Speaking of awards, we've got more exciting news: Stone Story RPG has been nominated for three awards at TIGA 2019! We've been put on the shortlist for "Creativity Award", "Best Casual Game", and "Best Role Playing Game", and will be in the running for a "Game of the Year" award as well.

Stone Story RPG - Martian Rex
Hey Stone Story fans,

It's been quite a week! After all the craziness of TGS (and winning four awards!), we're finally settled and ready to dive back into development.

In the leadup to The Yellow Update, we're rolling out patch 1.8.6. This update adds a hefty number of improvements, balance changes, and bugfixes to Stone Story. Of particular note are additional Stonescript commands, which our players have been using in the beta branch to mod some really cool cosmetics into the game! Pilot a mecha or drive a tank with the power of Stonescript.



Should you encounter any bugs or issues, please post them here on Steam discussions or in our Discord server (discord.gg/stonestoryrpg).

Patch note highlights:
  • The Triskelion can now be equipped for +1 Movement Speed


  • Added the Mutate workstation, which allows you to change rune effects, among other operations


  • Added the Knee Chopper to Caves of Fear


  • Added several Stonescript commands, such as ?debuffs.count and ?face
  • Added a toggle for Screen Flash in Settings
  • The Hatchet now has an activated ability
  • Updated several tracks in the OST
  • ... and many more fixes and updates!

Stone Story RPG - MintyFresh
It’s big. It’s yellow. It’s coming for you.



We're excited to announce that Stone Story RPG will be receiving its first major content pack: The Yellow Update!

The focus of this update is to further expand on existing content, introduce quality of life and convenience features, and increase the scope of User-Generated Content. Version 2.0 of the game will bring with it a host of new changes!

Here's what you can expect in the near future:
  • Yellow difficulty levels
  • Increased XP level cap
  • Minibosses
  • New Stonescript commands
  • More achievements
  • Updates to existing items
  • New crafting recipes
  • New enemies






We're happy with where the game is at right now, but it's short of the ambitious vision that we know Stone Story can ultimately achieve. The Yellow Update is the first of many steps towards that!

To that end, we have an upcoming patch (1.8.4) that will address several issues currently in-game, as well as add new improvements and features like the Triskelion as an equippable item and the Mutator Station!

Development will kick up as soon as we get back from TGS, which has been nothing short of amazing. In addition to the two awards that Stone Story won at Sense of Wonder Night, it also received a nomination for Famitsu's Indie Prize and won a Square-Enix sponsored award! If you're still around at TGS, you can catch us at booth 9-A-47.





It's been a long road to get here, but we're far from done. We hope you all look forward to what Stone Story RPG has to offer in the future.

Hello Spider Smashers!

We have some exciting news for all of you: Stone Story RPG has won "Best Art" and "Grand Audience Award" at Sense of Wonder Night 2019!





SOWN is an event at TGS that highlights the most innovative indie submissions. Among dozens of indie games, only eight were selected to participate, so this recognition comes as a huge honor! We're extremely thankful for the wonderful reception it's gotten so far at TGS. If you're around at the expo, stop by our booth in the indie game area (9-A-47) and grab a button while they last!



To celebrate TGS, Stone Story RPG will be on sale with a 20% discount until Monday, the 15th. Now's your chance to embark on an ASCII-animated adventure in a dark and mysterious world.

Stone Story RPG - Martian Rex
Version 1.4.0 is now live! This update focuses on stability and core improvements to the experience, with a few balance changes for good measure.

Here are the highlights:
  • Opening all treasures is now 48% faster!
  • Reworked how abilities are selected on the Anvil, so the player is able to control what they get during crafting.
  • Fixed problems that were causing some players to lose all their progress :(
  • 21 other bug fixes and improvements!

Stone Story RPG

Stone Story RPG has been in development for quite a while already—five years, according to developer Standardcombo. After a lot of updates on the TIG Source devblog forums starting back in 2014, it's finally ready for the world. It launched on Steam Early Access on August 8 and Standardcombo expects it to remain there for about a year, though it doesn't anticipate a price change between now and the final release. 

Stone Story RPG is built entirely in ASCII characters, largely black and white with occasional flashes of color. It has admittedly hit me in the nostalgia bone, bringing back memories of obscure online game guides with detailed ASCII text art circa 1998 or so. Stone Story appears to be not at all hindered by its choice in art direction, as the screenshots on its Steam page range from screen-filling fortresses to giant spider webs, and even a mushroom forest. 

Standardcombo's plans for the future of Stone Story appear just as ambitious as an ASCII-only visual style. The game is reported to take about eight hours to complete if you rush it at present, though there are plans for additional quests, items, and boss fight phases by its official launch. 

Most interesting is the quest system that Standardcombo has planned. The idea is for user-generated content to expand the life of Stone Story RPG's world. According to its Early Access Q&A, "we plan to create a framework for players to build their own stories and share them with each other."

That's not the end of the custom choices for Stone Story RPG, though. "Currently, Stone Story features an in-game scripting language called 'Stonescript', which players can use to automate and optimize gameplay," the Steam page states. "Additional commands will mean more strategic possibilities open up!"

With enough interested players, it will be interesting to see where Stone Story's plans for new quest content can take it.
