Cloudpunk - Ion
We just finished 3 exciting days of presenting the game at EGX Berlin on the showfloor.

For those who couldn't make it, we decided to add a stream to the store page with a collection of recorded scenes. So check it out at:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/746850/Cloudpunk/

We will keep this stream up for a day.

EGX was great to get feedback from players on the first 30-60 minutes of playing the game and would like to thank everyone who came by, played and gave us their feedback. It was a big help!

Cloudpunk - Ion
When development began on Cloudpunk back in the summer of 2017, it was just me working on various prototypes while our newborn baby boy explored his first months on this planet. Things were very uncertain and hectic in these times. All I knew and felt was the vision for the game I wanted to make. Later that year I began sharing glimpses of it on social media and the exciting reception by press and players alike was so very encouraging.

Since then I’ve been working full time on the game and began growing the team welcoming Thomas our writer, Harry our composer, Billy our portrait artist and Eloise our voxel queen. The art changed a lot and we were able to distill the gameplay to something we believe this game and the story needs.

I initially thought the game would take around 2 years to complete, so until around fall 2019. There are so many moving pieces and after the positive responses we received, we realized we had new ideas to explore. We now know we will need a bit more time and aim for release in early 2020. The coming weeks and months will make this goal much clearer and we can’t wait to announce a date once we know it.

We were lucky to partner with Maple Whispering to support us with the PC launch in Asia, a private investor and yet another partner who we can’t wait to reveal very soon. Now the team is growing even more with additional artists and designers helping to flesh out the world. We welcomed Roman, Rebecca, Sergey, Maryam, Kenze Wee, Gordon and Peter, some of which work full time and others half time. I’m proud of you all.

So, while things are still very hectic, they have turned much more certain and that’s wonderful. Our next stops are EGX Berlin and Day of the Devs, where demos will be playable on the show floor.

As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Cloudpunk - Ion

We have big news to share today. Cloudpunk will have its first public appearance on the showfloor of Tokyo Game Show next week. We've partnered with Maple Whispering based in Shanghai, who will support us with pr, marketing, additional funding and localization in Asia and made the Tokyo Game Show event possible.

The last couple of weeks and months have been crunch time for us, really. We've added so much new content to the game and had to deal with the many difficulties that come with that, such as performance tweaks, sound system redesign and much more. You can see the results in the trailer above, which features part of the new areas and one of the early conversations between two of the game's main characters - Rania and Control.

Let us know what you think about everything, we're happy to hear your feedback.
And if you're in Tokyo next week, come meet us in Hall 10 E27 to play the demo and have a chat.
Cloudpunk

I got my first look at Cloudpunk late last year and I loved it. I couldn't say what it was about, really, beyond a vague description about a driver for a grey-market courier company in a towering city of the future. But the mix of Blade Runner and pixel art looked, and sounded, so good that I was immediately transfixed.

Now there's a new trailer that reveals a little bit more about the game, in the form of a couple of Cloudpunk characters—Rania, the driver, and Control, who appears to be a slightly friendlier Louie De Palma of the future. There's also a shot of an interaction with an open-air diner, and a snippet of more overtly Vangelis background music. It's all very brief and still doesn't reveal much about the nature of the game, but I remain enchanted.

And we will be learning more about the game very soon. Developer Ion Lands said Cloudpunk will get its first public demonstration at the Tokyo Game Show, which runs September 11-15. Until then, you can find out more on Steam or the Ion Lands Tumblr.

Cloudpunk - Ion

Hello everyone,

Today I thought to give you an update on how things are progressing and show you a little bit of what's going on behind the scenes.

For those of you seeing this game for the first time, in Cloudpunk you play a courier driving around the sprawling city of Nivalis. On your jobs you will meet interesting, often whimsical, characters whose lives you will affect one way or another. Here are a few of them.

You will explore the entire city from the ancient, dark ground to the Spires piercing the thick layer of clouds that hides the sunlight.

What makes this game special is that we're creating everything with voxels - small cubes that form complex buildings, vehicles and characters. Here you can see a screenshot from MagicaVoxel, the free software we're using for all the voxel editing.

Exploring Nivalis you will drive, walk, discover hidden places, items and unlock the stories of the characters you meet. On your delivery jobs you will have choices, and these choices will have a lasting impact on the characters involved.

The story will be told entirely through dialog, which will come with full voiceovers. For each of the characters we do castings to find the right voices for all of them. This is the fun part in game development.

So right now we're working hard on fleshing out the environment. Building a city is no easy task and takes time. We hope you enjoyed these screenshots.
I'm sure you would like to know more about the release date. At the moment we can't be more specific. To sweeten the wait, you can head over to our Twitter, where I post short clips from time to time.

Talk soon,

Cloudpunk

Every now and then I run into a game trailer that grabs my attention and won't let go, even though it tells me very little about the game itself. The announcement video for Cloudpunk is very much one of them: It's about a driver for a "semi-legal" courier company in the towering, neon city of Nivalis, and holy cow does it look good.

I mean it literally looks good—the trailer is great, but I have no meaningful idea of what Cloudpunk is about or how it will play. Developer Ion Lands said players will explore the city in the hover car and on foot, encountering "corporate conspiracy, hackers and rogue AI," and a "diverse range of characters" whose lives will be impacted by your decisions and actions.

Ion Lands studio head Marko Dieckmann expanded on that a bit further in an email, saying that Cloudpunk shares some similarities with games like Firewatch and VA-11 Hall-A, in the way it tells a story and encourages exploration. There's a storyline to follow, "but you can also stroll around and discover hidden places, items, and people, which will unlock additional stories," he explained.

"The whole game is very story-driven, with exploration and has no combat at all. I wouldn’t compare it to any of the flying-car classics, because it’s definitely not going to be a racing game. We’re going for an atmospheric experience where the city and its inhabitants are the focus."

I won't say I've seen enough to be sold at this point, but I'm definitely intrigued. Cloudpunk is listed on Steam, where you can discover a little more about what's going on, and is expected to be out sometime in 2019.

I’ve had it with these punks. They keep strolling up to different genres and flashing them with their neon lights and messages about rampant consumption. The most recent culprit is Cloudpunk, an upcoming driving/walking/chatting simulator about delivering stuff for a dodgy company in a cyberpunk city, where you go round listening to the woes of “androids, AI and unscrupulous humans at every level of society”.

Come and coo at the trailer with me. There are some good synthy ‘shwing’ noises.

You go everywhere, from the Marrow below to the spires that pierce the grey clouds high above before scraping the edge of the troposphere. No delivery job is too dangerous, and no one is faster than a Cloudpunk driver.

In this story-based cyberpunk game, you will meet a diverse range of characters including androids, AI and unscrupulous humans at every level of society. Everyone has a story to tell, and in the course of one night in Nivalis, everything will change.
