[Updated April 17]: Thanks for all the feedback! We're making a quick update to inform you that with this change, the Gemstone Upgrade failure trophies will no longer be available to obtain after the update, and will be removed from your trophy list unless you earned them before Progression Improvement Update on April 25th. Meanwhile, the Gemstone Upgrade Attempt and Success trophies will remain visible and attainable after the update.
Please note that B1/B4 related trophies also will become unavailable in same fashion as Gemstone failure trophy at the end of May when the entrance is closed.
Today we will delve into the question that many of you have been asking about: Gemstone changes. We originally had this question divided into three topics under upgrades, resources and meso costs, due to their individual sizes. However, as it will be much easier to understand our intent when viewed as a whole, we are combining all the Gemstone-related changes into one topic today to discuss in full.
As a reminder, here's a quick overview of what's to come in the Progression Improvement Update:
Progression Improvement Update (tentative date April 25th):
We've been saying that this is a big change and we really mean it! These changes will simplify the Gemstone system to be easier to understand and more accessible. Let's dive into this topic with an overview of how Gemstones will be changing.
Overview
To simplify Gemstones, we had to make some hard choices and remove parts you may have seen as critical. Let's start with what is likely the most controversial part of the changes: Removals.
Below is the list of systems and drops we will be removing:
Rusted Keys: With Rusted Keys removed, keys to Abandoned Mine B1/B4 will no longer drop.
We understand this will remove one potential source for the highly coveted Accessory Lock Scroll, and are working to determine what additional changes may be needed to compensate.
Additionally, we are aware that gathering and selling Rusted Keys is an activity some players depended on to make mesos. We believe that the changes we have made to progression and meso sinks should help counteract some of this loss.
Access to B1/B4 Dungeons: B1/B4 dungeons will be open to key holders for a month and the access to these dungeons will be closed at the end of May.
Gemstone-related items from Treva Shop
Gemstone-related drops from Chaos Raid Clears
Gemstone-related drops from Fortress Rumble Clears
Gemstone-related items from Daily Mission - Power Mission Box
I know this sounds like a lot of reduction, but here's what we will be adding in their stead:
Gemstone Boxes will allow you to choose the Gemstone type of your choice
Dust Boxes will allow you to choose the Dust color of your choice
All future Gemstones obtained will be account-bound (character-bound Gemstones obtained before the update will remain character-bound)
All Gemstone upgrades will be guaranteed
Gemstone extraction cost will be massively reduced
We intend to make Gemstones and Dust Boxes readily available and let you reap the benefits for putting in your effort. To achieve this, we will entirely remove random elements from Gemstone progression, greatly shorten the grind time, and significantly reduce related meso sinks. As a result, we expect Gemstone upgrades will now take roughly 20% of the time and require 20% of the mesos compared to before, prior to taking into account B1/B4 dungeon related costs.
Let's delve into the specifics of how this change will work.
Gemstone / Dust Gain
Here are the locations where you will be able to receive Gemstone-related resources after the Progression Improvement Update on April 25th:
Hard Adventure Dungeon Clear Rewards will include:
Gemstone / Dust Selection Box: Upon opening, you can choose the type of Gemstone or color of Dust you receive. Up to 30 Tier 1 Gemstones or 1,800 Dust a week.
Stellar Glass can be converted to
Gem Dust Selection Box: Upon opening, you can choose the color of Dust you receive. Up to 1,000 Dust a week, same as current.
Guild Gemstone Shop
Gem Dust Selection Box: Upon opening, you can choose the color of Dust you receive. Up to 300 Dust a week.
The amount of Dust available will be highest in Hard Adventure Dungeons, followed by Stellar Glass and the Guild Gemstone Shop. All Gemstones received from the above locations will now be account-bound, whereas Dust will remain character-bound.
Gemstone Upgrades
Upgrading Gemstones requires 3 different colors of Dust, as well as a number of Crystal Fragments per attempt. The amount and success rate for each upgrade attempt, as well as the average number of materials, currently looks like the following.
We will keep the type of resources needed the same, but make each upgrade guaranteed after spending the following amounts:
On average, this change will reduce the average resource costs per successful upgrade of all types to 20% of the previous cost. Combined with Gemstone / Dust gain changes, the expected time it will take to upgrade all 9 Gemstones to Tier 10 will also be roughly 20% of the previous time.
Gemstone Extraction Cost
We are making Gemstone upgrades much easier to help you get your character stronger. But if the cost to extract Gemstones from sockets remained as is, we would be essentially asking you to get brand new sets of Gemstones whenever you find better accessories. Our newly proposed design is to make Gemstones readily available and allow you to have room to experiment with various types to find what works best for you. To truly achieve this, we will be massively reducing the amount of Crystal Fragments needed to extract Gemstones with this update as well.
As you can see, the new required amounts will be insignificant compared to the amounts required in the current system, which allows you to freely equip/extract Gemstones for experimentation.
Beyond
With Gemstones being one of the items that took tons of time and resources to upgrade, you may be curious what will be left to tackle after we make Gemstones more accessible with this update. It has been our general plan to review in-game systems and remove the random elements from them. Pretty soon, some of you may feel like you've run out of things to do in MapleStory 2.
Fear not! The Summer Expansion update we are preparing is packed with vast and exciting new content. There will be tons of new challenges and activities filled with adventure! We're also actively improving future content, based on the current changes we have been making with Project New Leaf. We will follow through with our promise of Project New Leaf, improving MapleStory 2 by listening to you, our players.
We kindly ask that the discussions in the threads above be focused on the information shared in today's blog. Please do note that many things we discuss here can change by nature of opening up these topics early for discussion. We'll always do our best to improve upon our ideas based on your feedback. As always, thank you for being patient with us and for being a part of Project New Leaf!

[Updated April 17]: Thanks for all the feedback! We're updating this blog to inform you that with this change, the Socket unlock failure trophies will no longer be available to obtain after the update and will be removed from your trophy list unless you earned them before the Progression Improvement Update on April 25th. The Socket Unlock Attempt and Success trophies will remain visible and attainable after the update.
Another common question was what would happen in regards to the Socket Unlock Luck Increase perks with Prestige Rank benefits. We will be replacing those bonuses with Crystal Fragment cost reductions when unlocking sockets:
----
Dear Maplers,
We successfully launched our Economy Improvements Update today! We're seeing players putting in good use of our new Sticker system in world chat, and the Black Market listings has been moving nonstop since the maintenance ended. We hope you are having good luck catching an Epic Pet!
Let's recap what we've set out to do with Project New Leaf today. First, here's a quick recap of what has been implemented so far:
And a quick overview of what's to come in the Progression Improvement Update:
Progression Improvement Update (tentative date April 25th):
Accessory Socket Opening Changes
Enchanting Changes
Gemstone Upgrades and Resource Gathering Changes
...and more!
We've been teasing the schedule of new changes coming down the pipeline since the start of this year, and we are finally ready to reveal the details of our final Project New Leaf Update: Progression Improvement. As most of you are aware, the RNG elements of MapleStory 2's main progression has been one of, if not the most common feedback we received from our survey. Today we will first dive into one aspect of it: Accessory Socket Opening Changes and how we'd like to tackle them. I want this to be a clear signal, a turning point towards the standard of experience that we'd like to deliver to you with MapleStory 2.
Without further ado, let's dive in to today's topic.
Accessory Socket Opening Changes
Opening accessory sockets for Gems is a system that you don't have to use often, but its random elements combined with the accessory fusion meso cost makes it painful for players to progress through. The current success rates and requirements are below.
Current Requirements: Lv.50 Epic Accessories
With the Progression Improvement Update, we will be changing the rates and requirements as follows.
Proposed Requirements: Lv.50 Epic Accessories
These sorts of changes will also be made for all other Accessories (including Legendary accessories): Guaranteed Unlock Chance and a doubled catalyst cost.
Essentially, we are making each attempt now guaranteed with double the amount of accessories needed while keeping the Crystal Fragment cost the same. On average, the amount of resources you'd use to open all 3 sockets is lowered in this new system while also making the resources you need to spend completely predictable (and giving RNG the boot!).
Additionally, we are examining how these changes will affect related trophies, and will announce any changes to them in the future.
We understand that opening accessory sockets is only one of the issues with MapleStory 2's progression. With the accessory fusion cost also reduced, these changes may address one of today's biggest pain points. At this stage, we are considering making changes to the rest of the topics mentioned within the Progression Improvement Update in a similar fashion as this: Keeping as much of the core functionality as possible while making more upgrades and improvements guaranteed to succeed.
It's the second update for Project New Leaf, and this month we're making some big changes to the MapleStory 2 economy! Learn about the Meso Market, get better odds on catching Epic Pets, take advantage of cheaper costs to change the attributes on Legendary Gear and much more with the Economy Improvements Update!
Meso Market
The Meso Market allows Maplers to supplement their bank by purchasing blocks of 5,000,000 mesos from fellow players, and for those with a wealth and a half of mesos to earn some Blue Merets by selling off what they have to spare. You can purchase mesos with Meso Tokens, a new currency that can only be used on the Meso Market, and convert into Blue Merets for the fellow Mapler selling the mesos.
Meso Tokens can only be purchased via NX Prepaid, and as such is only available to players on the Nexon Launcher. You can only purchase up to 20,000,000 mesos per month to better manage the impact this new system will have on gear progression. Additionally, each account may only list up to 25,000,000 mesos per day. This system will allow players that have less time to gather mesos to get a boost to their progression, without making spending money the best way to gear up fast.
Meso Market Details
Listing Mesos:
All Meso Market listings must be for 5,000,000 mesos
An account may create up to 5 listings (25,000,000 total mesos) per day
Your listed price must be within 20% of the current average price
Europe, North America and Australia Regions: 500 Meso Token initial price
South America Region: 300 Meso Token initial price
Price is how many Meso Tokens your listing will cost to purchase, and how many Blue Merets you will receive when your listing is purchased
There are no transaction fees
Canceling a Meso Listing will return your mesos through the in-game mail, but will not increase the number of listings you can create that day
If your Meso Listing expires, you can recover your mesos by clicking the "Retrieve" button on the listing itself, which will send your mesos back to you via the in-game mail
Buying Meso Tokens:
A buyer opens the "Buy Merets" menu and purchases Meso Tokens
100 Meso Tokens can be purchased for 1,000 NX
These tokens have the same value as Blue Merets, but can only be purchased with NX Prepaid and can only be spent in the Meso Market
To minimize the impact of fraudulent activities, Meso Tokens can only be purchased with NX Prepaid and, as a result, are only available to players that have launched via the Nexon Launcher
Meso Tokens can only be used in the Meso Market
Buying Mesos:
The buyer goes to the Meso Market and purchases the listing of 5,000,000 mesos for the listed price
The buyer pays via Meso Tokens
The amount of Meso Tokens you spend when purchasing a Meso Listing is the amount of Blue Merets that the other player receives (again, no transaction fees)
Buyers can purchase up to 4 listings per month (thus, a maximum of 20,000,000 mesos purchased per month)
Purchased mesos will be delivered through the in-game mail
Epic Pets
Epic Pets are one of the elusive status symbols in MapleStory 2. Hard to find, hard to tame, but they're powerful helpers in the field and are adorable to boot! We're lowering the barrier and making them more prolific in MapleStory 2, increasing your odds of catching an Epic Pet by 600%. Hit the wilds and save those G3 Snares for red-metered pets for the best chance for an Epic Pet, and you'll have a buddy backing you up in no time!
Meso Sink Reduction
We also took aim at two particularly hefty resource sinks that have been holding players back from getting their equipment in top shape. While we'll be aiming to have more changes to Meso Sinks and other aspects of the economy with the Progression Improvement Update (tentatively planned for the end of April), but for now, enjoy cheaper Accessory Fragment Fusions and Legendary Gear Attribute changes!
Meso Sink Reduction Details
All Accessory Fragment Fusion costs have been reduced by 90%
Epic Accessory Fragment Fusion now costs 50,000 mesos, down from 500,000 mesos
Legendary Accessory Fragment Fusion now costs 100,000 mesos, down from 1,000,000 mesos
Legendary Gear Attribute Change Crystal Fragment costs for Headgear, Top, Bottom, Gloves and Shoes have been reduced:
First attempt reduced to 400 Crystal Fragments, down from 2,000
Subsequent attempts costs 400 additional fragments per attempt, down from ~25% increase from the previous attempt

[Updated March 22]: Thank you for all the feedback! As mentioned in each blog, we intend to take a good listen to what you, our players, have to say to guide us in making the right decisions. This is the heart of Project New Leaf.
Based on the feedback we observed, we will cancel the portion of the event that grants +30% bonus attack in Chaos Raids. Instead we will extend the portion that grants Double Drops in Hard Adventure Dungeons by another month until the Progression Improvement Update arrives on April 25th. Please note that this will be a one-time and final extension of the Hard Adventure Dungeon Double Drop event. We understand this particular event has been very helpful for a lot of players and has been an effective band-aid solution to the current progression issue. With the Progression Improvement Update on April 25th, we intend to permanently fix the progression issues and end the Hard Adventure Dungeon Double Drop event.
For those who are curious, the Fortress Rumbles Double Drop event will be applied as planned on March 28th. Similar to the Hard Adventure Dungeon Double Drop event, the Fortress Rumbles Double Drop event will start during the weekly reset time on March 29th at 12:00 AM UTC (March 28th at 5:00 PM PDT).
Thank you for your feedback and for being patient with us. See you in game! LAMBCOOK
We’ve discussed in-depth what kind of permanent changes are coming on March 28th with this month’s first two blogs. It’s time that we now start delving into some of the additional bits that we’ve concocted for the Economy Improvements Update. While these aren’t new or permanent changes, it will be an important crux of what our intentions are with Project New Leaf and getting you prepped for what’s to come in the future for MapleStory 2.
The end of the Dungeon Delight Event, and its replacement
Let’s dive right in!
Dungeon Delight Events
As we stated in our earlier Producer Blog and event notice, the Dungeon Delight Event will be concluding at 12:00 AM UTC on Friday, March 29th. In its place, we will start a new Dungeon Delight Event that gives +30% bonus attack in Chaos Raids and Double Drops during Fortress Rumbles until the Progression Improvement Update arrives on Thursday, April 25th. With Fairfight removed and the Dungeon Delight Event running until now, we believe that most players are at least nearly ready for Chaos Raids, but might have a difficult time contributing alongside the most experienced players. By adding increased bonus attack in Chaos Raids and Double Drops during Fortress Rumbles, players currently playing Hard Adventure Dungeons can now have a higher chance of obtaining legendary gear. We hope that this event will also help those who are currently enchanting legendary gear to get Double Drops and better prepare for our next update and the upcoming summer expansion. More details of this event will be shared with the Economy Improvement Update event post, so stay tuned.
Prelude to the Progression Improvement Update
It’s about time we get down to the core problem we’ve set out to tackle. RNG. Some big reveals for the Progression Improvement Update are coming up, and we are excited to share some of the details we’re locking down soon. As we’ve stated from the start, we are looking for ways to reduce random elements, and we’ll start to release news of changes to the following systems , starting next week:
We kindly ask that the discussions in the threads above be focused on the information shared in today’s blog. Please do note that many things we discuss here can change by nature of opening up these topics early for discussion. We’ll always do our best to improve upon our ideas based on your feedback. As always, thank you for being patient with us and for being a part of Project New Leaf!
