As you’ve read in the weekly Battleplan that releases every Thursday, it should come as no surprise that we’re continually working to improve Battleborn, with six hot fixes and two major content patches already deployed. We’re hard at work developing the Season Pass content. And, yes, we’re constantly listening to our fans, developing many community-requested features such as a Broadcaster Mode and in-game reporting. So, what’s next?
Today, we’re sharing our current work calendars so you can see what content you can expect in the future. This is just the first of hopefully many updates about the on-going DLC development efforts. Our goal is to release or announce new content every other week, starting in July. Please keep in mind that much of this content is still in development. This means we can estimate to the best of our ability to give you a timeline, and we’ll be as transparent about that as we can be, but there’s always a chance that some content may get pushed out a little later than anticipated. What’s important to us is that you know what to expect and can get ready for the next big update.
There’s a lot in the works, from continuing to balance and improve the game through weekly hot fixes and larger content patches, to the release of more free heroes, competitive maps and modes, premium Story Operations, and other DLC throughout the coming months. Your feedback is invaluable to us and we look forward to sharing more Battleborn content with you as development continues.
Here’s a look at what’s coming to everyone who owns the game:
FREE DLC CONTENT
5 more heroes, bringing the total to 30
Alani – released May 31st, 2016
Pendles – coming soon in July
Three more heroes to be revealed in late Summer through the Fall
Three new PVP Maps in the next couple of weeks, one for each mode
Broadcaster Mode coming hopefully next month
Broadcaster mode will allow you to spectate the battlefield using a set of third-person camera controls to follow players on either team, jump to points of interest, or to move freely around the battlefield in Private Versus Matches.
In-game Reporting, our goal is to include it in the next major patch update for July
In the interest of making it easier to report players who are trying to ruin the fun for everyone, we’ve created an in-game reporting function that will be accessible through the scoreboard and allow you to flag players who are suspected of cheating, abandoning games, or ruining the overall experience.
Matchmaking Adjustments: Ongoing
We regularly adjust and tweak matchmaking parameters in order to keep improving the matchmaking process. In fact, we’ll be testing out an overhaul to the matchmaking system starting later this week.
Hero Balancing: Ongoing
As we gather data from matches and mission, we’ll continue to adjust and refine hero balance in the game. You can expect a bigger adjustment to 24 of the 26 characters likely coming in the next couple of weeks.
Lore Challenges: Upcoming major patch
We are working on adjustments to lore requirements as well as how those requirements are tracked.
New PVP mode this Fall
Another new PVP mode in late Fall or Winter
Weekly hot fixes as well as regular updates and patches
PREMIUM DLC CONTENT Premium DLC content includes DLC packs 1 through 5, each with a playable Story Operation and unlockable skins and taunts, as well as early access to heroes 26 through 30 with the use of a hero key.
Premium DLC Timeline:
Alani early access with hero key started May 24, 2016
Pendles early access with hero key in mid-Summer
Each DLC Story Operation release includes new, unlockable skins and taunts
DLC 1 Story Operation “Attikus and the Thrall Rebellion” coming late Summer
Heroes 28 – 30 early access, each with a hero key, coming mid-Summer through the Fall
DLC 2 Story Operation around late Summer
DLC 3 Story Operation coming early Fall
DLC 4 Story Operation coming late Fall
DLC 5 Story Operation coming this Winter
The first DLC Story Operation features Attikus and his twisted recount of the thrall rebellion he led to overthrow his Jennerit oppressors. Each DLC Story Operation is a highly-replayable scenario featuring one of Battleborn’s heroes. Each time you play through an Operation, the story, enemies, and objectives will change, increasing the difficulty but also the rewarded loot.
Along with each Story Operation comes new skins and taunts that can only be unlocked through playing the Operation. Each set will include skins and taunts for various characters and will not be available to purchase individually in the Marketplace.
Additionally, Season Pass holders will also get early access to heroes 26 through 30 with the use of a hero key. Each hero’s early access period will come with a hero key that can be used on the new hero, or any other locked Battleborn. Hero keys bypass challenge or credit requirements for unlocking heroes.
THE BATTLEBORN MARKETPLACE The Battleborn Marketplace offers players the option to use earned or paid in-game currency to enhance their game experience without affecting gameplay. The Marketplace houses a variety of in-game content, from Loot Packs, bank pages, and new heroes that can be purchased with Credits earned in-game, to premium cosmetic skins and taunts that can be purchased with paid Platinum currency.
We recently introduced Platinum to the Marketplace, a premium currency that can be purchased through the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store, or through Steam Wallet in-game. Platinum can be used to purchase cosmetic skins and taunts that are not available to unlock or earn as dropped loot, or pick extra bank spaces or Loadouts.
We plan on revealing more premium skins over the coming months and we’re exploring convenient ways players can boost their XP and credit earnings with Platinum that do not affect gameplay. However, these features are still in development and we’re looking to your feedback to help guide those decisions.

We adjusted (increased) the length of the arms and claws based on both community feedback from the first showcase, as well as development request in order to do what we want with this creature.

It’s time to dust off your Hero Deck and slide the Apprentice, Squire, Huntress, and Monk back in! The Power Up update boosts the original four heroes, finally making them as powerful as true サイヤ人 -- err, we mean, the Abyss Lord and Series EV2. But it might be hard for them to keep up since this update also introduces the new queen of DPS, the Gun Witch!
Looking for someone with a Gun Witch? With the new Game Browser, you can see a list of every game being played, and you can create custom game names to find the players you want! The update also includes many rebalanced passives and weapons along with our very first Armor Set for you to discover. Oh, and did we mention this gear is now distributed across a variety of maps? We think it's time to go create a “FARMING FOR 4/s Armageddon” lobby.
Our heroes are powering up this July! Stay tuned this week for the patch’s release date, but in the meantime, read on for more details about the Power Up update:
With a passion for witchcraft and a touch of gunpowder, we’re proud to present to you… the Gun Witch! Using Broom Power, a magically regenerating resource, the Gun Witch has no need for blue mana and can use all her powers at will. With abilities and witchcraft spells, the Gun Witch can fly from spot to spot, hovering in the air as she snipes enemies on the ground. Meet the Gun Witch in the video above for a full overview!
Hero Buffs
It’s time for the four main heroes to get a boost! These updates will bring the original heroes to Abyss Lord and Series EV2 power level. When the patch comes out in July, you’ll be able to check out all the nitty-gritty details in the patch notes. Here’s a preview of some of the notes: RPG PATCH NOTES.
We’re buffing the Apprentice to increase the damage viability of his defenses, giving him a tankier Arcane Barrier, and drastically reducing his ability cooldowns so they’re fun to use frequently.
We’re making the Squire a more viable melee and ability power fighter. We’ll be making both of his blockades sturdier and increase the damage of all of his defenses. We're also experimenting with removing root motion, so you can move and attack at the same time.
We’ve modified each of the Monk’s melee attacks to make his polearm types more unique. We’ve also boosted the damage output of his damage dealing towers and boosting ability of his Boost Aura.
We’ve reduced the cooldowns and increased the damage on many of the Huntress’s abilities. We gave all of her traps a substantial damage boost and modified the Poison Dart Tower so it’s more effective on the battlefield.
Game Browser
We’ve made a ton of changes to how you play maps and create games in the Power Up update! With the new Game Browser, you can now see every game being played. No more jumping blindly into a game hoping to find other players! Use the map, mode and difficulty filters to find the open games you want to play, or create your own. Entice players to join you by adding a custom name to your game. With the minimum iPWR filter, you can make sure the right people are joining your games. Based on your feedback, we’ll add more filters and settings to make sure finding and playing with other players is an enjoyable experience.
We’ve also restructured the game into three game modes: Campaign, Challenges (previously called Incursions), and Onslaught. All of these modes are unlocked from the beginning. Each mode now contains the following difficulties: Normal, Hard, Expert, Insane, and Nightmare I - IV. Thanks to your Influence Vote, Normal and Hard are both unlocked from the beginning, and the other difficulties unlock as your heroes’ level increases.
Passive Updates
Since we’ll be powering up the main four heroes, we also wanted to do a balance pass on many of the passives and legendary weapons in the game. In many cases we have combined passives that previously appeared on many items to a single passive that rolls on a single item. These new items will be guaranteed drops on specific maps.
Our end goal: The ability to target farm the gear you need to make your heroes awesome!
Summer Sale
From now until July 3rd, get 50% off the Molten Master Bundle! The Molten Master Bundle includes the Abyss Lord and the Molten Master costume. The bundle is available at the Create Hero screen in-game.
