We have already done a lot of work on the project and we want to inform you about current status of development and to introduce basic features of our game. We believe that all interested gamers should know as much as possible about our game. The feedback from you will help us to make it better at the earliest stages of development.
We launch Developer Briefings to share with you what have already been done and our current process – what is in progress.
Bellow we are going to raise some issues for discussions with community and we will appreciate players’ feedback.
Cold War Game in our perfect world is a simulator of combined arms operation. In this briefing we will describe classes of units involved in battles. This is one of the most requested topics by our community. Okay, here we go!
Developer Briefing #1 - Introduction. Troops.
In our Cold War Game we want to implement a realistic simulation of combat interaction of various types of troops in a division/brigade scale. That means you issue orders mainly to units of division subordination and below, all the way down to particular combat squads and crews. In our game, we divided all the troops into the following categories:
Below we give you more details about each category and its role in our game.
C2 - Command and control vehicles.
C2 - is a mobile headquarters of regiments and divisions. They can be: armored, unarmed, tracked, wheeled and flying. In our game they capture key points, improve some characteristics of other units. Loss of last C2 leads to an immediate defeat. As a rule, C2 units are the most expensive for deployment.
In literature we found various abbreviations and names for such vehicles, among which: CMD, CV, C2, C2V, HQ, Command vehicle, Command and control vehicle. Which one is the most correct in your opinion? Please comment below!
Tank
Tank - this group includes various tanks: light, medium, main battle tanks, amphibious, airborne, etc. This is really a major group of units in our game. They can successfully fulfil various military tasks: force a breach, recon, ATGM launch from hidden positions. Tanks are not very effective without support units usually.
Infantry
Infantry - is the main type of units for fighting in urban and countryside areas, forests, mountains. Infantry squads can solve the whole range of military tasks in close combat. The infantry squad with a portable anti-tank rocket system is to destroy enemy armored vehicles, primarily tanks.
The infantry squad with a man-portable air defense system is to destroy flying targets
The operational intelligence is to target acquisition at the front line
The long-range recon squad is for spotting and detection of the high-profile targets behind enemy lines
The assault troops and engineers are good for fighting in the city
All infantry in the game is motorized. Each infantry squad has its own transport.
Recon
Recon - here are the reconnaissance units. Here you can see military equipment which is able to detect and identify enemy targets. Please note that a recon tank will present in both Tank and the Recon categories.
Support
These units support other units on the battlefield. In this group you can find infantry fighting vehicles (IFV), anti-tank and anti-personnel equipment and all units that support tanks and infantry in combat.
Artillery
Artillery is a group for artillery units. Artillery is capable for long-distance indirect firing. It helps facilitate attacking units by destroying or neutralizing enemy forces. Various self-propelled guns (SPGs), howitzers, mortars and multiple launcher rocket systems (MLRS’) are grouped in this category.
Air Defence Units
They are divided into two types: self-propelled anti-aircraft guns (SPAAGs) and surface-to-air missile systems (SAMs). Each of them has its own features related to radar and guidance systems. This group of units is highly effective for destroying flying targets.
Supply - ammunition support units
Units of this group are to supply ammunition by transport. They can be wheeled, tracked, flying. Fuel consumption is not taken into account in our game, because it is assumed that one game session is one-day battle. Fuel consumption within a few hours of combat seems rather pointless and we decided to give players more space to focus on more interesting things related to tactics.
Helicopter
This group includes transport, attacking, observation and supply helicopters.
Closed Beta
In a week or so we are going to launch of the next phase of the closed beta test. Many of our potential players have already responded and subscribed in beta-testing thread of the forum and very soon everyone will have a chance to get a beta key.
Shortly we will prepare a beta-test application form, so everyone can participate. Your experience in wargame genre, military-historical interest and desire to take an active part in further development of this project are good grounds to be selected in beta-testing.
Your game experience will be key selection criteria.

It's been a wild few months: new enemies all over the Outlands, stomping and strutting all over folks' territories and causing all sorts of mayhem. We Outlands types are nothing if not adaptable, and we've made do, even if we do have to gear a bit differently or run for it when we're overwhelmed – or even, in my case, start traveling with Handsome Jim's much-less-handsome (and decidedly worse-smelling) brother, Smuggler Pete. Pete knows his way around a warbow for sure, and also knows how to loot and gather the good stuff and get it back to Caerleon without anyone lifting it off him.
Me, Jim and Pete were heading back from a particularly good Morgana lair, heavy with loot and artifacts and some sparkly enchanted hides we'd gathered along the way, when one of those flying spheres comes barrelling at us. We dodge out of the way handily and land a few blows, and the thing flies into pieces. No trouble there. So we round the hill, and there's another, flying right into Jim and knocking the wind out of him. This one gives us a bit more trouble, but we dispatch it and head on our way.
Then another, and another... and another! Soon we saw the source: a big hulking statue, made of some sort of white metal, spitting the things out one after another. We braced for a fight, swigged our potions, and laid into it.
With a flood of the little round guys to deal with on top of this tough-as-nails statue thing, we settled in for a longer fight. We had to manage our energy, hit the thing when we could, and protect ourselves from the swarm. Finally, after an intense few minutes, the thing collapsed into pieces, and we raided its remains for that sweet glowing energy.
II. The Colossus
Spoils of war in hand, we made our way through the wilds of Mercia and back toward the portal. Beneath the clip-clop of my horse's hooves, I thought I could hear some sort of deeper sound – like a steady booming – but I dismissed it as the result of one too many knocks to the head in our fight with the statue.
Soon it got louder, to the point that even Pete, who's deaf in one ear and half-deaf in the other, could hear it. We hopped off our mounts, and we could feel it in our bones – boom, boom, boom. This was something new. We drew our weapons and peered from the trees into the clearing, and once again, had no words for what we were seeing.
It was some sort of machine, powered by magic, huge and lumbering, stomping around like it owned the place. Say what you will about those creepy mages, at least they stick to guarding their energy crystals. But this thing... it was just wandering, looking for a fight. Almost as if it were scouting.
We kept our distance and managed to give the big, stomping lunk the slip by taking a wide route around it, and soon enough we were back at the Caerleon portal. But as I stepped through the shimmering ring and onto the hard stone of the Caerleon streets, the sense of safety and well-being I usually felt was gone. In its place was a new unease. No, stronger: a tremendous sense of foreboding, as if Caerleon itself were under threat.
Since then, we've heard reports of these things all over the Outlands. Folks say the ones in Mercia are especially aggressive – almost as if they're on the lookout for weaknesses. I fear this will come to a head soon. How can we hold back a force of such mindless might, such unceasing energy?

Stay tuned for the final Outlands Report in the coming weeks.
Hello, someone might have experieced a boring issue: sometimes Chico gets stuck giving you no choice to move him around.
We worked on a solution and the problem should be fixed for everyone, but unfortunately we had to change the saving system which is no longer compatible with the old one, and for this reason you need to reset the game: you can do it by using the reset button in the game option menu or removing the file sav.txt in the folder C:\Users\"YourUsername"\AppData\LocalLow\1Monkey2Brains\Chico\.
Many thanks to "kernelsandirz" for giving us valuable feedbacks that help us fix the issue.
