Two Point Hospital - lauran.carter

Heya Scrubs!

Lauran here with another update on what's definitely becoming THE GREATEST PLAYLIST IN THE HISTORY OF PLAYLISTS… right?! Guys…? Right….?

Anyways, you can find our playlist here: https://open.spotify.com/user/lauran_carter/playlist/1pglj8O3UfZayO95vXunvl?si=VWAE0-rYTFCXaWnk3kddtw

And here are a few words from the team giving a little more insight on their song choices…

Craig, Brand Manager - Ben folds: Army.
One of my favourite piano rock tracks! Originally played with his band, Ben Folds Five, but like many of the Ben Folds songs (Rocking the Suburbs aside), actually better on its own as a piano and vocal piece. Check out the live version where Ben replaces the horn orchestra part with commands to the crowd, who respond beautifully. Also, the Ben Folds Live album cover (everyone flicking him the bird) is awesome.

Rich, Coder - Mansun: Six.
After the recent launch of Paul Draper's solo career I've been relistening to some of my favourites from Mansun.  The album Six is kind of a crazy rock opera, and you have to be in the right mood for it.  Legacy is one of my favourite tracks.

Ben Hymers, Coder/Founder - New Young Pony Club:We Want To.
Awesome beat and fun melody and instrumentation. Same reason I pick most tracks really!

Chris Knott, Animator - The Midnight: Kick drums and red wine and Sunset.
“There is a Japanese term: Mono no aware. It means basically, the sad beauty of seeing time pass - the aching awareness of impermanence.
These are the days that we will return to one day in the future only in memories.” And because they are f*cking awesome.

Mark Smart, Artist -
The Damned: Look Left.
A first album of  new material in ten years. Evil Spirits boast many a 60’s Psychedelic influenced tune I had to pick one so here it is.

Skinny Lister: Tragedy in A Minor
Catchy folky pop from Deptford based good time Charlies.

David Byrne: Gasoline and Dirty Sheets
Ex Talking Heads leader back on form with an excellent new Album.

The New Basement Tapes: Golden Tom, Silver Judas
One of my favourites from the ‘supergroups’  Bob Dylan collaboration. Features Elvis Costello on vocals so that makes it ‘super’ for me.

Prem, Artist: Alannah Myles: Black Velvet +
Two Steps From Hell: To Glory
Because they're good ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jayne, Office Manager/Legend -
The Weeknd: Call out my name
Kate (my daughter) got me into The Weeknd. We're always listening to her playlists in the evenings (sometimes my playlists but usually hers!!!) in the car on the way home, which is always such a nice time together when we catch up with what we've each been up to for the day. 😊

Stone Roses: Waterfall and This Is The One
R.E.M: Nightswimming

As for the Stone Roses - I've always liked their music- was a shame they broke up so early.

Jo, Producer - Bloc Party: Banquet
The Killers: Somebody Told Me
Everything Everything: Kemosa

This week I've been listening to a lot of some of my old favourites, they always make me smile :)

Mark Webley, Founder - Arcade Fire: Everything Now
It's a brilliant track from an incredible album which everyone should play frequently!

Lauran, Community Manager - N.W.A: Express Yourself
I've been catching up on a whole load of Ice Cube and Dre for an upcoming Calligraphy Rap Lyrics project I want to start, and of course that lead to me revisiting some N.W.A!

Rainbow: Since You Been Gone
I sang it at Karaoke recently and haven't gotten it out of my head since. TUNE!
Star Shelter - Tarzan

When Wardens Fall - peernetgames
For the past month we have been hard at work putting some finishing touches on the game. One area we’ve been really focusing on is our new player hub, the Entrance. Players can use this room to experiment with their potions, poisons and flasks; try out some of their favourite weapons found in previous dungeon runs; open treasure chests; and start new dungeons.

Learn all about the different components of The Entrance in Devlog #7 ...

When Wardens Fall - peernetgames
Alchemy involves the collection of magical plants and the creation of powerful potions, vials and flasks. In When Wardens Fall players can collect plants by exploring the environment purposely, or simply stumbling upon them.

Players can then visit the alchemy station found in the Tavern. When you are close enough to the alchemy station your alchemy bag will fly to the table and reveal all the plants you have collected.

Train Sim World® 2020 - DTG Cryss

Introducing Train Sim World: West Somerset Railway, the next expansion that brings a festival of horsepower to an authentic recreation of Britain’s longest standard gauge heritage railway – coming soon!

Proposals for branch lines in and around Somerset were quickly discussed following the completion of the Bristol and Exeter railway in 1845, many competitive options were put forward, prioritising both freight off the Bristol Channel and tourists visiting the West Country from the likes of London. Ultimately, none of the early talks culminated in new tracks being laid.

The concept was taken more seriously some 10 years later, with a few ideas floating around for a railway to Watchet, a then-major port, connecting with the main line to Bristol and Exeter. The planned lines would be expensive to build and challenging to traverse, Isambard Kingdom Brunel was brought in to advise, and he found a route connecting Watchet and Taunton via Williton. Construction began in 1859 and trains were running roughly 3 years later.

Before the initial line had even opened, official word on an extension to Minehead was sought after. This was eventually granted and the new line was opened in 1874. Mostly a single-track railway, a passing loop was instated at Williton so traffic couldn’t block the line, and more would be added, such as at Crowcombe Heathfield, as traffic continued to rise.

One big change had to happen however; built to Great Western standards, both the line to Watchet and the extension to Minehead were of the 7ft ‘broad’ gauge as designed by Brunel. This was not adopted as standard throughout Britain, and so the entire line was converted to standard gauge in 1882, over a weekend!

Some of the most radical developments happened during the West Somerset Railway’s time under Great Western operation, most of which was simply to increase traffic capacity and length of trains as the area quickly became popular with people looking to get away from the big cities. Track duplication, larger stations, extended platforms, more passing loops, and to attract tourists, camp coaches at Blue Anchor and a new swimming pool at Minehead.

However, the story does not follow this trend beyond nationalisation, British Railways saw the closure of signal boxes, engine sheds, and what must have been the final straw, Norton Fitzwarren station, the gateway to the West Somerset Railway, was closed in 1961. Efforts were made to keep the line popular, including the opening of a Butlins camp at Minehead, in 1962, but the line couldn’t be saved forever.

The Beeching report of 1963 recommended the line for closure, and freight was soon withdrawn after that. Passenger services met a more gradual decline, eventually ceasing in 1971 and being replaced by a bus service.

Immediately, talks were underway about how to preserve the line, and the feasibility of running it as a heritage route. No less than 6 years later, the overgrown trackside scenery had been cut back, and phase-by-phase, the West Somerset Railway slowly re-opened to historical traffic, becoming the longest standard gauge heritage railway in Britain. The most recent developments for the line included a new turntable at Minehead in 2008, and the reconstruction of Norton Fitzwarren station in 2009.

Train Sim World: West Somerset Railway recreates the 23-mile heritage railway from Minehead to Norton Fitzwarren, and it’s a special occasion, as the expansion represents the WSR as it would be during the middle of its annual Diesel Gala: local residents D1661 and D4107, BR Class 47s and 09s respectively, lead the way, hauling Mk1 coaches under sunny skies across stunning scenery!

Keep your eye out as we bring you more on Train Sim World: West Somerset Railway, coming soon!

Worlds Adrift - Bossa Julia
Greetings Travellers!

Exciting times lie ahead with our imminent launch into Early Access just on the horizon. As we said in our post about our Founders, Worlds Adrift has got to where it is because of your passion, your creativity, and your commitment. Out of the hours of playtime, we’ve seen so many of your stories float (geddit?) to the surface that have inspired us, made us laugh, or genuinely scream “WTF! That’s so cool!”, and now, we want to share these stories far and wide (so yes, these will be used to help advertise the game).

We’ve done some similar things before, but now we want to it a little differently.

This time, we want you to send in a short clip of you recounting one (or more!) of the four subjects below:
  • Your favourite moment to do with Worlds Adrift (in-game or out of it)
  • The moment that made you want to keep playing
  • What being part of the early community has meant to you
  • Why you’re excited for what lies ahead

These clips should be between 30 to 90 seconds long, but feel free to send in a longer one if you can’t get everything across that you want to! We’re not looking for anything professional, either. You can do this on your phone, webcam, whatever is best for you!

If you prefer, you can also send these in as just voice recordings (preferably with any relevant in-game clips).

Everything should be sent to community@bossastudios.com with the subject line: “My Stories!”

The cut-off for these clips is May 10th, but the earlier we get these clips the better!

Include Your Postal Address (if you want to), because everyone who sends in a video or voice recording will receive an exclusive Worlds Adrift Early Access Announcement shirt that we took to the London Games Festival. That’s right you - yes YOU - can wear a piece of never-to-be-produced again Worlds Adrift history!

Also include your preferred choice in EU size of L or XL. Add a belt and you get a sweet little dress (as demonstrated by Tish)!

We can’t wait to see what you send in!

And as always, see you in the skies!

This project has been in the works since 2016, and thanks to a kickstarter and a ton of support from all those alpha and beta testers, we're finally closing in on that ever-elusive Early Access point. After we hit EA in July, we hope to have an even wider array of testers, and then we'll be ready for a highly-polished 1.0 in October of this year.

Be sure to go in and wishlist it (and get anyone you know to do the same) if you have any interest in this, because otherwise you might miss those two release notifications when they do arrive. We can't wait to see you in there -- and for now, the massive original game, which we now refer to as AI War Classic, has hundreds of hours waiting for you. :)
