Hey everyone, bit of good news, we've finally launched trading cards! I've been working on these personally for quite a while, and I'm excited to see them out in the wild.
You might notice that we have some special teachers there that aren't yet in the game. We didn't have time to add them to the game yet, but they will be there in the future. Consider this a sneak peek at some of the special teachers we'll be adding to the game.
I honestly thought cards and badges were silly, but after granting myself a full set (developer perks!) and crafting a badge, I can see how addictive it can become! Unfortunately I can't get the special foil badge yet, but here's a peek at the level 5 badge.
Hey everyone, this is our second hotfix in two days! We're hoping this will resolve cases where the game refuses to launch and where workers are still working slowly or acting funny.
Fingers crossed this fixes those issue for you guys, but if not, please do keep sending in those bug reports (with saves and output logs)!
NOTE: Any broken save files from BEFORE this hotfix are no longer repairable. You will have to start a new game. We're really sorry about this, but unfortunately this just happens sometimes with Early Access. :(
Hey Everyone, we're back with an update for the end of the month!
Last month we focused qite heavily on mods, having added Localization and the ability to upload your maps. This month for a change of pace we were able to come out with some new zones!
Music Room and Science Lab
We've added the Music Room and the Science Lab to the list of zones that you can now build. As with the other special rooms, students will use these rooms in their free time and earn additional learning points while they're using the rooms.
Some of you might think it's weird that students don't use the science lab during science class, and you're absolutely right! We're still building in the systems to allow students to use these special rooms during class time, and fingers crossed we'll have that for you very soon!
Build Phase
We're going to be making some pretty big changes to how you get new students in the near future, and we wanted to make sure you would have enough time to adjust at the start of the school year. So starting from now, you will have a build phase at the start of the year that lets you build out stuff before your students come in. When you're ready to start, click the "Start School Year" button as you did for your first year.
Bug Fixes:
-broken roads should now be fixed -adjusted accumulating of food crates so tha there is no overflow of crates -fixed issue where guidance counselor is not working -students "stuck" in a staff bathroom should now leave the room insead of being stuck. -fixed issue where a dismantled item disappears but workers keep dismantling forever
Known Issues:
Game Crashing on Launch: When starting the school year or when starting a new game, it will sometimes take a while to start on older systems. If the game looks like it's hanging, please give it a minute or two before shutting it down. This is something we will actively be working on to fix in the future.
Hungry Students don't go to class: Students will sometimes not go to class when they are hungry or if there are no sources of food like vending machines or cafeteria. The issue will fix itself on the next day or after a reload. Alternatively you can try building vending machines to alleviate the food problem.
Hey everyone, as previously mentioned we were also working on adding a localization mod tool to the game. This means that you can now localize the game into your own language and share it with other players that speak your language!
Click and drag to build multiple items
Before we get into that though, I want to mention that we also addressed something that folks have been asking for, which is to be able to click and drag objects when building! Okay, now that's out of the way, let's get to using language mods.
How to install a language mod
Subscribe
1. Go to the settings menu and click on the language mod. This will bring you the language tab in the mods panel (alternatively from the main screen you can simply click on the mods panel and click on the language tab) 2. The available language mods should now load and display in the panel. 3. Subscribe to the language that you like by clicking the plus button. Wait for it to download 100%.
Install
1. After the language mod has downloaded 100%, click on Subscribed tab on the mods panel. This will list all the mods that you're subscribed to, including the language mods found at the lower half of the panel. Note that you can only tick only one language at a time. 2. Click on the Apply button at the bottom of the panel. The game will ask you to restart the game. Click Yes.
3. On restart of the game, you should see a panel showing all of your installed mods. Click continue to play the game in your chosen language!
We need your help!
As you can see, we don't have many localization mods ready. We're already in touch with a few volunteers, but the more languages we can reach, the better!
If you're interested in making a localization mod, please check out the link below. It contains the link to our localization tools as well as a step by step guide to uploading your mods to the game.
We're aware of a bug where the roads seem to be broken or missing tiles. Someone cleverly referred to them as "potholes" This is something we're a little stumped by, so we hired some QA people us figure out how to replicate it so we can fix it.
tl:dr we're doing our best to fix it as soon as possible, but in the meantime your games should work as normal, just with ugly roads.
That's it for now. We're taking a break from working on modding stuff to get back to work on content for the game. We'll see you at the end of the month for another update!
Hey everyone, we're back with another update at the end of the month. As mentioned in the last update, content updates have slowed down because we're focusing this month on adding some more things for you guys to mod, fixing some UI issues, and designing for some larger updates in the future.
Upload your maps
This month we're pleased to announce that you can now upload your maps to steam workshop! We know this is something you all have been requesting for a long time, so we're happy to finally be able to share this with you. We're also looking forward to seeing your schools!
How to download a map
Map or school mods are just like any other mods in Steam Workshop. We just placed a separate section for such mods in the game so it's easier to locate them.
Instructions 1. In main menu, click on "Mods". 2. In Mods panel, click on the "Browse Maps" tab. 3. When you find a map you want to download, click on the plus sign to subscribe. The map will now be downloaded. 4. When the map has been downloaded, click on the Subscribed tab. 5. Find the map, and click on the check button next to it. Click on Apply. You will be ask to restart the game. 6. After restarting the game, on the main menu, click on the load game button. 7. In the Load Game panel, click on the Subscribed tab. You should now see your subscribed map!
How to upload a map
Uploading your school map to Steam Workshop is super simple, just follow these instructions.
Instructions 1. Start or load a game. 2. While in-game, click on the settings menu. 3. Click on the "Upload Map" button. 4. In the panel that appears, fill in the name and description of your map. 5. Click upload map, then wait for it to be uploaded to Steam.
Notes 1. You can only ever upload one map at a time per game session. This means that if you want to upload two maps while playing the game you need to first go back to the main menu, load up a game, and then upload a new map. 2. After uploading, a mod item representing your map should appear in the Mods panel. However, it doesn't apply right away so wait around 10 minutes to an hour. This item should also appear in the Workshop page of the game on Steam.
Testing out new grants
We've made modification to our grants editor to allow us to be a little more creative with the grants. First off, we're exploring giving you recurring grants that you can use if you want to make some quick cash or to challenge yourself by accepting delinquents into your school. These are the kids that other schools have given up on, can you give them a second chance?
UI/UX Improvements
1) Grants information now integrated into one panel to free up screen space 2) Start School button relocated and redesigned to be more visible 3) When cancelling unbuilt objects on unbuilt floors, the object should be cancelled first, before the floor (clicking and dragging to mass cancel removes all) 4) Added a couple of sound effects that hopefully increases your enjoyment of the game 5) Added a loading screen on start of school year and when loading games because black loading screen can be misleading. 6) Added a panel at the start of the school year explaining the basics of building for our first time players
That's it for this month. We're hoping to be able to add Localization Mods in the next couple of weeks, and in June we should have at least one new zone!
Hey everyone, another small update today. Some of you might have noticed that we are going to be at Bitsummit in Kyoto this year. We have been going to Bitsummit since 2013 and we love the indie and international spirit of this game conference. It's also the most easily accessible "big" game convention to us, since we live in the Philippines. Since Bitsummit is in Japan, we needed to work on Japanese localization so we can share the game with attendees. This week was taken to sort out any issues relating to localization.
For everyone else looking to play the game in their language, we are currently working on a localization and modding tool. We're hoping to release that by the end of the month so that the community can help translate the game into their language.
We're also working on adding an "upload map" to the modding options so that you can finally share your schools with the rest of the community. We're very much looking forward to seeing everyone's schools!
Hi folks, This hotfix (0.2.4) fixes a number of "black screen" issues. Anyone who has had those issue, please try loading your games again and see if the fix has resolved your issue.
For the disappearing UI issue, we've made sure hotkeys do not work when inputting in a text field. Worst case scenario, if you find an invisible UI in the game, simply press "H" to bring back the UI.
We've changed the way we do staff doors. Issue were created because players understandably used staff doors for offices, but this created issue with students not being able to use the doors to get out, leaving them stuck in the office and causing crashes. We still have staff doors, but to use them you need to click on a door and set the door permissions to staff only.
Other bugs:
Added a tab for garbage objects so they're easier to find.
fixed an issue with the custom logo icons where clicking on the left arrow of icon 2 changed icon 3 instead
Fixed an issue where mass canceling stuff did not give refunds
That's it for now, sorry for the trouble guys, but thanks so much for sticking with us and reporting the bugs!
Hey everyone, we’re super excited to announce that we’re releasing Academia : School Simulator Alpha 2! We’ve made quite a few updates to the game since we launched Early Access, and we feel like we’ve hit a milestone point in the development of the game. But first, here’s what we’ve been working on since the last update:
Subject Departments
Previously, teachers were assigned to a single class and taught all of the subjects. This was always meant to be temporary, and with this update you can assign teachers to a specific department that best suits them, and they will travel from class to class to teach. Teachers can now also be assigned to teach through all year levels, or stick to just teaching on year level, giving you more control.
Scheduling
Scheduling has been a major request since launch, and we’re happy to finally share it with you. Scheduling was more difficult than we had anticipated, and we had to make some hard design decisions about what made sense for the game. We didn’t want scheduling to be a chore, so a lot of it has been automated to give you the best scheduling outcome. However schedule customization is obviously important, so you now have the ability to control when each year level takes its breaks (lunch and recess). This way you can be more efficient about the use of your kitchens and canteens. You can also control how often teachers will shift between subjects, so you have control over how often teachers teach and take breaks.
Trash management
Trash used to never be a problem. Your one trash dumpster could absorb an infinite amount of trash bags before needing to be emptied out come trash time. This was never intentional, so now we’ve made it so that trash dumpsters only accept a limited amount of trash bags. Keep an eye out on your garbage area, because if you don’t you may end up with a huge trash problem!
New UI
We’ve made a major overhaul to our UI. Player experience with our previous UI was not the best, and we believe this updated UI is much better, with less strain on the eyes.
Added Sound Effects
We want the game to be as immersive as possible, and adding ambient sound effects helps with that. Scroll over classrooms to hear student chatter and toilets to hear them flush. Some objects now also have sound effects as well, click on them to see what they sound like!
Adjusted Teacher Subject Knowledge
We’ve changed the balance of the teachers so that they are much more specialized in one subject that they used to be, meaning you have to be more careful when picking out your teachers.
New Title Screen
It’s surprising what such a small change can make. Everytime I see our new title screen it makes me smile, and I hope you all share the feeling!
Customized School Settings
We updated our custom logo screen to make it more understandable, and have added the first of many customizeable school settings so that you can tweak the game to suit your playstyle. Choose from a coed, all girls school or all boys school. Decide how much money to start with. Do you want your students to be devils or saints? How often do you want to cope with sick students? It’s all up to you!
Now out for Mac!
We’ve gotten numerous requests for a Mac version, and it’s finally here! Fingers crossed there aren’t too many bugs!
Mass Cancel
A quality of life request that has been in our ears since launch! We're sorry it took so long, but you can now right click and drag to cancel a whole bunch of unbuilt stuff.
Cloud Saves
It’s one of those things that doesn’t seem important (until it is). We now have cloud saving so you can switch from playing the game on your desktop to your laptop anytime.
Art Room
We've added a new zone called the art room! students will use the art room in their free time for now, but eventually hey will start using it during their art classes. Our next zone will likely by the science lab,m so stay tuned for that!
Numerous Balance Changes and Bug Fixes
Game development is a never ending battle against bugs and balancing, especially in Early Access! This update has been trickier than the previous one because of all the changes that we’ve made.
That’s it for this update, but for those who have been holding off since we launched the game, Here are some of the major additions since launch:
Student Delinquency – students now exhibit a range of bad behaviors including bullying and rowdiness in class. School Monitors – catches delinquent students Guidance Counselors – counsel delinquent students Principal – Disciplines delinquent students and sends them to detention or counseling Detention Room – Delinquent students go to detention after class New Walls, Floors, and Decorative items New School Seal icons Faculty Lounge – Teachers now have a place to chill and drink coffee Prestige and School Ranking – can you make it to number 1 in the school rankings? Zone Merging – make your zones any shape you want! Janitor and Monitor Routing – Lay down routes to make your staff more efficient
IMPORTANT
This is a major update so your old save WILL NOT WORK. If you still want to play your old save you can use the outdated branch.
To access the Outdated Branch :
1) Go to your game library and right click on Academia School Simulator 2) In the pop up window, find and click on Properties. 3) In the properties window, click on the Betas Tab 4) Under Enter beta access code to unlock private betas type : academiaoutdated 5) Click on "check code" 6) Under "Select the beta you would like to opt into" click on the dropdown menu and click on "outdated" 7) You should now have access to the outdated build
Hey everyone, we're updating with a rare mid-month update here to add some bugfixes. We did get to add some sweet animations to the Common Area and Faculty Zone though!
Your Common Areas will now be much more alive than they used to be, and we will continue this by adding awesome animations to each zone to make your school even more lifelike.
Note : We are fairly confident we've fixed most gamebreaking bugs (fingers crossed!) so we're setting this to the default branch. If you are on the candidate branch from Build 0082, please switch to the default branch to play this build.
Bugs Fixed:
- Fixed a bug which slowed down opening of the year end school evaluation. - Fixed a bug in which students hang out during class hours.
