I have built a small "tech demo" that will be available for a limited time on The Coin Game Steam Store page. You will see a small Download Demo button on the bottom right hand side of the store page. I built a demo to give early arcade adventurers the chance to try a sample of the game before the full game drops on Feb 11th. Make sure to add us to your Steam Wishlist to get more info and be ready when it comes out.
The Demo includes limited test versions of the Cuckoo Coin Pusher and the all time classic SkeeBall. There is also a Ticket counter to tally up those wins. There is a few prizes laying around on the pallets to test your inventory system (Hold TAB for your smartwatch menu and Then center mouse wheel to cycle through the smartwatch menus 5 tabs until you get to the Backpack) .
Feel free to throw some prizes around and get a feel for the player controller. F Key will pick up the current gameobject you are hovering (If it can go in your backpack). You can even shoot stuff with your rubber band pistol. Change right hand tools with 1, 2, 3 KEYS and cycle between a flashlight, Rubber Band Gun and your Players Card. You can also cycle the center mouse wheel to change tools when you are not in watch mode or at a machine.
The demo scene takes place during the final filming of the games trailer. So you are kind of in the way of everybody and the security guard will let you know. Who cares though.... you have tickets to win! Just club that rent a robot over the head with your flashlight and start winning some fidget spinners.
Here are some screenshots of the Limited Demo. It's out now! So what are you waiting for? Don't forget to add us to your wishlist.
Mega Drop is a relatively new game in the arcade scene. One play involves timing the drop of a rubber bouncy ball onto a spinning game board and then filling into one of the winning slots to win the prize amount shown. Mystery wins, Jackpots and even a Bonus Ball round are the big prizes. The machine will tally all of your drops after the game is over. The Mega Jackpot value is usually pretty large but involves quite a bit of luck to hit the center platform pocket. I have only gotten one in 2 months of testing. I almost spit soda all over my monitor. haha.
Big Bass Wheelin is a simple game. Pay a buck to spin the wheel and catch a boat load of tickets. You dont even need bait. I was thinking of adding a bonus spin to the logic somehow but dont have any good ideas. Let me know what you guys and gals think.
Dunk-O coin pusher style arcade game with an added bonus wheel and 8 Collector Cards. I LOVE COIN PUSHERS. This is where this game all started. I built a few tests in Unity about 7 years ago now and thought one day I would love to build a room full of coin pushers to enjoy. Well I can finally say that day is here. Objective is to light all of the DUNKO letters to get a bonus spin for bigger tickets. You also receive one ticket for every coin that falls off of the edge. Dunko also has 8 game cards that you can win, collect and also trade for prizes. Dunko is the only place you can get these Trading Cards and will come in later in the Survival mode... ;)
Treasure in the Sand is a fun physics game where you have to clear the game board of sand and treasure without touching the shovel in the center of the board. Each sand chunk is worth 1 point and the treasure chests are worth 15 points. If you can get more than 300 points you win the Jackpot. You get paid according to the scale on the game HUD. I am still tweaking the winning amounts on this game and the payouts may change a bit.
Hockey Hut is a snatcher style game with a Bonus. The recent popularity of the rotating snatcher style games is growing and I can see why. They are really addicting and fun. So many near wins for the puck to just bounce off of the post and lose it all. The object is to spell the word HOCKEY and win the jackpot. The lights will stay lit between rounds so you can work on your progress through many games. I know I did. You can stack up some pretty big wins by just looking for the larger numbers and poaching them as they skate by. ;)
Claw Madness Ball Edition is claw crane machine. This is the same idea as the regular claw machine but with round balls instead of the ticket coils. I saw this game on some of the popular Youtubers sites and thought we need one of those. I have really enjoyed the claw machines in The Coin Game because they are the same every play. There is no computed winning algorithms. There is no fake loses. Just pure skill and cranes.
The Cuckoo Coin Machine is a coin pusher with an added bonus wheel. You can win Money, Windproof Lighter, swiss army knife and a fidget spinner. The objective is to light all of the "COINS" letters to get a bonus spin for bigger tickets. You also receive one ticket for every coin that falls off of the edge.
So that's all the Arcade Machines from Larry's Arcade. Stay tuned for another announcement about all the other machines, prizes and things to do in Islandville when your not bothering the guy at the arcades prize counter...
Dont forget to add The Coin Game to your wishlist to be the first notified when you too can start playing games and winning prizes.
ALSO... Be on the lookout for a simple FREE TECH DEMO with one coin pusher and skeeball to show the game mechanics and the player controls for The Coin Game. It will allow users to test the game on their system and get an idea of how the game and all of the other machines will function.
More info on the coming FREE demo in another announcement. Thanks for reading and we can not wait to get the EA version and FREE DEMO out to you all soon.
In Part 1 of this announcement, I will cover about half of the machines to keep the length down of the post down. The rest of Larry's arcades machines will be in Larry's Arcade Machines Part 2.
Larry's Arcade
I am happy to say Larry's Virtual Arcade is filling up nicely and now has a total of thirteen ticket redemption machines. Larry's is the first arcade available to play on Islandville Island. The arcade never closes and has a soda machine to keep you hydrated if you are playing survival mode. Arcade machines can be played when your player card is inserted and you have enough money on the card. After playing a machine, your tickets will be in your left hand and will be considered "Uncounted tickets". All of the tickets that you win will have to be "counted" in the ticket shredder next to the Prize redemption area. Once you have "shredded and counted" your tickets you will see them in your watch values and no longer in your left hand. Now they are available to spend on items and counted in the game as "Counted Tickets".
You can then purchase any of the available prizes from the prize kiosk in the arcade. It features a cool hologram display of the prize and to purchase just click and hold for one second on the prize of your choice. If you have enough tickets the item will materialize on the prize counter to your right. You can then play with it for hours and hours or just add it to your inventory (Backpack has 12 spots) and then go back to winning more tickets.
Introducing Stackem Up, a highly addictive skill based arcade game loved by many. The goal of the game is to align rows of moving blocks on top of each other. A player who can stack all rows to the minor prize will be awarded with a 250 Ticket bundle. Or let it ride and go for the Major prize. A new set of them fancy headphones everybody is walking around with.
The Prize Master is hugely popular arcade game that awards prizes to those who can fit the key into a lock using a mechanical arm. The prize amount increases the according to the rows of the gameboard. The lower rows of prizes are the easiest to unlock and the top row prizes are big money but much harder to unlock. As the arm increases in height it also increases in speed... so get your timing down and this game can payout some good money and tickets. It is the most expensive game at $5.00 per play (4 plays) in the arcade but also has the largest payouts of all of them.
Dizzy Bird is a skill based ticket redemption game that is fun for all levels of skill. If your ball stops on the green light you win 500 Tickets plus a bonus spin, If you land in the red lights you get a 100 tickets and a bonus spin. The second spin is for 2500 Bonus tickets. You just have to hit the green lit and it's all yours.
Speed Drop is an addictive fast-paced arcade game fairly new to the arcade scene. The idea is to drop all of the balls into moving buckets in a timed session. All you have to do is get that timing down and the 1000 tickets are yours. It sounds easy... but it is not. One of my favorite games in the arcade and I play it often while I am working. haha. Which is probably the reason I am writing in 2019 instead of 2018. ;)
Claw Madness is a classic claw crane machine full of tickets for your scooping. Claw machines have been a staple in the arcade scene for years. I mean who doesn't love a claw machine? Once you get the the action down on the Claw Madness it offers a great chance at big ticket wins. After the game is complete (four credits per play) you can find your prizes in the prize bin. Pick them up and head over to the ticket eater to count your winnings and then blow them on some useless carnie mirrors that you just going to sell in a few years at a garage sale. haha
Skee Ball the REAL arcade classic! Skee Ball is one of the first redemption games ever made. It was invented in 1908 by Joseph Fourestier Simpson. It is played by rolling a wooden ball up an inclined lane that directs the balls into a bullseye ring. The player gets 8 balls each play. The Max score you can receive is 800. You will never get it but it's possible. haha. Like most arcade you will get paid .5 tickets per point. So half.
All of the machines are still being tweaked on their winning values to make them balanced and fair. We will be making changes throughout the early access program.
the rest of the machines are covered in Larry's Arcade Machines Part 2.
In typical devotid fashion I have gone way overboard and added a ton of stuff. The problem is that with only one person working on a title of this size is that things take way longer than ever expected. Now that I have finished and filled the first arcade, I can start to get more beta testers in the mix and get the Early Access version out to patiently waiting users very soon ;) I had to move the release date to Q1 2019 as I have changed the overall vision of the game and added some different modes.
Here is a quick teaser of the characters available in The Coin Game. https://youtu.be/2n1918Jo1FE I am essentially building two games now.
Birthday Mode:
A standard Arcade "simulator" where you can just enjoy playing the arcade games and getting prizes without the worry of earning money and having to eat/drink to keep your health up. This is just a fun stress free way to enjoy a night of ticket hunting. You can even teleport instantly around the island from the map menu on your smart watch. (if you are outside). No curfew, No hunger and no mom texting you all the time. Just pure prize winning freedom all granted to you by your rich unlce Phil.
Survival Mode:
Then there is another mode where you start with nothing and have to earn money doing jobs and scavenging things around the island town to continue progressing and winning prizes. There is a daily paper route to deliver newspapers to a dozen spots around the island. Each paper you deliver will earn you a couple bucks. You also get a bonus tip for delivering all 12 papers to all the red newspaper boxes around the island. The newspaper spots are marked with a small mailbox on your smart watch menu and will turn green when you have already delivered to that location for the day. You can walk, run or take the bus to get to all 12 delivery locations or the real paperboys get themselves a used golf cart from Barry's pawn and swap.
Here is another quick teaser of the characters available in The Coin Game with a new menu. https://youtu.be/SCjmG46dSuI Everyday before midnight you will have to check in with your mom and then go to sleep. This will complete a full day. The next day more jobs will be available again to earn more money. This mode is still in development and will be evolving throughout the early access version. Lots of fun and exciting things are coming for the world's first Arcade Survival Game. Yeah I totally just made that genre up.
Having the two different modes will give users the chance to enjoy the game in any way that they like.
Playable characters available in game:
Male
Female
Stay tuned for Larry's Arcade Machines Part 1 coming next. It will have in depth info on each arcade machine available in the first arcade coming to Islandvill Island.
You're probably asking yourself... "What's The Coin Game?"
Well, The Coin Game is an new Arcade Themed Open World Youth Simulator (Yes I just mashed all those adjectives together) complete with silly robots that manage the place. The object of surviving and flourishing in The Coin Game is to keep your parents happy, your stomach full of junk food and your pockets full of tickets and prizes. That's pretty much the gist of it. Sounds easy right?
Update info and pics:
Since my last announcement I have added a complete island town with unique fun locations, transportation systems, mini maps, in-game economies and have been focusing more on the overall "replay-ability" of The Coin Game. We don't just want to waste your time with the coin game...We want to waste it better than any other arcade adventure has wasted your time before. ;)
What started as two buildings and a parking lot has turned into a small Island town! I decided to add a larger world mainly because the parking lot just wasn't big enough to enjoy all of the things coming to The Coin Game. To get around town you can either walk (free), take the bus (cost little money) or save up for the gas golf cart (big money).
I am currently working on adding more games and machines to the arcade. I am also working on the new main characters (male and female) and several more bot characters to add more life and humor to the adventure. These additions are coming along nicely and will have more info and pics to share in the coming days.
Here is a recent video of the games progression and a look around Islandville with the bus and golf cart. Please note this is a work in-progress and may change in the future as we get into the EA Launch.
A few of the new locations within islandville include a home base garage, Jerry's Gas & Go, Barry's Pawn Shop, Larry's Arcade and a nice relaxing public beach area. All areas offer their own opportunities and surprises if your not too proud to scrounge a little... There will be more news and info on each location as we get closer to the EA release.
Home Base- This is a great place to start and offers a safe place to return your loot to. Not far from the heart of town, just a quick walk to the bus stop and Jerry's Gas & Go.
Jerry's Gas & Go- Where Scratch Off Lotto and cheap gas is King! Complete with vending machines to quench your thirst and gas to fill the Golf carts belly.
Barry's Pawn Shop- Are you low on Cash? Do you need some loot to play at the arcade? Well, Barry's has you covered. Barry buys anything! Simply take your old scratch off tickets, empty cans or if you must your prized plush.ːsteamsadː
Larry's Arcade- This is the heart of the the coin game! Where all your bonus dreams will come true. Collecting tickets and winning prizes is just the beginning. This is why you do all of the hard work around town and scrounge dumpsters till the bots come home. The sound of sweet sweet bonus ringers. Don't stay too long though as mom will start sending texts that say "you dont want your father to get involved." or its GAME OVER. (because literally that's game over.)
Public beach- There is no judgement here. If you're strapped for cash try checking dumpsters and coolers for empty cans and used scratch off tickets from the tourists party shrapnels. You never know what those dummies will leave behind on their vacations.
The Bus- The bus is faster than walking and costs roughly $1.50 a ride. All seven bus stops allow you to purchase a ticket on location and a even have a button to hail the bus to minimize your waiting time. Because "waiting" is time not spent winning tickets.... and that's no bueno.
The Golf Cart- Ahhh... pure open road freedom! The golf cart is the fastest way to get to where you're going. It's also a way to find a fun detour or adventure. Stack up your goodies in the back and take em to the pawn shop for a huge payout or pile em up and bring home your daily winnings in ease. Your going to have to save your money up to buy it but then you're not having to wait for the man anymore. Er.. I mean robot.
I have always loved the atmosphere of an arcade and the adventure of playing all of the machines for useless trinkets. The lights, the sounds, the robots..... Wait what? Robots? You'll see soon enough. It will be an adventure of pure utter time wasting. Because here at devotid Media. We take wasting your time extremely serious.
The Coin Game is a new game from indie developer devotid Media that is complete with true arcade realism ....like spending all your money, chugging caffeine drinks, Waiting in line for machines, eating Cheesy Poofs and don't forget the winning of worthless silly prizes! If this sounds like a challenge you are up to.... then read on my friend.
Do you love old fashioned coin pusher machines? New high tech ticket redemption arcades? Great! Because now you can relax from the comfort of your own home and enjoy the thrill of playing today's and yesteryear's best arcade games. All machines are physics/realism based and will entertain for hours. Win piles of tickets and feed them to the ticket eater and then exchange them for silly fun prizes at the Prize Counter. Run out of money? No problem. You can sell your slightly used arcade prizes to the arcade owners brother Barry who runs a bootleg toy company next door. He will always be looking to buy different prizes at different fluctuating prices so be sure to hold on to them until he is willing to pay top dollar.
Being a more physics oriented developer at the core (ie; Racing Games /Vehicle Physics) I wanted to make sure to nail all the physics of each machine and it's "little quirks" but I also did not want the arcade and the experience to feel alone and repetitious. So hence the adventure side started to unfold. My wife/Game dev partner and I have been playing many survival/adventure games lately and thought it would be fun to add this to a regular arcade style game. The idea of going to an arcade to "prevail or conquer" the place is all over youtube videos nowadays. Its no longer about the fun of just going to waste some money and enjoy what happens but instead its an army of camera wielding youths trying to empty every machine in record time. So we thought it would be fun to add some of these elements to our new game. We will be releasing more info when it is ready but wanted to let our fellow arcade enthusiasts that it is being built.
We also wanted to lets users know that you will still be able to play the game in a fun relaxed "time wasting" infinite money mode. (called "it's Your Birthday Mode"). In this mode you will be able to just play all the games and enjoy them without all the fuss of trying to survive and chug devotid dews or eat cheesy poofs from a vending machine just to stay alive. It will be just a normal arcade like you are used to.
The Early Access game will be changing and evolving through the early access version and will be around $9.99 when released in Q4 2018. Make sure to add The Coin Game to your wishlist on Steam to get more info on the coming release and info of the game. The Coin Game Store Page Here
I am planning on adding many more games throughout the early access version. You can see them in the arcade as Crated Boxes that are not unpacked yet.
The first playable release is planned for Q4 2018
Make sure to add us to your wishlist to be the first to get news on The Coin Game and its future release date.
