Please note that the servers will be temporarily unavailable due to the release of an update. The schedule is available below. Maintenance times are tentative and subject to change. Please accept our apologies for any inconveniences.
The new update will go live some time after it's been downloaded because the client and server sides are updated separately. While the client begins to update immediately, it takes time for the servers to be updated across all regions.
Subtitles can be enabled in the video player separately.
Because of the updates being made to upgrades, the dismounting of them will be free of charge for a period of 1 week from the release of Update 0.9.1.
British Cruisers: Part 2 ● The Fifteenth Season of Ranked Battles ● Updates to Upgrades ● Updates to the Service Record ● Armory ● New Northern Waters Map ● Other Changes
British Cruisers: Part 2
A new line of British heavy cruisers has become available for all players to research.
Unique Features of the Ship Branch
Their powerful artillery can cause significant damage per salvo, but the guns have a relatively short firing range and arcing shell trajectory.
In contrast to light British cruisers, these ships have high-explosive shells in their arsenal that can cause heavy damage and have good chances of setting targets on fire.
Their ability to fire torpedoes one-by-one opens additional tactical options.
Strong armor protection for the central parts of the decks of ships of Tier VI and above, increases their survivability compared to other cruisers, with X Goliath's deck armor reaching a thickness of 40 mm.
Efficient Repair Party consumable.
Decent survivability, thanks to their durable armor and effective Repair Party. Their powerful guns with relatively short firing ranges predispose British heavy cruisers to medium-range artillery encounters.
You'll be able to learn more details about the British heavy cruisers later in a dedicated article on our website.
Directives
The new game event tasks you with completing 36 missions, spread across four Directives. The first Directive will become available with the release of Update 0.9.1, right after the necessary technical work has finished. Those that follow will be unlocked each week. The ultimate reward for completing all Directives is cruiser VI London.
Completing missions will reward you with signals, expendable camouflage patterns, credits, Coal, and Free XP. Completing Directives will reward you with Royal Tokens.
Royal Tokens
You can exchange Royal Tokens for doubloons, signals, Union Jack camouflage patterns, credits, days of Premium Account, and the main reward—the new unique British Commander, Andrew Cunningham!
You can get Royal Tokens for completing the event's Directives, Daily Missions, and Daily Challenges for warships VI London, VIII Cheshire, and VIII Albemarle. You can also obtain Royal Tokens from random bundles that are available in exchange for doubloons in the Armory.
With the release of Update 0.9.2, Royal Tokens will only be obtainable from random bundles in exchange for doubloons. When Update 0.9.3 hits the servers, Royal Tokens will be converted into credits at the rate of 1:9,000.
A new unique Commander
Andrew Cunningham has the following talents:
Lightning Fast: the speed of your ship and squadrons increases by 5% after scoring two "Caused flooding" ribbons.
Consumables Expert: the number of consumable charges for your ship increases by one after destroying two enemy ships.
"Sink, Burn, Destroy!": the reload time of your ship’s main battery guns and torpedo launchers, as well as aircraft restoration time, reduces by 10% after earning the “Witherer” achievement.
Each of these talents can be activated only once per battle. His talents are unavailable in Clan Battles or Training Rooms.
This British Commander also has two enhanced skills:
Jack of All Trades: −10% to the reload time of all mounted consumables, instead of the standard −5%.
Aircraft Armor: −11.5% to the continuous damage of AA guns, instead of the standard −10%.
Arms Race is a game mode in which special buff areas appear on the map. If you manage to enter an area and capture it before the enemy does, your entire team will receive a bonus to their combat characteristics that will last until the end of the battle. When you capture another area with the same buff, its efficiency increases further.
At a certain point in time after the start of a battle, a Key Area will appear in the center of the map. Its diameter will shrink over time, and the team that captures it will be able to quickly gain a point advantage and ultimately win.
We've reworked the bonuses given by buffs. They now also apply to carrier squadrons and provide:
Increased ship speed and a faster rudder-shift time; reduced aircraft engine boost cooldown time.
Continuous restoration of HP as a percentage of the maximum HP pool for ships and aircraft.
Faster reload time of the main battery and torpedo armament; faster aircraft restoration time on a carrier's deck.
Faster reload time of ship and squadron consumables.
Updates to Upgrades
In Update 0.9.1, many old upgrades will be updated and some new ones will be added. These changes will make the selection of upgrades more interesting and diverse.
We've also removed all type and tier restrictions for any special upgrades that improve the efficiency of ship consumables, provided that the ship has the respective slot.
Some upgrades will be replaced with new ones. If you have any of these upgrades already mounted on your ships, they will be replaced with their new versions. You will get compensation in the form of credits for any upgrades in your Inventory that are removed from the game, and the amount of credits provided will be equal to the removed upgrade's full cost.
Detailed list of changes
New upgrades
Engine Room Protection (second slot):
This upgrade combines the bonuses provided by the Propulsion Modification 1 and Steering Gears Modification 1 upgrades which are scheduled to be removed from the game:
−20% to the chances of critical damage to the engine and steering gears
−20% to the repair time of the engine and steering gears
This upgrade cannot be mounted on an aircraft carrier.
Torpedo Tubes Modification 1 (third slot):
+20% to the traverse speed of torpedo tubes
−40% to the chances of critical damage to torpedo tubes
+5% to the speed of shipborne torpedoes
This upgrade cannot be mounted on an aircraft carrier.
Aerial Torpedoes Modification 1 (third slot):
+5% to the speed of torpedoes dropped from the air
This upgrade can be mounted on an aircraft carrier only.
Torpedo Lookout System (fifth slot):
Replaces the Target Acquisition System Modification 1 upgrade and provides the following bonuses:
Increases the range of assured acquisition of torpedoes to a fixed value of 1.8 km (this range can be further extended by learning the Vigilance skill)
Please note: the upgrade doesn't extend the torpedo acquisition range for the Hydroacoustic Search consumable.
The Target Acquisition System Modification 1 upgrade was rarely used by players, and wasn't as efficient as the Concealment System Modification 1 upgrade. We've introduced changes to this upgrade in order to make it more relevant.
The bonus of +20% to the acquisition range of torpedoes heavily depended on their detectability range: this bonus was ineffective against torpedoes with low detectability, and very effective against torpedoes with high detectability.
The new bonus doesn't depend on the characteristics of any approaching torpedoes. You will always be able to spot torpedoes at a fixed distance of 1.8 km without taking the effects of the Vigilance skill into consideration. This change will allow your ship to actively counter the torpedo armament of your enemy.
We wanted to set a fixed assured acquisition range of 2 km and totally eliminate situations where the enemy detects you when you haven't spotted them. That's why we've replaced the bonus for the range of assured acquisition of ships in the game.
This upgrade cannot be mounted on an aircraft carrier.
Ship Consumables Modification 1 (fifth slot):
+10% to the action time of ship consumables
This upgrade cannot be mounted on an aircraft carrier.
Squadron Consumables Modification 1 (fifth slot):
+50% to the action time of squadron consumables
This upgrade can be mounted on an aircraft carrier only.
Auxiliary Armaments Modification 2 (sixth slot):
This upgrade will replace the AA Guns Modification 2 and Secondary Battery Modification 2 upgrades that are scheduled to be removed from the game:
+15% to the continuous damage of AA guns
+15% to the damage within the explosion radius of shells fired by AA defenses
−20% to the secondary battery reload time
+2 explosions in AA salvos when the Defensive AA Fire consumable is active
Changes to upgrades
Defensive AA Fire Modification 1 (special upgrade; second slot):
Added a bonus reducing the cooldown time of the Defensive AA Fire consumable by 10%
Main Battery Modification 2 (third slot):
Removed the penalty to the main battery gun reload time
AA Guns Modification 1 (third slot):
The bonus providing additional explosions in AA salvos has been replaced with a 20% reduction in the preparation time of the priority AA sector.
This upgrade cannot be mounted on an aircraft carrier.
The bonus providing a certain number of explosions was ineffective for most ships whose AA defenses produce a lot of explosions, and for some ships—especially destroyers—it didn't work at all. The new bonus reducing the AA priority sector preparation time will be effective on any ship that has AA armament. This is because the priority sector, in addition to reinforcing the continuous AA damage, deals damage as a percentage of the enemy squadron's current HP. The exact percentage depends only on your ship's tier.
Enhanced Countermeasures (a unique upgrade for cruiser Worcester; fifth slot):
The bonus applied to the action time of the Surveillance Radar consumable has been increased from 10% to 20%
This bonus has been improved in order to highlight the difference between X Worcester's unique upgrade and the new Ship Consumables Modification 1 upgrade, which provides a similar bonus, is situated in the same slot, and is available on other ships.
Unique Upgrades
As the opening move towards the changes that have been promised for unique upgrades, we've updated the way in which they are obtained. With the release of Update 0.9.3, unique upgrades will appear in the Armory's Research Bureau. The combat missions for unique upgrades will also change.
With the release of Update 0.9.1, you cannot get combat missions for unique upgrades.
The end date for any combat missions you have already received will be December 31, 2020.
We're going to revamp the existing upgrades and also add new upgrades in future. Stay tuned for more news!
Updates to the Service Record
The order in which in-game possibilities unlock has been changed.
The number of battles required to reach the majority of Service Record levels has been reduced.
The rewards granted for opening various levels of the Service Record have been updated.
You can learn more details about the changes to the Service Record in the game client.
Please note: all players who started playing before the release of Update 0.9.1 will receive all the newly added rewards for the levels they have already reached, minus the rewards they had received in the old version of the Service Record.
Thus, any players who have already reached the final level in their Service Record by the time that Update 0.9.1 is released will receive 15,000 Coal, 4 days of Premium Account, a supercontainer, and nine daily containers (with five More Resources containers among them), as well as upgrades, expendable camouflage patterns, and economic and special signals.
Armory
When Update 0.9.1 hits the servers, Shipbuilding Tokens will be converted into credits at the rate of 1:7,500.
The unique historical Commander, Philippe Auboyneau, has been added. He's available in exchange for for 175,000 Coal. He has the unique Sparks of Resistance, Fully Armed, and Speed and Composure talents, as well as the enhanced Survivability Expert skill.
Effective as of the release of Update 0.9.3, the following ships will no longer be available in the Armory: X Smolensk, IX Jean Bart, IX Neustrashimy, VII Flint, and IX Black.
Smolensk and Jean Bart have become very popular warships for their tiers. In order to maintain the proper level of diversity in teams in terms of the ships they are made up of, these ships will no longer be available to obtain for an undefined period of time, but may return in future.
For a number of reasons, Neustrashimy, Flint, and Black are not currently strongly sought after in exchange for Steel. That is why they will no longer be available in exchange for Steel, but will later become available in exchange for Coal. However, this will be after 6 months at the earliest.
We understand that accumulating resources for ships is a long process, which is why we wanted to warn you in advance so that any interested players can still steer these ships into their Ports before Update 0.9.3 goes live.
New Northern Waters Map
The map is designed for Tier VIII–X battles in the Epicenter and Domination modes, with three Key Areas.
Battles will be fought in the harsh Northern territories, among snow-blanketed islands where the sun appears for only several hours each day.
The map is divided into three parts:
The western part is an open-water space with several large islands, providing good possibilities for battleships and destroyers to maneuver.
The central part is also open water, but at the same time it contains islands that will allow you to find shelter from any fire from the flanks. Besides that, the location of islands and their landscapes make it possible to push through the center into the flanks.
The eastern part has many islands behind which cruisers and destroyers can find shelter from enemy fire. This part is suitable for those players who prefer inflicting sudden attacks on the enemy, and who can skillfully make use of limited shelter.

Interface Changes and Improvements
Changes to Armament Panel in Battle
For ships and squadrons, we've changed the icons and exterior view of the indicators on the armament panel.
When in battle, UI elements can now be hidden using Ctrl+J.
Reworked the icon for the destroyer ship type.
Display of AA defense characteristics
The display of AA defense characteristics in the Port has been updated:
AA defense parameters that are displayed in the Port have been changed: Now the players can view the following parameters:
Average continuous damage
Damage per second within a shell's explosion radius
Maximum priority sector reinforcement
AA gun maximum firing range
A pop-up tooltip with detailed parameters has been added for each position in the AA defense characteristics.
The information you can view during battle on the tooltip called by pressing the H key has been changed.
Please note: average damage is calculated by summing up the damage dealt by all AA defense zones. The damage dealt by each AA defense zone, taking into account its accuracy, is multiplied by the "weight" coefficient of the particular AA defense zone in relation to the ship's overall air defense capabilities. This coefficient is equal to the ratio between the firing range of a particular AA defense zone and the maximum firing range of the ship's AA defenses. With this in mind, to calculate the average continuous damage we use the total damage dealt by the long-range AA defenses (as this range extends over the entire AA firing range of the ship), and part of the damage dealt by the medium- and short-range AA defenses—depending on their firing range.
Game Balance Changes
In Update 0.9.1, we've changed the characteristics of several ships, having analyzed their combat performance and taken player feedback into account. Such changes were required in order to carefully adjust the balance of selected warships. We'll continue to introduce changes in the updates that will follow, if deemed necessary.

World of Warships is the largest virtual shipyard in the world. The quality of the work done by our artists improves each year, and the requirements for the accuracy of the models they create grow respectively.
Unfortunately, the in-game camera doesn't allow you to see all the details and beauty. In the Dry Dock show, you'll be able to see the refined beauty of our in-game models and duly appreciate the immaculate details of the various objects on their decks.
Today, we're focusing on the French Tier IX Premium battleship, Jean Bart. Built under the 1935 shipbuilding program, this Richelieu-class battleship was commissioned after World War II. The battleship resisted the Allied landings near Casablanca in 1942, and was badly damaged by airstrikes and artillery fire. The ship was finally completed after the war. She received the most advanced AA artillery available for her time, which significantly enhanced her AA defenses.

Journey to the West
Cruiser VIII Wukong and battleship IX Bajie are two new Pan-Asian ships named after the characters of the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West”—Monkey King Sun Wukong and wizard Zhu Bajie. Bundles comprising ships, unique Commanders, rare expendable camouflages, economic signals, and other in-game items are available in the Premium Shop at great discounts. Bundles are available for purchase until:Mon. 10 Feb. 06:00 CET (UTC+1)
VIII Wukong is a cruiser named after the Monkey King—one of the main mythological characters in Chinese culture. Sun Wukong is an immortal demon who acquired extraordinary powers after long years of wandering in the pursuit of spiritual perfection. His adventures are described in the Chinese classical novel "Journey to the West." In World of Warships, the cruiser represents Pan-Asia at Tier VIII. She carries a combination of French artillery and Pan-Asian long-range deepwater torpedoes.
Key features:
Nine 203 mm guns placed in three turrets. The cruiser can boast of having artillery with a good range and a fast reload time for the caliber
Two triple-tube torpedo launchers. The deepwater torpedoes of this ship have a low detectability range; good torpedo range for her tier—12 km; and a high maximum damage of 18,400 HP per hit, but they are not capable of striking destroyers
The Torpedo Reload Booster consumable, placed in a separate slot, allows her to launch one torpedo salvo 8 seconds after another several times during the course of a battle
The Spotting Aircraft consumable temporarily extends the firing range of her main guns
She earns more credits per battle, and her permanent camouflage adds a 50% XP bonus per battle and reduces the cost of the ship's post-battle service by 10%
For a detailed look at the ship's technical specifications, follow this link.
Bajie
IX Bajie is a battleship named after a half-man, half-pig being, and one of the main mythological characters in Chinese culture. Zhu Bajie is a wizard who achieved immortality, but was later expelled from the heavens and condemned to walk the earth as punishment for his human passions. His adventures are described in the Chinese classical novel "Journey to the West." In World of Warships, the ship represents Pan-Asia at Tier IX.
Key features:
Nine 410 mm guns placed in three turrets. All the guns are mounted at the fore end of the ship. The battleship has artillery with a medium range for her tier and enjoys good shell grouping
Good secondary battery with a 7 km standard range and chances between 8–10% of setting the target on fire, depending on the gun type
Access to the Spotting Aircraft consumable, which increases her firing range, or the Fighter consumable, which is used to repel air attacks
She earns more credits per battle, and her permanent camouflage adds a 100% XP bonus per battle and reduces the cost of the ship's post-battle service by 20%
For a detailed look at the ship's technical specifications, follow this link.

Season features
On all maps, the following rules apply:
Number of Key Areas: 3
Capture time: 40 seconds
Points from a captured Key Area: 3 points per 4 seconds
The main feature of the Season is a guaranteed appearance of the cyclone on the Mountain Range, Land of Fire, and North maps. Unlike Random Battles, cyclones work according to strict rules in the new Clan Battles Season:
They appear in five minutes after a battle begins
The visibility range drops to 12 km in 1 minute
A cyclone rages for 6 minutes, after which the visibility gradually returns to standard values within a period of 2 minutes
These settings, coupled with the strictly defined conditions of the cyclone’s occurrence, will make team tactics and gameplay more varied by reducing the engagement distance between opponents. The visibility range of 12 km will prevent cruisers equipped with the Surveillance Radar consumable from discovering enemy ships while remaining undetected themselves.
Clan Ships
When the Season starts, any player who plays a Clan, Co-op, or Random Battle steering a Tier VIII–X ship, will be given a set of three special Tier X ships for temporary use: X [Großer Kurfürst], X [Zaō], and X [Grozovoi]. On February 3, these will be replaced by X [Montana], X [Moskva], and X [Shimakaze]. The final trio—X [Yamato], X [Hindenburg], and X [Gearing] will arrive in your Port on February 17.

British Cruisers: Early Access
British heavy cruisers V Hawkins, VI Devonshire, VII Surrey, and VIII Albemarle are arriving in Early Access. To obtain them, exchange the new event resource—British Tokens—in the Armory for random bundles which can drop the new ships.
With the release of Update 0.9.1, Tier V–X British heavy cruisers will become available for all players to research in the Tech Tree.
What are the distinctive features of British heavy cruisers?
Their guns can cause significant damage per salvo, but have a relatively short firing range and arching shell trajectory.
Unlike British light cruisers, the nation’s heavy cruisers can use high-explosive shells.
Tube-by-tube torpedo launching capabilities.
Durable armor in the central part of their decks for Tier VI ships and higher give representatives of the new branch greater survivability in comparison to other cruisers.
Efficient Repair Party consumable: restores 50% of citadel damage, as opposed to the standard 10% for this ship type. Starting from Tier VIII, Repair Party restores 2% of the ship’s maximum HP per second instead of the standard 0.5%.
All researchable British heavy cruisers can choose between Hydroacoustic Search and Defensive AA Fire.
Cruisers IX Drake and X Goliath have even more powerful artillery: main guns with a caliber of 234 mm and high-explosive shells that can penetrate armor up to 58 mm thick. Additionally, their Repair Party consumables are capable of restoring 60% of non-citadel damage.
Directives
The new game event tasks you with completing 36 missions spread across four Directives. The first Directive will become available with the release of Update 0.9.0, while those that follow will be unlocked each week. Completing missions will bring you signals, expendable camouflages, and credits; completing Directives will reward you with British Tokens.
British Tokens
British Tokens can be obtained from Daily Shipments or earned by completing Directives and Daily Missions. In a new Armory section, you can exchange the Tokens for random bundles which can drop British heavy cruisers V Hawkins, VI Devonshire, VII Surrey, or VIII Albemarle. Each ship comes with the Victorian White permanent camouflage.

Game Balance Changes
German Tier X cruiser Hindenburg
The reload time of her main guns has been reduced from 10.5 to 9.8 seconds.
Boosting her reload speed will improve the cruiser's combat performance.
American Tier X battleship Montana
The amount of HP restored by her Repair Party consumable has been increased from 0.5% to 0.66% of the maximum HP pool per second.
The parameters of X Montana’s Repair Party are now equivalent to those of the same consumable on other researchable U.S. battleships.
Soviet Tier X battleship Kremlin
The HP pool of her AA mounts has been reduced by half.
In addition to her good armor and large HP pool, X Kremlin has highly efficient AA guns that were previously too hard to destroy. This meant that the battleship was able to enjoy solid protection against aircraft for the duration of an entire battle. The change will make it easier for aircraft carriers to attack the battleship in the middle stages of a battle, at the point when some of her AA mounts have been destroyed.
European Tier VII destroyer Błyskawica
The horizontal aiming angles of her main guns have been extended on both sides:
First turret: by 10 degrees
Second turret: by 1 degree
Fourth turret: by 15 degrees
The traverse angles of her torpedo tubes have been extended by:
8 degrees to the bow
2 degrees to the stern
The new angles will make shooting and torpedo launching more comfortable.
French Tier III destroyer Fusilier
The HP pool of her standard hull has been reduced from 9,300 to 7,900.
The HP pool of her researchable hull has been reduced from 10,900 to 9,300.
These changes will reduce the overall battle efficiency of the ship and balance it with that of other Tier III destroyers.
French Tier IX destroyer Mogador
The ship's detectability range has been increased:
By sea: from 9.04 to 9.54 km
By air: from 4.35 to 4.59 km
After firing her main guns while in smoke: from 3.7 to 3.96 km
The detectability range of her torpedoes has been increased from 1.4 to 1.8 km
French Tier X destroyer Kléber
The ship's detectability range has been increased:
By sea: from 8.88 to 9.88 km
By air: from 4.83 to 5.38 km
After firing her main guns while in smoke: from 3.63 to 4.15 km
The detectability range of her torpedoes has been increased from 1.4 to 1.8 km
Their detectability parameters and high speeds previously enabled IX Mogador and X Kléber to perform surprise attacks without giving the enemy enough time to respond. This ability, combined with the main strength of French destroyers—their efficient main guns—made these ships too powerful in comparison with other destroyers.
French Tier X cruiser Henri IV
The time it takes for her engine to reach full power has been increased.
The acceleration parameters with the Engine Boost consumable activated have been changed.
Due to her Engine Boost consumable and high standard speed, X Henri IV was able to avoid enemy fire by reducing or increasing her speed. Now the ship will accelerate and stop more smoothly. With Engine Boost activated, her acceleration will be approximately the same as her standard acceleration without the effects of the consumable prior to the change.
Visual and Technical Enhancements
The following maps have been reworked to accommodate the new lighting model and enhanced HDR technology: Warrior’s Path, Okinawa, Sea of Fortune, The Atlantic, and Trap.
We've also improved the water reflections and rendering of shadows cast by static objects.
We've updated the Additional Content settings. Now you can enjoy the bonuses provided by camouflages even when their display is disabled. In this case, the standard permanent camouflage or, in case a ship doesn’t have one, the Type 5 camouflage will be displayed. Under the Exterior tab, such camouflages are marked with a special icon.
We've improved the performance of the Port. Campaigns, combat missions, and other windows with multiple elements will now open faster.
The armor layout in the Port and the way that armor is displayed on a ship have been updated. More colors are now used to display elements of different thicknesses, and the Plating armor group has been divided into two sections: Ship's Ends and Torpedo Protection. Only the thicknesses and armor groups that the selected ship actually has will be displayed.
Content Additions and Changes
We’ve added a new expendable camouflage—Volunteer—to reward World of Warships volunteers.
The following permanent camouflages, available in exchange for doubloons, have been added to the Camouflage tab in the Exterior section: Royal Navy for VIII Lightning[/b] and VI Gallant[/b]; National for VI Warspite[/b], VI Admiral Graf Spee[/b], VI Shinonome[/b]; and The Republic for VIII Richelieu[/b] and VIII Gascogne[/b].
I Gryf, II Tátra, III Romulus, IV Klas Horn, V Visby, VI Västerås, VII Skåne, VIII Öland, IX Östergötland, X Halland, X Småland have been added for testing by developers, volunteers, and community contributors.
Please remember that with the release of Update 0.9.0, all unused Mediterranean Tokens will be converted into credits at a rate of 1:22,500.
Other Changes and Improvements
Fixed a bug which caused the shadow of the airship to disappear in the New York and Hamburg Ports.
Added text and sound notifications for the beginning of a cyclone and reaching the minimum spotting range during a cyclone.
Updated the display of V Émile Bertin’s main gun armor.
Fixed a bug which caused the incorrect indication of an aircraft's engine boost reload time in the description in the Port when the presence of Commander skills or upgrades influenced the engine boost time.
National flags are now replaced with the Halloween flag when the Infernal camouflage is used.
Fixed a bug which caused the water-churning animation of a sinking ship to be abruptly interrupted.
Enhanced Spectator Mode: the display of shells, torpedoes, and Surveillance Radar effects for spectators have been fixed.
Fixed a bug which caused rudder shifting in autopilot mode when moving along a straight course.
Made minor changes to the armor geometry of IV Imperator Nikolai I and IV Hermes.

Subheadings have been aligned on the post-battle statistics screen. Tooltips display a shortened form of the shell types on the Detailed Report screen.
Fixed a bug that prevented the gun shields of VII Sims B from being displayed.
Fixed camera bugs that occurred when playing IX Alaska B, VII Scharnhorst B, VIII ARP Takao, and X Shimakaze.
Fixed an erroneous description of the GFCS module on VII Scharnhorst and VII Poltava.
The ship specifications block is no longer displayed in the Port if there are no ships on the account.
The jewel atop the crown of Britain’s undisputed sovereignty over the European seas, forged in an age of rapid evolution for the Royal Navy.
HMS Indomitable, with her armored flight deck, expanded aircraft facilities, and heavy anti-aircraft artillery, strove to be a jack of all trades in the midst of a war that would put every conceivable aspect of naval combat to the test.
History
In April 1937, the first of four planned Illustrious-class aircraft carriers was laid down at the Vickers-Armstrong shipyards at Barrow-in-Furness, England. This first, fully-fledged, class of modern British carriers was meant to serve as the proving ground for a new Royal Navy doctrine that called for maximizing carriers’ fixed defenses, both active and passive. Lacking effective radar, fighter planes couldn’t be expected to scramble in time to intercept an incoming attack in conditions of poor visibility. As a result, the Illustrious-class ships sacrificed plane capacity for an armored “box” that encased their hangars, including 76 mm of plating on the flight deck. This feature was a true rarity for its time, and one that wouldn’t be replicated abroad until 1941 with the Japanese aircraft carrier Taiho.
By November 1937, the fourth and final ship of the Illustrious series—Indomitable—was laid down at the same English shipyard. Due to delays in the delivery of required materials, construction was put on hold and the Admiralty took the opportunity to modify Indomitable’s design. The new requirements called for an increase in airplane capacity from 36 to 48, while keeping her weight in line with her three unmodified sister ships. To achieve this, an additional hangar was added above the originally planned one, and some armor was shaved off the sides and lower decks around the “box,” while the flight deck plating was left untouched.
Indomitable was completed and entered service in 1941, shortly before the Japanese Empire joined the war on the side of the Axis. In January 1942, she was assigned to the Eastern Fleet—based in the Indian Ocean—to curtail the rapid advance of the Japanese Navy in the East Indies. Before leaving the Indian Ocean, Indomitable would provide air support for the invasion of Madagascar.
With the Battle of Midway sending any chances of further carrier threats to the bottom of the sea, Indomitable was freed up to be sent to the Mediterranean in July 1942 to partake in Operation Pedestal—a heavily armed resupply convoy for the crucial island of Malta. Air cover was essential to the mission’s success, so it’s no surprise that Indomitable became the focus of German and Italian bombers from the outset. The ship was hit with two armor-piercing bombs, one of which struck an unarmored section of the flight deck, starting fires below-decks. Nevertheless, Indomitable’s squadrons of Hawker Sea Hurricanes performed well against the bombers, with fighter ace Lt. Richard Cork shooting down five enemy aircraft.
In 1943, Indomitable found herself again in a large-scale operation in the Mediterranean, as the Allies prepared for the invasion of Sicily, providing important air cover for the amphibious assault. Shortly after midnight on July 16, a lone bomber approached Indomitable undetected, dropping a single torpedo which struck the ship under the belt on the port side amidships. The damage was heavy, but quick and effective damage control, as well as counter-flooding, allowed her to sail back to Malta for repairs under her own power.
After undergoing extensive repairs and refitting at Norfolk, she was assigned to the Pacific theatre in 1944, where she would serve out the rest of the war. She survived three kamikaze attacks on May 4, 1945. One of the aggressors hit the deck, but the armor withstood the blow and only a few aircraft and sailors were lost as a result; the second kamikaze attack resulted in the plane bouncing off Indomitable's deck and exploding in the water; and the third attacker was shot out of the sky by the ship’s anti-aircraft batteries.
Modeling the Ship
In terms of her aircraft squadrons, Indomitable flies the twin-engine De Havilland Sea Hornets, first operated by the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm in 1946.
Aircraft: De Havilland Sea Hornets in one squadron of four level bombers and one squadron of six attack aircraft.
These twin-engine, multi-role planes were developed as land-based fighter/bombers in the twilight years of the war, but were also adapted for carrier operations with a ‘Sea’ variant, complete with foldable wings to fit in the cramped carrier hangars.
Secondary battery: 16 113 mm/45 Mk II BD dual purpose guns in eight enclosed double turrets, situated on four separate sponsons located on either side of the ship, both fore and aft.
Anti-aircraft armament: 21 twin and 16 single 20 mm Oerlikon machine guns; four double 40 mm Bofors mounts; six quad 40 mm Vickers 2-pounder Mk VII “Pom-poms.”

Like all other carriers, VIII Indomitable has the standard Damage Control Party I and Fighter I on auto-activation. Her planes—both the rocket and bomb-equipped varieties—come with two charges of Engine Cooling I to speed up your squadrons’ movement, and four charges of Patrol Fighters I to deploy strategically on the map.
Indomitable in Combat
One of the first aircraft carriers with an armored flight deck in naval history. The ship's game version carries two types of aircraft on her deck: twelve attack aircraft and eight bombers, making it two full squadrons of each. Thanks to this, you can launch a full squadron even if the previous one of the same type hasn't returned from an attack yet, or went down during their assault. All aircraft aboard Indomitable have a high cruising speed for this Tier, allowing you to quickly reach any part of the battlefield and carry out vicious attacks against enemy ships.
Key features:
Attack aircraft: six aircraft in a squadron, with two planes on an attack run. Each aircraft carries eight rockets. Maximum rocket damage—2,100 HP; armor penetration—27 mm; chances of setting a target on fire—9%. Cruising speed—188 knots.
Bombers: four aircraft in a squadron, with two planes on an attack run. Each bomber can drop six HE bombs. Maximum bomb damage—4,700 HP; armor penetration—32 mm; chances of setting a target on fire—27%. Cruising speed—182 knots.
Extra credits per battle and 50% more XP provided by the permanent camouflage.
