Dear Maplers,

Now that we've explored the Meso Market, it's time we dive into the other changes we're looking to make with the Economy Improvements Update (tentative date: March 28th).

Today's blog will cover:
  • Epic Pets
  • Meso Sink Reduction
To rehash what we currently have planned, here's the remaining changes currently scheduled with Project New Leaf.

Progression Improvement Update: Tentatively April 25th
  • Enchanting
  • Gemstone Upgrades
  • Accessory Socket Opening
  • Gemstone Resource Gathering
  • ...and more.
Without further ado, let's jump right in.

Epic Pets

For a lot of players in MapleStory 2, owning an Epic Pet has been an elusive dream. Epic Pets are extremely rare, and rightfully so given the benefits they can have. Epic Pets were originally reserved for those players who were lucky enough to find one, so they could hold their heads high after completing an impressive feat in the game. We don't want to change this dynamic, but we understand how sour one can feel when you've captured countless pets without finding an Epic Pet.

As such, we will be increasing the capture rate of Epic Pets by six-fold with our next update. This means it will be 6 times more likely that you will catch an Epic Pet when you put down any grade of Snares.

We feel that this increase will still reserve the rarity of Epic Pets, but also make finding one considerably less onerous for determined players.

For those wondering about other ways to improve the odds of capturing an Epic Pet, we definitely recommend using Dryad G3 Snare on red-metered pets at minimum, because this will offer you the highest chance of capturing one. The capture rate for an Epic Pet increases by about 250% per grade (G1 / G2 / G3) and about 200% per pet meter (green / yellow / red). This means you have about a 2500% better chance at finding an Epic Pet with G3 Snare on red-metered pets compared to G1 Snares on green-metered pets.

Meso Sink Reduction

Based on our survey and the feedback we gathered, the cost of mesos within certain systems has been a common pain point, as this became a wall preventing some players from progressing further. With all the changes we are planning to make through Project New Leaf, we decided to re-examine the economic effects of these systems and look for ways we can ease the burden caused by meso cost.

To do this right, we've decided to bring these adjustments in two phases, with the first part coming in the Economy Improvements Update, and the second part reserved for the Progression Improvement Update. At this time, we are focusing our changes to systems with repeated mesos costs that have been daunting for many players, so that these systems can become more accessible.

For the first iteration of the Meso Sink Reduction, we will be permanently adjusting the meso costs for the following systems:
  • Change Attributes for Legendary Gear meso cost reduced by up to 80%
  • Accessory Fragment Fusion meso cost reduced by 90%
Legendary Gear

Currently, Legendary Gear (Headgear / Top / Bottom / Gloves / Shoes) requires 2,000 Crystal Fragments on the first attempt at changing its attributes. This cost will be reduced to 400 Crystal Fragments. Further attempts will also cost less, with each attempt increasing by a flat 400 Crystal Fragments per attempt (800, then 1,200, then 1,600 and so on), instead of increasing exponentially (by ~25%) with each attempt. As an example, the 5th attempt going forward will cost you 2,000 Crystal Fragments, down from 4,880 Crystal Fragments.

Accessory Fragment Fusion

All Accessory Fragment Fusion costs will be reduced by 90%. As an example, Epic Accessory Fragments Fusion cost will be set to 50,000 mesos, down from 500,000 mesos. Legendary Accessory Fragment Fusion costs will be reduced to 100,000 mesos, down from 1,000,000 mesos.

Please note that these are permanent changes that not only affect current equipment, but future gear will also be set with the same mindset as above.

This is the first phase of Meso Sink Reduction. We will have the second phase of Meso Sink Reduction combined with the Progression Improvement Update and are already discussing internally. We think this will be the right method, given the level of changes we are planning to make.

It's time for the first update of Project New Leaf! Over the next few months as we build towards our next expansion, we're going to be unleashing a series of updates and improvements to MapleStory 2. With the feedback we've received, we're deploying the first set of changes, including a series of Quality of Life changes, a new item to help with gear and meso acquisition and a major change that many of you have been asking for...

Adventure Dungeon Fairfight

It's time to say farewell to Fairfight in all Adventure Dungeons! Maplers fighting their way through Normal and Hard Adventure Dungeons will now strike with their full power and deal full damage. Please note that with this change, the EXP earned from clearing Adventure Dungeons beyond daily and weekly cap has been reduced to 10%.

Fairfight will remain active within Fortress Rumbles, as those are meant to remain challenging content regardless of equipped gear. Additionally, while players battling World Bosses will still be affected by Fairfight, the health of all World Bosses has been reduced by 60%. This will make them much quicker for smaller groups to down, without allowing high-level players to kill World Bosses in low-level zones in a matter of seconds.

Trader's Ribbons

We're also adding Trader's Ribbons to MapleStory 2 to make Lv. 50 Epic and Legendary equipment tradeable to other players and sellable on the Black Market. Available only via Weekly Rank Rewards for some Chaos Raids and Fortress Rumbles, these new items will help players that get powerful but redundant gear ready their friends for the top-tier content (and make a few mesos on the side)!

Where to get Trader's Ribbons:
  • Chaos Raids:
    • Weekly Rank Rewards for the following Chaos Raids:
      • Hard Shadow Altar
      • Hard Moonlight Fortress
      • Ludibrium Clock Tower
      • Wrath of Infernog
      • Rank A: 14x Lv. 50 Trader's Ribbons
  • Fortress Rumbles
    • Weekly Rank Rewards for all Fortress Rumbles:
      • Rank A: 8x Lv. 50 Trader's Ribbons
Trader's Ribbons are character-bound, and the amount of Trader's Ribbons you will need to enable trading for Lv. 50 Epic or Legendary gears differs per grade and per gear type:
  • Lv. 50 Epic
    • Weapons
      • Two-Handed, Main Hand and Off-hand: 48 Trader's Ribbons
      • One-Handed: 24 Trader's Ribbons
    • Top/Bottom/Headgear/Gloves/Shoes: 24 Trader's Ribbons
    • Accessories: 15 Trader's Ribbons
  • Lv. 50 Legendary
    • Weapons
      • Two-Handed, Main Hand and Off-hand: 96 Trader's Ribbons
      • One-Handed: 48 Trader's Ribbons
    • Top/Bottom/Headgear/Gloves/Shoes: 48 Trader's Ribbons
    • Accessories: 30 Trader's Ribbons
Update (Feb. 28): This page initially did not list the Ribbon costs for Main Hand and Off-hand weapons. This has been corrected.

Dear Maplers,

We are about to embark on our first update after launching Project New Leaf with the Fairwell Fairfight update. Through the links we provided here, we've listened carefully to your feedback on these topics and would like to share our conclusions.

We noticed that while the Fairfight adjustments were welcomed in general, there were more concerns around the Trader's Ribbon item and how it may make MapleStory 2 pay-to-win. This has been a concern of ours as well, that Trader's Ribbons could potentially make illicit meso selling a greater issue. Here's what we have in mind to combat that:

Legendary Gear Included

Trader's Ribbons can be applied to Legendary gear up to Lv. 50. With end-game gear being tradeable, we understand the concern that we are allowing players to pay to reach the end-game. However, we assure you that this will not be the case for the new end-game gear that we are planning to release this summer in our next major expansion update. We will discuss this further as the expansion draws closer, but our current plan is that Trader's Ribbons won't be applicable to the final tier of gear.

Additionally, in order to better manage the distribution of Traders Ribbons and reduce the impact of players with a large number of well-geared characters, all Traders Ribbons will be character-bound.

One of our (many) goals with Project New Leaf is to help more players reach an appropriate level and gear score in order for them to enjoy the content we're preparing for summer. We believe that allowing tradeable Lv. 50 Legendary gear will help achieve this along with other changes we will be making with Project New Leaf.

Meso Market and Purchase Limit

There still remains the concern of players buying large sums of mesos to bypass all gear progression. We will address this by setting a reasonably low limit on meso trading per account when we release the Meso Market in a future update. This trading limit will restrict how many mesos can be purchased over a set period of time, and be set so that it's quite helpful for low-level players, but not beyond what you can normally earn.

This means our version of the Meso Market will mostly be a place where low-level players can gain some extra mesos for progression, as well as a place where well-equipped players can get Merets for cosmetic purposes.

Illegal Meso Buyers

Finally there is the issue of illegal meso purchases. Even if the Meso Market functions as we expect, players who purchase mesos illegally through meso sellers may get additional unfair advantages. As such, we will be enforcing a permanent ban policy for meso buyers to ensure that this type of offense is handled promptly.

Effective immediately, any accounts with confirmed purchases from meso sellers will be suspended for 15 days and have all purchased material removed for their first offense. These accounts will be permanently banned for their second offense. We considered making the first offense a permanent ban, but we wanted to make sure that the player in question fully understands that this activity is not permitted. We will also be stepping up our efforts to identify instances of illegal meso buying, along with the new punishment measures.

Sincerely,
LAMBCOOK
