Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront - Herr Flick
Community members! Earlier this month, we released an important update focusing on balancing, improvements, fixes and optimization. We think players like the quality of life improvements. In the meantime, we have another announcement to make.
Content update 4
In our previous blog we announced the Scorched Earth DLC, but there is more in the pipeline! Content update 4 will be a FREE UPDATE and we plan to release it around the same time as the Scorched Earth DLC. This update will add new content to the original Ostfront release and will add another layer of value for all players.
Because this will be a free update, this will be available to all players!
Upcoming sound overhaul
We are also working on a major sound overhaul, which won’t arrive in time for Content update 4, but will still be released for free in the future.
Throughout the project, we have improved in all areas of the game, and the audio is no exception. Although Call to Arms - Gates of Hell has been critically acclaimed for its audio, we keep looking for ways to make it even better. The planned implementation introduces new technology; it was made in collaboration with Hang ‘Em High, who designed some of the most popular mods currently available. The sound overhaul will completely redefine the way our game sounds and feels. Our goal is to create the most immersive and realistic soundscape of any WWII RTS game, and make it a future-proof audio experience. We’ll keep you posted on progress via the #developer-telegraph channel on our official Discord server.
We are quite sure you will be pleased with this free update! We will announce the exact content of Content update 4 and Scorched Earth DLC as soon as we can. Have you wishlisted Scorched Earth yet?
Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront - Herr Flick
Community members, we have some news to share and an announcement to make! We have exciting plans for the near future, and this blog reveals what will happen in the next couple of days and weeks.
Update
Before we talk about adding content, let’s take a look at what comes first. In the coming days we will be pushing another game update; it contains some new units, a number of fixes and improvements, balancing changes, and optimization. You’ll always find us working on fixes in parallel with the development of new content, as the two are rather unrelated. As always we will list all the changes in a detailed changelog, which will be posted when the update drops. Stay tuned!
Scorched Earth
We are proud to announce the next DLC for Call to Arms - Gates of Hell. It’s called “Scorched Earth” and it will be available soon! During the development of Ostfront we were quite aware that it was impossible to tell the whole story of the Eastern Front in the initial release, due to the sheer amount of battles and the length of the conflict. However, our work in building the eastern front did not finish on release, we kept working to recreate more of the battlegrounds that defined the brutal eastern front. We released a lot of new units, maps and missions for free in three separate content updates, but some of the longer and more costly work has been kept in storage for this good occasion.
Scorched Earth consists of a mass of singleplayer and multiplayer content. There are new assets, vehicles, units, maps and missions, you name it. The singleplayer missions will expand the original German and USSR campaigns. The new multiplayer content will make its way through new doctrines available for Germany and the USSR. All in all, it adds a ton of new content to complete the bigger picture of the eastern front, the most vast and brutal theater of operations of WWII.
Click on the link below to view the description, and hit that wishlist button:
The integration of Scorched Earth will be like the Talvisota integration. That means DLC owners get access to its contents - units, missions and doctrines. Players who don’t own the DLC can always play alongside or against the new units in PvP/PvE. In the future, we will maintain these principles. As you may know, we’re developing the next faction in parallel - which is going to be a huge package as well - and we intend to integrate that along the same lines, when the time comes.
Scorched Earth testing has started. That means the finish line is already in sight, but there’s quite a bit to be done still. We’ll keep you posted on progress; we don’t have a date for release yet but we’ll tell you more in one of our next updates. As a matter of fact, we are currently recruiting new testers. If you want to see the DLC early, be sure to sign up as a tester on our Discord server! You can find the form in the #developer-telegraph channel.

So tell all your friends, get them to play with you at an insanely reduced price - everyone wins! For the first time, the Talvisota DLC is on discount as well. This sale will run for a week and so there is a bit of time in which to spread the news and expand the player base. We have exciting times ahead!
Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront - Herr Flick
Hi everyone, we’ve got some news to share about current development, and about what’s coming to Call to Arms - Gates of Hell in the near future. There’s something here for everyone! First of all, we are about to release another free update in the coming days. Besides that, work on the next faction continues at a good pace. At the same time we’ve been hunting bugs of course- in fact, we’re always busy on 3 fronts at any time. So let’s see what’s going on right now!
Conquest
Several improvements will be added to conquest; when the update is pushed, we will detail all the changes for you. We are continuously developing Conquest and exciting times are ahead. There are always plans to do more, and it’s actually safe to say that with these changes, we don’t think the development of conquest is finished at all. You can expect many more changes and additions to come to conquest in the future.
Multiplayer
Talking about multiplayer - we’ve made a number of changes & tweaks for balance reasons. These will be detailed in the changelog, as will the fixes.
Talvisota
We also have some additions specifically for Talvisota DLC owners. We’re very glad to announce that Finland will be added to the “late war” multiplayer period! Talvisota owners will be able to fight in some completely different settings with this addition.
We also add 2 more skirmishes to the Talvisota package; this duo of missions completes the Talvisota skirmish set. We’re quite sure you’ll have a great time playing these, they’re an absolute blast! All in all, the Talvisota now has 12 skirmishes available. If you’d like to try them - or the singleplayer and dynamic campaigns - check the Talvisota store page by clicking below: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1911520/Call_to_Arms__Gates_of_Hell_Talvisota/

Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront - Herr Flick
Community members! We’ve successfully worked our way through the heatwave, sweating it out while development has to continue regardless. As you will have noticed by now, we have updated the game, and there’s more to tell & show. Here we go.
Update
As we do with every update, we published a complete change log separately. In this update we’ll just skim the surface; the highlights are:
Several new mechanics introduced like AT grenade vehicle-throw intercepting, or conquest not ending instantly which allows for a lot of post-battle looting to happen.
Added 4 more skirmishes to the Talvisota DLC.
A lot of community feedback was processed to improve existing skirmishes & more
Some cool new additions to prepare for the arrival of late-war Finland
Many bugs were squashed
The bug fixes, however, are always part of our process, regardless of what else is under development.
You’ll also see that we’ve added more voice lines. These were all done by native Finnish speakers, because we truly believe that’s the way it ought to be done. One of the sets of soldier voice lines was done by Christoffer Weiss. We feel very lucky to have been able to cast him; after all, if there is one voice actor who is not only a true actor, but who is also steeped in Finnish ww2 history, it's him. He starred in the 2004 movie “Beyond the Front Line” (Framom främsta linjen) which is set right in the middle of the Talvisota DLC theme. No wonder his voice lines turned out brilliantly. Have you heard them yet?
Development
We’re progressing very well into the next milestones. Dozens of new 3D models and assets are already out of the pipeline and there’s a lot more to come. We’re also contemplating some surprises in the future, but we can’t tell you yet - for obvious reasons. We are working on more than just the next nation - several new projects are being developed. What we can show you is some more maps we’re working on, the use of which is under discussion internally, but we’ll let you know what we will use these for at some point in the future. Have a look - and remember this is work in progress:
(It still says version 1.021 in-game, it will be changed soon).

Commanders! Are you aware that we’re in the middle of a sale? Besides that, do you want to find out more about our current development? Keep reading!
Steam Summer Sale
We’re part of the summer sale, as you may have noticed. Since we have published Talvisota, online activity has increased dramatically as a result, and we’re not nearly done yet (the sale will run for a few more days). We see the community growing every day and this motivates us to keep going down the path we have been on with our game. And as we have stated in earlier updates, there is a lot more to come. So if ever you had a really good reason to prepare for the future, surely this is the time to seize the opportunity and get the RTS you know you want!
At the moment, we are contemplating possibilities to expand the existing factions even further, weighing our options while we keep working on the next faction. In the meantime, the images in this blog show you what happens on any given day in our office, when our level designers are doing what they do best: create something realistic that offers some serious replay value. Here’s a few images from a random new map, which is the result of “just another day at the office”, the integration and purpose of which will be announced later:
We have already been working on the next milestone for a while. Development runs in parallel with the usual process of support for the existing packages. We will announce our plans soon. If you want to be among the first to find out, be sure to stay tuned!
