We seem to have a focus on content this week while adapting to all the major changes from the Constructions.
This week, weβre:
π β Texturing 5 new Weapons π² β Revising Lindworm Concept Art π₯ β Designing an Explosive Type of Helthing π β Implementing Gate as Free Construction π β Iterating on the AI to adapt to Constructions πͺ β Animating Spear & Knife Attacks for the Player π β Continuing revamping the Procedural Generation Logic πΏ β Continuing implementing the new Grass System to all Biomes π¨ β Fixing various issues for Map, Crashes, Fog of War, Projectiles and Movement π β Researching visuals for Constructions/Village, progress meter for Bastions and more
Talking about constructions, what would you like to be able to build in the game in the future?
Let us know! π It's something we're currently working on, so we'd like to hear what you'd eventually want to see.
And if you haven't seen it yet...
We've added in some new elemental, explosive jars, and though we haven't revealed their in-game use just yet... just know that with great power, comes great responsibility. More on that soon!

It's the best place to be for when the game opens again, as we'll make sure to ping you when we have news! You can find also find teammates, throw in game suggestions, and hang out with a pretty cool group of people.
January has come and gone, and it's time for our monthly recap. Big things are happening! What exactly, you ask? We're here to let you know!Β π
While the game is currently closed, we want to keep you in the loop about all the features we're working on! We're moving full speed ahead on Tribes of Midgard - and can't wait to show you the next version of the game.
Here's a recap of some of the biggest things we're working on:
βοΈ Construction system: place walls, towers and ramps! π A third Giant, whose form may surprise you π Revamping the Village layout π Preparing procedural generation for new mechanics πΒ Level Design of the Dark Elf Bastion π Modelling the Gates of the Dark Elf Bastion (which require a key to open) π Updating enemy movement so that they can run further in the world βΊοΈ New Camps in the Land of Pools βοΈ Research on Hot/Cold Gauges π New Armor set, shields, and weapons
Our third Giant's form is a little different from anything you've seen so far! And with the addition of some different types of Camps (the ones that include doors and keys) there will be new points of interest to check out all over the world.
We'll be sharing how everything is looking, starting February! Make sure to follow us on whichever platform you use most to catch it all π
We don't have a release date to share just yet, and we had our last Open Beta in December. However, we're planning at least one a Closed Beta before we head to release.
For now, be sure to Wishlist our game on Steam! We also post weekly updates there, and it'll be the first place to find out any Closed Beta news.Β
Yes... we go outside! Julian (our CEO), Sydnee and JP (our community managers) hopped on a few planes last week to embark on an important quest (we can't say anything more) - but exciting things are coming! We also visited Demo Night Montreal, which is an awesome event hosted to show off new upcoming games.
And, while we haven't released Tribes of Midgard just yet, you can still be a part of our Gamepedia. The Wiki's being filled up with game information and lore, thanks to the Wiki Team in our Discord! Honestly it's quite awesome to see the team work on this project, and it'll be handy for when the game's open again.
We're also so happy to see you're enjoying the gameplay we post on Twitter! We love sharing the sneak peeks and look forward to sharing even more.
And that's it for our January recap! There's much in store, and we're so glad to have you as part of our tribe. We're eager to open up the gates again. Hope you had a great start to 2020!
We are progressing on the work from the previous week but we are also starting some big changes in the world exploration. This includes creating some Camps (Elf Bastions) that will have Gates, that require a key to unlock.
This week weβre:
π β Revamping the Village Layout Logic π β Revamping the Procedural Generation Logic πΉ β Improving current Giant Attacks for all Giants π β Continuing Level Design of the Dark Elf Bastion π β Modelling in 3D the Gates of the Dark Elf Bastion πΏ β Continuing on implementing the new Grass System π β Designing AI with new Movement Patterns & Behaviors π’ β Implementing Free Construction with Walls, Slopes and Grounds π¨ β Fixing various issues for Controller, UI, Crashes, Modules & Materials π β Researching various features for Hot/Cold Gauges, Events & Season Changes π β Texturing/Modeling in 3D the Lindworm Creature
What's a Lindworm? Glad you asked. It's a legendary, dragon-like, serpent-like monster with claws. It won't be flying around Midgard though, as it's wingless, but you can bet it's going to slither around the Land of Pools in the future. Adding more creatures to the world is part of continuing our the quest of making Midgard feel more alive. Here's some of its original concept art (we'll be showing its final form very soon)!:
Talking about exploration and environments, what kind of Biome would you like to see in the game later on?
Tell us which one(s)! π
In case you haven't played yet, we currently have 5 Biomes:
Last week, weβd been talking about different changes that would affect the game experience and we're on a roll!
Another aspect of the game that we're working on is making the world feel more "full"- this is one of our focuses this week along with new weapon spells. We've been working on new Camps to add to our swamp biome, the Land of Pools.
This week, weβre:
πͺ β Designing the level of the Elf Bastion π β Modelling in 3D the Gate of the Elf Bastion πΏ β Exploring new Grass system to create Props π β Updating AI to be able to chase Players further π β Preparing the opportunity to port the game in Consoles βΊ β Continuing on finishing the Small Camp for the Land of Pools π β Animating new Spells for new Weapons like the Baldurβs Revenge π¨ β Fixing various issues for Passwords, Modules, Customization and Logging π β Researching various features for Village Layout, Blessings and Hot/Cold Gauges
Is there any weapon spell you wish to see in the game later on?
Let us know which ones! If you haven't played the game yet, our weapon spells are based around elemental attacks, so for example, a Dark skill would come from a Dark sword, and its color would be specific to the element (Dark = purple). When fighting, you'll also find opposite elements have better damage against each other, so if you're fighting our Fire Giant (HΓ logi) you'd definitely want to pick up an ice weapon.
Here's how the Dark Whirlwind looks for the Lindworm Sword:
And the Thunderstorm skill for Ymir's Eyelash sword...
If you're curious and want to read more about all the weapons in-game and each of their skills, check out our Wiki, which is community-made and still expanding!:
Onward and into our second week of the year, we are preparing to do some minor (and some drastic) changes to the game.
Here's what we're up to this week:

By the way, is there any game convention that you want to attend this year?
Tell us which one(s)! π

Happy 2020 everyone! Hope you had a great holiday season, and enjoyed some time spent relaxing (and of course, playing games). We're jumping right back into development, and we're taking some time to evaluate our next objectives.
