We hope you're excited about the next Flashing Lights update! We have some news for you today.

This update will bring all EMS callouts over to the new map, plus a fire department callout, and some new liveries for the ambulance. We know you are going to love it. However, we need your help!

We have made an unstable version of the new update available for testing, and we need loads of you to give it a try. With the missions having been ported to the new map, we need to make sure that the update goes through additional testing. So please jump into the Discord and head to the #announcements channel to find out more. We really appreciate your help!

The release will be dependent on what bugs you may find, but we are anticipating the full public release to be delayed until next week.

As we're asking you wait a bit longer for the public release, we wanted to give you a good look at the update itself.

EMS and Fire Department Callouts on the New Map

In this update we have ported all EMS callouts from the old map to the new map and made some adjustments. This includes motor vehicle collision, unconscious person, hit and run and gunshot wound callouts!

Hello all,

We hope you're continuing to enjoy Flashing Lights, whether it's with friends or alone, whether it's patrolling the city, treating patients or putting out fires! We're currently working hard on the June update, due towards the end of the month. If you haven't seen it already, take a look at our roadmap for the next few updates.

In September, we'll be adding callouts for all services to the new map - at this point, all functions from the original map will have been ported to the new one - and so we'll be removing the original map.

What we want to talk about today is some of the exciting new content that we have planned for late 2021 and throughout 2022.

What's Coming Following the September Update?

Here's some of the new content planned for late 2021 and throughout 2022!
  • New map area: Suburbs with interiors and callouts
[/b]
We're excited to announce that we're working on a brand new area for the new map: suburbs. This isn't just a nice change of scenery either. There will be new callouts designed for the suburbs - and yes... there will be some interiors!

  • Traffic stop update with vehicle search and drug tests
  • Rural towns with additional police, fire and EMS buildings
  • Fire system rework with spreading fires, hose system update, plus a fire engine
  • Police K9/Fire rescue dog
  • [/b][/list]

We will also be focusing on bug fixes. While we are excited to add new content, we will also be working on bug fixes and improving the quality of the game.

    Developer Livestream Q&A: 29 June

On Tuesday 29 June at 4pm BST/8am PDT, Nils Jakrins (600) and Tim Boss (RedPandaViking) from the Flashing Lights team will be going live on YouTube to answer your questions! Get your questions in now via the #q-and-a channel on the official Flashing Lights Discord, and then tune in to the live stream here on YouTube to see if they answer your question!

We're open to anything, whether it's about which department we most like to play as, or whether it's about our favourite pizza topping!

Thank you once again for your patience while we've been working on the new map! We hope that you're as excited as we are about the next steps.

Thanks for taking this journey with us.

    Hello all,

Updated Roadmap (May to September 2021)

We have updated and overhauled our roadmap for the coming months, and are excited to share it with you today!

As you will know, we ran into some issues with the previous update and released it a little later than expected. Because of this, we've had to reorganise the roadmap. Once again we thank you for your patience and support while we have been and continue to work on the new map, and we hope you enjoy today's roadmap reveal!

    May

In May we'll be adding a new vehicle which will be playable for all departments! We're also overhauling the siren sound effects for both maps based on your feedback. In addition we are updating the siren system, making it easier to use.

    June

In June we will be porting lots of the existing EMS and fire department callouts from the original map to the new map.

    July

This update will be focused on bug fixes, but will also introduce Greek, Hungarian, Norwegian and Slovak support. Plus, another new vehicle - we'll let you guess which vehicle it is...

Please note that following this update we will be returning to bi-monthly updates.

    September

In September the new and expanded map will replace the original map, multiple languages will be reworked and updated and there will be callouts for all three departments added to the new map.

There's plenty more to come too following the September update. In early June we will be sharing a little more with you for our plans for new content following the September update, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

    13 May 2021 Patch

We've also released a hotfix for the previous update which fixes a bunch of issues.

    Fixes
    - AI traffic could get stuck on intersections and not move when traffic lights were green
    - AI traffic could steer into objects on the side of the road or turn around right after spawn
    - AI traffic didn't react to sirens as they used to in old map
    - AI traffic stopped and got stuck when the player beeped their horn
    - Mission CAD could run into issues if used in first person
    - CAD active cards didn't show joined player IDs
    - Missions clear before arrival in multiplayer for client players when host did not accept the same call
    - CAD active card still displayed player IDs after they had left the server, leading to never ending callouts
    - Fixed an issue where calling EMS transport would not remove unconscious/deceased pedestrians/suspects for client players
    - Fixed an issue with pedestrians/suspects teleporting from last position for multiplayer client players when using Grab
    - Floating street lights adjusted in 9 locations
    - Fixed an error when putting away fire hose
    - Occlusion culling and NPC navigation re-baked due to street props position fixes
Flashing Lights - Police, Firefighting, Emergency Services (EMS) Simulator - James Clements

    Hello all,

Firstly, we want to say thank you very much for your patience. We apologise for the delay on this update, and really do appreciate the support.

Today's update brings traffic and pedestrians to the new map. Traffic AI has been revamped for the new map. We've also added new destructible props (news, mail and fuse boxes) and new static street props (fences, street lights, lanterns, larger fuse boxes).

Also on the new map, we've improved physics for clients in multiplayer - for instance, if you join another's game you will now be able to make contact with other vehicles. Additionally we've done some optimisation work for the new map, which should reduce the feel of lag for some of you - this is making use of a new technique which predicts where players will go in multiplayer ahead of time in order to reduce the feel of lag.

Read on for the full patch notes!

    Hello all,

Sadly we have had to move the March update back a little. We need a bit more time on the update, which will include pedestrians and revamped traffic AI for the new map, and now plan to release the update within the next few weeks.

However, we may be releasing early unstable versions of the update ahead of the public release - if you are interested in playing any potential early versions of the update, please join the Discord and keep an eye out for announcements there.

We understand that the delay is frustrating and disappointing for some of you, and it's never our intention to frustrate anybody. That said, we want to prioritise quality rather than pushing out the update prematurely.

We also have some new teaser screenshots to share, to help tide you over until the update!

Above you can see some brand new props which will be added to the new map in this update... and some can be knocked over when driving too (news, mail and fuse boxes). Also added will be more static street props (fences, street lights, lanterns and larger fuse boxes).

    Thanks for the support,

    Hello all,

Thank you all for your continued support. Flashing Lights wouldn’t be where it is today without your help. Today we want to reveal what’s planned for the next five months! But first, we want to highlight and give you a heads up on a couple things.

From March onwards we are moving to bi-monthly updates. To make sure we bring you updates of the upmost quality, going forward we will be dedicating more time to each update, allowing us to bring the quality to a standard we believe you will appreciate.

In July the new and expanded map will be replacing the original map. We will be removing the original map in July, as the new map will then be on par in terms of functionality and content (while also of course being better optimised than the original).

    March
    • New map foundations complete; Featuring pedestrians & revamped traffic AI
This month’s update will deliver pedestrians and revamped traffic AI to the new map, marking the point where the new map is functionally complete.

    May
    • Callouts for EMS & Fire on new map
    • New vehicle & overhauled siren sounds for both maps
In May we will be adding EMS and fire callouts to the new map. And for both the new and original map, we will be adding a much requested new vehicle, and overhauling the siren sound effects. This will also be the last update for the original map before it is removed in the July update.

    July
    • New Map Expansion; The new and expanded map will replace the original city.
    • Callouts for all services to launch the new map.
    • Greek, Hungarian, Norwegian and Slovak support
    • Multiple existing languages reworked and updated
In July we will be completing the transition from the original map to the new and expanded one. We will also be adding callouts for all services to the new map, and introducing support for Greek, Hungarian, Norwegian and Slovak. At this point, the old map will be removed.

We look forward to these updates and what lies beyond, and we hope you do too.

See you at the end of the month for the March update!
