Yes, you read that right! Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya, the father of Cave Story and Kero Blaster will judge the games of the finalists this year too! The finalists will receive personalised feedback from the jury!
Also, to give you more time to polish your game, we have decided to extend the submission period to Feburary 28th 23:59 JST. Last year, some games were made in a few weeks or days and reached the finalist stage, so take your chance!" Please keep in mind that a good proof of concept or demo is more than enough for participating in the contest.
Hi all, We announced it last week, and now the Database Beta Update is finally here! We have released an update for the branch "1.0.5-database"
If you wish to use the latest Database Beta Version update, please select “1.0.5-database” from the Beta tab. We strongly recommend you to back-up your projects before proceeding to the update. The default branch remains branch 1.0.4.
But that is not all! As we understand that the Database Function can be a bit hard to use at first, our power-users Joe, Baz and Justus have prepared some help for you! The update includes a new sample project featuring two mechanisms, one showing a puzzle mechanism and one showing a level-up system.
Baz and Justus have recorded videos to explain the Database, and you can find them here: Baz tutorial (English with Japanese subtitles) Justus tutorial (Simplified Chinese) (The tutorial will be released in a few hours)
With the release of the Database, we have achieved a milestone that will allow you to make deeper, more complex games. It is very exciting to see how you will use it! However, please keep it mind it is still in Beta at this time and we are working hard on the final version. In the final version of the database, we plan to facilitate the creation of plugins. And as usual, if you have any questions, you can find us on the Steam Forums, the support mail address and Twitter!
Another announcement, we have a new free DLC: UNIVERS2020.
Finally, as the year ends, we would like to wholeheartedly thank you for your support in 2020. Everywhere in the world, 2020 has been a tough year, but we are so proud of what the PGMMV community has achieved! Some of you have released a game, signed with publishers, made tutorials, guides, videos, helped others, participated in Jams and Contests using the engine, given feedback and suggestions... it was a year full of learning and full of surprises!
Our Customer Support team will take a break from December 28th, 2020 to January 4th, 2021 and we will be back next year to assist you! Sorry in advance for the inconvenience, but please be sure that we can't wait to hear your feedback about the Database Beta version!
We hope that you are having fun with the engine, and that you will take some time during the end of year holidays to create some games! As you know, if you follow the development of the Pixel Game Maker MV, we are still working on improving the software. You can see our Development Roadmap here! In 2020, we have been working hard on the Database Function, and it is finally in a state we can show to you.
This Database Function will allow you to handle even more complex mechanisms in your games. We have preprared a sample project and tutorials in English and Chinese to help you master it quickly. The release of this beta version is scheduled for December 22nd, and we can't wait to hear your feedback.
Today we are releasing a DLC pack for Pixel Game Maker MV: the ""Weapon Assets (100 varieties) and Dot Robot Set""! These were previously only distributed together with the packaged version of Pixel Game Maker MV in Japan, but are now available as DLC!
The "Weapon Assets (100 varieties)" set is chock full of various weapon assets, such as swords, axes, and other melee weapons, as well as staves, bows, and more. The set even includes "Weapon movement: Basic data" so that it can be used right out of the box! Additionally, the "Dot Robot" project data is also included in the "SampleGames" folder together with the weapon assets. This pack contains the Dot Robot main character, robots, enemies, backgrounds, and more, which should prove quite handy in creating your own games. Don't miss this opportunity to grab all these assets in one reasonably-priced bundle!
We have also released two free DLC Music Packs, featuring music created by "Don", head of Japanese label "16dimensional Records"! These will be downloaded inside local files, so please feel free to use them as you like.
We hope this DLC comes in useful when creating your very own games!
Additionally, we are currently hard at work adding the "Database Function". We should have some new info regarding the Database Function around New Year, so be sure to keep an eye out! We hope you continue to enjoy game development!
