We have just concluded our final improvement update for MapleStory 2's Project New Leaf. Our team's focus has always been to run a true community-driven game service and I am very happy with how we have accomplished this with MapleStory 2. Project New Leaf represents the approach we plan to take with all of our games going forward.
Project New Leaf is just the beginning and, with a new major expansion coming soon, we hope to further improve MapleStory 2 based on feedback from the community. We will soon disclose the exciting content and changes coming with the summer expansion, and we hope to get more feedback from you, the players, so that we can tailor the update and deliver a truly epic experience.
The MapleStory 2 team worked hard to fix some of the major issues we saw after the game's official launch, and we are all excited to see so many players coming back to enjoy the game and all of the improvements that Project New Leaf has delivered. We hope these changes can revive MapleStory 2 and make it feel as packed as it was on day one!
Thank you very much for being part of the MapleStory 2 community and working with us as part of Project New Leaf. Your feedback and dedication have been invaluable throughout this process. We have an exciting road ahead of us with this summer's major expansion, and we hope to see the community grow alongside MapleStory 2. Be sure to share the Project New Leaf improvements with your fellow Maplers to let them know how we have worked to improve the game with the following changes!
Changes Made as Part of Project New Leaf
Removed Fairfight from all Adventure Dungeons
Reduced World Boss HP by ~60%

Increased penalties for illegally buying mesos

And more!
MapleStory 2 is a passion project for the team, and we will continue to serve the community with our best efforts.
The final update for Project New Leaf is here, and the theme for this month's improvements is "100%". We've taken a hard look at many of the progression systems in MapleStory 2 and focused on guaranteeing improvements to your gear as much as possible, be it through Peachy's Enchantments, getting new Gemstones or unlocking the sockets to slot them in.
A Note on Project New Leaf
Project New Leaf was meant to envision changes to the game by projecting the thoughts and ideas of our players straight to the whiteboard. It's thanks to you all, our community, that we managed to properly address so many of MapleStory 2's pain points. Through the last three months, we've used your feedback to heavily scale back Fairfight, minimize meso sinks, make Epic pets easier to obtain and so much more.
The foundation set by Project New Leaf will define how we move forward: Listening to you, our players, and using your feedback and perspective in order to make MapleStory 2 the best game that it can possibly be. This may be the final update for Project New Leaf, but it is only the beginning of our efforts to fully grasp the potential that this unique MMORPG has, and we look forward to hearing your feedback for the months to come.
Peachy Enchantment Improvements
MapleStory 2 features two methods of enchanting your gear: Peachy, who offers guaranteed enchantment success at a high price, and Ophelia, who offers a chance of successful enchantment at a lower cost. In the past, however, Ophelia's vastly cheaper enchantment attempts made her the only viable option for most players... but no more!
We've gone back to Peachy's Enchantments and rebalanced them for all types of gear, greatly reducing the amount of resources needed to enchant your gear to maximum power. You also won't need to hunt down Crystal Ore to enchant with Peachy, instead she'll use Duplicate Weapons in their stead! All told, you'll end up spending at least 70% fewer Onyx Crystals, Crystal Fragments and Chaos Onyx Crystals to enchant your gear all the way to +15 compared to Peachy's old system.
Example: Lv. 50 Legendary Main Hand and Two-Handed Weapons
Before the Progression Improvement Update
After the Progression Improvement Update
Again, these changes are being applied to all enchantable gear. And importantly...
DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR CRYSTAL ORE!
With our next update, we'll unveil a way to turn all that Crystal Ore you've been saving up into valuable enchantment-related resources that you can use to keep the enchantments going. But for now, it's time to give Peachy some love!
Gemstone Changes
Gemstones are a powerful way to improve your gear... but previously a very costly one, especially once you get towards higher-end Gemstones. Even once you obtained all the materials, you needed to attempt an upgrade with a low chance of success. We've made a lot of changes to the Gemstone systems, making obtaining, upgrading and removing the stones smooth and simple!
Upgrading Gemstones
To get the best stats possible on your top-tier Accessories, you needed to upgrade your Gemstones... but even going up to Tier 2 only had a 25% chance of success, and it wasn't unknown to make dozens of attempts at upgrading a Gemstone from Tier 9 to Tier 10 and have nothing to show for it, burning through Dust and Crystal Fragments all the while.
With the Progression Improvement Update, we've decided to do away with the random number generator: Every single Gemstone Upgrade attempt now has a 100% chance of success! This also meant that we needed to rebalance the costs for each upgrade attempt, but don't fret: Gemstone Upgrades now cost ~80% the previous average costs to upgrade!
Combined with all the other changes we're making, it should take 80% less time to get yourself fully loaded up with Tier 10 Gemstones, so get a move on and grab all the Dust and Gemstones you need. And speaking of which...
Acquiring Gemstones and Dust
Before you can even start upgrading the Gemstones, you'll need to gather the materials... which wasn't always a simple proposition. Needing some more Red Gem Dust on your Knight, but only getting the Blue Dust that your Wizard needed was frustrating for many, but that's no longer the case!
With the Progression Improvement Update, Gemstone Boxes allow you to choose which Gemstone you want, instead of having you suffer the luck of the draw. Similarly, Gem Dust Boxes now let you choose what color of Gem Dust you want! Plus, going forward all Gemstones you get will be account-bound, to make it easier to get the materials you need for those elusive Tier 10 Gemstones!
There is some bad news, however: As a result of this and the improvements we made to upgrading Gemstones, we've elected to remove some sources of Gemstones and Dust:
Gemstone-related items will no longer be sold in the Treva Shop, and will no longer be obtainable from Daily Mission - Power Mission Box
Gemstone-related drops will no longer occur in Chaos Raid or Fortress Rumble clears
Rusted Keys will be removed, meaning that keys to Abandoned Mine B1 and B4 will no longer drop
Players with keys will still be able to use them to access the B1 and B4 dungeons until the update on May 30th
We believe that the changes outlined above will more than make up for these removals, and you will still be able to obtain Gemstones and Dust in the following places:
Gemstone / Dust Selection Box: Allows you to choose the type of Gem or the color of Dust that you receive. Up to 30 Tier 1 Gemstones or 1,800 Dust per week from Hard Adventure Dungeons.
Gem Dust Selection Box: Allows you to choose the color of Dust that you receive. Up to 1,000 Dust per week from Stellar Glass, same as before, and up to 300 Dust per week from the Guild Gemstone Shop.
Gemstone Extraction Costs
The final change to Gemstones is simple and obvious: It really shouldn't cost you that much to remove your Gemstones when you get a brand-new accessory! As such, we've greatly slashed the cost of amount of Crystal Fragments needed to extract your Gemstones to nearly trivial amounts:
If you want the full explanation behind all of the above, you can learn more at the Gemstone Project New Leaf blog. We hope that all of these changes will make it much simpler and easier to slot powerful Gemstones into your unlocked Accessory sockets... and yes, we have some good news there as well!
Accessory Socket Changes
Even just opening the sockets for your Gemstones had a chance of failure before and, to go along with all of the other changes, we've kicked out the RNG and adjusted the costs to compensate! It now will cost you a bit less now on average to unlock all three sockets, and you won't have to worry about a string of awful luck gobbling up your Crystal Fragments!
With this update, we felt it was important to reward play fully and equally, without trying to force players into too many activities that they had no interest in. One of the biggest culprits was Daily Missions, an excellent way to get the items and currency you needed to upgrade your equipment, but required you to do many tasks that many found uninteresting.
As such, we are removing Daily Missions in favor of a new, innovative strategy: Play how you want! Any activity in MapleStory 2 that provides experience also, once you hit Lv. 50, rewards Prestige Experience that increases your Prestige Rank. With the Progression Improvement Update, hitting those new Prestige Ranks will also come with a bonus prize for the first, second and fourth time you do so each week!
These Prestige Rank Reward Boxes contain the critical resources and currencies that made up the bulk of the Daily Mission rewards. While some special rewards from Daily Missions, such as Hairstyle Voucher and UGC Template Fragments, will not be in these new boxes, keep an eye out for them to show up in special events!
We're aware that mesos were a popular reward from the Daily Missions as well. To compensate for their loss, we're boosting the meso rewards from Normal and Hard Adventure Bonus Boxes by nearly double!
Normal/Hard Adventure Bonus Box Meso Changes at Lv. 60
Thank you for bearing with us throughout Project New Leaf! This is by no means the end of our efforts to improve MapleStory 2 and make it the best experience it could possibly be, but your help in telling us what needed improvement and where our changes were falling short have been a huge boon. Keep enjoying MapleStory 2, and we'll keep making it even better!

When naming a house, a comma can no longer be used in the name
Fixed an issue that temporarily prevented item enchantment if the success rate was boosted to 100% before catalyst items were selected
Fixed a scenario that allowed pet summoning to cancel attack skill animations
Known Issues
Sometimes a Meret purchase will not be instantly delivered to the player's mailbox. When this occurs, returning to the character select screen and coming back will trigger the Meret delivery
Deep Sea Fashion trophy does not unlock after successfully fishing for an appropriate weapon skin
Binding "Action" to the Left or Right arrow keys will not function on Portals
Typo in Weak Point Analysis Tonic describes it as giving "+5% Piercing" when it should actually say "+5% Physical/Magic Piercing"
Queenstown mini-map still shows Ming Ming's shop, even though this event shop is no longer present
Players using game pad controls may experience erratic movement when under the effects of a movement slowing debuff
Being healed by a Healing Lapentier dismounts players (even if you have Safe Riding)
Update (1:05 PM PDT): The maintenance has been completed. The reason for the extension was that the Crystal Ore exchange shop, meant to compensate players for their now unneeded Crystal Ore was released prematurely. This has been addressed, and we are proceeding as follows:
There is no rollback.
All players that log into MapleStory 2 before 1:00 PM PDT on Apr. 26 (8:00 PM UTC) will receive 20x Elixirs and 2x Auto-Fishing Vouchers (1 Hour) as compensation for the extended downtime.
If you purchased scrolls from the Crystal Ore shop, you will keep them.
If you did not purchase scrolls from the shop, you will be able to buy them at a later time.
The shop WILL NOT RESTOCK. Players who purchased them early will not have any advantage over people who didn't get a chance to.
The scrolls are meant for level 60 gear which will come out at a later time. They are not to be used with current gear. Please keep them safe in your inventory until that time.
The TOAD'S TOOLKITS can be used with BOTH level 50 and 60 gear. While we cannot stop you from using them on your current items if you already bought some, we advise you hold onto them for the future.
If you double click your Crystal Ore, it will open up the shop, but you will be unable to purchase any items. This shop will be reactivated when the relevant time comes.
We have elected to temporarily close the shop because we are concerned players may accidentally make purchases that they will regret later after being exposed to additional information about our summer expansion.
With that being said, as we reveal more information regarding the future content, we will offer you an opportunity to refund these scrolls through our CS team for equivalent Crystal Ore if you purchased any early that you'll regret later on for any particular reason, at any time until the summer expansion arrives.
Thanks, and we apologize for the issues and confusion today.
We will be performing a scheduled maintenance on Thursday, April 25th at 5:00 AM PDT. During this period, all servers will be unavailable. We anticipate the maintenance to last approximately 5 hours, concluding at around 10:00 AM PDT.

Now that we've discussed most of major changes (and make sure to check out the updates to them we're releasing today as well!), let's discuss the "...and more!" part. To recap, here's a quick overview of what's to come in the Progression Improvement Update:
Today we will be covering the following additional changes we will be making with this update:
Daily Mission Removal and Weekly Prestige Rank Rewards
Meso Adjustments in Adventure Bonus Box
Sky Fortress Faction Mission Quality of Life Change
I'm sure the first line of this list looks alarming, but please read through the entirety of this blog before deciding how you feel about the changes.
Daily Mission Removal and Weekly Prestige Rank Rewards
With the Progression Improvement Update, Daily Missions will be replaced with new Prestige Rank Rewards. We're electing to make this change because while Daily Missions had meaningful rewards, the missions themselves felt repetitive and backwards at times. We'd like to fix this and streamline your MapleStory 2 experience by adding weekly Prestige Rank Rewards.
To explain what Prestige Ranks is first, upon reaching Level 50, you can gain Prestige Experience by doing anything that gives you regular Experience. The menu for it can be found by clicking on the Prestige Experience Bar, placed above Experience Bar at the bottom of your screen.
You should be able to gain 1 Prestige Rank each day by performing regular activities, and after earning 1,000,000 Experience (enough for a full Prestige Rank), any additional Experience you earn will be applied towards your Prestige rank at a reduced rate. Basically, it's designed so that you can fairly easily earn 1 Prestige Rank each day, and that continuing to play is still rewarded, without making it feel like you must grind all the time.
(Note: UI is a Work in Progress, changes may be made)
The concept of these newly added Weekly Prestige Rank Reward Boxes is fairly straightforward.
If you increase your Prestige Rank 1, 2, or 4 times within a week (before/after the weekly reset at UTC Friday 00:00), you will be handsomely rewarded with Prestige Rank Reward Boxes that contain the following items:
(Note: Reward Box names may change. Additionally, Colorful Crystal Boxes allow you to choose which color of crystal you receive)
Depending on which type of Daily Missions you have been doing, and by what extent, the proposed rewards may seem either good or bad for you. As Prestige Rank rewards will be obtained at the account level, instead of the character level as with Daily Missions, we will be rewarding you with an increased amount of primarily account bound resources, which will be a plus to many players. But if you were completing most Daily Missions on as many characters as possible, this will likely result in fewer rewards.
We understand this will feel like a nerf for many, but we believe this is a necessary change for us to improve the overall experience of MapleStory 2. The intention of weekly Prestige Rank reward system is to reward you for playing the character you want and doing the activities you want in MapleStory 2. No more forced, mundane chores – choose how you earn these rewards on your own.
With that in mind, there are some other rewards not included in the Prestige Rank Reward boxes that were available through various mission boxes in Daily Missions. We will be reintroducing some of those rewards through future iterations of events… and speaking of those rewards, that leads into our next topic, arguably the most important reward missing from the above boxes: Mesos.
Meso Adjustments in Adventure Bonus Box
For many of you out there, Daily Mission's were one of the main locations you obtained additional mesos and resources, especially when playing on multiple characters. While our intention was to simplify the experience by removing Daily Missions, we didn't want to reduce meso gains from their current level. As such, we'll be nearly doubling the amount of mesos in the Normal/Hard Adventure Bonus Boxes you receive by completing 30 adventure dungeons in a week:
In total, each character completing 30 Adventure Dungeons a week will be getting an additional 2,000,000 mesos with the above changes.
Sky Fortress Faction Mission Quality of Life Change
With less of a burden on completing Daily Missions, we also expect more players to focus on the Sky Fortress daily and weekly Faction Missions. However, you have been vocal that accepting and completing individual Sky Fortress missions was considered a chore to many of you. As such, with the Progression Improvement Update, we are adding "Accept All" and "Complete All" button to Sky Fortress Faction Missions to make things just a bit smoother.
You will still need to talk to each Faction leader to accept the Faction Missions, but instead of clicking through the same dialog for each mission, you can simply elect to accept and complete all of them at once.
Beyond
With the Progression Improvement Update on April 25th making so many major changes, we understand you may be concerned that you may run out of ways to progress, or that the game is too easy. As mentioned in previous blogs, the Project New Leaf updates are here to improve the core philosophy of the gameplay with current progression and economy, so that the experience from MapleStory 2 is more balanced and rewarding. With these changes, we intend to make some parts of the game much more accessible, whereas other areas the same with future content in mind. The fact that a good amount of players are reaching the point where current progression is ending is actually a positive sign, because we want to help lesser-geared players catch-up before our Summer Expansion hits. It's worth mentioning that what's ahead will prove challenging for all manner of players regardless if they're endgame or entry level as well.
Summer is coming, and with it we are preparing massive amount of exciting new content for you. There's still a lot to get done before we get there, but we assure you we will use everything we learned from Project New Leaf and carry it with us into the future as well.
We kindly ask that the discussions in the threads above be focused on the information shared in today's blog. Please do note that many things we discuss here can change by nature of opening up these topics early for discussion. We'll always do our best to improve upon our ideas based on your feedback. As always, thank you for being patient with us and for being a part of Project New Leaf!

[Updated April 17]: Thanks for all the feedback! After hearing your thoughts, we and the development team went back to the drawing board to see if there's any further adjustments we can make. We're happy to report that we are ready to present to you an updated example that better reflects what our original intention was: make Peachy's Enchants a viable option without rendering Ophelia obsolete.
To achieve this, we've narrowed the margin of difference between the two methods, but still keeping Peachy's resource requirements higher than Ophelia. Compared to the numbers we presented initially, we feel this is much closer now enough to be seriously considered for those who'd like to opt for the safer, guaranteed method.
Peachy Enchant for Lv. 50 Legendary Main hand / Two-handed Weapon after Progression Improvement Update
Please note though we are still in the final stage of testing for this change, and some additional changes may occur between now and the April 25th update.
Today, we're going into detail about the upcoming changes to enchantment and news about a 64-Bit Client. As a reminder, here's a quick overview of what's to come in the Progression Improvement Update:
Progression Improvement Update (tentative date April 25th):
In MapleStory 2, there are two NPCs that can help you enchant your equipment, Ophelia and Peachy. Ophelia offers quick attempts with a random chance of success, while Peachy offers expensive but guaranteed methods to upgrade your equipment.
Until now though, Peachy's enchanting method has been rarely used due to the significant costs that it required. When we looked to improve enchantment, we wanted to keep the concept of two methods to enchant intact but also offer you better choices. As such, we will change Peachy's enchants to require similar amounts and types of resources on average when compared to Ophelia's enchantment attempts.
Current Peachy Enchant for Lv. 50 Legendary Main hand / Two-handed Weapon
Peachy Enchant for Lv. 50 Legendary Main hand / Two-handed Weapon after Progression Improvement Update
Above is the before-and-after required resource charts for Lv.50 Legendary Main hand / Two-handed Weapon as a sample. This change will occur for all weapons and armor with the same idea in mind. What this means is that you can now safely use Peachy to build up and guarantee your enchantments, without spending much more than Ophelia would normally cost you.
Also with this change, Peachy will no longer require any Crystal Ore to enchant your gear. We'll discuss what will happen to Crystal Ore below.
Ophelia Enchant
You may be wondering what will happen with Ophelia enchanting method after the update, given the changes that have come to Peachy. With the introduction of guaranteed methods with Peachy, you may wonder if Ophelia may become abandoned by most players. That said, we're choosing to keep Ophelia around as is because Ophelia enchant may still be beneficial in certain circumstances:
Peachy enchant's resource requirements are based on the average amount of resources needed for a successful Ophelia enchant with a normal amount of fail charges spent on the enchant. As such, there's still a chance that you will end up spending less on an Ophelia enchant than one by Peachy. If you'd like to take your chances, the option will remain available for you.
Ophelia's method also lets you improve the success rate if you have a large surplus of duplicate items or fail charges saved up, while there's no way to change the cost of Peachy's enchantments. If you are okay with spending a lot more Onyx, Chaos Onyx, and Crystal Fragments than with Peachy, Ophelia's enchantments may get your gear to +15 much faster.
We still highly recommend Peachy's enchantments to most players, and we designed our UI to reflect this because it is an easier system to understand with little downside. But if you've already accrued significant amount of fail charges on your gear, it will likely be cheaper for you to continue Ophelia enchantments until the failure charges are used up.
Crystal Ore
With the Progression Improvement Update (tentatively April 25th), Crystal Ore will no longer drop from the game and will not be required for Peachy's enchants.
BUT PLEASE DO NOT THROW AWAY YOUR CRYSTAL ORE!
We are currently finalizing a plan that to let you exchange your hard-earned Crystal Ore into valuable enchantment-related resources in the update that follows the Progression Improvement Update (tentatively late May). The more Crystal Ore you have, the more you will benefit, so we'd recommend stocking up while you can!
64-Bit Client
Additionally, we ready to bring up 64-bit client compatibility. Having MapleStory 2 fully utilize the strengths of a 64-bit operating system has been a common optimization request, and we've been working on the side to get this implemented soon. We're happy to report that we are planning to launch the new 64-bit client during the April 17th maintenance! After next week's maintenance, you will be able to choose between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of MapleStory 2 from both the Nexon Launcher and on Steam, and check out the improvements for yourself.
Please note that 64-bit version of MapleStory 2 is still fairly new and, depending on the hardware and software of your computer, you may have different experiences (such as longer loading speeds between maps). You can still use the 32-bit client if that gives you a better performance, and we will be addressing issues found with the new 64-bit client to improve it for everyone.
