Parkasaurus - Takiyah

Parkasaurus Collaboration

Hi Dino friends! Well, we’re two weeks in since Parkasaurus and everything is going great!

Thanks to ALL the early supporters of the game – being an early supporter is a vote of confidence for our vision and really motivates the two of us. Extra thanks to all of you who have made a Steam review (Very Positive) for Parkasaurus or told your friends about us. TY!

This is just the beginning. The last two weeks have kept us very busy fixing bugs, adding some fun features like First Player mode, and sneaking in a few more languages. Now we are chatting with all of you on our Discord channel, forums and Twitter, and receiving great feedback.

This is the time to get in early with the game and help us choose the direction of Parkasaurus.

Update:
  • Press coverage!
  • FP(S) mode
  • Community Feedback
  • Delete Tool

Press coverage!
The press coverage has been really solid for Parkasaurus and I just wanted to high-lite a few exceptional pieces:

Rock, Paper, Shotgun
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/10/02/premature-evaluation-parkasaurus/

PCGamer
https://www.pcgamer.com/parkasaurus-is-a-cute-dino-management-game-you-might-prefer-to-jurassic-world/

FP(S) mode
This was a feature we never had time to finish – and we were not entirely sure of the demand for it. Needless to say, this was our first mini update feature and we think it went over pretty well.

Community Feedback
So far the most exciting part of releasing Parkasaurus is seeing the cool ideas and positive reception from the community. We are receiving a lot of good ideas that we're trying to implement in the game – you’re all awesome. Here are just a few of the submitted park pictures to our Discord channel.

Delete Tool
An example of community feedback put into action was the request for a better deletion tool when it comes to vegetation. We had initially included the delete tool to include all items in the game – then mistakenly deleted a $10000 Banana Stand. Not cool. Ok, yes, money is … fairly easy to get at the moment, but that is changing. In the meantime – uber delete tool:

Parkasaurus has arrived
The two of us are trying our hardest to get the Parkasaurus word out to the interwebz, and we see all of you helping out! Make a Steam review! Tell your friend! Being a Parkasaurus Advocate is such a big help to us.

Thanks. xoxo

Parkasaurus Enters Early Access Today!

Hi Dino friends! The time has come for Parkasaurus to enter Early Access.

First off the two of us who make up the Parkasaurus team want to thank everyone who playtested, gave us feedback, told their friends or forums about us, or just hung out in Discord and was awesome. Thanks. This has been a scary adventure which all of you made much easier. Now we begin the next phase!

We hope the Parkasaurus family gets bigger today, and with that comes a new group of people to help choose the direction of where we go. Yes – the next few weeks will likely be fixing terrible bugs and game balancing, but it also will be an opportunity to hear feedback from everyone and update our roadmap. Early Access support is crucial for a 2 person team like ours, and, we can’t thank you enough.

Not to stray too far from our usual updates, I just wanted to provide a little background to Parkasaurus and then some fun stuff.

The Origin of Parkasaurus
We thought it would be fun to share the origin of how we came to start making Parkasaurus. Although the game nods to previous games before it, the impetuous came from a handmade game design doc in the form of a colorful binder that is called DinoGame, with sparkles and all. DinoBook was split by tabs into categories, detailing how a dino tycoon sim game could work. Well – thanks to one of our wives, we fell in love with the idea of DinoGame and ran with it.

Now a little fun:
  • Wandering your park at night
  • No You Clean the Toilet
  • Food Court Design
  • Dinos with Style

Wandering your park at night
Spending the entire Parkasaurus day can sometimes be stressful, especially if you get a breakout. I like to take the time and use the free cam to enjoy the cool views at night.

No You Clean the Toilet
In Parkasaurus the employees automatically will try to find tasks to do around the park. You can toggle them to just do one task if you want (eg. There is a ton of garbage and you want your janitor on ultra clean-up duty). We also let you assign directly in game different tasks for your employees by using the right mouse button.

Food Court Design
There is a lot of emphasis on Exhibit Design in Parkasaurus, and for good reason. Happy Dinos mean more money to expand your park. But it also is fun to take your time and plan how you’ll create little food courts around your park.

Dinos with Style
Perhaps most importantly in Parkasaurus you’ll need to equip your dinos to look good. Your dino best friends won’t be able to wear accessories until they become adults; so that gives you plenty of time to research and stock up on the coolest items in town.

Parkasaurus has arrived
The two of us are trying our hardest to get the Parkasaurus word out to the interwebz, and we see all of you helping out! Keep it up! Pass on the word! Being a Parkasaurus Advocate is such a big help to us. Thanks. xoxo

Parkasaurus Update #020 : Steggos Coming Home

We sent our Steggos out into the wild and they’ve found their way back. That’s an analogy for life, and also an analogy for sending out the Parkasaurus tutorial for a little feedback playtesting. At the moment we’re heavily looking at the game after the tutorial, so days 7+ of in-world time. We see so many different directions Parkasaurus can take and look forward to having people help out with those decisions.

And of course, as a reminder in 2 weeks, we’re releasing into Early Access on September 25th (eep!). Thanks to everyone who has been helping spread the news about Parkasaurus and getting our Wishlist numbers up!

Update 020 Topics
  • Expanding the Family
  • Steggos Coming Home
  • Watching the Hatch
  • Valley o’ Dinos

Expanding the Family
The size requirements for each exhibit is dependent on the number of dinosaurs that are living there. If you add a new baby to your dino family you’ll need to increase the exhibit size to keep everyone happy. The easiest way to accomplish this is to add the extension fence first then remove the dividing portion (otherwise guests might get snacked on). The best part though is watching the baby & parent bonding at the end. :)

Steggos Coming Home
What can I say? Sometimes I find it fun to just create a massive Steggo herd to come storming out of the mountains onto our poor little food court village.

Watching the Hatch
Although not necessary I like to make an elevated enclosure around a hatching dino egg – like this little Tric. Oh, and to place down a front row seat for a perfect view. I'm very excited to see what other ideas people come up with in the game.

Valley o’ Dinos
We have a random terrain generation tool for the game that we will likely include for Early Access but keep it as an experimental feature until we have more time to smooth out the kinks. If people really find this fun we also can start to integrate it more into the game. I find the feature really useful for creating fun scenes like my Valley o’ Dinos.

Parkasaurus Update #019 : Our Journey Together

Well it is frighteningly official. In fact, it is difficult to even type this out. Parkasaurus releases into Early Access on September 25th. On that day we start working together to create what we hope is a great dino tycoon management game. There will be some bumps in the road, there is no doubt. Will your computer catch on fire? Maybe. But, you’ll be able to help guide us with the features that you think are best, and provide feedback on all levels of the game. I’m excited. Scared. But excited.

I have one other big request. You and me have 4 weeks to get the word out. I’m sure everyone is busy, I get it. If you can find the time though, to pass the word on about Parkasaurus it really helps. Getting our Wishlist numbers up is critical. Thanks so much. Enough of this sappiness, let’s get to it!!!

Update 019 Topics
  • NEW TRAILER
  • Early Access Date Announcement

NEW TRAILER
There is not a lot to say about the new trailer, except we had a lot of fun recording a ton of footage for it. We also had a few late nights. Either way we had a good time. There was a lot of clips we had to cut – but don’t worry, we’ll be posting the video that didn’t make it throughout the next 4 weeks on our social media links.

Early Access Date Announcement
We are releasing into Early Access September 25th. It is true, we had originally said Spring, then Summer, but hey, this is summer-like. Thanks to everyone who has Wishlisted the game – it really helps. Here is the link to pass on if you know a few people who might be interested in Parkasaurus and have yet to hear about it. (yes, there are lot’s of people like that)

Parkasaurus Update #018 : The Pursuit of Raptorness

Parkasaurus is humming right along. We’re feeling pretty happy with our complete re-do of the starting tutorial, and now are focusing on gameplay after 7+ days of park time. This includes income balancing which is a pretty big challenge at the moment, with only two of us it can be hard to get in a 2-hour game session. 😊 But! Have no fear, we know soon the community will be helping us out (hopefully) with balance, and providing great suggestions on what needs to change. We’ve already had some pretty cool suggestions on our Discord and Roadmap (all links below)

Update 018 Topics
  • See in the dark
  • Pack Hunting
  • Fence Fun
  • Bonus: Experimental Terrain Generator

See in the dark
We added in some more interesting streetlights to give the player some more options when designing their park at night. My favorite is the string lights that attached from tall scenery objects in your park to other tall objects. This meant having to go through all our park build-ables and add the appropriate collisions which is a time-consuming process…but well worth it; I think. (I better of thought that since I had to do it)

Pack Hunting
In order to push our dino behavior a little farther, Velociraptors pack hunt when trying to attack a large dino in their exhibit. They intentionally try to walk through the tall grass before the attack (any dino in tall grass gets a reduction to their "view-ability" from a guest or other dinos. It might be fun for them to pack hunt guests also, perhaps I’ll try that next.

Fence Fun
Whipping up a bare-bones exhibit to test our new range of fence materials including an overhaul on icons, values, and imagery. Fence materials affect the viewability of the exhibit from the view point of the guests, and perhaps, more importantly, the strength of the fence. A stronger fence means less repair work for your janitors or allows you to keep in some pretty scary best dino friends.

Bonus: Experimental Terrain Generator
I’m still entertaining the idea of how and if we’ll include the random terrain generation on day one of Early Access. Either way, I’d love to get it into player hands and see what cool pics they can come up with.
