sometimes." - Matt, Sausage Scripter, numb to jokes

The sausage has now been realigned with reality.


GRETA SEE YA
If a character is in dialogue they are coded to look at the character they are in dialogue with. They will move their eyes a little, sometimes adjust their head when they're sitting. Nothing crazy, just enough to keep immersion.

So.. turns out kneeling is a little too crazy.

RECYCLING CRUSHER
You could re-activate the Security Droid whist he was in the crusher.
He didn't mind and stayed quite chipper but it almost made it worse. - Luke



JOEY BEING DIFFICULT
What else is new?
You can ask a robot to clean, but will he do it?
The answer is yes, he should, and thanks to a very elegant fix he now also will.

EMBER & THE DEET
When Ember is trying to help you on her test bench odds are that you want to see what she's doing and block her from accessing where she needs to go, so Ember gets confused and stops.
This was very bad news because her accessing the work bench is needed to progress organically.
We fixed it by slapping a cutscene on it. You would have never noticed. Smooth ;)

FOSTER GLITCHING INTO MUSEUM FLOOR
We talked about Unreal Engine's NavMesh before.
All across the world, invisibly, is a NavMesh, and on it we mark locators that tell an object (like Foster) to walk there. These locators are also used for cutscenes.
Most times the command checks for a floor, and then aligns the object to be placed on said floor. Not this time. For some reason Foster got stuck abs first in the Museum floor.

"It was definitely not an issue with someone getting the coordinate numbers wrong again." - Andy, programmer, innocent angel whomst we love

Foster has lost all automation privileges for this level and is now made to walk to the location manually. That'll teach him.


JOEY INTENSIFIES
Some of you mentioned they saw Joey vibrating. We found the issue!
There were 2 commands Joey was trying to observe:
1) Move [somewhere]
2) Turn around and look at Foster
Joey, despite wanting to, went to the marked location, but kept vibrating in disgust as he was made to consistently look back at Foster.
We've told him to never look back in anger.


PIAZZA NPCS ON LOWER LEVELS
Where no player must ever go, the NPCs are roaming free of the bounds and rules of mortal society.
In fact too free..
In fact oh no...

It won't have affected you at all, but it was a massive renovation of realigning the NavMesh, cleaning up and redesigning collisions, and overall revamp of the environment. No wonder the NPCs were confused. We hope they will love their new Piazza levels!


EPIC SCRIPTING VS ANIMATION SHOWDOWN
Charming as can be, Reginald often moves his tablet from hand to hand to scratch his head and wave his arms enthusiastically. This action would often lead to his tablet glitching out and acting possessed.

To not have to add movement to the tablet itself, it is common practice to "socket" items into character hands, meaning the item adjusts to wherever the hand goes. Easy! Except when both the Scripting team and the Animation team had commands for Reginald's tablet. Then it would, understandably, become possessed.

We had to remove one and you might wonder who won:

"No one won, I think we just picked the one that worked better" - Sooch, Technical Artist & Animation Lead

"Animation won big time! I'm not a sore loser but I did lose" - Matt, Scripter


GAME CRASHED AT SPECIFIC ENDING
Surprisingly had nothing to do with the ending itself.
Blueprints works through visually displaying text boxes that are tied together by a string. If you move them around, they will still stay attached.
Now, imagine you tried to switch 2 boxes around. You'd need to visually change their position, and then properly retie them so they wouldn't just be dragged out of place, strings still attached!

You should definitely not do that and then create a NEW string link to the box you just changed places with.
That would create an infinite loop. :)
And we all know what computers think of infinite loops (:


INTERFACE

KEYBOARD MAPPING HAS ARRIVED
Sick of the WASD tyranny???
Due to popular demand you can now just change it.
Nothing too fancy, but a little can mean a lot to some of you. Take it for a spin, see what you think!


MORE RESOLUTIONS!! COMPUTER! ENHANCE!!
This one goes out to all you wide screen users!
The game's default range is set to 85 degrees, and now lets you adjust the ranges anywhere between 80 - 110 degrees! We hope this will work for up to 21:9 displays.
Please note that this affect the game & player controlled camera only. Our cutscenes will be played with black bars to suit the range they were recorded in originally. But it has a very western feel to it, so there is that!


UNDER CONTROLL
All elements should now be smoothly interactable with controllers alone. No more backup mouse. Get outa here mouse!!
We also tidied up a lot of issues UI related surrounding the controller, but all you need to really know is that it should work smoothly now!


MINOS TERMINAL
The Bonsai App now responds appropriately
There was a weird conflict involving Bluetooth controllers and navigating the MINOS interfaces around Graham's Apartment, but they have all been addressed and fixed.


SHADERS
Smoother than ever! Heck yes!

Balls Royale - Enignum


Update 1.53

  • Bug with balls sometimes clipping through board was found and fixed
  • During Switcharoo power-up balls are moved towards center a little bit so after rotation is over ball won't be INSIDE anyone's base
  • Multiplayer menu and Singleplayer menu layouts changed a little. Color pickers are bigger now.

    Mobiles:
  • Max frame limit disabled
  • Ad banner shows only in menu and not in game... It was supposed to be like that from the beggining ;)

We've wanted to scream this from the rooftops for a long time, and today is the day we can finally say it... RuneScape is coming to Steam!

As you read this, we’ve just hit the publish button on our Steam Page, making it official. We can also confirm our launch date: October 14th, 2020 (oh the emotions!). 

RuneScape is a game like no other - a deep and engaging living world that is welcoming and accessible, filled with the many beating hearts of our incredible players. You are the citizens who bring Gielinor to life.  

To many, RuneScape is more than just a game or an escape. It is a place to form friendships and relationships (marriages, even!) or be part of something bigger, like the buzz of a Lumby Crater event. RuneScape, in so many ways, is defined by the experiences we have with one other as we share our adventures, quests, years of boundless mastery and achievements together. We believe this is a world with so much more to give, and with many years ahead of it yet to unfold. 

As we look to the future, we are not just committed to improving the world of RuneScape but also to making sure that beating heart of the game - the presence of players - is as prevalent as ever. To do that, we're setting out on a new mission; bring RuneScape to new places, find new adventurers from new locations, and make RuneScape a more accessible, more cross-platform MMORPG that you can enjoy anywhere.

That journey begins with our arrival on Steam. It brings RuneScape, one of the world’s largest MMORPGs, to one of the world’s ultimate gaming destinations. It connects us to a huge new community of PC gamers that we can appeal to for the very first time. Together, we can welcome them and show them just what RuneScape and its community have to offer.  

We won’t stop here either - we will continue to work with our partners to bring RuneScape everywhere we can, and to make it more accessible than ever. You will see us integrate with alternative account services, on new platforms and become available in different stores. This is all about offering new ways to access RuneScape and appeal to new communities of players.  

We also know that reaching new audiences makes modernising RuneScape, scaling our operations and improving accessibility are even more important than ever before. I am asking the team to double down and focus on these areas to better support the influx of new players we'll be welcoming together over the years ahead.

Our mobile launch is likely our next big step on this journey. While we have many testers today, before we unleash RuneScape fully into the greater world, we want to make sure we take the essence of RuneScape and allow it to sing as best it can on smaller devices.  

This means improving the early game experience, onboarding and readability, and optimising our UI – from refining text, content, interaction and hitbox sizes, to engine improvements and stability that support flexibility across the widest array of possible display sizes. While some of this work will be focused on making the mobile experience the best it can be in these areas, much will improve the experience on whatever platform you choose to play on.

This work will set us up for a stronger launch on mobile that keeps more players around and provides a better experience for everyone. While we were on track to deliver this in 2020, this additional work pushes our mobile launch to 2021. We know so many of you are super excited for the full Android and iOS release, and we hope you will understand this additional wait to make sure we kick this off from a much sturdier starting point. 

After that, our mission to keep bringing in new adventurers and deliver on the cross-platform MMO vision that will continue to unfold. We can't wait to tell you more about it all... in time.
