Attention Miners!
Welcome to the second Deep Rock Galactic community update! First and foremost, we hope you have been enjoying going face to face with the Horrors of Hoxxes in Update 23. It’s been great to see all the positive feedback, and we’re looking forward to hearing what you think of the next big update. In regards to the release of Update 24, we are pushing the release back a little bit, to be able to finetune and polish the new content some more. We are confident that the update will land May 15 - remember to check back in due time for the experimental release.

Fan Art
We’re still blown away by all the amazing fan art that the community keeps pumping out, and below you’ll find a small selection from our different channels.

Drilling in the dark
This first moody Driller piece comes from DIwii on Discord.

Karlburster
Discord user Grimjak went above and beyond merging DRG with Alien, one of the big inspirations.

Leave no dwarf behind
This black and white piece from Discord user Lesolan turned out great.

Cotton Eye Karl
This video from Discord user Vooker525 is beyond description. Just watch it.
https://youtu.be/BspXBOEbq_0
Why would you even...
Reddit user JoeDuncan made an enemy suggestion that’s too good not to share. It’s aptly named “Brood Nexus Warden Bulk Bearded than you Grabber Detonator” because it’s all of those things.

Dwarvengers
Last, but not least, our mention of the endgame in our roadmap resulted in this great Avengers mashup from Reddit user GryphonKingBros.

Attention, Miners!

Due to glyphid swarmers in the machinery, the roadmap update has landed a little later than usual, but boy oh boy is it a good one. First of all, Update 24 will arrive early May instead of April, due to the Easter holiday in Denmark. Contentwise, for update 24 we’ll be getting a bit handsy. We are introducing no less than [REDACTED] new grenade types - not the big one we teased on Twitter, but we’re confident that everyone will be happy with their new throwable ordnance. Also, you want more swing in your pickaxe? There’s a mod for that!

With new things to throw at the enemy, we’re also giving you more to throw at. In Update 24 new creatures that go bump in the night will show up on Hoxxes IV and if you have been following us on social media, you might recognize a few.

We weren’t completely satisfied with the anticlimactic way missions were ending, so we are revamping the end screen to make it feel more… victorious if you make it out alive. Those left behind might not feel the same.

Some of you may have noticed that we are adding Steam Achievements (Yes, we did see the spreadsheet tracking it on Reddit). However, since we have a lot of Achievements coming up, they will not make it into Update 24. We’d rather do some more work on them and listen to suggestions and feedback, before letting them out into the wild. Please leave a comment on this post, on the subreddit or on the Discord if you have suggestions for cool achievements.

In regards to future updates, we’ve begun to look at the endgame of Deep Rock Galactic. Our vision is to keep you engaged and rewarded past the first promotion of your dwarves, whether it’s adventures, useful upgrades, equipment, or overall challenge. The endgame will tie into the Daily Adventures mentioned on the roadmap, but with the significant change that it won’t be daily and we will change the name of Daily Adventures to reflect this (once we come up with something fitting).

Hello Hard Tried Miners,
We got Hotfix 1 for update 23 ready for you! We have been monitoring the game over the weekend and we have noticed that the game got more difficult with Update 23 and that you have had to work harder to get your paycheck. Some of this is intentional like the buff to Elimination and Point Extraction missions, and some are not.

Overall we have now increased rarity of some of the new special enemies and they have been both bug-fixed and tweaked. Glyphid Grunt Slashers and Guards were appearing way too often compared to what we intended and they have been reduced in numbers as well. The Nayaka Trawler has also gotten some much-needed love.

We now expect your chances of survival to have increased, but please keep in mind that Hoxxes still is a very dangerous place to work, even for a dwarf!

Best Wishes,
-The Ghost Ship Crew-

Hello, Miners!

What a party! Thank you so much for all that participated, sent in fantastic contest entries, and got down to some right ol’ dirty cavedelvin’ with us during the celebrations. Now, though, we’re all out of Dark Morkite, there’s no more confetti in our hair, and we’ve gotten right back to work. That’s right, it’s Update Time, and we think we got a good one for you! First things first though:

THE PRICE INCREASE LOOMS
As we mentioned during the One Year celebrations, we’ll be raising the price of the game to $29.99/€27.99€/£24.99 on March 28th! And as we said, if you got friends looking for a sign on whether or not to join up, now’s a really good time to make that plunge. To delve into the darkness. To dig deep into their pockets and...eh, you get the idea.

THERE’S SOMETHING... NEW... IN THE DARK
With Update 23: Horrors of Hoxxes, we chose to focus on one of the most often requested improvements for the game (ourselves included): More aliens! Well, more aliens you shall have - alongside a ton of other stuff, we’ve got a bunch of new Hoxxes natives for you to pump full of lead, as well as some much-needed facelifts for some of our old friends.

Have a gander at the list at the end of this post for the full notes or dive in as un-spoilered as you please! Either way, we’re pretty proud of this one.

AND BEYOND!
Checkmark on 23: Check! Onwards to 24! We still have some design ahead of us before we can fully commit to the headlines on this one (some key members of the team are out of town, attending conferences), but 24 will likely be a less feature-oriented Update, and more focused on polish and improvement of current stuff while we put work into more long-term stuff in the background. So far it looks like Update 24 will bring things like yet more Mods to unlock, at least one new enemy type, and a bunch of UI improvements such as revamped Mission Load and Mission Complete screens, but we’ll have something concrete to share with you soon.

That’s pretty much it for now. All that’s left is to wish you all some lovely trips down into the dark to meet all your new...friends… :>

Until then,
ROCK AND STONE!

--- PATCH NOTES ---

A GAZILLION NEW ENEMIES
  • GLYPHID MENACE
    • This distant cousin of the Glyphid Acidspitter is both smarter, faster, and more aggressive. It’ll burrow into the ground between firing off devastating volleys of corrosive goo, making for a high-priority target when spotted.
  • GLYPHID WARDEN
    • This mysterious Glyphid sends out regenerative waves of spores to its nearby kin, reinvigorating and buffing them. Better take it out quick.
  • GLYPHID BULK DETONATOR
    • A sickening horror of the deep. It’s Bulky and it Detonates. You’ll know it when you see it - and then you’ll likely die. You have been warned.
  • NAYAKA TRAWLER
    • The first species encountered of this awful breed of Hoxxes wildlife. The Trawler has been observed in the Sandblasted Corridor Region and it burrows through sand at high speeds, aiming to catch prey in its’ extended maws as it passes. Don’t stand in front of it.
  • GLYPHID GRUNT SLASHER
    • A more durable and fast version of its weaker cousin, the Grunt. Plus...its long-bladed legs deal thrice the damage. Nasty buggers!
  • GLYPHID GRUNT GUARD
    • Another variation of the Glyphid Grunt. This one is heavily armored and has twice the health but is a bit slower than a normal Grunt.
  • RADIOACTIVE GLYPHID PRAETORIAN
    • In the Radioactive Zone, Praetorians have mutated and now do radiation damage! Better keep your distance.
  • RADIOACTIVE GLYPHID EXPLODER
    • Exploding with radiation! ‘Nough said!
  • RADIOACTIVE GLYPHID SWARMERS
    • They glow in the dark and are radioactive - they’re small enough that the radiation they emit isn’t enough to affect a healthy dwarf, however.
ENEMY TWEAKS
  • GLYPHID DREADNOUGHT OVERHAUL
    • New behavior: If the players are hidden in a small hole, the Dreadnought will now destroy the terrain until it gets to them. Can’t stop me now!
    • New attack: Swarmer Egg. Besides the fireball, the Dreadnaught will shoot a projectile full of swarmers. If hits the players, it will also cover them with pheromones, turning them into the target of new enemy swarmer spawns.
    • Regenerating armor. Make sure to attack it while it’s vulnerable. Health values have been modified to conform to this new system.
    • An all-new Boss Health Bar lets you know when you are facing a serious challenge. For the moment it’s only for the new and improved Dreadnought, but it’s almost like we have plans to use it for more things in the future, isn’t it? :>
    • Fixed the bug that would allow you to trap the Dreadnought using the Gunner’s shield
    • All its attacks and behaviors have been tweaked. The Dreadnaught is now more aggressive, more responsive, and more dangerous. Management wishes you luck.
    • More Nitra is spawning in elimination missions since you will need more ammo to take down a Dreadnought.
    • Fix so 2 Dreadnoughts can’t spawn in Point Extraction at the same time
    • Supply Pods won’t instakill a Dreadnought anymore - it still deals a good chunk of damage though.
    • Dreadnought's fireball damage reduced
    • Tweaks to Dreadnought's behavior for solo play
  • Q’RONAR SHELLBACK
    • Rolling periods are now shorter so it will open up more often to shoot (which almost means more chances for players to shoot it).
    • Armor resistance and base health reduced.
    • It can only be found in Salt Pits now. Radioactive Exclusive Zone didn’t feel like a healthy place to settle down.
  • CAVE LEECH
    • Received a much-needed model and animation overhaul. Now grabbier than ever!
  • NAEDOCYTE SHOCKERS
    • All new model and animations.
  • BET-C BATTLE MULE
    • BET-C’s grenades have proper models and improved shaders
    • BET-C now moves away if there are players too close to her for a few seconds
    • BET-C no longer turns into an unkillable murder machine if the parasites die too quickly
  • MISCELLANEOUS ENEMY TWEAKS
    • Enemies now only use melee attacks that are in range to actually do damage
    • Grabber only screams if its target is valid
    • Chance of getting a generic scripted wave increased compared to special scripted waves
    • Tweaked all the Glyphids blood particles. They are now much more visible
    • Glyphids have received several new attack animations
    • Glyphid Warriors have been renamed to Glyphid Grunt, because that’s what everyone kept calling them. Also, it fits. :>
MISSION TWEAKS
  • DIFFICULTY
    • Difficulty reduced a bit on 2-3 player games on Hazard Level 3-5
  • ELIMINATION MISSION
    • The location of the cocoons will no longer be displayed using an icon, now they appear on the terrain scanner
    • Cocoons are more evenly distributed throughout the map
    • New debris has been added in the vicinity of the Cocoons, in case you had trouble spotting the 15 ton, pulsating, gurgling, alien egg
  • SALVAGE MISSION
    • Defense Zones have been increased a bit in size
  • EGG COLLECTION
    • Reduced Egg Collection goals depending on Cave Complexity from 5, 8, 10 to 4, 6, 8
  • POINT EXTRACTION
    • Slightly increased spawn rates
    • Wave music added to the announced waves
CLEARER GEM FRAGMENT INDICATION
  • The glowing bits around embedded crystals like, Aquarq, Jadiz etc. now only glow when said item is close. No more returning to already mined spots!
MORE GEAR MODS
We are still in the process of adding mods to all the gear and we are slowly getting there. After this update, only the Pick Axe and the Grenades are left to do.
  • LMG GUN PLATFORM
    • Number of turrets, target prioritization, build speed, scan angle. You are a special snowflake and now your automated killing machine can be too.
  • SATCHEL CHARGE
    • Have you ever thrown down a Satchel Charge only to regret it immediately? Well, now you can install a kill switch for safe disarming and retrieval. Plus many other mods like carve size and fear effects.
  • FLARE GUN
    • More flares? Longer burn time? Auto-reload? Illuminate the situation with these and other mods.
  • SHIELD GENERATOR
    • Customize the size, duration and recharge time of your happy place.
Please note: You have been refunded credits and minerals invested in previous upgrades!

STATUS EFFECTS ON HEALTH BAR
Enemies’ health bars now display status effects such as being electrocuted, etc. They also show temperature variations so players can now know how far from bursting into flames or freezing they are.

VANITY
  • MK5 ARMOR SETS
    • Management has approved the introduction of an all-new set of armor for the most experienced employees to procure - the mighty Mark 5!
  • 1ST PERSON ARMOR
    • All first-person animations now display the correct armor!
  • SUPPORTER GEAR MORE GOLDIER
    • By popular request, the Supporter Upgrade Armor and Weapons have gotten a material overhaul - now more goldier than ever!
BOSCO QUALITY OF LIFE IMPROVEMENTS
  • It will now try to position himself below cave leeches, and not above them
  • It will be less glued to the floor when fighting except versus cave leeches
  • It will not fire if something other than enemies is blocking his line of sight
  • Doubled the frequency of Bosco checking if he should get out of the way
NEW MISCELLANEOUS MODELS, SHADERS, AND ANIMATIONS
  • New Mallet model for all your building and repair needs
  • New Beacons for Supply Pods
  • New third person animations make it easier to see if a teammate is currently checking the Terrain Scanner
  • Attempt to fix light bug on Stasis Grenade
MISCELLANEOUS
  • Fix crash related to people joining and being immediately grabbed
  • Added a third-person animation to players looking at the Terrain Scanner
  • Fix spelling error in Mini-gun upgrade
  • Fix DisableMasterEQ setting to work correctly
  • Work on reducing server list backend load
  • The Cryo Cannon’s feedback sounds have been made louder and easier to hear

  • Fixed Mixer Praetorians not working properly
  • Fixed Mixer spawning 4 times the amount of enemies it was intended

Greetings Miners!

It’s been a week since we had our 1 year anniversary, and we would like to extend our gratitude towards our entire community. We have received tremendous positive feedback from both old and new players, and while we were confident we were doing something right, any shadow of a doubt we may have had, has been eliminated.

With this first community update, we would like to share some of the love we have received from our community in the form of fan art, screenshots etc. We’d also like to share some of the teasers of upcoming content that we’ve shared across our channels over the last few weeks.

The first piece of fan art comes from @Caedo_Genesis on Twitter. We couldn’t help but laugh from the pun.

We jokingly said he needed to add Karl too. So he did.

From Sinnerman on Discord, we got this awesome pixel animation of a dwarven drop squad.

Some great poetry courtesy of hatzyle on Discord.

BuckWild on Discord has created something magical with this little masterpiece.

Reddit user Galazy1 made this very relatable comic.

Feel free to submit your own artwork to us on Discord, Reddit or other channels.

Content Teasers

Since we launched Update 22 we’ve been teasing some of the upcoming content. Keep in mind; we can’t guarantee that any of these small sneak peeks make it into the next updates, but we’re not letting that keep us from sharing them.

Co-op space dwarf sim shooter Deep Rock Galactic is free to try out for the weekend, celebrating an eventful full year in early access. Ghost Ship Games have poured a lot of love and effort into this odd blend of Minecraft and Left 4 Dead, adding a new introductory campaign, improving single-player and adding scads of new caverns, monsters and guns since its debut. It’s come along so well that they reckon they’ll be increasing the price near the end of the month, but players can still get in cheap if they like what they play free now. I recommend giving it a try, even if you play solo.

Deep Rock Galactic

Update: After a some confusion about when the free-play period ends (the announcement said Monday, the Steam page said Saturday), Ghost Ship has clarified that the free weekend ends at 1 pm PT on March 3—Sunday—while the sale price is good until March 4.

Original story:

Deep Rock Galactic is a space dwarf mining sim co-op shooter, and if you have no idea what that means, all I can say is, welcome to the club. (It's a bit like Left 4 Dead). Fortunately for the curious among you, this weekend is the perfect time to figure it out: It's the one-year anniversary of the game's Early Access release, and so developer Ghost Ship games is making it free to play for the weekend

The studio also warned that the Deep Rock Galactic price will be going up in late March, from $25 to $30/£25/€28, reflecting its expanded plans for the game. The price change will have no impact on current owners or anyone who picks it up prior to the hike.

"For the game itself, we are looking ahead once again," Ghost Ship co-founder Søren Lundgaard said. "We’ve got a lot of decisions to make and a lot of design to nail, but the headline of our deliberations is probably this: For several updates we’ve focused on stuff like upgrades for Bosco, weapon mods, backend improvements, overhauls of how we do Difficulty, and so forth—critical additions that make the game a better game—but we really wanna get back to making the caves themselves cooler now."

The part of the process will begin in March with an update that will add new enemy types and elite variants, and more gear mods. An updated development roadmap indicates that further into the year the developers are looking at things like daily adventures, new mutators, an exploration mode, new soundtrack music, and more.

Deep Rock Galactic is free to play until March 4. It's also on sale until then for $19/£14/€17.

Deep Rock Galactic - Soren - Captain of Ghost Ship
Hello, Miners!

It’s exciting times here at Ghost Ship Games! We’ve just hit yet another massive milestone - our One Year Anniversary since releasing into Early Access - and are in proper celebration mode here at the office. A simply fantastic year - and a simply fantastic community. We think we’re on to something pretty special with DRG, and the overwhelming response from you guys tells us we’re far from the only ones feeling that way.

Now, announcements!

PRICE INCREASE IN LATE MARCH
The price of the game will be increasing to $29.99/€27.99€/£24.99! As the community and awareness of the game have grown, so has our scope for it. In short, we want to keep expanding on DRG for longer than we initially planned - and with that in mind, we feel perfectly confident in raising the price a bit to help fuel development. Current owners obviously won’t be impacted by this at all, apart from getting more game than you originally paid for - and the price increase won’t hit until some time late in March, so there’s still plenty of time for potential new players to grab the game at the current price.

FREE WEEKEND
It’s Free Weekend time! We felt the anniversary was the perfect occasion for this, and with all the latest updates there’s never been a better moment to get into DRG. We expect a surge of new players to appear during this event, so to all our regulars: Keep being as awesome and welcoming as we’ve come to expect from you....and hey, invite your friends. :>

INTO THE FUTURE + UPDATED ROADMAP
For the game itself, we are looking ahead once again. We’ve got a lot of decisions to make and a lot of design to nail, but the headline of our deliberations is probably this: For several updates we’ve focused on stuff like upgrades for Bosco, weapon mods, backend improvements, overhauls of how we do Difficulty, and so forth - critical additions that make the game a better game - but we really wanna get back to making the caves themselves cooler now!

As the updated Roadmap will reflect, we kick this off with Update 23. We’ll be rolling out several all-new enemy types, as well as a buttload of new variations on familiar faces. We’re quite excited about this - getting ever closer to that critical mass of enemy variation where we can start pushing for more clever encounters, as well as more biome-specific stuff.

EXPANDED SOUNDTRACK
We’ve been lucky enough to squeeze some more tracks out of our lovely sound boys, so the game’s soundtrack will be getting a healthy injection of brand new tracks soon! These tracks will, of course, be added to the soundtrack available on Steam as well.

NEW KEY ART
And finally, the long overdue overhaul of our key art is here. It’s been a long time coming - the old piece has served valiantly since pretty much the inception of the project - but now it’s time for the new hotness. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. :D

That’s pretty much it for now - we just want to thank you all once more for your fantastic participation and love, and to wish you a very happy party. The First Anniversary of Deep Rock Galactic - here’s to much more of that!

Rock and Stone!

The Ghost Ship Crew
Deep Rock Galactic - GSG - Jacob

It’s party time, Miners!
Believe it or not, Deep Rock Galactic has now been live for ONE WHOLE YEAR. We launched on the 28th of February 2018, and that means it’s celebration-time with this mini-update! Developing the game and expanding it with new features and content has been (and continues to be) an absolute blast, and we are very humbled by all the great feedback and reviews we’ve been getting from you.
Thank you all for helping us turn Deep Rock Galactic into what we believe is an AWESOME game, and for being part of this wonderful community. Three cheers for you guys, for the future, and for ROCK AND STONE!

Party reminder: on Thursday 28th, we will celebrate the 1-year day with dev streams, AMAs, and other dwarven shenanigans. Read about it here!

Much love,
- The Ghost Ship Crew

FIXES FOR BET-C
-----------------------------------
  • A light ring displays the area of effect of BET-C’s grenades.
  • BET-C’s friendly fire damage (once converted, that is) has been reduced. Now BET-C feels a bit more like a trusty companion than before.
  • Improvements to BET-C’s friendly movement behavior, in an effort to make her stop sitting on top of the player.

SERVER LIST UI IMPROVEMENTS
-----------------------------------
The server list has gotten a beefy overhaul, for an overall better overview of the different active games. We’ve improved the filtering options, and added tooltips to better explain the different icons.

CAVE GENERATION UPDATE
-----------------------------------
More structures have been added to the cave generator which will result in a greater variety of levels in all mission types. Additionally, improvements to the underlying systems mean you should see more variations out of the existing cave shapes as well.

MISC
-----------------------------------
  • Fixed an issue the screen would flash white throughout gameplay, on GTX 970/980 graphics cards
  • New animation for checking the Terrain Scanner Didn't make it in...
  • Various spelling errors fixed
Deep Rock Galactic - Soren - Captain of Ghost Ship
Hi Miners,

Next week, on February 28th, it will be exactly 1 year since Deep Rock Galactic launched into Early Access (and Game Preview on Xbox). It’s been a fantastic year for us at Ghost Ship Games - and more than half a million of you have supported us by buying and playing the game! You have provided us with invaluable feedback, hilarious memes, and helped foster the best community imaginable. We remain both humbled and extremely proud of this.

As for the anniversary, we want to make a party of it. Update 21.5 will release on Monday, as outlined in our Roadmap. It’s got a bunch of celebration-related content in it, but also grew beyond our initial scope in several ways - so much so that we made an executive decision and upgraded the name of it from 21.5 to a full 22 instead! It deserves it!

While the update lands Monday (including the celebratory content), we’ll do a proper celebration outside the game as well next Thursday, the 28th of February. Most of this will be in the form of us, the devs at Ghost Ship Games, streaming from the office, and announcing various unannounced things! This will include proclaiming the winners of our Shout-Like-A-Dwarf competition, which you can still participate in here.

We are working with our friends and publishers at Coffee Stain to create buzz around the celebration, and we feel confident that it will not go unnoticed. That said - the more you, our dwarf-ambassadors, can help spread the word, the better the chance it’ll be a success.

This is roughly the plan:

Monday, February 25
  • Update 22: “One Year In Orbit” goes live at 11am (CET)

Thursday, February 28
  • Dev Stream playing Deep Rock Galactic during day (our time, so CET)
  • Reddit AMA (in r/deeprockgalactic)
  • Streams directly from the office of Ghost Ship
  • New Keyart and Biome wallpapers for download
  • Dev Streams during evening/night (our time, so CET)
  • Devs join random player-run games
  • Updated Roadmap
  • Shout Competition winners
  • plus lots more dwarven shenanigans

How can you help?
First of all, just do what you always do: help us with feedback when we release on Monday. Then we can hotfix so everything is perfect for Thursday.
On Thursday, simply join in by watching the streams participate in the social channels, and of course, play the game!
And finally, do what you can to spread the word, so we can celebrate this with as many fellow dwarves as possible!
