Autonauts is a game that builds on the labour of your love, from resource gathering and crafting to world-building and automation, you get back what you put in!
Since Autonauts' release over two years ago, it fair warms the cockles of our hearts to see the game championed by such a passionate community of inventive and productive Autonauteers. Thank you so much for your continued support, not only for the game but for each other on Discord, Reddit and, of course, Steam. We're honoured and excited to carry on building with you into the future!
There is, however, one thing you can't program Bots to do – and that’s to cast your vote to nominate Autonauts for the “Labor of Love” category in this year’s Steam Awards!
We are also happy to announce we are offering Autonauts at 50% off throughout the Autumn sale, please find out more at this link.
Hello Autoneers. We're still hard at work on the new Survival mode and progress is sure and steady. We know you're all keen as mustard to get your hands on it but unfortunately we still can't really give you a release date yet. Sorry ːsteamsadː In the mean time we thought we'd share with you some of the QOLs that have improved the Autonauting experience in the original modes. These will be released at the same time as Survival.
Bot Database * Shared scripting added. Multiple bots can subscribe to the same script and all will receive subsequent changes. * Pressing B will now access the bot database, if it's available. * Uploading a new script or renaming an old script will autoscroll the list to the new script. * Data Storages can now upload/download directly to the database. * Hovering over a script name will now show a preview of the script. * Bot scripts can now be appended to using CTRL-click on the Download button in the Database.
Signs: * A new tab was added for easy sign management. * Signs can now be added to an upgrade slot. * Signs that are being held can now be selected in Area Edit. * Shout Sign Name button added to Sign Edit panel. * Pressing Z while sign is an upgrade will shout the Sign's name instead of "Go!" (if we're not holding something else that reacts to Z). * Settings option added to allow Signs to always face the camera. * Sign Edit options merged with Area Edit options.
General changes * Search areas now don't get cropped to visible plots. * When a bot uploads a Crude Storage the target bot will now autostart the new script. * Bot List filter added (active, broken tool, dead etc). * Clicking any instruction in the pull-out tab on the brain now adds the instruction to the end of the script. * Clicking If/IfElse with some instructions highlighted will now auto-wrap those instructions into the If/IfElse. * Multiple cameras added. Use numpad 1-5 keys to change between them. * Right ALT key now works. * When a building is moved, any bots moving to that building will change course to the new location. * Bots now routefind on paths/roads properly.
Bug fixes * So many bug fixes!
So, lots of improvements to the Database and Signs and plenty of general upgrades to make automating easier and more fun. Hopefully this gives everyone something to look forward to, even if they don't want to fight in Survival

Meanwhile, Aaron and I are still working hard on finishing off Survival Mode. It's fair to say there's more to do than we expected: a lot of unexciting but essential things like the presentation of information, but mainly resolving many niggling design issues and side effects. The main thing is, we're getting there :)
This week we added the first of the five 'boss' characters, namely 'Long Bot Silver'. To meet (and hopefully defeat) this ruby-eyed cutlass-rattling bag o' bones, you first need get them out of their hideaway (an old lighthouse), which means overthrowing relentless mechanical minions - and demolishing Pirate Barracks to halt production of said relentless mechanical minions.
Long Bot Silver controls a Twine Factory, which doesn't sound particularly exciting until you realise it's the only place to get essential string-making technology to manufacture slings and unlock ranged weapons. Without those, your units won't be taking out any flying Pirates any time soon, that's for sure.
Indispensable defence technology hoarded by the later bosses includes pitch (surprisingly useful sticky properties) and ultimately the game-changing combo of pesticide, fertiliser and charcoal.
The free Survival Mode expansion (which, TBH, is feeling more and more like 'Conquer Mode' every day) will be released... Well, as soon as we can possibly manage!
Stay safe! Stay Autonauty!
Gary and Aaron
My team of Serfbots and Warriorbots are launching an automated attack on Long Bot Silver's Twine Factory. I'm on the left, at the back, holding a Banner and following my sledgehammer-wielding Sapperbots (blue), ready to demolish the outpost's barriers and take out the Barracks creating more Pirates inside.
Avast, ye scurvy 'naut! Prepare to feel the wrath of the ruby-eyed cutlass-rattling Long Bot Silver, keeper of the key ingredient to ranged weapons, locked away in their lighthouse.
We have winners! But no chicken dinners, not when we have awesomer Autonauts merch to give away.
Thank you, all who entered, for taking the time to make and share your mods.
As the votes came in, it was a heart-racing nail-biting bottom-clenching close-run thing for a while, but in the end one entry edged ahead to become the clear winner: "Folks are not animals" by Skrommer. Congratulations!
Plus! One lucky voter also wins an Autonauts Clockwork Collectible and Branded Ceramic Container. And they are... Anonymous for now while we wait to hear back from them to confirm their identity :)
With thrillicious Automerch up for grabs, we challenged you to make an Autonauts mod, upload it to the Steam Workshop and tag it 'Halloweencompo'. Hearty gratitudination to all who made their mark!
Now it's time for you, Autonauts Community, to do your part and vote for your favourite 'Halloweencompo' mod. Remember: not only does the author of the winning mod get an exclusive Autonauts Clockwork Collectible AND Limited Edition Beverage Encasement Module, so too does one lucky voter!
Voting will remain open until midnight on Sunday the 8th of November. We'll announce the two winners the following day!
BTW, if you use one of your saved games to test out these mods, be careful that you don't inadvertently save over them with any changes made :)
Oh! Almost forgot to mention: Autonauts has been updated to v137.14.9 with all the latest mod features required to use these new mods. The change log is HERE.
When he's not creating code to make Autonauts work, Aaron loves to construct more tangible entities, like these unique Autonauts Collectibles.
HOW cool is that!? Well, YOU CAN WIN ONE in this exciting new competition! AND an Autonauts mug (cos clockwork toys aren't the best vessels for hot beverages)!
To enter, all you need to do is create a Halloween-themed ANY Autonauts mod (just so long as it's not been entered into a previous Autonauts competition) and upload it to the Steam Workshop. Oh, and make sure you use the tag "halloweencompo" in your LUA script, so we can find it :) You can submit as many different mods as you like, but please don't make anything offensive.
We recommend using the latest Beta version of Autonauts, cos that's got more moddy goodness inside, thanks to a sterling effort from Discorders Psylem and nateandkate.
The competition closes at midnight GMT on Tuesday the 3rd of November 2020. This time around the winner will be chosen by you, the Autonauts Community, via an online voting system. In the event of a tie, Aaron and I will cast the defining vote.
Best of all, not only will the winning entrant get their own Mk 2 Bot Collectible and Limited Edition Autonauts Mug, so too will one lucky voter drawn at random! Whoop!
Good luck!
Wait, how do I use the Beta version of Autonauts?
Right-click on Autonauts in your Steam library.
Select 'Properties'.
Select the 'BETAS' tab.
Use the dropdown to choose 'super_secret_beta_fun'.
Select 'CLOSE'.
After a brief update, you will be using the Beta version of Autonauts.
To revert to the latest public release, select 'NONE - Opt out of all beta programs' instead.
