Maps play an important role in our game. Depending on the type of map, players can adopt different combat strategies to get ahead. If you want to know how best to use open water, straits, and islands, this video will help you figure it out.
Theoretical Basis
Open water is a strong suit of battleships and long-range cruisers. Adepts of close-range encounters prefer to stick to islands close to Key Areas in the vicinity of the enemy's main attack directions.
Light and rapid-firing cruisers tend to prefer clusters of islands. The same can be said about destroyers. The latter also do well in open water. This is especially true for destroyers that rely on torpedoes.
Aircraft carriers are most often located behind the main forces. However, this ship type benefits from getting as close as possible to the enemy in battle, as it allows them to reduce the time it takes aircraft to reach their target.
Practical Tips
There are over 30 maps in our game. Each is used at a certain battle tier. There are places on maps where certain ships can be most effective or where their presence can be extremely useful for allies. Today, we’ll be highlighting three low-mid Tier maps: Archipelago, Big Race, and Solomon Islands.
Archipelago
There are four large islands in the center of the map that turn Key Area B in the Domination mode into a kind of arena. When playing a destroyer, you can slightly hold off capturing a Key Area or fighting same-type ships in this improvised arena.
Wait for your torpedoes to reload and try to launch them into the narrow strait between the islands. This way, the enemy who decides to duel will receive an unexpected and powerful blow. Helming a cruiser in battle, you can support allied destroyers that have nevertheless chosen to go to the center of the map. You can do this while being near one of the four islands. Don't forget about the torpedo threat and battleships that can deal a lot of damage to your cruiser.
Big Race
There are several interesting positions on this map. Cruisers can control the exit from the bay. The bay itself is another arena for fast destroyer battles. There are three small islands here that can serve as a cover or ambush spot. A protruding piece of land on the map can serve as a secluded spot for aircraft carriers. However, you should move there only in certain circumstances. For example, in case of danger from lines 9–10, or in the presence of ships that regularly spot your aircraft carrier. When taking a position, be aware of opponents who can break through from the side of the bay and quickly detect you.
Solomon Islands
The key point on the map is the strait between the three islands in the center of the game location. No one forbids you to advance there at the helm of a destroyer or cruiser from the first minutes, but keep in mind that you risk running into superior enemy forces. We recommend taking a position close to the strait. And then meet your opponent with torpedoes or artillery. There are also less obvious positions on the Solomon Islands map. A large island is cut by a small river, forming a gorge. Therefore, nearby battleships and cruisers can shoot across and thus reach their enemies on the other side of the island. Helming an aircraft carrier, you can come close to the large island. As mentioned previously, such a maneuver will reduce the time of aircraft approaching their target. This means that it will be possible to attack the enemy more often. When changing your position, make sure that you cannot be detected by opponents who have broken through from the flank or through the central strait.
In the next episode, we'll take a look at useful positions on higher-tier maps: Strait, Ring, New Dawn, and Fault Line. Stay tuned!

Hampshire has arrived in the Armory and Premium Shop!
You can celebrate the event with a new web campaign—choose a team and set off on a journey around the world to collect combat missions and themed rewards!
In 1932, three Surrey-class cruisers were meant to enter service in the Royal Navy. The design of the ships was based on Exeter, but with a 10,000-ton displacement and a fourth main battery turret added. However, the London Naval Treaty prevented that from happening. The introduced limitation on the total displacement of heavy cruisers forced Great Britain to cancel the Surrey order due to the total displacement limit being exhausted. Hampshire is our answer to the question: "What might the further development of the Surrey-class British cruisers have looked like?"
In honor of VIII Hampshire's release, we're launching a web campaign. Follow the instructions on the map to collect all the available rewards! Starts:Fri. 26 Aug. 07:00 CEST (UTC+2) Ends:Fri. 09 Sep. 07:00 CEST (UTC+2)
Around the World and a Little Bit Further
This time, you're about to set off on a journey around the world and uncover the mystery of the Navigators—a powerful ancient guild of seafarers and explorers of the depths. The web campaign consists of seven stages which must be completed sequentially. The final reward will depend on the team you decide to join. Over the entire journey, you'll be able to earn:
For completing the web campaign, you'll receive two Navigator Tokens—you can use these to get random VIII Hampshire bundles. Moreover, the web campaign is the only way you can obtain the Around the World themed patch and flag.

With the release of Update 0.11.9, any unspent Navigator Tokens will be converted into Free XP at the rate of 1:35,000.

VIII Hampshire is a British heavy cruiser that embodied the further development of the Surrey-class ships with the number of her main battery guns increased to ten.
If deemed necessary, balance changes may be applied to VIII Hampshire.
The ship comes with a permanent camouflage, and she has standard economic bonuses for her tier. She also earns more Credits per battle and has a reduced post-battle service cost. Commander retraining isn't required for this ship.
On April 4, we announced that Wargaming projects including World of Warships, will be operated by Lesta Games in Russia and Belarus. This was the first step, followed by months of hard work. The result is the complete structural and financial division of the two companies. Today, World of Warships and other products are operated by two independent companies: by Lesta Games in Russia and Belarus, and by Wargaming in all other countries.
The next big step is to launch a special transfer campaign for CIS players who wish to stay with Wargaming and continue playing on Steam.
Transfer is a crucial activity where every player from CIS realm will need to decide on how to continue playing the game. Below you can find the key points about this procedure:
In September, CIS servers will be turned off for Steam players.
If you already have an account on CIS region, you will have an opportunity to transfer your CIS account to EU region and continue playing on Steam.
If you don’t want to transfer your account to EU region, unfortunately, you will not be able to continue playing on Steam.
Providing high quality service and ensuring the comfort of our players will always remain our priority. We will keep your account progress and all applicable terms and conditions, including pricing principles, as well as the core set of services you are used to, no matter where you continue playing.
We understand that this is a big and serious decision for our players, and we will do our best to make it a smooth and easy experience for everyone.
Q: How long will the transfer option be available? A: The transfer campaign doesn’t have any planned end date. We want to make sure that all our players get a chance to move to EU region, including those who decided to take a break from the game at the moment. If this changes sometime in the future, we will let you know in advance.
Q: Can I transfer my EU, NA, ASIA account to another server during this transfer campaign? A: No, this transfer campaign will be aimed specifically at CIS-region players. Other regions remain without any changes.
Q: Can players transfer their clan to the EU? A: Yes, if requested by the Clan Commander.
Q: Will my progress, stats, purchases and resources be transferred as well? A: Yes, of course. Your progress, stats, purchases, resources etc. will be transferred to a new account on EU region with only a couple of exceptions. Game progress will not be saved, the ability to complete already started regional game events will be disabled.
Q: I play from Belarus or Russia and I want to transfer my account to EU region. Will I be able to make purchases in the game after the transfer? A: We will continue to accept all payment methods available in Steam. Therefore, you will be able to make purchases on EU region using payment methods that are available in Steam in your country.
Q: What if I don’t want to transfer my account to EU region? A: Unfortunately, in that case you will not be able to play World of Warships via Steam on your CIS-region account.
[/expand] We understand that you might have more questions about the transfer procedure. We will share the full transfer conditions and technical details for Steam players closer to the transfer launch which is currently planned for the middle of September. Stay tuned!
